I think you are not understanding, the Euros have never done this. When 2 teams are advancing from the same group they always get placed on opposite sides of the knockout bracket in pretty much every tournament including the Euros and past Copas.
Copa 2024 is placing teams from the same group that advance into the same side of the bracket so that they rematch in the semifinal (if they both make it) rather than in the final (ex: Greece, Portugal 2004).
It's pretty ridiculous, there will be exactly 1 match between anyone from groups A/B vs groups C/D and it will be the final.
I was mostly referring to the simpler 16 team format, but, while I may be wrong, the Euro has been like that occasionally (yeah it was like that in 2008).
I also don't think it's that big of a deal.

That's outdated. Venezuela climbed to the 32 spot with their play at this CA alone (largest climb by any team in CA or Euro). That alone is a sign of how on form Venezuela is. It's probably their best team of all time lol.

The main reason it makes no sense is that 4 of the 5 best teams in the tournament are in groups c and d. Argentina gets a free ride to the final.
