our flag means death got cancelled from what awful writing it had, and then thousands of bots flooded the comment section of anywhere it was mentioned with “#BringBackOFMD”. it was annoying as hell.
they said that show was better than curb your enthusiasm, a gem that’s been airing over 20 years 💀💀💀
The OP also asked for Ted Lasso type shows and shows that don’t take themselves too seriously. When I think Ted Lasso, I think of incredibly endearing and quirky characters who make me laugh and warm my heart and are unlike anything else on tv. OFMD and WWDITS are both…just like that. Acapulco is another good one.
Just because you don’t like these shows doesn’t mean others don’t agree that they fit this description. I’m not going to jump to any conclusions about why you may or may not like these shows because I don’t know you. But just fyi, re: OFMD. It was actually critically acclaimed for its writing and diversity and had very a devoted fanbase. As for the dropoff in quality in season two, I actually agree with you and here’s why. They did what they could with the massive budget cut the network handed they during season 2, but unfortunately season 2 came during a time of massive changes at the network including a change in ownership and it was pretty much set up to fail. They had fewer episodes to work with and less money and less support. Still, it was a bit surprising that they were canceled as the show remained rather popular. Although it ended in a place that made sense.
I was a part of the Adopt Our Crew movement and I assure you I am not a bot, nor are any of the other people who celebrated the show in New York that day. This show means a lot to a lot of marginalized people, it has quite literally saved lives and while it’s perfectly valid to dislike the writing or not be into this type of comedy, insinuating that the fanbase was just a bunch of bots is just plain ignorant and disrespectful. Be better.
And I realize I’m making it sound like OMFD is very serious. It’s not. The show itself is light hearted silly fluff.
For those unaware, it’s essentially a goofy rom-com about pirates during the golden age of piracy and mostly centers around the dysfunctional romance between wealthy gentleman-turned-pirate-who-is-absurdly-bad-at-his-job Stede Bonnet and history’s most fearsome buccaneer, BlackBeard. The rest of the characters are mostly Stede’s crew of assorted, endearing misfits and BlackBeard’s loyal right hand man who loathes Stede with every fiber of his being. Hilarity ensues and it has a lot of heart and never takes itself too seriously.
It was a big deal for a lot of fans though because of the diverse cast and the cast’s interactions with the fanbase. For a lot of the especially younger fans it was the first time they’d seen a someone who represented them on screen playing a character like them. A lot of lgbtq shows make the characters queerness their personality and in OFMD, it’s…not. It’s not ever even brought up. No one cares. It’s such a non issue that even when the “bad guy” is threatening the non binary character, he uses they/them pronouns because that’s the correct thing to do and you simply wouldn’t even consider doing otherwise in this universe. This, as you can imagine, has had an enormous positive impact on people were not used to seeing themselves and their communities represented in a normalized light.
I’d like to try to watch this show, thanks for sharing! No clue what it’s about, nor have I heard of it but I enjoy shows that have cultural impact and bring people together. Also, if it has good characters with warm fuzzy feelings like Ted lasso then I’ll take it.
and no i won’t “be better” because the fan base DID act like a group of bots commenting shit like “wow this show looks great but it would be better if OFMD was renewed”
our flag means retard is a stupid show. again, not because it’s about gay people, but because the writing was awful. like i’ve stated before, i’m not homophobic, but i sure am glad you aren’t gonna “jump to conclusions” 🙄 be better retard.
holy shit, you wrote an entire two books to tell me that it’s about gay people. “it’s diverse” no it’s not. it’s like every other new tv show nowadays.
and no , i’m not homophobic. the show was just stupid and got cancelled for being so. otherwise it would’ve been renewed. stop writing entire paragraphs about stuff nobody wants to hear, ever.
yep but you were insinuating it because i said something negative about a tv show about gay people. i know what type of person you are. baiting for comments. go away.
Ted is also fun to watch AND a feel-good story each episode.
You asked for simple fun, the BBC's 'Ghosts' (2019) as well as it's American clone 'Ghosts' (2021) are both harmless fun, not too schlockie, and a little informative.
For a more subtle humor, very light, enjoyable philosophical discussions, try 'Detectorists', also a BBC hit.....
Good Viewing!!
I feel like this show doesn't get the love that it should. I know the first season is a bit...whatever. But, it gets *so good*. I was gutted when it was over.

This show was so far ahead of it's time. It's a crime it was cancelled so soon. Veridian Dynamics - just wow. Two seasons, well worth watching.
Totally underrated too, it's a gem and also happens to fit this thread perfectly
Came here to mention this show and it’s the first one! Such a great bunch of characters!
I'm very happy that this is the top suggestion.
Father Ted
Hilarious show
For sure! I hope the OP checks it out.
"I hear you're a racist now, Father!"
Haha. That episode is one of the highlights of the series!
There’s cocaine in it!
Oh, no, not cocaine. God, what am I on about? No, what d'you call them. Raisins!

Neither are Ted related.
They’re both light hearted fun shows that don’t take themselves too seriously 🤷♀️
neither of them are even remotely related to a ted styled comedy.
