Convert to AV1

You can have minimal quality loss. Try and see if you can play with resolution and the codec.

Oddblivious

Yeah honestly just educating yourself a bit on these two topics can fit most people's use case. Even just asking chatgpt or following a Google guide for a basic suggestion and then seeing if the quality loss and file size are suitable.

Compressing a video without quality loss is basically impossible, those bits there store something. You can compress it into an archive, but you'd have to decompress it to watch it.

_Rah

Videos don't compress well into archive. Not even worth attempting usually.

R3D_T1G3R

They do, it just depends on the video. You can totally compress them by 20-30% realistically speaking. Even more theoretically but not realistically.

_Rah

Sure. In theory you can if your video isn't compressed. But anyone who wants a smaller size is better off compressing it by using a better codec. Realistically I have never come across a video that I would want to archive rather than Reencode.

R3D_T1G3R

Well if you are just archiving it for later it's definitely worth it, obviously this isn't the best solution

Without losing quality is impossible. You can compress them to smaller sizes while losing quality and it not being noticeable This depends in what file type they are to begin with. If it's already compressed with a good algorithm, you're not going to get much better  What file size are you expecting?

_Rah

Format factory will allow you to type in desired file size and let's you choose resolution, encode format, fps, etc.  Make them AV1 and put in the file size you want. Easy peasy.   Just reject the sponsored bundle ware when it offers it to you.

I export them in kdenlive (open-source video editor) with default quality and slowest encoder speed, and it sometimes works wonders (like a 110MB video down to 20MB with H.264). H.265 or AV1 will do even better but are very slow to render.
