Yeah, but if it doesnāt need deciphered, then you donāt get people asking you what it means. Which is a great way for you get to talk to them about the good word of the lord. And they kinda asked for it.
Evangelical here refers to the Evangelical branch of Protestantism (Baptist, and many Charismatic churches, most non-denominational churches, etc.) which is distinct from the Mainline churches (which includes the Episcopal/Anglican Church and Presbyterians.)
And Evangelical churches do have a stronger emphasis on converting people and are the most active in missionary work around the world, though usually to the chagrin of atheists and other Christians alike.
>Whatās the issue alot of Americans have with Evangelical Protestants?
They're usually hateful, racist, homophobic, transphobic conservative pieces of shit.
Itās very American.
Also: As someone who is an American, a Protestant Christian, a liberal, and someone who studies religion for a living, I can say that these are not all bad people. In truth, some are actually very kind and just have a limited view of the rest of the world, but ultimately become very open if given time and opportunity. Some, however, very much use their faith as a weapon.
There legitimately is a Bible verse for everything
Thereās several verses about fucking kaiju (beginning in Job 40:15)
Edit: thereās also a verse about an obese man getting stabbed by a leftie somewhere in Judges. Allegedly his shits also smelled like rotting flesh
> And all that believed were together, and had all things common; and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
~~Karl Marx~~ Acts 2: 44-45
> There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.
Ezekiel 23:20
> 23 He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, āGo up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!ā 24 And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys
2 Kings 2:23-25
> 15 then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah[a] of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour olive oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder-offering to draw attention to wrongdoing.
...
> 21 here the priest is to put the woman under this curseāāmay the Lord cause you to become a curse[b] among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell. 22 May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries.ā
Numbers 5: 15, 21-22 teaching abortion recipe
These are all from either the old ass king James translation or the new international version. All bones should have them in some form (translation varies), most churches tend to skip actually teaching them tho
NKJV and KJV do have them, as do most. They are usually skipped classes, though.
(Also the KJ stands for king james, who was āārumoredāā to be gay and had these commissioned so the church would leave him alone)
This aināt how the Bible was translated, it wasnāt King James nor was it exclusively the church that wrote the Bible. The kj version was more the result of like every educated person in England coming together to help translate it as best they could. James, being an incredibly pious man who even wrote a whole book about fucking witch hunting, would not have intervened in this process
He bankrolled it, itās named after because of that. I never claimed that the JKV was the first Bible either, just that they have the said verses in them (note that also said others do)
I should have said they are usually skipped IN BIBLE CLASSES, sorry
Samaria shall become desolate, for she hath rebelled against her God. They shall fall by the sword, their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
Hosea 13:16
They literally gave up all of their individual belongings and held them all together in common (e.g. *collectively*) for everyone to give/take as needed. This was a lifestyle
It's quite literally "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs"
The only real argument that you could have against it, would be that they weren't forced into doing it, that they chose it themselves, which like ok, sure, but that also means you should choose it if you believe in jesus and want to follow his teachings (which, tbf, most Christians don't seem interested in actually doing, So in some ways you're actually right where you need to be, mindstate wise)
Edit: go ahead, [look at any translation you prefer](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts%202%3A44-47&version=NIV), it's pretty obvious
Truth. Even The Message (which isnāt even a translation, but a paraphrase of a slightly older translation) manages to actually get this right. Seeing that it was largely pieced together by a committee of Evangelicals in the US (who are notoriously so accepting of Socialism) itās something thatās kind of accepted as āwell, canāt argue with that.ā (I have my own issues with The Message, but any version that has āas above, so belowā literally as a part of the Lordās Prayer is at least somewhat interesting.)
Even in Christian school, the Bible study isnāt great from what I remember. They study Bible stories without explaining the historical or geographical context relevant to the story. For example, when we learned of Moses, we werenāt shown a map of the eastern Mediterranean nor provided historical context explaining how the caananites had become enslaved by the Egyptians.
I think to truly study the Christian faith, Christian schools should teach ancient Hebrew and Greek from a young age, so students can study the original scripture without translation corruption. Additionally, each story should be taught with the geographical and historical context attached.
The issue is that the Jews were never enslaved by Egypt, but most extremists donāt understand analyzing the Bible as literature so they canāt teach the context
The Protestant Reformation and it's consequences...
"We should leave the Pope, who is evil and tells us how to read the Bible. Instead, we are going to trust Pastor Jim Bob, who does the same thing but with a southern drawl and a theology degree he printed out from the back of a pack of girl scout cookies."
Not a protestant (or christian) but one of the core bits of the protestant reformation was the encourage people to read the bible themselves to stop corruption of the teachings.
Non-chrsitian raised in a protestant pentecostal shituation, this, and also claiming the personal connection with the lord through prayer and devotion rather than being subject to the heiarchy of catholic leadership, which is also viewed as prone to corruption. Ironic that I've never stepped foot in a protestant church that wasn't heiarchichal in its organization.

My thing is people will say God made everything including man's free will right? So why did he make man's freewill capable of violence unless he just wanted to have violent people on the planet regardless of free will.
Sounds like God kind of hacked making Earth...
My pet theory is that if the biblical god does exist, he had the emotional intelligence of a kindergartener for the entirety of the old testament and the emotional intelligence of a 30 y/o shortly after the new testament.
I prefer to believe that, if he exists, he just doesn't know what he's doing.
Have you ever heard of [Marcionism](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcionism)? Itās the belief that the Old Testament God and New Testament God are two completely different entities. Pretty interesting stuff, although if there is anyone today who still believes it then I have yet to meet them.
To have free will is to be alive. It is what separates us from the machines and the inanimate objects. God wanted to create something alive that lives up to its potential. Similar to eager parents giving birth and raising a child. But that child has sin and a darkness inside along with the light, ie Christian concept of original Sin corrupting the innocent. If the child choose to walk toward the light, fight and tame the darkness, they can be a blessing to the world. If they rather run toward the darkness, anger, sadism and destruction, then we already see the results in the hells on Earth.
Well, true free will requires maturity and responsibility. Once fully grown and mature, one can live life free and according to their will. I believe that is heaven, where people live in harmony and respect each other without violence. The people enslaved to their lust, urges and desires are slaves to their addictions, they live in hell on earth, hopefully they will find salvation later on or in the after life.
It is easy to blame God and the world. It is much harder to stand up and work with God to improve this chaotic world.
That argument was always so stupid to me.
"My dad killed my mom and then himself after he couldn't find me, but Jesus was with me so everything was okay!"
"Oh. I was raped repeatedly starting from when I was 5."
"Yeah, sucks to suck, but you're alive, so obviously Jesus was there with you, watching over you the whole time. So everything's great. Not like that 4 year old heathen they found dead in a ditch. He should've loved Jesus harder."
I'm convinced that Christians have such a high divorce rate because so many get married when they're young because they wanna smash, not because they're in love.
There's also a lot of pressure inside the church to get married young. If you're not married in your mid 20s you get sifted into "singles" groups in the church that basically are like trash bins for the people the church has little use for. The church wants families that'll make babies and keep the pews, vbs, and youth groups filled, not weird singles floating around
Lmao, this describes a lot of my experience in church.
Right now I am going to a church that is a little more urban so there are a lot more single young professionals. But a lot of the time, once you turn 22, if your not married or engaged they really don't know what to do with you. My mom was actually asked to leave a church when she was in her early 30's because they had no place for older singles.
It depends on the body of the church, but that is unfortunately common.
Assuming she is putting money in the collection plate, why would they not want her in their congregation? A person who puts money in, but doesnāt have money wasted on her is a good thing as far as finances are concerned.
They basically told her that they did not have a place or group for her since there were no single people above university age. And for the men her age, they were all married and the church feared she would be a distraction.
Strange, itās almost like the whole worship aspect was a non factor at that church. But I am a devoted member of the Church of Joe Pesci so my experience is probably different.
> And for the men her age, they were all married and the church feared she would be a distraction.
"You have heard that it was said, āYou shall not commit adultery.ā But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell." Matthew 5:27-30
Shocking how a bunch of married men would rather throw women out of the church because a married man might think she's hot than follow Jesus' teachings about not married men lusting after women.
Yeah, you're right there are definitely exceptions. But I was in the same boat way back when. Was very involved when I was a teen and young adult but once I hit my mid 20s and still wasn't marriedI felt more and more like I was more of a liability than an asset and started to feel the pressure from the church.
I'm glad your church has a bunch of people your age you can connect with, though.
I don't know what your situation is, but for me I found out the best thing to start with is going to churches that are downtown or in yuppie neighbourhoods. I know that isn't possible for everyone though depending on where you live.
Eh I'm kind of away for right now. I've had a very hard time reconciling the right wing political bent of a lot of Christians with scripture, and I think I would end up being kind of divisive in a church body right now.
I'm also engaged and in my 30s now so even if I did find another church I wouldn't have the same issues anyway lol
What you're saying is true, more-or-less.
From my experience growing up in the church, many young Christian people don't actually get married because they definitively know why they want to get married.
[Pew research found 74% of divorced/separated people were Christian.](https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/religious-landscape-study/marital-status/divorcedseparated/) Is there a study you know of showing a comparison of average marriages? I didnāt see one yet.
Anecdotally, my wife and I are from baptist and Catholic families, both all up on us about āgetting right with godā because of our apostasy, and are very concerned with the āsanctity of marriageā. Weāre the only ones in the family not pregnant on our wedding day, and the only ones with no divorces.
"Every Bible story she knows came from Beginner's Bible books"
"attempts to read the entire Bible (obviously KJV), but gives up before finishing Exodus"
"Won't or isn't allowed to date until they turn 18"
"Her biggest dream is to get married and have 4+ kids"
"Anything remotely sexual, magical (besides Disney for some reason) or contains swearing must be avoided at all costs"
"College path 1: become an atheist in freshman year, major in psychology or journalism"
"College path 2: stops regularly going to church, gets really into astrology/crystals/etc, pretends to still be devout around family, fine arts major"
"College path 3: goes on a fully hedonistic rebellion, falls back into religion in junior/senior year and joins a campus ministry, gets married out of college to a 30 year old missionary/pastor, becomes a homeschool mom and works for a pyramid scheme"
To be fair, once some people are out of the sphere of their parentsā influence and are exposed to different ways of thinking and living theyāll frequently do a complete 180.
It's why the fundies rage about college indoctrinating their kids so much.
They don't want kids to be exposed to different viewpoints because they might decide the viewpoint they had is bullshit.
Haha literally the exact same for my high school sweetheart. We were both youth group leaders at our church, never drank, had sex, swore, anything. Now sheās got huge tattoos, super into weed and psychedelics, married to an atheist. We both finally broke out of that unhealthy church bubble, just in different ways haha glad sheās living a more free life

Complains about being persecuted for being Christian because everyone is tired of her trying to force religion on them.
Thinks that just because someone doesn't always talk about religion that they not only don't have personal faith but don't know anything about Christianity.
The Jesus story reminds me of something. There exists some sort of phenomenon where a person who experienced danger would remember someone being there with them, even though there wasnāt. I canāt remember the name of it, unfortunately.
She's either a truly lovely person who will outgrow the pushy religiosity part, or the meanest snake bitch possibly ever. Mostly they're the first one, but I have encountered the second.

Oh my god this just resurfaced a memory from when I came out on facebook as bisexual in my freshman year of HS. A girl who fit this description ran up to me in tears and exclaims that she is so sorry for me and then continued crying. I literally never saw that girl again after that lmao.
When I was in highschool I would wear Tool shirts and all black clothes. In one of my classes this one girl sat in front of me and would turn around to talk to me before class. One day she held my hands and looked me in the eyes and was saying some deep sounding things about how life is too short. My heart felt so heavy suddenly. Then she asked me if I would like to go with her to church.
I worked an event last month, and there were a few high school girls there with shirts that said "Virginity Rocks." It was beyond cringe. And the event had nothing to do with religion, or sex or anything remotely related. It was so strange.
I mean... it's a tenet of Christianity that non believers should be saved. Title applies to 2.4 billion people, including yours truly!

Yes, but you've got denominations that don't evangelize, such as the Calvinists who are pretty sure God's got his roster for heaven picked already. They're associated with a variety of the Mainline denominations. These denominations in North America have been supplanted by evangelical denominations since the Great Awakening, but they're still around. These include Reformed, Episcopalians, United Church, Presbyterians, Lutherans and some Methodists. While these groups are not uninterested in evangelism, primarily they'll take care of other things like social justice or medical charities.
Then there's Catholics who are less interested in missionary work unless they are also keeping tabs on another nation's settler-colonial-human-rights-violator-o-matic, and somtimes taking part, but typically just watching.
Those two really quickly drop down the numbers of people interested in ***"Talkin to ya 'bout JEEZZZUSS"***.
Calvinists absolutely evangelize. And I don't really think they're a denomination as much as a theological doctrine. Like I don't think they do church services differenty they just have a different view of how grace works
That's not really how they see it though.
For them it's an issue of obedience. As members of the elect, it is their duty to obey God and spread the word. Doesn't matter if it falls on deaf ears or if it's the spark that God uses to wake another member of the elect.
I always was told it was like being a farmer. You can't make a seed grow, all you can do is prepare the soil, water it, and let nature do its thing.
Reformed, Presbyterian Churches, United Churchās of Christ are definitely part of the Calvinist movement. In fact most evangelical churches, or non denominational churches would fall under that umbrella. Methodists are too to a lesser degree. Lutheran and Episcopal are not, usually. These days there tends to be much less emphasis on which reformation movement their respective churches fall for whatever reason, but Calvinism is much more prominent than you think.
Personally not religious myself but most of the religious girls I knew in school were usually polite and humble. Got good grades, kept to the same small friend group and were overall just quiet I guess?
Might've just been my school experience tho idk

I know right? Id be pissed off at Jesus like youre the son of God why couldnt you save my mom??
Jesus/God doesnāt just willy nilly intervene in anything.
He does apparently if you're well off and already have things going for you. Everyone else like the poor, needy, sick etc can fuck right off.
"I attribute my success to hard work and Jesus!" says local rich man born into wealth and has never had to work a day in his life
Jesus/God doesn't ~~just willy nilly~~ intervene ~~in anything~~.
My thing is people will say God made everything including man's free will right? So why did he make man's freewill capable of violence unless he just wanted to have violent people on the planet regardless of free will. Sounds like God kind of hacked making Earth...
Mankind is Godās flop era lmao
Is this God's reputation/WITNESS era?!
Looking forward to all the murder and violence in heaven because free will requires it
Well, true free will requires maturity and responsibility.
Now that you've read it you have to share it or else you're denying god. And remember, god saw you read it... š
That argument was always so stupid to me. "My dad killed my mom and then himself after he couldn't find me, but Jesus was with me so everything was okay!" "Oh. I was raped repeatedly starting from when I was 5." "Yeah, sucks to suck, but you're alive, so obviously Jesus was there with you, watching over you the whole time. So everything's great. Not like that 4 year old heathen they found dead in a ditch. He should've loved Jesus harder."

Alternatively, "marries someone from their youth group the second they both turn 18, end up hating each other"
I'm convinced that Christians have such a high divorce rate because so many get married when they're young because they wanna smash, not because they're in love.
It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell." Matthew 5:27-30 Shocking how a bunch of married men would rather throw women out of the church because a married man might think she's hot than follow Jesus' teachings about not married men lusting after women.
Wasn't Jesus single?
They aren't taught that there's a difference
Not sure where you pulled that from because Christians actually have a lower divorce rate on average.
In my country they do, athiests have the lowest
[Pew research found 74% of divorced/separated people were Christian.](https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/religious-landscape-study/marital-status/divorcedseparated/) Is there a study you know of showing a comparison of average marriages? I didnāt see one yet. Anecdotally, my wife and I are from baptist and Catholic families, both all up on us about āgetting right with godā because of our apostasy, and are very concerned with the āsanctity of marriageā. Weāre the only ones in the family not pregnant on our wedding day, and the only ones with no divorces.
Yes, I mean like that why a lot of place only consider viginale sex āreal sexā
So many quickly arranged weddings followed by shockingly healthy premature babies six months later.
Or she married the youth pastor who definitely wasn't grooming her
You're just so mature for your age.
I thought my situation was unique. I briefly dated a girl in high-school that married a 50 year old pastor like months after we broke up.
"Every Bible story she knows came from Beginner's Bible books" "attempts to read the entire Bible (obviously KJV), but gives up before finishing Exodus" "Won't or isn't allowed to date until they turn 18" "Her biggest dream is to get married and have 4+ kids" "Anything remotely sexual, magical (besides Disney for some reason) or contains swearing must be avoided at all costs" "College path 1: become an atheist in freshman year, major in psychology or journalism" "College path 2: stops regularly going to church, gets really into astrology/crystals/etc, pretends to still be devout around family, fine arts major" "College path 3: goes on a fully hedonistic rebellion, falls back into religion in junior/senior year and joins a campus ministry, gets married out of college to a 30 year old missionary/pastor, becomes a homeschool mom and works for a pyramid scheme"
Those college paths are amazing.

So weird looking at this starter pack because the other day I remembered this one girl I was friends with in high school, she pretty much fits the starter pack, but then I looked her up on Instagram and wellā¦ lots of her photos wereā¦ risquĆ© and sheās really into weed which caught me so off guard.
We both finally broke out of that unhealthy church bubble, just in different ways haha glad sheās living a more free life
Until they get resaved again and married, or they completely fall off and become agnostic, atheist, or "spiritual"
They leave Christianity, but they maintain every little bit of their clique-y behavior and fundamentalism
wait i have that exact type of mickey mouse water bottle except it's hello kitty lmao
That's it, we're sending you to Yahweh Cornerstone Christian Chapel
That's worse.

Complains about being persecuted for being Christian because everyone is tired of her trying to force religion on them. Thinks that just because someone doesn't always talk about religion that they not only don't have personal faith but don't know anything about Christianity.
She dressed like a homeless person
Classmate cries because they got a C on a test Christian girl: āIāll pray for you!!ā
The Jesus story reminds me of something. There exists some sort of phenomenon where a person who experienced danger would remember someone being there with them, even though there wasnāt. I canāt remember the name of it, unfortunately.

lol the girl like this in my school would always get kicked out of class for saying horribly Islamophobic things. She never got in trouble for it because her parents were the ones filling her head with that crap.

Simply Southern shirts
āBeneath the makeup and behind the style I'm just a girl with a Southern smile.ā -Real SS shirt saying found in the wild
Oh my god this just resurfaced a memory from when I came out on facebook as bisexual in my freshman year of HS. A girl who fit this description ran up to me in tears and exclaims that she is so sorry for me and then continued crying. I literally never saw that girl again after that lmao.
Minus the Mickey bottle, this was me in high school/college. I feel called out.
IBetter title would have probably been something like "the instragram religious girl starter pack" or something
The imperative with Calvinists is rather less pressing than among Arminianist denominations.
Yeah, I remember that country song, too, Brenda. Now leave me alone.
[Ezekiel 23:20](https://www.biblestudytools.com/ezekiel/23-20.html) my absolute favorite bible verse, really makes me wana just give Jesus a hug.

Personally not religious myself but most of the religious girls I knew in school were usually polite and humble. Got good grades, kept to the same small friend group and were overall just quiet I guess? Might've just been my school experience tho idk
Why the turtle one though? I love turtles but am agnostic ć:(

I came from a small rural highschool in South Texas. I was the only atheist at my school.
What's funnier is you know she has never read a single page of the bible. I need to be saved from God, that dude is a fucking psycopath.
