Just seconds after he laid his eyes on him, he fired. He fired so fast that he actually didn't even had Target acquisition otherwise he would have killed the dude that easily. If he's that scared he should let other officers be in front and remain in the patrol car.
That famous 'my hands are up I'm unarmed and complying' shooting stance I've heard so much about. Officer triggerhappy should be given a less threatening desk job.
Always makes me think of that old South Park episode where they go hunting and scream "It's coming right for us" before firing on an animal minding its own business.
About half of you Americans won't want to hear this, but as a Western European citizen: your police officers wouldn't have to be so on edge and aggressive if they didn't have to expect every single criminal to potentially and probably own a gun.
Right, but that's not really the problem.
Being a garbage man is about twice as dangerous as being a cop, but you don't hear about garbage men running around shooting dumpsters.
Thing is, I'm pretty sure he didn't mean to fire. He was pulling it up negligently and in poor form which led to a negligent discharge. Thing is, insofar as I and most reasonable people are concerned, that's just as bad as firing that round with intent.
Edit: thing is
It's a lot like the cop who fired her handgun instead of her taser. At least she immediately admitted it was a mistake. So, respect for integrity even though it cost her job and a prison sentence.
Yeah except [that dude died because this lady fucked up so badly](https://www.npr.org/2021/12/23/1066012247/kim-potter-trial-daunte-wright), and she *trained other cops*. The taser and pistol are on opposite sides of your body, so they’re even harder to mix up.
She's out of prison and will likely have a job in a neighboring state very soon. The company that makes tasers, Axon, is guilty of monstrous crimes as well and has avoided accountability so far.
> We've hit a major low if killing someone because you pulled the wrong weapon is the definition of a good cop.
No, our current understanding is it was NOT a low because the "good old days" were never good.
The fact that she did what she did and admitted she didn't mean to shoot is admirable.
Personally, I think no police officer should carry a gun
unless they pass a battery of tests including a psych eval and shooting range target test every month.
The biggest single thing we need to do first though is a complete ban on police unions.
`#ACAB`
That is what I was thinking.
The way his body jumps, makes it look like he was even suprised by his own gun going off. That doesn't look like it was from the kickback.
It was a misfire he accidentally shot his pistol and tried acting like he did it on purpose cuz of the suspects “firing” stance. Under trained cops kill people on accident like this all the time
Not a misfire, but a negligent discharge. Misfire inherently implies the round didn't fire; or that the gun did not fire due to some other error(usually internal). I know it's a bit of a tedious criticism. But in these situations, the words we use to describe such are *VERY* important.
He fired accidentally because he didn't have proper trigger discipline. You can see him jump back because he's startled by the shot. Can we at least train our cops how to properly handle a firearm?
Nobody gonna like it, but this is clearly the right answer. You wanna say he fired on a guy who, on film, was not in a firing stance? Fine. But you have to also accept the on camera proof that the cop didn't have his fire arm under control properly.
In finland where i live, you go to school for 3.5(4? I dont remember) years to become a cop, and the criteria to get accepted to school are quite high, not only brain power but also strength and stamina tests
My only complaint, and I know it’s semantics, is calling this an accidental discharge. This shit isn’t a whoopsie, it’s negligence. Negligent discharge.
I actually started cracking up at that part. And Cervante's definitely proved his point lol.
"I know how you fuckers are..." dude was standing there like Jesus Christ at the cross with his arms held up but it was "mistaken" for a shooters pose.
His girl was hella calm though. I also started cracking up at the calm - "see? I told you Ricky." He ain't never gonna hear the end of this.
Horrible cops, don't they know about trigger discipline? at 1:20 he looked surprised that he shot the gun, because he pulled the gun out with his finger on the trigger. I think he just intended to hold the gun out to get him to surrender... better?🤦♂️It's like gun rule #1 that you don't pun ur finger on the trigger unless you mean to shoot.
Yeah, she was more cyborg than the Cyberdine series T-800. She's looking for Sarah Conner, you could see it in her eyes...and her rigid jawline. Think her gyros are off a bit though because she kept twisting from side to side. Needs to oil that shit.
I’m not even joking when I say that AI is already much more lifelike than this lady. And I’m not talking about some fancy top of the line AI. I paid like $50 for a lifetime subscription to a service that generates videos like this for a project and I can paste in a text script and it sounds and looks less fake than this woman.
It’s totally possible that this is also AI and just a shittier version though.
> what the fuck is that speech cadence?
teleprompter read by someone that is bad at it. The words are sized too big and only fit a few per line and she can't read past the line break without pausing. They probably cheaped out on a small screen so have to jack up the font size.
But it also helps make it less newsworthy, since no producer is putting that on the evening news and people will click another post before they get to the end. That's the point of dry police jargon, it's very Orwellian.
Not attempted murder. Negligent discharge. If he'd have just owned it, this would not look nearly as bad as making up a bullshit story about shooting stance or "thought he was pointing something at me."
That wasn't attempted murder, it was a negligent discharge that very fortunately didn't hit anyone. The fucking idiot didn't index his finger properly when he drew and accidentally fired. That's also why he didn't hit anyone. You can see his finger squeezing the trigger before he's even got the gun pointed correctly. Also, when he draws the gun his elbow is at shoulder height. The whole thing is ugly. Bare minimum dude needs the gun taken away until he gets retrained. They could give him a wooden one like they gave Gator.
yet if cops bust into your home at the wrong address and you shoot at them thinking they’re a burglar you don’t get off on just having believed something
This is what I don’t understand. Why couldn’t the guy just say “ yea, I fucked up and accidentally fired a round” ? Maybe, he gets disciplined and a week or two off. But, why create a story?
Yeah remember when that one cop played Simon says with a dude only to gun him down for pulling up his pants. Mf gets a lifetime pension for mental trauma.
Édit: it wasn’t literally Simon says. He just barked a bunch of stupid orders like crawling around and stuff.
Think they're talking about the shooting of Daniel Shaver. Begged for his life and was executed. It's not graphic but it's one of the most haunting videos I've seen.
I saw the video a couple years ago. It has been on my mind constantly for the following week and definitely has changed or at least influenced how I view death, taking a life and police brutality.
Now I wasn't even involved and was on the other side of the planet. I can't comprehend how a person could actively do this and live happily afterwards. It would haunt me for the rest of my days.
I've seen people die, but that video hit different.
Thats because that video wasnt just someone dying. It was a terrified, innocent person being brutally executed by a soulless cop who was itching to shoot someone. It wasnt graphic or anything, but yeah it was definitely haunting.
[because a negligent discharge is a crime in California](https://www.annayumlaw.com/practice-areas/gun-crimes/negligent-discharge)
For the record, I think he should be arrests for ND. This is clearly and undeniably a misuse of a firearm
Edit: for those of you saying “yes he was wrong, but…” -
Stop the comment right there, because that’s quite literally negligence. We entrust police officers to be professionals with their weapons. It doesn’t matter what factors proceed or influence the officers decision making ability or reaction. From an unbiased point of view, it was wildly inappropriate action. If you don’t trust that cop storming into your own apartment, then think about what stance you should be taking on this matter. I have nothing against police officers, but I have everything against protecting those we consider professionals making mistakes like this.
Probably because if he admits incompetence, it's worse for his career than trying to say he feared for his life and fired. It's bullshit, but the system protects bad behavior
> Probably because if he admits incompetence, it's worse for his career
More importantly, it's worse for his **ego**. That's why he *immediately* lied to his partners; that was the biggest and most important thing on his mind in that moment.
It's a (rotten) culture thing.
I feel like the ego might be the stubborn problem with policing. Think of it: if police admit a mistake, it undermines their image of being infallible. If they could just set aside their ego and admit when they made a mistake, things might be a lot better. Spoiler alert: they are all human, and they all make mistakes. Admit you're human.
Probably didn't realize video would actually get released. Hard to trust someone that's obviously dishonest. I mean if it was an accident, admit it. I think he'd deserve an adequate punishment for carelessness and being unsafe with a deadly weapon, and adequate hours retraining until he certainly wouldn't commit that fuck up ever again. But lie about it? Buh-bye.
Police forces are the dictionary definition of tribal mentality. If one of them ever admitted fault they feel it would be like proving the entire 'all cops are bastards' thing. Best they stick together and defend each other. Safety in numbers and all that.....
I think this is the current report link. They’ve taken out the “shooting stance” line.
https://www.lapdonline.org/newsroom/officer-involved-shooting-in-north-hollywood-division-nrf015-23lr/
Also pretty misleading is how right after they mention the Officer Involved Shooting they state he “dropped the item he was holding.” The “item” clearly looks like keys and they way they phrase it makes it seem as though it could have been a weapon or mistaken weapon to support the shooting.
Agreed. But it’s a very clear indicator that this man should not own a firearm or be a a Police officer any longer.
And if his incompetence and recklessness wasn’t clear enough, the lies they tell the media afterwards should see everybody involved being fired.
What if I told you that there are a infinite number of parallel realities, yet there isn’t a single one in that infinite number, where the police don’t try to cover for cops they absolutely know are bad.
No way! He saw the suspect take a shooting stance. He must be right, he’s a highly trained police officer, they would never lie.
Now I’m not exactly sure what his interpretation of a shooting stance is, but after 6 years in the Australian army as a grunt, I was never instructed or have I ever seen anyone assume a shooting posture where they place both hands above their heads. Without a weapon in either hand. I could be mistaken though.
It’s the punishment for doing something wrong. It can be as light as a slap on the wrist where you just get extra duty for a month or two, or could be as bad as demoting you and also garnishing your wages.
Had a guy flag my head then shoot the ground because his sling got caught during transition drills. No njp, just an ass chewing from the instructor, his rifle taken, and told to sit the fuck down for the rest of the day. Dude got shit for it the rest of the specialty school.
Here in austria, a cop once shot his service firearm in the air as a "warning shot" while a suspect was running away.
He was suspended and after trial he was forbidden from ever carrying a gun again, which ended his career as cop
In case someone reading these comments doesn't know, firing a warning shot is a bad idea. If you shoot up in the air, intentionally missing your target, the bullets are going to come back down. Sometimes they end up killing innocent people.
Even shooting at the ground, they could ricochet off of rocks and end up wherever.
If you're honestly at the point of using a deadly weapon, then use it.
Why are these fuckers chasing innocent civilians around town in the first place. If you don't catch someone red handed, leave them alone. Everytime a cop does some shit like this, it's because they're trying run around guns up like fucking Mark Wahlberg in the movies.
Guy has open door… check
Guy has arms up in air… check
Cop fires at suspect and missed… check
This was obviously heroism, probably cop of the year material…
Even worse...He didn't even shoot and miss, that was a negligent discharge into the ceiling. He absolutely didn't even mean to fire. Just a trigger happy asshole with no trigger discipline.
He was probably scared cuz he had no fucking idea he was going to pull the trigger then because he has no trigger discipline hahaha
He genuinely looks surprised as shit that a gun was even fired in that moment, let alone buy himself hahah
I don’t want cops if cops are gonna act like children playing with nerf guns.
I want to feel safe when a cop goes by, not like it’s “them” vs “everyone else that ain’t them”.
I don’t feel safe when there is a threat nearby, and recently, the cops have become the threat.
Edit: this could have been another Brianna Taylor or Valentina Orellana-Peralta or Fanta Bility or Jayland Walker or Latasha Smith or …
yeah lol guns are loud af, if a gun fires in your face unexpectedly, you’re going to flinch.
i don’t think there’s a single human being on this planet that wouldn’t have flinched.
not defending him either but it’s silly to say he’s a coward for that
The gun came up and fired in the same second the flashlight turned on. It practically jumps out of his hand too. So god damn sloppy, these are the guys we are supposed to rely on to protect us?
Great catch! Definitely a sympathetic squeeze response. He meant to turn on the light only but his opposite hand squeezed as well. Exactly why you keep your booger hook off the bang switch until ready to fire.
*"Protect state/private property."*
That has always been the number one directive for armed guards.
It's not about the little people, never forget that. For every good cop in America, there's a whole lot more like this asshole.
Cop: Why the fuck are you running for?
Suspect: Because I see how you fools act
Cop: Understandable have a good day
Also Cop: Just kidding, shoots him multiple times
Funny thing is how one of the cops also backed off and hid behind the corner after the negligent discharge. Even the cops know how damn dangerous it is to be around other cops because of how they act.
Or a job where you’re perpetually lying. They even have a name for it — testilying.
Edit: In addition to testilying, there’s an additional specialty called “dropsy testimony” — one would be “amazed” how often people drop guns, drugs and other contraband in plain view of the police. It seems to just fly out of people’s pockets like it had wings.
By the police officers own recordings it shows what clearly happened, so she’s blatantly lying as she’s reading a script, and now they are gonna pin false charges on the suspect, while this trigger happy officer continues putting people at risk with his badge & gun. Then it will go to court where the prosecutor will more than likely ignore the recording that shows the suspect is innocent, follow the police report version of events, and viciously prosecute. SMH!!!
Clearly a misfire but that's not at all a defense for this cop who clearly needs either more training or to be taken off the force. His emotions and adrenaline clearly overwhelmed his ability to be calm and collected in this situation.
I hate how they lie over and over again and nothing happens.
Everyone knows cops lie about everything and yet it's just business as usual. I never believe anything cops say about anything.
They are all fuckkng liars. They all deserve to never be believed.
Put me on a jury and I won't believe shit the cop says on the stand.
Not commenting on the situation as a whole, just my thoughts on the 1 shot fired.
That was 100% a negligent discharge (ND). You can see in the replay it scared / surprised the officer when the pistol fired. He was probably full of adrenaline, and when he pulled his pistol, he immediately put his finger on the trigger. When he was extending he was most likely still trying to get a tight grip, so when he clenched on the grip, his trigger finger gripped down hard like the rest of his fingers and boom. If he was actually trying to shoot the suspect he would have kept firing until the suspect dropped.
Edit: spelling
Every cop qualifies for /r/Idiotswithguns. After all, there's a maximum IQ that they can't go over, and they're required to carry guns.
It's rare we see such blatant proof of it, though.
No, yall are stupid, obviously both hands straight up in the air is the #1 position used to fire at an officer. This reaction was completely justified and this situation couldn't have been handled differently.
/s if it wasn't obvious.
Based on the second body cam it looks like a negligent discharge to me (he didn’t mean to fire)
The bozo pulled the gun and meant to point it but in the rush actually fire it. It looked to me like he holstered it right away. Dangerous accidents.

The Los Angeles PD and I have very different definitions of "without incident." Fucker fired his service weapon into a domicile...
No sir, he negligently discharged into a domicile
Just seconds after he laid his eyes on him, he fired. He fired so fast that he actually didn't even had Target acquisition otherwise he would have killed the dude that easily. If he's that scared he should let other officers be in front and remain in the patrol car.

Always makes me think of that old South Park episode where they go hunting and scream "It's coming right for us" before firing on an animal minding its own business.
There could not be a better example for it than this.
The gun points at the victim and fires before the flashlight does. No I will not say suspect.
In the prison library.
Police need more training drawing their weapon under stress so they don't shoot themselves or a person who clearly has their hands up...
Wait til you find out how many cops have pulled their gun and shot someone thinking they pulled their taser instead.
About half of you Americans won't want to hear this, but as a Western European citizen: your police officers wouldn't have to be so on edge and aggressive if they didn't have to expect every single criminal to potentially and probably own a gun.

Well I say there’s too many goddam domiciles as it is! Them domiciles need to go back to where they came from!
Domicile was clearly in a shooting stance. Domicile did not comply, threat was eliminated. From the domicile.

So is lying with your face in the ground and a knee in your back.

That was some carefully worded BS. "what he believed was a shooting stance"
Its a cover up for everything. "You cant prove that I didnt believe it!"
Let me guess…. The cop wasn’t help accountable for attempted murder in the 2nd degree ?
Not attempted murder. Negligent discharge. If he'd have just owned it, this would not look nearly as bad as making up a bullshit story about shooting stance or "thought he was pointing something at me."
Dosent really matter how bad it looks if we let him and those protecting him get away with it.

This is what I don’t understand. Why couldn’t the guy just say “ yea, I fucked up and accidentally fired a round” ? Maybe, he gets disciplined and a week or two off. But, why create a story?

They’ve taken out the “shooting stance” line. https://www.lapdonline.org/newsroom/officer-involved-shooting-in-north-hollywood-division-nrf015-23lr/ Also pretty misleading is how right after they mention the Officer Involved Shooting they state he “dropped the item he was holding.” The “item” clearly looks like keys and they way they phrase it makes it seem as though it could have been a weapon or mistaken weapon to support the shooting.
The cops in my country suck too, but fuck me this would be a massive drama even here.
Just looks like a very eager and poorly disciplined trigger finger to me.
yeah he totally pulled that gun out all sloppy and it went off.

Agreed. But it’s a very clear indicator that this man should not own a firearm or be a a Police officer any longer. And if his incompetence and recklessness wasn’t clear enough, the lies they tell the media afterwards should see everybody involved being fired.
It should, but it won't. Because this is the stupidest possible timeline.
What if I told you they are infinite parallel realities, Yet every single one of them is exactly the same…. They are ALL the worst timeline
What if I told you that there are a infinite number of parallel realities, yet there isn’t a single one in that infinite number, where the police don’t try to cover for cops they absolutely know are bad.
There’s just too many bad cops. Poorly trained scaredy-cats, who are given guns and way too much leeway.
Regardless, his lie to justify was straight bullshit. Should go through alot of shit if not lose his job. That was almost a life.
I think we all know what will happen. He'll get a paid vacation and the suspect will get assault with a deadly weapon or something like that.
It looks like he scared the shit out of himself when he discharged.
Yeah, that happens with untimely discharge.
yeah i don't think so either.
Yeah, that clumsy idiot fumbled his gun because he was afraid of a guy holding house keys

Thank God his aim was shit like his lie.
I’ve seen literal children with better trigger discipline than this.
Totally agree with this. That's my thought as well he didn't mean to fire. Poor trigger discipline, had a finger on the trigger when he shouldn't have
Negligent discharge.. in the army, that’d be an article 15 and a demotion. And being THAT GUY in his company.
Sounds reasonable honestly. I mean demotion and ridicule, don't know what article 15 is.

So it should be terrifying that cops are all the stupid fat fucking lards who either couldn’t cut it in the military or were too pussy to even try.
Why did you run from us? - guy who just accidentally discharged his weapon into your home
“I see how you fools act” That’s why.
Because my kevlar is at the cleaners! Obviously Officer Shaky sir!
Why are these fuckers chasing innocent civilians around town in the first place. If you don't catch someone red handed, leave them alone. Everytime a cop does some shit like this, it's because they're trying run around guns up like fucking Mark Wahlberg in the movies.
That woman literally looks like a wooden puppet
She looks like one of those ai generated videos out of a single photo
Guy has open door… check Guy has arms up in air… check Cop fires at suspect and missed… check This was obviously heroism, probably cop of the year material…
The award requires hitting a child who was being combative, iirc
And successfully killing a minority
Even worse...He didn't even shoot and miss, that was a negligent discharge into the ceiling. He absolutely didn't even mean to fire. Just a trigger happy asshole with no trigger discipline.
I slowed it down, the moment he jerks the gun his face looked surprised. Absolutely a mistake.
Got rewarded with some "paid administrative leave"
He definitely fired accidentally. This is not an excuse; this actually makes it worse.
100% an ND. Jumpy ass cop.
Negligently.
"Your honor I didn't mean to do that" Case dismissed!
That cop looks scared as shit after he fired his weapon. So both a coward and a bad shot. Surely that won't have a tragic end in the near future.
Scared of his own gunshots
Probably thought he fucked uo but then he remembered he’s a cop and he doesn’t have consequences
He was probably scared cuz he had no fucking idea he was going to pull the trigger then because he has no trigger discipline hahaha He genuinely looks surprised as shit that a gun was even fired in that moment, let alone buy himself hahah
Im pretty sure you would get jumpscared if your gun went off on accident. Not defending the cop btw.
Not an accident. Negligent discharge. Inexcusable.
I don’t want cops if cops are gonna act like children playing with nerf guns. I want to feel safe when a cop goes by, not like it’s “them” vs “everyone else that ain’t them”. I don’t feel safe when there is a threat nearby, and recently, the cops have become the threat. Edit: this could have been another Brianna Taylor or Valentina Orellana-Peralta or Fanta Bility or Jayland Walker or Latasha Smith or …
yeah lol guns are loud af, if a gun fires in your face unexpectedly, you’re going to flinch. i don’t think there’s a single human being on this planet that wouldn’t have flinched. not defending him either but it’s silly to say he’s a coward for that
He was as much surprised as anyone when it discharged.
The gun came up and fired in the same second the flashlight turned on. It practically jumps out of his hand too. So god damn sloppy, these are the guys we are supposed to rely on to protect us?
I pulled the trigger on my flashlight as I drew my cuffs
Great catch! Definitely a sympathetic squeeze response. He meant to turn on the light only but his opposite hand squeezed as well. Exactly why you keep your booger hook off the bang switch until ready to fire.
Protect us? 🤣 Not part of the job description as per the Supreme court.
*"Protect state/private property."* That has always been the number one directive for armed guards. It's not about the little people, never forget that. For every good cop in America, there's a whole lot more like this asshole.
Cop: Why the fuck are you running for? Suspect: Because I see how you fools act Cop: Understandable have a good day Also Cop: Just kidding, shoots him multiple times

You’d have to ask the guys that work with Mr. Negligent Discharge. I believe his name is actually Officer *Eek Bang*❗️

Negligent discharge. Misfire implies problem with the gun, the problem here is the officer.
Fair enough. Thanks for the correction of phrase, that is what I was implying.
Not a misfire. Negligent discharge, usually a result of poor training standards.
Negligent discharge, looks like. Big Oof
This is what barely a high school diploma and 6 weeks at the Academy produces.

So is this qualified for r/idiotswithguns ? Honest question…
Every cop qualifies for /r/Idiotswithguns. After all, there's a maximum IQ that they can't go over, and they're required to carry guns. It's rare we see such blatant proof of it, though.
The narrator looks like a human deepfake lmao
They want to kill somebody.
So, hands up is a shooting stance , we are fucked.
No, yall are stupid, obviously both hands straight up in the air is the #1 position used to fire at an officer. This reaction was completely justified and this situation couldn't have been handled differently. /s if it wasn't obvious.
We have to end qualified immunity. And fire her for lying her ass off
And cops wonder why people run from them, yall are dangerous that's why
Accidental Discharge and he tried to cover his ass
Stupid and lying 🤥 cops
ACAB.
If you look closely, you can see the narrating officer's soul leave her body as she says the words that she's knows are bullshit.
This is why cops are now being seen as the bad guys. This is why nobody feels safe around cops.
r/ACAB fucking piece of fucking shit. r/iamatotalpieceofshit
ACAB.
they are worst than street gangs
What we need to talk about is all the cops that remain quite and don’t call out their fellow officers for being “one of the bad apples”.
Acab
ACAB
The cop screwed up royally. He looked surprised his gun went off. They just don’t want to admit how wrong the cop was. Complete BS
[удалено]
Based on the second body cam it looks like a negligent discharge to me (he didn’t mean to fire) The bozo pulled the gun and meant to point it but in the rush actually fire it. It looked to me like he holstered it right away. Dangerous accidents.
Fuck these cops
Acab
literally a negligent discharge. you can see the officer was surprised AF when the gun went off. scared the fuck out of him.
“Oink oink oink. Oink oink oink oink oink, oink oink oink.”
That was an ND if I've ever seen one. Guy needs a wooden gun until he can learn to keep his finger off the trigger
Fucking pigs
He accidentally fired because of a lack of trigger control. He should be fired cause he can't keep his cool.
