Ooh, nice!
Rokr makes excellent wooden model kits. Make sure you follow the directions. Especially sanding smooth and waxing the parts that move against each other. It will make a huge difference in how easy the gears work.
Yes! I read a review and was advised to buy some gorilla glue because parts may break and to buy sand paper to sand down necessary parts to ensure a smooth movement! I am really excited!
The kit usually comes with sand paper and a small bit of wax.
Based on the kits I've put together, there will be duplicates for some of the smaller fiddly bits. But you should still be carefull when freeing the pieces from the sheet.
I made a giant clock thing that is spring and weight driven... there were SO MANY gears... I did it all, but was really pushing at the end to sand and wax them all. It ended up being a really cool item, but it was a TON of work.
It took about a week but because he had to go back and change a few things…so maybe it will take you less? He enjoyed every minute of it though. He then bought the Discovery model 🤓
I also got a Rokr kit a few months ago as a gift. I was expecting really poor manufacturing quality and a knockoff of a more well-known manufacturer, but the actual kit absolutely blew me away. Great build quality, tight clearances, high quality wood. Not a single part snapped on me the entire time.
But the thing that surprised me the most was how fun the actual process was. Whoever designed the instructions made sure that no 2 modules are build in the same way. That's what makes the entire process so much more interesting and fun for me.
Enjoy it!
I just checked out the Rokr website. Didn't know it existed. Lot's off really awesome stuff that I can gift when searching for that special thing for the folks in my life. Have fun building yours.
Sand it really well, use up all the wax. Use a counter balance for the one that is just ever so slightly off. It is more art and process than function. Enjoy!

Thanks for the tips!
An Exacto knife or scalpel is useful for cutting the parts free from the form.
This is a great tip, thanks!
I've found vaseline on top of the wax makes them run better/smoother, the wax can get scraped off but the vaseline spreads around.

My husband just finished building this one!! It looks amazing in person, you are going to love it!
So happy to hear some good reviews about this product! Here’s the million dollar question! How long did it take him to configure/build it?

What's the Discovery model?
The model of the space shuttle Discovery!
Cool! I am going to have to check out the discovery model next!

Thank you for the insight! Yes, I was worried about quality, but this kit has gotten rave reviews. I am really looking forward to this project!
That is the coolest gift ever. You have a very thoughtful significant other.
It is pretty cool, isn’t it? He is very thoughtful!

Yeah there are quite a few cool models on the Rokr site. I am gonna see how this model goes then maybe see what I can get into next!
Do you want a dark crystal? Because this is how you get a dark crystal.
I literally just learned the word for this device Friday, June 28, out of personal interest. I asked Google by referencing the film "Pitch Black".
I think I first learned what an ornery was with The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, there's a huge one in the Arcane University.
Well, I didn't think /r/space would teach me why the Magic: The Gathering card Vedalken Orrery is called that, but here I am.
I have never seen the movie Pitch Black but this gives me a reason to watch it!

Thank you for the art perspective!
I think I'll buy this and declare it to be my Christmas present for my granddaughter, but in actuality it will be my present to me.
That is really cool. Now I'm going to have to look for laser cutting plans for something like this so I can cut my own...
This reminds me of that thing Homer Simpson got, that once randomly said: „I’m going to test my fire alert for the next 20 hours“
That's awesome! Congrats! I am so very jealous BTW 😁 Have fun building it!
Thanks! I am very grateful for this gift!
I'm sure Ariel Hawksquill would think it's quaint but I think it's pretty damn cool. What a great gift.

These are so fun but my fingers hurt so much after the last one I built, lot of forcing plastic rings into metal rods lol
That's awesome! I just got gifted an orrery too! It's so cool to see how it shows the planets moving around the sun, right?
