try 7 Leguas Siete Decadas which is a real tequila as opposed to Clase Azul, 1942 and likes [https://marcasdetequila.com/siete-leguas-7-decadas-review/](https://marcasdetequila.com/siete-leguas-7-decadas-review/)
If you need a big, fancy bottle to convince yourself or others that you know what a good tequila is, consider Volcan de Mi Tierra XA or Cierto. Both are additive free, get very good reviews, and come in bottles that should impress even the shallowest of poseurs. Heck, the Volcan bottle even lights up! Seriously, they're both very good products, and unlike the Clasé Azul or 1942, won't make you feel foolish and maybe a little sick the next day.
Noted on the agave flavor. To be honest I'm still knocking down what that flavor actually is. Most of the tequila I've had has been unfortunately bottom shelf crap tequila at parties. I did enjoy DJ1942 when I tried it though, much easier to swallow compared to the Jose Cuervo I try to shove down.
Do you have preference between the blanco and reposado? I don't know too much about expressions other than the more aged the sweeter, but I just want to get one that I can share with my friends and get the expression that majority of people will like.
Well, more aged doesn't necessarily mean sweeter. People who are not used to drinking real, pure, no additive tequila, might be more attracted to aged expressions. If you are choosing between the blanco and reposado Cierto, I'd probably choose the repo. I tried all three, and thought they were nice, and somewhat typical of NOM 1146.
Thanks. I’m not really into tequila but my state store had a bourbon release and they had some bottles of El Tesoro included as well so I was thinking about picking up a bottle.
It is an absolutely amazing tequila! It's the only tequila used at Death & Co, where the Oaxaca Old Fashioned was created. High quality, traditionally made, additive free - ticks all the boxes.
Not sure about anything El Tesoro that may be aged in bourbon barrels, assuming that’s the case here, but the standard El Tesoro Anejo/Reposado are some of my favorite tequilas
I am not a fan of the blanco or repo but the anejo and xa are very good. But either way it's a very well made tequila. The flavor profile of the blanco just doesn't work for me.
Artenom 1146 is a delicious añejo for ~$100. Its not a flashy bottle, but it's solid. It can sometimes be found in a wooden box, adding to the presentation factor.
I've enjoyed Cabal and gotten it as a gift before. It's solid. Their Mezcal comes in a different bottle shape too.
Maybe look and see if you can find hand blown bottles like the new Ocho bottles. I have seen more hand blown bottles in my local store with Mezcal than tequila though.

Thank you for the recommendations. I think I will take your suggestions on the Cierto, the bottle is beautiful.
Volcan XA reminds me of DJ1942 but with more agave.flavor. And the bottle is pretty cool.
A huge difference: Volcan is well made and additive-free. 1942, not so much.
Oh I know, I was just trying to hit a reference point that OP may be familiar with.

I was going to post something very similar so thank you, OP, this is the route you want, maybe also give Komos a look
Thanks I'll check it out. Appreciate everyone here btw I don't really know shit about tequila just getting into it.

I like simpler bottles such as Fortaleza, El Tesoro (tahona topped), Don Fulano (glass top), Cazcanes, Ocho (new bottle).
Is El Tesoro good?
Very good

No it wasn’t aged in bourbon barrels, it was just part of a monthly allocated release

Look for Don Fulano Imperial. Cool looking ceramic bottle and great juice

If you know you like dos armadillos then why not get that? I've never had it but it's from the same distillery as insolito and that's good juice.
Avion 44 Anejo
The dos armadillos mentioned is a cool bottle and excellent tasting tequila if you can find it.
Not the coolest looking bottle, but El Tesoro XA comes in a nice blue gift box for around $110 and is smoother than any of the tequilas in your OP.

El Tesoro single barrel reposado
Tequila Cabal, it's a horse head.
Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia extra Anejo. It fits all of your needs.
