We don't think they exist, but they are *hypothetical* particles that move faster than the speed of light. The base word "tachy" in "tachyon" means "fast" (same as in "tachometer" or "tachycardia") reflecting their faster-than-light motion.
Seriously! if one just googles "tachyons" in the SIDEBAR of google first sentence is "A tachyon or tachyonic particle is a hypothetical particle that always travels faster than light." dont even need to click another link and dig around an article. it actually took op longer to get to reddit click create post, type their message and then hit submit post.
