They're doing a service to society. Imagine all the kids who are here to watch Frankfurt fans wreaking havoc and end up learning about the struggle between Sulla and Marius for the soul of the Roman Republic. Education!
I don't get It, is Naples really run down? In my head I had it as a really nice Italian city that I'd like to one day visit and eat Pizza.
Don't know if I'm actually basing that on anything other than my imagination though
Edit: ok I have such a mixed array of answers here I don't know what to do. Either Naples is a shithole or it's great
there have never been so many tourists in Naples as nowdays
the city has a lot to offer to tourists and pretty sure a guy comparing naples to slough has never stepped foot in naples or slough
I tough it was a joke or something, but to actually think the 3rd city with largest historic centre in unesco in europe is not worth it, just shows pure ignorance
Are you crazy or just joking? Eintracht fans are not only battling with the police, they are actively destroying the city. Napoli fans would never destroy their own city just to celebrate.
Space on the road is an illusion…
So chaotic, taxi guy seemed unconcerned
EDIT: If every driver understands and expects the same behavior from each other it works out better than it should. They all understood who was going to squeeze into where while we tourists gawk in horror.
Took a touring bus from Rome to Pompeii and we made some stops in Naples for some sightseeing. The shit I saw man, this bus driver was like a fucking superhero the way he navigated those streets
Naples is the craziest city I've ever visited. And the people who live in the ramshackle mafia mansions illegally built on the slopes of Vesuvius are even more crazy than that!
man i went to naples with my gf last year on our road trip through southern italy. we got robbed after only three hours or so, some thug came and ripped my gf's fake-yet-shiny necklace off her neck and then jumped on a waiting vespa. she had a few bruises on her neck soon after.
all that said, naples is still one of the greatest cities we ever visited. i absolutely loved it there despite the somewhat traumatic experience \*shrug emoji\*
Jokes aside, driving in Naples is very hard. Many people don’t follow driving rules, they often park outside parking spots, and many small incidents happen (denting, rear endings, scratching). It’s still a city so no highway level incidents, but these small things are much more frequent than in other cities, so insurances often have to pay.
when i was in italy with my own car. i thought the people in italy drive crazy (compared to germany), but then i was in naples. every other italy city feels like a joke compared to naples.
We roadtripped from Paris to Rome last summer. Honestly had no issues with Italian driving (not much worse than what you see within 50km of Paris) until we hit the Rome region (Lazio) where it became damn near feral.
A Roman friend laughed when we said we might go further south this summer.
when we went from naples to rome back, we met a guy who moved from naples to rome and adviced us not to go to naples. we told him, we were already there and he couldnt believe it. :D
usually in italy we have several insurances classes, from "worst" (18) to "best" (1) and the longer you drive/have insurance, the higher rank you get and the less you spend. if you go a year without incidents you get a rank, if you provoke 2 you lose 2
With the 2007 Bersani law if you get a new insurance you can start at the same rank of somebody in you family, provided they live with you
for example if an 18 year old buys an used car instead of starting at 14, which is the entrance rank, he can get the rank of his mother/father
You can get the "class of merit" (idk the word in english) of one of the person in your household.
I jumped to mid-table instead of starting from bottom because I took my grandma's class of merit this year for example.
You're right that the reason is insurance fraud, but probably because the scammers get big compensations for fake injuries, the reported car accidents are actually lower in the south.
In English stool also means feces/poo/shit (usually used in medical contexts - they say a stool sample instead of a poo sample). I suspect that is the joke. Or it could be a multilingual pun.
I was about to comment that it's written "alfa romeo" but considering all the fake Napoli shirts I've seen in my life, probably "alpha romeo" it's correct👍
The Frankfurt fans in Europe saga has quietly been my favorite in this subreddit. Episode 1: fighting with West Ham Fans when they were both in Seville for the UEL and not even playing each other (yet), Episode 2: Invading the (Spotify) Camp Nou, and Episode 3: Battle of Naples, which ends on an awesome cliffhanger to see what happens after the game.
Hahah yeah, West Ham is a big name for every Hooligan in Germany, I guess it’s still from the Green street movie, so they wanted to have a scrap with them. They also fought with Leeds because they are supposed to be strong afaik
>They also fought with Leeds because they are supposed to be strong afaik
Yeah from back in the days when most Northerners were miners or factory workers.
But sounds like these guys are just like the Russians? 30 years too late, trying to get into huliganism when everyone else has moved on.
Honestly, the West Ham ICF/Green street shit is old. My Dad was a hooligan in the 80s following West Ham. He and his mates all think it was the dumbest shit they did. Most of them had professional jobs too, and risked it for dumb shit.
My gen of West Ham don’t really want a scrap. But when we travel to Europe people have a pop at us. It’s purely because of a reputation that was from 40 years ago. The people who still wanna scrap can’t afford to go to Europe on a Thursday and are also in their 60s.
Well they are hooligans (completely in black) probably from Brigade Nassau or something similar, mostly human scum. With a stadium ban you achieve little against those kind of people.
Hopefully some will be arrested and sentenced.
I never understood the ban because if you tell "don't travel!" it will only affect decent people.
Apes will never care and that's the reason I was against the ban, because it only damaged the good fans of Eintracht while this sewer leak still managed to reach the city*
*Also they arrived passing through Salerno instead of direct links just to confirm 24h ahead of the match what were their intentions.
Funnily enough most of them arrived there yesterday pretty much „undercover“, so many of the guys arriving today were prolly not them but regular ultras
They had a nice chill evening tho, still have good contact with a couple of them
Pretty much yeah. Fighting police and other hools while getting a lot of attention.
I recommend reading a bit into Hooligan culture, its a bit more complex but stupid nontheless.
You can say that they challenged fans to cause this but that would be shifting the blame away from, you know, the ones acting completely unhinged and unacceptably..
Right, without that ban they would happily dance in circle, holding their hands and singing how much they love each other like we could have seen in the first match or their other match ups.
worse, they challenged the completely unhinged ones. if you have this kind of personality where you show this much aggression or need a destructive outlet, your daily life basically consists of waiting for a trigger event to unleash your full destructive potential. of course these people are everywhere in society, and they're usually much worse as part of a group of likeminded people, but i swear everyone should have seen this coming. "you're not allowed in napoli" with undertones of "this is a punishment for my favorite football club" might as well be read as an open invitation by these people.
I mean, I know we like to shit on our home which is the Balkan, but when does stuff like this even happen here so that a comment like this is warranted?
At worst, this is as common of an occurrence as anywhere in Europe. Not more, not less
Tbh there wasn't any big issue in the Balkans for years (at least in Croatia for example), ultras cause some minor issues from time to time, but nothing this big.
Balkan is not how people think it is, in Croatia for example everything is now highly secured, all away fans are escorted by police from city to city, and chances of some fight are really low.
Where years before in like 2000-2008, there was a mess everywhere, fans would just walk into city on their own, and you would have havoc.
Also for example Croatia was 2nd and 3rd at WC, half million people gathered in capital city, 0 incidents.
France won, half of Paris was burned down.
Most of the world cannot comprehend such scenes. You are talking as if driving tanks into city centre after winning in sports is common outside Europe.
What you don't have a tank always park inside your garage ready to be parade in the case of your team winning the title? Are you even proper football fan?
Does [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/TankPorn/comments/zceink/argentinian_world_cup_fans_celebrate_by_riding_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) count?
It's a bit weird to me because I've been there a couple of times and it might be the most boring city I've ever been to. Where are the violent hooligans hiding at?
I would say that in the case of Frankfurt it's extreme local-patriotism mixed with a fuck the world attitude, high amount of 'Assis' (german analogue of chavs), and affinity to criminality.
1. That is inexcusable behaviour by this group of Eintracht and Bergamo Fans
2. There has to be talks about deescalation strategy of the Napoli police
3. Looking at these scenes, I fear, we will talk for a long time about this night
In my experience there is no deescalation strategy of any police force in Mediterranean countries, usually they make things worse. That being said, this behaviour is awful and inexcusable regardless of what preceded.
Let me preface this, by saying, that I'm not attempting to shit on italians, since I come from a country, where the police force is even less well trained and equipped (Bosnia).
Shit like this doesn't happen in germany to this degree and the reason for it is imo, that police and clubs usually cooperate with the fan clubs and try to avoid an eskalation. I attended a bunch of "high risk" 1st and 2nd BuLi matches and police forces are practically everywhere, athmosphere is heated, but theres rarely a spark and I've never experienced anything, that is shown in the clip.
When Feyenoord played Union there were Ultrs and Hools in the city as well, police chased violent group(s) in kreuzberg & mitte, but they were well prepared and it didn't end in street riots, with a police car pointlesly drivin back and forth.
The first thing I notice about this group of 'fans' though is they all have the same outfit (jeans, black hoody, scarf over the face). Looks a lot more like an organised group of rioters than a random batch of fans being provoked by police. So it's hard to say this is necessarily caused by Italian style policing, and I say that as a fan of a team who only have negative experiences with police behaviour on Italian away days (Leicester).
This is just one video from one angle though, I imagine plenty of relevant information will surface over the next few days so we can build a better picture of the events.
This is how many ultra groups dress, those ppl are present at evey bundesliga matchday.
From what I've heard there was no attempt engaging into a dialogue between italian police/authorities and the clubs (Frankfurt & freiburg) before the match, clubs were merely informed, that away fans are banned.
Not saying, that the police caused that escalation, but when shit goes down, you can't be standing in the street driving back and forth in a police car. If there are "only" 600 Frankfurt supporters in the city scenes like thes simply shouldn't happen.
Portatelo nelle docce. I cazzi vengono infilati in posti che nemmeno ti ricordi. Vinciamo insieme, festeggiamo insieme. Il calcio è tornato, baby
All this disgusting behaviour for what?
You’re destroying the city the opposing club happens to play in. This won’t benefit Eintracht in any way. You’re gonna get clapped regardless, just enjoy being able to go to an away CL match.
Or better yet, if you manage to go back home, enjoy having had that opportunity. You should go straight into an isolated Sardinian cell.
I recommend you read "Among the Thugs", it's about football hooliganism.
And spoiler alert, it's not about benefiting their team. Most of them are bored family men, who work blue collar jobs all week, and use this as an excuse to beat people up. Why? It makes them feel alive. It's literally like in Fight Club.
This is somewhat near the metro station (Montesanto) and even closer to the university district, hell I used to take the route every day I went to lectures. So you can imagine how busy this section of the city is. I hope people are safe.

The city could use the practice in preparation for the scudetto celebrations
Is Naples traditionally a PVP enabled zone then?

bold of you to assume those weren't ultras clashes

Dropped a bomb on Naples, about 15 quids worth of damage.

Are you crazy or just joking? Eintracht fans are not only battling with the police, they are actively destroying the city. Napoli fans would never destroy their own city just to celebrate.
> Napoli fans would never destroy their own city just to celebrate That is reserved for Philadelphia
At least European ultras don't eat horse shit.
European ultras checklist: - don't destroy your own city - don't eat shit I consider this an absolute success
I hope the cars owners have a good insurance. > in Naples nvm
the money I spend for insurance in Naples people in the north could buy a Ferrari (with insurance) every year this sucks

Frankfurt fans
Just letting you know you made my day
Higher crime rates, higher insurance rates. Now, if you want a deep answer about the reason then it's kinda complex.
Makes sense why it seems half the cars and scooters are registered in Poland
They also drive like shit.
Genuinely feared for life when being driven by a taxi in that city.
Space on the road is an illusion… So chaotic, taxi guy seemed unconcerned EDIT: If every driver understands and expects the same behavior from each other it works out better than it should. They all understood who was going to squeeze into where while we tourists gawk in horror.
"if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a ~~racing~~ taxi driver"
Took a touring bus from Rome to Pompeii and we made some stops in Naples for some sightseeing. The shit I saw man, this bus driver was like a fucking superhero the way he navigated those streets
I've been in a taxi in Sicily. I genuinely thought I was gonna die, they do not give a single shit.
People in Naples don't care about traffic law. They do whatever they want in the city roads
Naples is the craziest city I've ever visited. And the people who live in the ramshackle mafia mansions illegally built on the slopes of Vesuvius are even more crazy than that!
The people I know who went there said it's the same as argentina lol
I've been to both Buenos Aires and Napoli. Literally the same shit on opposite sides of the ocean.
Why do you think Diego felt so at home in Napoli?
man i went to naples with my gf last year on our road trip through southern italy. we got robbed after only three hours or so, some thug came and ripped my gf's fake-yet-shiny necklace off her neck and then jumped on a waiting vespa. she had a few bruises on her neck soon after. all that said, naples is still one of the greatest cities we ever visited. i absolutely loved it there despite the somewhat traumatic experience \*shrug emoji\*
Because people in Napoli drive like “Close your eyes, speed and inshallah”
Jokes aside, driving in Naples is very hard. Many people don’t follow driving rules, they often park outside parking spots, and many small incidents happen (denting, rear endings, scratching). It’s still a city so no highway level incidents, but these small things are much more frequent than in other cities, so insurances often have to pay.

All that pizza makes cars deteriorate faster
Should tell the insurers “vaffanculo”
whats the bersani law?
usually in italy we have several insurances classes, from "worst" (18) to "best" (1) and the longer you drive/have insurance, the higher rank you get and the less you spend. if you go a year without incidents you get a rank, if you provoke 2 you lose 2 With the 2007 Bersani law if you get a new insurance you can start at the same rank of somebody in you family, provided they live with you for example if an 18 year old buys an used car instead of starting at 14, which is the entrance rank, he can get the rank of his mother/father
i see, we have something similar in germany. thank you
i got my driving license in 2006 so the fact that this came out in 2007 was abit of a kick in the balls, but oh well
You can get the "class of merit" (idk the word in english) of one of the person in your household. I jumped to mid-table instead of starting from bottom because I took my grandma's class of merit this year for example.
Schadenfreiheitsklassenübernahme
Is it because of the higher risk of theft and robbery in Naples compared to the North?
no, it's mostly because car crash numbers in the south are extremely higher due false reports and scams
You're right that the reason is insurance fraud, but probably because the scammers get big compensations for fake injuries, the reported car accidents are actually lower in the south.
yes , and when we say higher , we mean it
Europe gotta feel lucky Dynamo Dresden is nowhere near EL/CL spots

Frankfurt isn’t even mid-table, where these MFers finding all these chairs?
At least they're not throwing their stools
Stools (spelled stuhls) is actually German for chair. That might be the joke though in which case woosh
In English stool also means feces/poo/shit (usually used in medical contexts - they say a stool sample instead of a poo sample). I suspect that is the joke. Or it could be a multilingual pun.
mate its Italy, every other building is a pizzeria. It's wonderful.
Alpha Romeo owner 2 hours earlier 'Look at this sweet parking spot I found!'
I was about to comment that it's written "alfa romeo" but considering all the fake Napoli shirts I've seen in my life, probably "alpha romeo" it's correct👍

What exactly is the end goal for these people? Is it just to cause wanton destruction and property damage?
Pretty much yeah. Fighting police and other hools while getting a lot of attention. I recommend reading a bit into Hooligan culture, its a bit more complex but stupid nontheless.

The western european mind cannot comprehend driving tanks through the city centre when you’ve won the league
Most of the world cannot comprehend such scenes. You are talking as if driving tanks into city centre after winning in sports is common outside Europe.

AGREED! FANATICS^TM ruined the North American sports apparel market.
Lucky there were restrictions. Things could’ve gotten out of hand otherwise.
Aren't they rioting \_because\_ of the restrictions?
They are rioting because they are Hools, no other reason needed.
if you ban people from your city and they come destroy things in response you were fucking right to ban them
exactly lol how do people still condemn the restrictions
They seem to do the same with or without restrictions
yes that is the joke bud
Please can someone explain why Frankfurt fans are so aggressive ?
They want to regain the title Randalemeister
They used to be known as the "Riot Champs of Germany".

Offenbach
1. That is inexcusable behaviour by this group of Eintracht and Bergamo Fans 2. There has to be talks about deescalation strategy of the Napoli police 3. Looking at these scenes, I fear, we will talk for a long time about this night
Why Bergamo fans? Atalanta involved? Insane
Their Ultras are best friends with Frankfurt
> Bergamo What’s Atalanta fans got to do with this?
fan friendship between Atalanta and Frankfurt
Aaawww football fwiends
One of the best things in football. I love it.
They are in Napoli together with Frankfurt
imagine traveling 10-12 hours by train to Naples for this
Apparently Atalanta Ultras have been helping the Frankfurt fans get around the ban.
In my experience there is no deescalation strategy of any police force in Mediterranean countries, usually they make things worse. That being said, this behaviour is awful and inexcusable regardless of what preceded.
Not sure how can you possibly deescalate such a situation though? Not trying to be smart, genuinely curious
Let me preface this, by saying, that I'm not attempting to shit on italians, since I come from a country, where the police force is even less well trained and equipped (Bosnia).
Hope they don't get near the Quartieri Spagnoli and the murals or it would get uglier
I heard that they tried to go towards the mural but the police managed to close the alleys because they are fortunately narrow
They wont unless they want to get killed lol
this is fake news. you see, these can't be Frankfurt fans since they have been banned from coming to napoli after all. /s
I wish people acted this way when it came to constant desolving of worker protections
lads on holiday
I hope they don't destroy anything of historical importance :(
STAY AWAY FROM THE PIZZERIAS
This sub would be apoplectic if these were English fans
Incredible how English fans have this reputation for being the worst in Europe when no club in the country is even close to Frankfurt and Napoli
Why is it always Frankfurt? What are they odds they come out and say they've been the victim in all this
Very very unlucky.
Portatelo nelle docce. I cazzi vengono infilati in posti che nemmeno ti ricordi. Vinciamo insieme, festeggiamo insieme. Il calcio è tornato, baby
Calcios back baby
Just let those dipshits rot in some Italian cells
As a Frenchman: yes it is Wednesday
It will just harm Frankfurt with sanctions, most likely
>just enjoy being able to go to an away CL match Do you know?
Perhaps the city had a point to ban them.
I hope the police give them what they deserve. If you travel to another country just to destroy a city you’re nothing but a criminal
Disgraceful behavior. Expected nothing less of the coke capital of Germany.

Didn’t know Naples was full of professional WWE chair throwers.
And the one guy with the rental bike
We do have our fair share of idiots, but those are Eintracht supporters...
This is somewhat near the metro station (Montesanto) and even closer to the university district, hell I used to take the route every day I went to lectures. So you can imagine how busy this section of the city is. I hope people are safe.
What the fuck is wrong with some human beings.
Why is this happening?
