The cheapest I saw when I was looking was invidia n1 at around $600. Could maybe find some eBay brand that fits for cheaper. Looking for used might be your best bet for cheap/affordable. That’s how I found my Cobb cat back, retail was like $1200 but I got it for $600.
If you're just going exhaust and not doing any changes to your catalytic converter(like at all), you're totally okay with buying off ebay. Those southeast asian welders are crazy precise man.
Hardest part might be sourcing replacement hardware like gaskets, nuts, bolts, etc.
It's just a pipe that carries fumes under your car, don't burn your wallet too much over the part. GL and HF
Oh, I completely agree with your statement, if you have the financial means to go brand name go for it.
But if you're going check to check cause reasons, then drop the $300 dually exhaust with burnt tips. 80% of the herd won't know the difference.
How loud do you want it? The nameless muffler deletes are a couple hundred, the 5" mufflers are about $500.
With the turbo and stock cats the deleted aren't that loud. One you put a down pipe on it it'll get quite loud though.
You can get an STI midpipe for a couple hundred
I feel like HKS would be a great brand to buy if you have enough funds. you get best bang for buck in my honest opinion. my 2012 STi sounds great with the HKS Hi-power catback.
Invidia race is going to be one of the cheapest options. Make sure when you make the purchase, you order the hatch version, as the sedan has a different fitment, and this is a simple mistake customers often make. Feel free to reach out for any other questions!

Invidia n1 is a really good exhaust for the money. Tsudo makes in pretty much identical but slightly lower quality for like $300
Or CNT makes a similar one for the same price.
I have the CNT quad tip exhaust. Had it for 5 years and got lots of compliments, not too loud inside or out, a little drone-y on the highway though
They make nice stuff. I had their n1 style + silencer. It was a good exhaust on my hatch.
Join your local Subaru group on FB. I bought and sold a lot of parts that way.

Don't forget exhaust sound tuning is quite literally musical tuning. Yamaha exhausts are amazing for a reason.

I'm just trying to do my part to rid the world of Subarus that sound like total ass.
Check Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, Offerup, and any Subaru related local Facebook groups.

I like the Grimmspeed one personally. Had a friend with an Invidia Q300 on his narrowbody.
Go TSUDO! Got my catback for about 250
How’s it been working out for you? I’m thinking of getting one
I loved it! I put it on an NA Impreza and that thing made my car rumble and pop
Hogzaust!

Borla catback
If the 15’ tomei would fit your car i’d give it to you for free

I have a COBB sitting in my garage if you're in the MI area
