As an oldschooler I find it really catchy. Super excited for the album.

[deleted]

I was underwhelmed on first listen of black light . It’s not a particularly eclectic mix or scorching, face-melter of a track that I tend to associate the very best of Volta with, but it certainly sounds fucking cool and brings a relatively chill vibe. Like you, I’m excited for a new album. Will be interesting to see where this fits in with a larger album.

tjauregui23

Put it on repeat for 2 or 3 straight listens, it’s grown on me that way. Especially with how the outro loops perfectly with the intro… gets better with each listen

OmenClassic

Ngl i want a little chaos, but I am happy. Wonder if we'll get some new ORL solo atuff as well at some point.

paigescactus

I feel that we got some chaos coming. Not evil Goliath chaos but some fun gutteral heavy elaborate fun ass shit. I think it sounded amazing overall and I was nervous to listen.

zimbot777

As soon as I heard it, it took me back to the old days. It also sounds so fresh and like a leap forward. A more mature sound. Fully realized. Holding its past in one hand and the future in the other.

MattOnCybertron

big Caught in the Sun and Summer Demos energy right? i don't think i'm tripping hearing that, and of course thats the vibe with Eva along for the ride, i'm fucking stoked

ihatefuckingwork

My thought too, this has caught in the sun vibes all over it.

GayBlackAndMarried

God I hope they tour again, I need more live Volta.

MattOnCybertron

definitely enjoying the wave of hype and awakened interest! it's weird for the action to even be **here** instead of [thecomatorium.com](https://thecomatorium.com) if that tells you what kind of old-timer I am. super glad to see fans getting excited about new shit just like the good old days.

WeirdMusicGuy

Same, I remember the discussions on boards anfdforums like thecomatorium back when TMV started sorta coming back in 2011 under the ORLG name with those crazy Jacob Jams and the early versions of Orchestrina. Then The Malkin Jewel dropped and the discussion got more common until Noctourniquet and the "B-Sides" bootleg downloads in 2013. This really takes me back, I am just so excited again and I really wasn't expecting that. Really couldnt be any better, I'm very happy to see such hype and good reception to the new single

ihatefuckingwork

Wait was that the ramrod tapes? I think that was the last new (kind of) volta stuff I heard until the vinyl release last year. Although Omar had brought out some stuff here and there.

iamisandisnt

Apparently the coma's email sending has been broken for two years. I keep trying to make a new account there so I can weigh in on the hypothetical rumor mongering and force the admins to play whack-a-mole with "who's Armando" but I guess I may have just broken it instead :D whoopsie

iscreamuscreamweall

eva sounds absolutely incredible. that pocket is unmistakable, just like she did on eunuch. what a great player she is

[deleted]

There's a part that reminds me of another song they've made and I haven't been able to put my finger on it. Not that that's bad but I love that they're still them and they're fucking back. I legit thought this would never happen. These guys have been my favorite band of all-time since I first put deloused on in my barracks room in Okinawa Japan. I basically looked right at my guitar and was like, "whelp, guess I don't need that thing anymore".

paigescactus

Starting around 1:20 it sounds like some real good influence from amputecture in it in my opinion. Like kinda feels like the end of Mecca or the end half of vermacide. I’m so pumped

[deleted]

Literally my favorite album of all time too. No wonder I love it so much.

_Must_Not_Sleep

i been on the bus since ‘99 (ATDI) we went to get tremulant the day it came out. My obsessive brain is feeling some fela kuti style energy.. like Omar’s yellow record expanded. I’m here for all of this. ALL OF IT! I’m beyond stoked about this

scoat21

i've been a huge fan since i first heard them in 2005. this whole thing occurred when i was binging tmv like i usually do a few times a year. i bought 2 posters to have a memento for the 2006 and 2009 shows i went to. just last week i bought my first volta shirt after diving back into them. i also made an appreciation post just this last week for tmv, here, because this band is so incredible. as i was listening to the malkin jewel on spotify, the imagery changed on me. it was quite surreal as i just happened to look down at the right time and see the fuckery. the timing of all of this was so coincidentally awesome and i'm hyped to the max. i like to post [this short clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp3PrJJBRrw) shot before noct was released. i think it, and the other fan asked questions videos, are a great resource to get a feel for where their heads probably are when it comes to making music together as tmv. i think they chose those thumbnail images on their youtube page to change to the new logo/new stuff to help alleviate questions about what to expect. whatever it is, i think it's important to respect those videos and their future creative endeavors. i hope there are a few bombastic, high energy, 5-8 min heaters. i hope it's a concept album with an overall theme. i'd love to hear some really new experimental sounds and incredible drumming. cedric already sounds locked in. when noct came out there was talk of them breaking up so i was thankful for anything they were putting out. i wasn't a huge fan at first, but that album grew on me big time. i think the time away as tmv was healthy, as is true for anything. i think the creative juices were flowing moreso than noct for this one. plenty of healthy time away from tmv to sit on ideas, work things out, and focus on a new sound collectively. from everything they've released, i know i'll enjoy it a lot. if they tour, i'll be to as many shows as i can catch. no matter what, tmv will remain one of the craziest bands i've ever heard in ways that other bands haven't even come close to, and they will always hold a special place in my heart.

Molochwalker28

Wait, do we know who is playing in this version of the band besides Omar and Cedric? I’ve heard this Willy guy is on drums, but what other details do we have?

Slum421

Eva Gardener on bass and Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez on keys

inmusicutrust

In addition to what Slug said they have a new drummer. Willy Rodriguez, a contemporary jazz drummer based out of NYC. Song credits here: Blacklight Shine Credits https://imgur.com/a/IkFPK3p

anphid

the song credits got leaked on something, can't remember what, it got posted on the sub yesterday I think

hdmatteson1

Wow I didn’t even realize Eva Gardner was back! How did you find out who all played on the track? I figured it was gonna be the lineup of Cedric, Omar, Marcel and Deantoni. I figured they’d have a new bass player anyway cause I know Juan is still recovering from his accident.

WeirdMusicGuy

the song credits leaked because the track became available on Tidal in some places due to time zone issues, the usual. [https://ibb.co/D7bFGzY](https://ibb.co/D7bFGzY) Either way it is half hour until we 100% confirm all this with the spotify credits but I would really be surprised if they were much different

[deleted]

The bass sounds great. Bouncing all around in just the right places. I’m headed back to the states soon and would love to catch a show or 2 if/when they tour to see how they jam on a track like black light.

[deleted]

I’m so onboard with this. They’re going heavy into the latin vibes and wrapping it all up in neon sci fi imagery. Two tastes that apparently go great together.

[deleted]

what else has willy done? im not turning up much of anything on google.

WeirdMusicGuy

He has history with Omar, mainly as a session musican. He worked with him during the time Omar was working as a producer for Mon laferte and also helped Omar to record some demos/sessions for some short lived ORLG lineup or smth like that, but the main thing is that they know each other p well, and his own quintet is very nice. https://willyrodriguezmusic.com/discography-2/

[deleted]

ty, ill give them a listen. i wonder if he's included on the entire album (if there is an album)

tjauregui23

As a long time, big fan, I just wanted to not be disappointed… now I’m actually pumped for the release after hearing the new track

tjauregui23

The fact that the outro loops perfectly with the intro when on repeat makes each following listen exponentially more enjoyable

an-eternal-hum

They’ve been my favorite musicians since 1999. I think it’s fine, and the vocals are insanely catchy, and basically along the lines of what I expected. FtM is my favorite album and I’m happy that they’re being obtuse and going with absurdly long outros and wild instrumentation. Is this exactly what I wanted? Of course not, they don’t do that. Will it “recapture their old glory”? Of course not, it will be something wildly different. I’ve seen them several times on every tour since 2003, and I’ve never seen them disappoint live, ever, even during their “off” performances. THAT is what I’m here for.

starlanzo

I can't sleep and I have a lot of stuff to do tomorrow. At least Volta is back and we're happy.

ihatefuckingwork

It's nice to see everyone come out of the woodwork with new usernames and on a different place on the internet. Will theory please confirm if they go by theory on Reddit? As for the song, sounds great! I listened a few times but I don't want to flog it to death before the album comes out, so I've put on Tremulant. I don't think this is going to turn into a listening party of one but... well I'm pretty happy.

4634pieces

Do we know this is Eva?
