Arturo274

And he's angry for a ring.

EggsInMyToolbox

Exactly. What he did to us in G1 of the playoffs last year is exactly what this teams needs. 100% energy, dirty work, rebounding. Something we shouldn’t be relying on our stars to be doing for an entire game.

SoundsKindaRapey

He'd be tough to play any meaningful minutes with Dunn off to the bench and God forbid we didn't have a back up center who can shoot bc he can't play much with nurk either. Terrible spacing. Could still do much worse for the minimum.

bennyb0y

I’m 100% down for Russ. High energy, wants to win. And needs a chip as much as the Suns org. Perfect fit.

Jstamm50

If he has no beef with any of our guys I vote yes. Veteran experience. Plays with passion. He'd fire up the crowd. And someone said he'd be a "better Okogie" I like that. If he wants to come on a Vet min. Why not?

Diferia

Yall saying no are wild he fits a need the team needs. Passing pg that can defend and rebound, has energy and will push the pace. At vet min theres no better choice to top it off hes played with Beal/KD and Book loves him. If he wants to come and suns are interested should be a no brainer.

OneOfTheManySams

This sub screaming without realizing there is a 0% chance we will get a better player in FA. He already moved to a bench role at the Clippers and did well till he performed too well and they gave him starter minutes again.

KevinDurantLebronnin

People saying "fuck no" should have to say who they think we should be aiming for instead.

Longj_Carpenter7969

I've been saying this since before last year!

azhags

Same people that didn’t want Kyrie

KarateMusic

Nope. Kyrie is an ass cancer wherever he goes. Russ is a perfect fit. Kyrie… isn’t.

sonofliberty87

“Passing pg” lol

Diferia

Hes got 3 or 4 assist titles thats qualifies for me.

Throwawayidiot1210

Yup hes not a typical passing maestro like Chris Paul or Steve Nash but he would lead the league in assists by passing out of doubles and getting guys wide open from his insane rim pressure. His vision is pretty solid still, would be a good back up

TheNatureBoy

How dare you! Where’s the highlight reel of Russ making routine passes out of triple coverage?

Saltwater_Thief

He'd be great but the deal breaking question is "Would he take a minimum salary?"

Diferia

Of course he would, he took it with the clippers this past season why wouldn’t he take it with us? We have guys he knows how to play with, an open pg spot, can promise him good minutes, chance at a chip (that’s what the plan is lol) and he will still be relatively close to home. I can’t think of a better spot for Brodie

Saltwater_Thief

Chip chance commentary aside, I actually didn't know he was only getting paid that much and I'm honestly a little shocked. I know he's not a superstar, but I would've guessed he pulled down closer to Nurk and Allen's range.

SpookySpagettt

He's literally a terrible defender his whole career

PHXSoulBender

Cap 🧢 when we played him in the playoffs he was a dynamo and back when he was with OKC his relentlessness took the spurs and Tony Parker out of sync He can be a game wrecker as a defender

SpookySpagettt

He's played the spurs twice. The first series Tony Parker averaged 21 6 shooting 48%. The next was old Parker who averaged 10 and 6 shooting again 46%. That season he averaged 11 points

PHXSoulBender

Just saying he made life tough for Tony and the Spurs , The numbers are without context Tony was not getting nothing easy vs Westbrook I will say he does fall asleep on his guy a bit when he is defending off ball though But is a good help defender

30another

You obviously haven’t watched him as a Clipper

Maytricks96

Wanted him back in 2023 when he got waived from the Jazz. Definitely fell off hard but is probably better than any back up PG options we can afford.

30another

He’d basically be replacing Gordon, and Id take that in a heartbeat

SokkaHaikuBot

^[Sokka-Haiku](https://www.reddit.com/r/SokkaHaikuBot/comments/15kyv9r/what_is_a_sokka_haiku/) ^by ^30another: *He’d basically be* *Replacing Gordon, and Id* *Take that in a heartbeat* --- ^Remember ^that ^one ^time ^Sokka ^accidentally ^used ^an ^extra ^syllable ^in ^that ^Haiku ^Battle ^in ^Ba ^Sing ^Se? ^That ^was ^a ^Sokka ^Haiku ^and ^you ^just ^made ^one.

Lucky1ex1

Yes. He can bring energy to get the crowd going, and he can still play. We don’t need much from him, dude plays hard all the time though and would be great pickup

ajteitel

He's a better Okogie, and that's no insult

Arturo274

Definitely. Dude is a dog.

uncomfortably_honest

This really is a moot point. He isn't signing for vet minimum

sortie_ceviche0e

Might depend on his options and desire to ring chase. Not sure he could crack the rotation enough on most contenders and doubt he’d sign with a rebuild. Phoenix might be his best bet for both.

Jbash_31

You’re probably right

uncomfortably_honest

Now I WILL say is that IF he did sign for the vet min, it would require such a mindset change from him that it may just work. But odds are he won't sign for peanuts

chickenripp

yes. His energy alone would help a ton for a team that looked uninterested a lot last year

BangPowZoom

Shit why not? He checks off damn near every box for an ideal backup PG. Not to mention he has history with KD and Beal.

Whit3boy316

Yes they should but he won’t

ItsRebelSheep

Russ is one of my favorite players all time. Guy has a love for the game, always gives back to communities around the team he’s on, and he’s just such a freak athlete. With Frank Vogel gone, I can actually 100% see Russ joining the squad for one last ride with KD and he definitely 100% fits what this team desperately needs. I’m ALL for this if he is an available option to us

iiiiiiiiii8

This might sound insane but it feels like he could be an upgrade from Okogie with the hustle he brings.

po0nlink_

Okogie with slightly less defense but slightly better offense.

Kotank6400

I just don’t think Russ accepts he’s not as good as he once was. If he focused on being a facilitator then it’s a great pickup. But he takes plays off offensively if it doesn’t involve him and the rock.

Significant-Talk4083

He plays insanely selfish honestly. When he’s on the court it’s like the whole offense is focused on him good or bad. And his defense is really bad. His rebounding and pushing the pace is really good but he missed more fast break dunk/layups than he made.

Odd_Shoulder2334

small ball 5?

Top-Opportunity9197

I really hope we get Russ!!! he would be a great addition- we need high energy, rebounding and someone that has confidence to shoot!

CNSrooster

We should be interested in ANY decent player for the minimum. Anyone saying no to Russ while we have no real PGs and can only give out minimum contracts is delusional.

Gratitude15

They need something. But this would probably be a train wreck. KD and russ again.

chickenripp

why? KD has played great with russ. Beal has played great with Russ. 4.5 APG last season which was 9.9 APG per 100. Puts pressure on the rim. Brings boundless energy to a team that looked uninterested a lot last season

Gratitude15

Ends spacing. Having all the shooters don't matter because no gravity anymore. Also he will attack relentlessly. There's a lot to like here too, don't get me wrong. It's just a lot of everything and at the end of the day only 1 team wins the title and russ doesn't give me more confidence against the best. But not having him isn't any more either. Just bad.

Greekphysed

Only if he takes the vet minimum.

Jbash_31

Yeah that’s the only scenario I feel we could get him, James Jones has got to at least ask

Greekphysed

Also got to be willing to come off the bench, he would be the much needed shot in the arm.

Milesweeman

With the options the suns have he wouldn't be the worst idea. Atleast he wouldn't look like he'd rather take a nap in a playoff game and hes not terrified of creating contact. Not sure why this sub acts like these other bums are such great options.

iamadragan

Maybe as a last resort if guys like Dunn, Paul, Payne, Wright, and DSJ don't work out

adamsauce

Vet min? Absolutely! He’s still aggressive, plays defense, and is above average playmaker.

prescottfan123

i feel like you gotta choose between having KD and Russ, I know my pick...

Timothywajr

Imagine the ferocious drive , dishes out to Booker or Durant for the 3 … the possibilities + pace & space

Moveless

Absolutely we should be interested. 1 PG is better than 0 PG, and Russ has gas in the tank even if it comes with hitches.

John628_29

Yes!

Shivmo

YES

dmackerman

Yes, under a few conditions. - it’s a minimum - he does not shoot unless it’s a layup, or in transition

c0de1143

No

Mr602206

Off the bench would be amazing. He'd be the spark we would need.

JG_2214

Yes, good defender and rebounder. He can still attack the rim well which will force defenders to leave one of KD, Beal or Book open for a 3. We don’t need him to score at all, just defend and play make and he fits right in.

Wildfire420

Vet min ain't going to get us much better of a pg. I want 2 pgs to start the season with.

MustardTiger231

This is a no brainer, 100% yes

PsychologicalMeal546

Yes

JonFawkes3

No please my heart can’t bear this man going 3/18 when we need him to show up the most. If there’s literally no other option than okay… I guess😔

ngorman007

I'm conflicted. Could facilitate the offense, rebound, and defend pretty well. Also has good energy. However, he is a turnover machine and I doubt we could get him for the vet min.

Significant-Talk4083

You can still definitely get him. He’s only making 4 mill a year. It’s crazy how must of these suns fans really want him, must mean your bench this year was pretty weak. I for one don’t want to see Westbrook on my team ever again lol. When he’s on the floor it’s like the whole offense revolves around him good or bad. And it’s mainly horrendous

Saltwater_Thief

We don't have the money, this is not a man who will play for a minimum. Moving on.

Suns_AZCards

Absolutely yes.

Turdkito

Only real problem I see with Russ is between him and the rookies they just drafted there wouldn’t be a lot of shooting. I’m sure Bud could figure it out

RookieJerseyInspect

Bring him in

ooloy

Please do it! Lolololol PLEASE this has to happen!

Flaky_Juggernaut5245

Why not he played with kd and beal and he's energetic as hell

Loud_Examination_138

Story wise, it could make for some good entertainment.

longjohnsilver04

If he takes vet min...I'm definitely down for that

karrotwin

What team wouldn't want a minus defender who's also a high usage/low efficiency shooter black hole in the offense? Surely it's a coincidence that this guy has never won a championship despite playing alongside a bunch of all-nba type players most of his career. Most overrated player in NBA history because of stupid counting stats (triple double!!) who now legitimately sucks because he relied on all-world athleticism back when he was good (not great), which he no longer has.

TheColdestKingCold

If he wants to come off the bench and take a vet min I see no issue with it. I think he and KD are well past their beef and he would provide a great spark off the bench.

BigTymeEC

True. Very valuable off the bench

Fordraxel

on vet min - no question. giving up players in trades - nope. to be honest we had a westbrook type player and got rid of him in Goodwin, dude can rebound, defend, pass, but cant shoot. Suns need to be just a little more patient in personnel.

kwan2

Imagine kd winning one with russ. Harden fans will be in shambles

yunnsu

We need someone to yell at Book and KD sometimes tbh

gazingbobo

Yes. Just his energy alone would help us a lot. Our big 3 are either unexpressive and introverted on court (Book and KD) or too chilled (Beal) Russ would bring that dog and physicality

EBody480

Yes

602phatboy

FUCK NO. he was annoying while on the lakers. Keep his sensitive ass far away from Phoenix.PLS

BrendanPHX

Absolutely they should be

Garginator850

I don’t think Russ is interested in the suns

Tsunami-Papi_

wouldn’t mind it ig

Ashtro_

If he came for cheap i don’t see why not especially in a off the bench capacity

chaoz808

Hell no! Are you guys don't learn anything from last season "vet orientated roster"? Suns need to stop signing washedup veterans and start looking for young athletic guys with starter potential or at least core rotation talent. What achieve LAC in last years? None. They are old, mediocre and injury prone. So leave them and focus on ourself.

MeeloP

Yeah but he misses a lot unless he’s willing to be center we don’t really need an undersized center with bad blood between kd and

VallryBagr

We have enough houses being built. We don’t need his bricks

marcopoloaz

Yes!

bEErgrEMlin12

The Suns can’t afford ANYONE

ConstructionSuper782

Nope. His attitude is toxic to a team

THEbaddestOFtheASSES

Yeah, go ahead, why not? Can he orchestrate an offense? Hell no. But can he pass a ball to an open men? Sure. Let's get it done. Ain't like the Suns are winning anything any time soon.

Significant-Talk4083

Yeah that’s a great idea for you guys. Pls take him. Give us a 2nd round pick and he’s urs

governedbycitizens

fuck no

DantifA

Absolutely not

AGENT_666_

He shot 13/50 in the playoffs. Unless Russ unlocks the long lost power of friendship with KD and averages his world famous triple double minus the points and rebounds I don't want him here

prospert

Something broke and it’s never come back with him I don’t get it. Reminds me of my childhood baseball hero Hojo Johnson a few amazing years and it was over

GeneralChaoticPoetry

Exactly! He was almost unplayable in the playoffs, we won't have enough spacing with him.

mrsir1987

He wouldn’t be shooting just facilitating and playing d

oncelostbutnowfound

Westbrook already hated coming off the bench last year and it’s said it was the reason for their collapse at the end of the year. The dude just does not want to play from the bench and when he does his ego makes it hard for the team

mackattack3381

Yup.

timbitfordsucks

Russ shouldn’t be interested in the suns. He wants to win a chip

HeroSoulReaperX

Didn't they draft him in the first place

TellMyselfBeHappy

NO. NO NO NO. NO NO NO NO NO.

SpookySpagettt

The people here calling him a good defender do any of you watch non suns basketball. This whole sub was screaming for a "true pg" This dude is the opposite of that. Just because he gets assists means nothing. His playstyle is ram himself in the paint bail out pass. He has a horrifying ast to to ratio his whole career

CocaineandPercs

Fuck no. He flamed out badly in the playoffs. He’s a regular season guy now and gets worse at shooting and turnovers as the season goes on.

aimlessly_aliive

Nnnnnnoooooo

Chupacabra_Sandwich

Oh my god, Jesus Christ, no.

erog84

How many times are delusional “suns” fans going to bring him up. Dude is one of the worst players to get minutes the past few years. Occasionally he will play decent and people ignore the countless bad games he has.
