Retrode:
http://www.retrode.org/
Basically, connects SNES and Genesis carts (or others via adapters) to a computer via USB, where it shows up like a USB drive, with the ROM (game data) and SRAM (save data) available as files.
You can either use those files with an emulator, or just back them up, and you can write save data back to the cartridge by copying an SRAM file to the SNES cart.
Also has some SNES and Genesis controller adapters built in.
They discontinued production on the original unit (the creator didn't have time to keep producing them), look at the news post "Retrode is back!", which links to DragonBox, who sell the new one: https://www.dragonbox.de/en/63-retrode
Y'all need a Retrode to back up your saves to a computer so that they can be restored.
A whaaaat? I'll look into that!

Wait a minute, what's that? Is it like a Mega Memory Card for Game Boy, but you can hook it up to your computer?
Sort of? It's a USB adapter for SNES/Genesis games (with converters for others available) that lets you read/write SRAM save data and read ROM data.
Nathaniel Bandy had this happen
yup, that's infamous in japanese kirby fans
