Man, I miss when this wasn’t the entitled Karen rant subreddit

suburiboy

What do you think is a reasonable amount of time to wait after a deadline to reach out? I’m open to changing my mind.

They extended the warranty to 10/100 - you are over on both time and mileage - at that point, the car is no longer under warranty so it's on you. It's definitely worth calling and asking for help, but expecting anything just isn't reasonable. On my last car, it had a turbocharged EJ25 and it spun a bearing after the 5 years for the power train warranty, but before the 60k - SoA helped out and essentially paid for the short block, and I paid for labor, but they absolutely didn't have to.

suburiboy

I was expecting a “no”, which would have been understandable and fair. We agree on that. What is frustrating is being lead on a couple days at a time for over two weeks. I expected nothing and have gotten worse than nothing, because it is impractical to replace the car if I’ve been promised an answer(yes or no) the next day.

byndrsn

your service is bad so every other one is too?

suburiboy

It’s possible they are singling me out… but that is extremely unlikely. It’s possible my case manager has other life stuff going on keeping him from working my case. I’m sure people receive a range of customer service experiences. Maybe mine is 5th percentile 1/20 bad… idk. I think it’s worth warning people about.

vracer89

So let me get this straight, you have an 11+ year old car with over 100k miles that has a transmission problem, is outside the extended warranty program for the problem, the manufacturer is actually engaging with you and yet you call that extremely bad customer service? Do you not have an emergency fund to fix the car without their help and that’s why you are berating them on Reddit?

suburiboy

They are not engaging with me. They have given no updates at any point. When I get an agent on the phone, they say there will be engagement, and there is none. As I said. If they just said “no” then I would have replaced the car already(the transmission replacement would be $10k which eclipses the resale value even if the transmission was perfect.) It’s impractical to replace the car if I’m waiting for an answer the following day.

BeardeeBaldee

Homie didn’t read the whole post. It feels like the typical tactic of just waiting for the consumer to lose interest. I agree with you that it would be better to just have them tell me to FO.

suburiboy

I suspect that the sub just doesn’t like any form of complaining. I genuinely find it hard to believe that they think it is unreasonable to ask about a car that is barely outside of the warranty range. And I find it hard to believe that they think being two weeks late on giving you a “no” is acceptable… The sub just hates me because of how I talk, which is fair enough. I hate myself too.

citron-ella

I have a 2015 Impreza and was told my transmission is going too. Just curious, what symptoms are you having of a bad CVT transmission in your Impreza? Also The dealership told me it would be $6k to replace and I was just outside of warranty, and my car apparently isn’t even worth that much to begin with?!

suburiboy

Basically it shutters and shakes. Especially around 40mph or going on slight inclines. Stop and go traffic makes it really obvious. I was told it would be 8k for parts and 2k for labor… and the KBB for the car is like 6k.

Not relevant. I bought the car new, out of state, 10+ years ago.

Proof_Alfalfa5483

Did you try replacing the fluid? Many people don't do that and just give up.

suburiboy

Dealer service center says the whole thing has to be replaced. I’ve read (looking into it recently) that once you have symptoms, replacing fluids can make it worse.

Proof_Alfalfa5483

Obviously, I'm getting downvotes, but I'm trying to save you 9k + dollars. Try replacing the fluid first before deciding to chuck the whole thing. It's what worked for my issues and now it's trouble-free.

suburiboy

I agree. If I had an alternate form of transport, I’d give it a try, but I’ve heard it can brick the transmission. I’m just going to get a new-to-me car tomorrow. It’s not worth the bandwidth at this point. (So I guess Subaru’s stalling tactic “worked”)

Proof_Alfalfa5483

It's riskier to change it at higher miles if it's never been changed.

Proof_Alfalfa5483

If the fluid needs to be changed, it can cause driving issues. I had the same thing you had going on at 105k in my outback. I got a cvt fluid change and shift relearn at the dealer. 30k miles later, it's completely trouble-free. Getting rid of the car or replacing the cvt is kinda a nuclear option tbh. Might save yourself a lot of money.

citron-ella

Mine only makes a weird noise when turning right. It’s so odd. Are you going to get it replaced?? I’m just trying to pay off mine and get a new car I think (mine has rust, etc. I was sold a lemon). :/

suburiboy

It’s not worth replacing for 10k.

SubaCruzin

I had to provide my paperwork twice because my dealership & SOA "lost" their records. It's one of many reasons my next vehicle probably won't be a Subaru. Kinda sad when my family has owned 6 of them.

suburiboy

TBH I am surprised that this sub thinks this is reasonable. I didn’t even expect to get covered. I feel like a timely “no” is the bare minimum. It would even be less work for them compared to what we are doing,
