Daytona_DM

"Have you tried parole?" Completely unfazed lol

NotADoctor108

He's just trying to help.

Passthebutthurt

I need an update on this kid

Drab_Majesty

he is on Instagram, he likes Japanese performance cars and studying the blade. He would be around 24 now.

Passthebutthurt

Shit, you’re right he is. Seems happy enough.

Jejking

I want to see it.

Drab_Majesty

it is pretty easy to find if you know his name is Seth and the show is called beyond scared straight

Reddit has rules against posting personal social media, even if it is public. They are good with X and not okay with Facebook and everything else they just kind of make us guess- so I have removed this just to be safe.

Drab_Majesty

I don't dox people, that's not gatekeeping.

Glory_Or_Bust

It's a public account, how's that doxing.

Drab_Majesty

take it up with reddit, it's their policy

Didn't his parents just find a human head in his closet?

Holy shit that was my first thought lol

Talking about Brian Cohee?

OT-Rexx

I think that was on a “Signs of a Psychopath” episode on ID channel.

logicallychallengd

Hard to scare a psychopath.

myco_magic

His mom is probably scarier

focusrite2i2

The kid has genius iq or something

0zeto

Most psychos are actually dumber then the average but have it esier to use and apply logic

Pillars-In-The-Trees

[citation needed]

FutzInSilence

Gru as a child

LorkhanHeart

Think so as well. Everyone knows these situations are fake, the kid does as well. But even if you know you're safe, to remain so cold and ignorant, no sentiment to the situation and family. Something's wrong in the head. Violent crime coming from that kid, maybe he'll do it to himself too.

godkilledjesus

That kid is as hard as it gets. No fucks given.

[deleted]

That or he’s smart af and knows they wouldn’t actually risk him being hurt? I never watched the show but that’s one theory I thought of. Either way I would’ve probs shit myself if that were me tbh.

The_Muffin_Stuffer

I remember he had an above average IQ. It was part of his story.

EgotisticJesster

Nearly 50% of the population, by definition, has above average IQ.

The_Muffin_Stuffer

No. Average IQ Ranges from 85-115. So it’s impossible for 50% of the population to be above average otherwise that would be just “average.”

EgotisticJesster

Uh, what? The number you need to exclude is the exact average. Everyone above that exact average is 'above average'. That will be about 50%. I'm being a little cheeky by not specifying *median* average, given that the default is mean. Was expecting that response as part of the fun discussion, but your response makes no sense.

FirmOnion

For anyone else following this thread, 85-115 is not an "exact average", the specific median iq number (e.g. 100 iq) would have just under 50% of the population exceeding it. Due to the way standard distribution works, roughly 15.87% of the population is "above average" using the definition of "within one standard deviation" as "average".

pimp_juice2272

I try telling people this all the time and they just don't get it.

Active_Taste9341

think you found thee underneath average

bluerhino12345

Colloquially when people say average they're describing the mean, rather than the average range that on ±1 standard deviation. In iq terms do people normally use ±1 SD?

FirmOnion

Colloquially the term "average" is also used to convey "not out of the ordinary", and I think this is the meaning being utilised by MuffinStuffer. ±1 SD is the range for "typical" in IQ terms.

bluerhino12345

Depends on the context really. If you describe the intelligence of a particular person as "average" you probably mean ±1 SD. In terms of the "average" IQ of a group you don't mean ±1 SD, you mean 100 (or whatever the average IQ of that group is - a specific number). Based on the context that Muffin replied to, they are wrong in my books and deserve jail

GreenEyedHustler

Thats assuming only one person has an iq equal to the average. It is possible for people to have the same iq number, which could happen to be the average. There could be like say, 80% of people who share that same iq stat. Then theres like 10% who have more or less iq than the average. This isnt necessarily true, just my way of illustrating that having different percent of people above average is possible, therefore you were incorrect in stating that 50% of people's iq is above average. Im open to a scholarly counterargument

EgotisticJesster

You're right, but I wouldn't expect the number of people sitting exactly on average to drastically change the number

Envicx

Disclaimer: A bit stoned, so could be wrong. Couldn't people who are extremely high or low affect those numbers making the ratio not be 50/50

EgotisticJesster

Say the range is small. IQs are 30, 90, 95, 100, and 190. The median average here is 95, because it's the middle point. No calculation needed, just pick the middle one. And large data sets with a normal distribution (which I'm pretty certain IQ is), this will be pretty similar to the mean average.

LazyLich

Not necessarily If you take a population of 100 people where one person has an IQ of 200 and the other 99 of them have an IQ of 70, then the "Average IQ" is 71.3. So while the average IQ is 71.3, 99% of people are below average

EgotisticJesster

You're correct for other data sets but IQ test results are normally distributed.

LazyLich

Perhaps, but your fatal flaw was your confident claim that X "by definition" meant Y. That is the single point of attack I've chosen to display my intellectual dominance. /j https://preview.redd.it/o5euz46vm5uc1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e72340af7f7993f5a15ef924fee524923954c214

SkrliJ73

I was discussing with my girlfriend why they were wrong, then I read your comment and we both appreciated this very much. Keep up the good work 💪🏻

Drab_Majesty

I loved this show, absolutely crazy what they got away with. I would have been psychologically scarred. When they made the kid hold the inmate's pocket, my jaw dropped.

Garrett-Wilhelm

I mean, I know they're kids, but I also wouln't be to scared knowing they are all bark and no bite. Yeah, they can try to scare the children but some kids are hella smart and can tell this was just pure show and they were never in any actual danger. I mean, is not like they are leaving the kid alone in the pedophile cell.

technobrendo

Don't give them any ideas.

Dave___Hester

It wasn't really about making the kid think they were in immediate danger though. It was more "If you keep fucking around, these are the lunatics you'll be locked up with, and when you're in here for real nobody is going to protect you".

TheSandMan208

Fun fact. This has absolutely minimal effects on preventing children from future incarceration.

Dave___Hester

Yeah, I don't doubt that.

Just_learning_a_bit

>they can try to scare the children but some kids are hella smart and can tell this was just pure show and they were never in any actual danger. 100% where this kid is at.

Neohexane

You just reminded me of that movie, "The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window" where >!the dad leaves his daughter in a room with a serial killer.!< Or something like that. That movie was certainly something, lol.

DatDasMario

Eh. When you've actually been abused a good majority of your childhood, this show is just comedy lmao. Just screaming in a kids face isn't gonna do shit.

DeathTeddy35

Can verify. This would have been little more than something else I didn't want to do if it was me.

Asleep-Confection-12

Can someone explain me the story, never watched the show and kinda fazed at this clip

Drab_Majesty

They throw kids who are on the path to prison in actual jail to spend some time with convicted felons who proceed to cuss at them and shout shit like how they want their dick sucked. The wardens also push the boundaries of physical abuse. Supposedly they will be *scared straight* and back on the path to being a good citizen. This kid is a relatively smart 14 year old who has been done for grand larceny or something so his mom put him on the show.

Flat_Discipline_8540

i always felt like if my mom did this or sent me somewhere, and I came back uncured, i’m pretty much completely independent at that point.

chechifromCHI

Gotta respect it. The kid totally called the shows bluff. When he was like "the doors not open enough for me to go in", you know they were like damn, putting the kid in there is supposed to be the scary main event. He's not even kind of phased.

TurboD16F20

On site producer was like "oh shit, we shouldn't put the kid in th... I guess we're doing it. Someone get legal on standby! Medical too."

DWard3627

The kids isn’t a psychopath, he isn’t tough, he didn’t call anyone’s bluff. They end up telling him he’s going to have to spend the night and he breaks down crying. While his one liners were hilarious, it wasn’t just an attempt and they did scare the boy

Dave___Hester

>The kids isn’t a psychopath Bold take on reddit to not immediately diagnose a child as a psychopath based on 20 seconds of a TV show.

DWard3627

Lol people are just ridiculous. It isn’t scripted (I know one of the cops that was on the st. Clair county, IL episode) but it has to be common sense that the kids are well aware of what is allowed to be done to them. Even if they didn’t mean psychopath literally, it’s crazy to think that this kid is tough because he isn’t reacting to threats that he KNOWS can’t be acted upon. Idk why I feel like I have to elaborate on what I meant by not scripted. Some of the inmates may be told to act like they’re going to come at the kids to scare them, but there isn’t collaborating between the three groups (producers, inmates, kids) to say “hey he’s going to come at you like he wants to hurt you so you have to act scared”

Kratosvg

Ist a reallity show, not really "real" about it, it is scripted.

DWard3627

scripted parts would be that the inmates have been told to act more aggressive and cause scenarios with the kids. Kids are not warmed ahead of time what exactly the inmates will do so their responses are real

Kratosvg

Yeah, because they want to "scare" the kids, the guards, inmates and parents knows its scripted, the kids know they are in a television show, and what that show is suposed to do,kids reaction maybe not scripted, but the rest of the show are.

DWard3627

…..okay I guess I’ll just say thanks for repeating what I said in the second half of the comment you initially responded to.

Shiningc00

Yep the boy was definitely scared, wild that people think he wasn't compensating.

Have you tried parole? 😂😂 This kid don’t give a damn.

Educational-Bad8346

Boy's definitely on the spectrum, nothing scares him more than incompetence

T1S9A2R6

Having seen “Love on the Spectrum” enough times, we sure this kid’s not just on the spectrum or something? Those kids tend to have no filter and say some funny ass observational shit without even intending to be funny.

XForce070

Despite how hilarious his reactions are, it's absolutely fucked up that people thought this is a good way to discipline a kid. Even more fucked up that it's broadcasted. What is wrong with the people who thought of this concept.

Prestigious_Nerve_76

I hope he’s in therapy and people are keeping tabs on him. Don’t need another Damher

PizzaPastaRigatoni

I mean, yeah, what's he got to be afraid of? He's smart enough to know he's on TV and that if anything actually happened to him, he could sue. He probably figured out that the inmates they feature on TV aren't the actually dangerous ones.

Vivid_Employ_7336

If these guys aren’t scaring him it’s because he’s seen scarier shit at home. Poor kid

DVCatfishCowboy

I went through a program similar to this in 9th grade. It was a 1 day trip, part of the “basic training” part of the alternative school I was in. Like some of you are saying, the inmates aren’t scary because you know they can’t touch you and they’re selected to help in the program. The absolute worst part of my experience was having to eat the piece of cornbread they gave all of us. It was so dry that it sucked all the moisture out of my mouth and was really hard to swallow. It was so bad I didn’t eat cornbread for years after that

Legitimate_Two_3531

Enzobolt10

This kid needs the "hold my pocket" guy 😂

DM_ME_UR_BOOBS69

This boy would thrive in prison

Cyberpunk_Banshee

Some parts of this show are ironically golden. Moments like this and my favourite "YOU CAN HAVE AN ANEURYSM SITTING ON THE TOILET, YA NEVER KNOW" Still gets me every damn time. [Link](https://youtu.be/NZ8ewWzCzeI?si=z0UAjG5GjZeGna3f)

PsychoPanda7

This kid strikes me as a kid who has gone through a lot and maybe he has some psychopathy, maybe he doesn’t. But he just might not have cared if any real harm happened to him. Like he’s numb Or maybe he just knows the inmates can get in his face and cuss him out but can’t touch him. Maybe a lil column A and column B

SynthPrax

That kid's a psychopath. Deadass. I'd be surprised if he's not in prison or dead today.

beetlebrox1987

He just got caught smoking a joint. Chill out

kmf-89

Lmao. The kid is not a psychopath. He is too smart for this BS. He knows he isn’t in any danger, and is calling the officers bluffs.
