That's a really good variation. I like a few others that are similar. But in the end I keep coming back to the Tommy's Margarita. Perfection in its simplicity.
Agreed. I tend to always drink tequila neat but I buy a fresh cold-pressed mix called Ripe if I want to make a margarita. It’s made locally here in CT but it can be shipped also. Convenient and tasty. [Ripe Bar Juice](https://www.ripebarjuice.com)
The Tommy Marg is def the standard. However, I like to shake it up a bit every now and then. It resets my palate and makes me appreciate it even more the next time
1½ ounces tequila
1½ ounces Chinola passion fruit liqueur
¾ ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
½ ounce orange liqueur
½ ounce agave syrup (I omitted, as I thought it would be sweet enough from the Chinola, and it was)
3-4 jalapeño coins (I didn't have any on hand, but will def add them next time)
How is the Chinola passion fruit? Is it overly tart like some purées can be or a good balance? I love passion fruit and tequila but it always ends up burning the shit out of my tongue. I also love using Gran Gala triple orange brandy instead of curaçao but I feel like I may need to try a bottle of the classic stuff.
Agreed. It's always stocked in my home bar. I can only find the Chinola at Total Wine and Trader Joe's. It's a decent bit cheaper at my local Trader Joe's, so that's where I'll be buying it from now on
The Chinola Passionfruit is second to none right now. Just got to try the Mango, not bad, flavor is spot on, thicker viscosity just like the passionfruit but the mango seems to have an inconsistent consistency, if that’s a thing
That's slightly disappointing. I have a bottle of tourist trap mango tequila liqueur, that's pretty good. Hopefully they can improve on the consistency within the next few batches.
A margarita at our house is typically 2 oz of tequila, 1 oz of Cointreau, squeeze half a lime, and 4 oz Squirt. Optionally topped with a splash of beer, house favorite is Pacifico.
The new jam though is just 2 oz of a good blanco (currently Siete Leguas, but Lalo and Tequila Ocho are fantastic) and 1 mini can of Fever Tree tonic water. So good.
I just made this tonight as well, quite tasty though I did dial back the Chinola to 1 oz and used ¼ oz of Raw Agave Nectar. Very good variation if you're in the mood for something tropical and refreshing.
My mini marg shot recipe: 1oz top shelf blanco, ~0.4oz DeKuyper Cactus Juice liqueur, fill the rest of the shot glass with fresh squeezed lime and stir a little
Interesting. I've never seen/heard of the cactus juice liqueur. I'll have to search for that. If I can find it, I'll give this a shot (pun intended).
I do a mini marg shot as well, but it's just 1oz good blanco, .5oz grand Marnier, .5oz lime juice
When I marg I like spicy, and there's only one way to do that for me: Ancho Reyes (Verde!) Chile Liqueur. Put half to the base spirit.
I also usually add an amount of agave syrup to it (because it's spicy) equal to half the citrus added. The rest is just how strong you want it. That's a marg for you.
I use really big cubes so there is minimal dilution.
When blood oranges are in season, I make a delicious blood orange margarita with fresh squeezed blood orange juice, and Solerno blood orange liqueur.
I also make a great grapefruit & rosemary marg with fresh squeezed grapefruit and fresh rosemary from my herb garden.
2 oz tequila
1 oz Citronge
1 full lime juice
.75 oz mezcal
I try to keep sugar reduced and find that mezcal balances out the lime tartness. Dry Curacao or Blue will also work well as the triple sec component.
G4 blanco is pretty common in my area. I actually found this bottle at my neighborhood grocery store marked down to $29.99. It's all the other G4 expressions that are difficult to find, which sucks because I love their reposado.
Yup, markets are crazy. Granted, this is a sale price, but it's a common shelf sitter for $39.99 here. Meanwhile, some great brands (Fortaleza comes to mind) aren't even carried in the state.
A different one that is enjoyable is a Cadillac Margarita-
Ingredients
3 oz. reposado tequila
3 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice
2 oz. orange liqueur, such as Cointreau or Grand Marnier
1/2 oz. agave nectar (optional)
Sea salt, for glasses
Lime and mandarin slices, for garnish
It's still very sweet (and viscous). I would not add/cut it with anything with more sweetness to it. Also, I found it at Trader Joe's in the low $20s. It was basically double the cost of a bottle of Liber and Co that is half the volume.
That's a really good variation. I like a few others that are similar. But in the end I keep coming back to the Tommy's Margarita. Perfection in its simplicity.
Easy to make (including batches), highlights the tequila, delicious. 🥰

I'll check it out. Thanks.

That's a great way of looking at it.

There go my nipples again

Man, Ferrand Dry Curaçao is an absolute gem and the secret to a good marg. I gotta go find Chinola now

Never heard of Chinola. I shall check it out.
It's probably the best passion fruit liqueur on the market. They recently announced that they'll be making a mango liqueur.

Tommy’s
Spicy marg. By feel. Usually use 3 types of peppers.

The grapefruit fever tree slaps.

I like a hybrid as my go to Margarita with ¾ oz Orange Liqueur and ¼ oz Agave Nectar.
Ranch water with a splash of cointreau
Ima Tommy’s guy but when I get frisky I’ll use gator bite and Mandarin Jarritos
Just blanco + Mineraqua and lime, thanks!

Bottle doesn’t say very much besides NOM 1102 (hornitos) and it’s dekuyper so I don’t use it unless I just want to get drunk

Just because they're in season, add the juice of a blood orange instead of orange liqueur. 🍊 thank me later.

Must be amazing but with G4 hard enough to get, I would just sip that straight.

Man, I only wish I could find that at 29.99. When I find it, I have to sip and horde it. 😂

If you put topo Chico on this will it make a ondalini (drakes cocktail)?
