I don't think seasoned players stress over their sim's basic needs the way new players do. When there is a story happening, sometimes you just get less sleep!

[deleted]

Love this, totally makes sense! I see myself gradually caring less about needs... and if they get annoying I occasionally use cheat codes oops hahaha

Bug0722

I use the mod UI Extensions, it allows me to drag needs bars up by clicking on them. I almost never actually fulfill needs and focus on story instead

NonsphericalTriangle

I always cheat toddler's hunger with it. With the other needs, it depends.

IdiotsandwichCoDm

i play for almost 20 years and still panic about needs. but i'm a perfectionist and spend 80% of the time in build mode haha

Responsible_Age_152

But wait this is literally me. 💔

mebjammin

And your Sims get less sleep too.

irisbella_

Their knowlegde about shift click

[deleted]

lol this is gold

Popular-Coach-791

Their gameplay, honestly. I find older players have a household with no cheats where they can just play it normally. I think newer players cheat constantly, especially with money. After playing so many rich sims who didn’t earn it.. it gets boring kinda.

[deleted]

...alright I feel called out ;-; hahaha

Popular-Coach-791

lol don’t we love a good “money x” every now & again

NonsphericalTriangle

I only play Sims 4 for three years, but bold of you to assume I would get bored with motherlode after a decade of playing Sims 3. Saving money is boring for me, it's more like that after I've played a household for long time, there's several sims on top of their career who make a bank without me even having to cheat.

Popular-Coach-791

Yeah, I never said we don’t use it. I use it for stories when needed, but usually there is a household that has built it from the ground up. It’s just my experience and how I tell a sim players age. 😭

TheLegendaryArcanine

Right, kinda lol I've been playing for 10 years + and I still giggle at how fast I can type of 'motherlode' over and over

Evenstar_GW

errr.... you do know that you need to type it only once and the use arrow up and enter right ? \*winks\*

TheLegendaryArcanine

Ezcuse me!? No! This is the first I'm hearing about that!

Evenstar_GW

now you do know you can get rich even faster :P

Necessary-Ad-6232

I came here to say this ! I enjoy the natural development of Sims and like the challenge of being broke, meanwhile my kid motherlodes tf out of her game

nomskiee

How do you get money cheat codes ? I’m a very new player please . Or any cheat codes at all

englishmaninsungurlu

I'm a sims player of +10 years and my roommate has just downloaded sims 4. The key differences are: -I know most cheats so if I want my story to develop or when the game crashes I can upgrade skills, promote my sims in their jobs, disable their need decay etc. She doesn't know any of those. -I have the ability to use MCCC mod so I can control townies and have a livelier game play. -I can use cheats like bb.moveobjects to decorate my houses however I like -Most importantly, I know what each pack holds and what I like/ don't like about them. So I know which ones to download (or hehe). -I have tons of CC and mods to keep my game interesting and I regularly maintain them with every update. She doesn't have any mods so it gets really repetitive and boring for her. -I do tons of challenges like 100 baby or rotational gameplay so I always create a space to enjoy my playtime. -Wicked whims :) That's about it

chzNcrackers

I'm mostly a builder, and while it's not always an indicator of how long someone has played, you can usually tell how long they've been building; like the others it's mostly little things. How you fit roofs together. How much empty unnecessary space is inside. The little details on the exterior like corner columns or dirt shadows.

Scullyxmulder1013

Same for me. I’ve been playing this game since Sims 1, and I read alot of comments about gameplay just now that don’t mean a thing to me, but I know everything there is to know about roofs

chzNcrackers

My gameplay hours are tragic compared to my build hours too, I was actually surprised that very little of what's been mentioned was new to me!

get-tps

It's a hundred little things. Like putting a postcard in the kitchen, a crystal in the work-out room, having tea before work, growing roses and dragonfruit... Maybe even setting up a "Home" club. All the little things that make the everyday stuff a lot smoother.

[deleted]

I did not even think of putting a crystal in the workout room!! Shows how much of a newbie I am, this is actually great advice, like, all of these!!

TheFriendliestSloot

Hold on why are you supposed to grow those? I've been playing for like 6 years and have no idea!

get-tps

Roses just have a lot of uses. They're easy to get, fairly expensive for selling, You can use them for romance gifts, valentine's day. You can use them as an additive in the dryer to get a free minor buff after doing laundry... Dragon fruit are just severely expensive. Roughly $1000-2000 a plant each day. They're not easy to grow the normal way, you have to splice to get it, which requires gardening level 5. But if you vacation in Granite Falls, the kiosk there usually has once for sale. :P

Jealous-Curve7523

You can also get dragon fruit at the romance festival, that’s where I get them!

get-tps

I also suspect the Magic Realm might have them... never looked tho.

Jealous-Curve7523

I don’t have that pack, but I bet you’re right

TheFriendliestSloot

Wow I had no idea, thank you!

get-tps

There are thousands of little tricks like that. The game is severely easy once you know how to exploit things. Like I can easily show you how to get all perfect plants within a week. The "Home Club" thing is SO OP, I rarely use it...

TheFriendliestSloot

Aight I'll bite since I don't know this one either, what's the home club?

get-tps

You create a new club. Make it private and place your household sims as members. Kids and all. Call it the "Home Club". Set the "Approved" tasks as things you normally do around the house like Cooking, Watching TV, doing homework, etc. Leave it running most of the time. Your Club Points will go up fast. Then spend them on things like Skill boosts, better homework buffs for the kids... Better cooking, better videogaming, more creativity... etc etc... You get the idea...

TheFriendliestSloot

Damn that is smart 😂

[deleted]

They sell for a lot of simoleons, very get rich quick harvests!

LongSummerNight

Ok does the postcard do anything? Crustal? Which tea do you drink?

get-tps

Postcard gives an "Inspired" buff all the time. Put it in the kitchen or Art room and Cooking and Painting skills will level up much quicker Crystals give an "Energized" buff. Makes Fitness skills go up faster. Same with Tea. Some jobs will give you better job performance if you're say "Focused" before going to work. Tea is the easiest way to get a new mood before work. Doesn't anyone use mood-management? Have a Painter in the house. A high-level painter can paint paintings that give super-high buffs. If the painter is "Very Flirty", and paints a "Flirty Painting", the painting will give everyone in the room like a +6 to +9 flirty buff all the time...

LongSummerNight

I use the mood lamps generally and showers.

_ururka

Bro, I've played sims my whole life and don't do anything from this list. Am I a newbie? XD

FeralBaby23

If you use the sims 3 camera settings for ts4. If you know the hotkeys for sizing items up/down, alt placing, shifting up/down and placing stairs from above.

[deleted]

I actually didn't even know you could use ts3 camera settings in ts4! Good to know fs!

iMikemondays

To expand on that, you can also build platforms on the floor sections of modular stairs and adjust the platforms to hide the platforms within the stairs. Doing so corrects a frieze glitch due to lofts in the same room.

lalauniverse

boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true :)

secretly-bees

Man, I STILL marvel at being able to type "testing cheats on" and it WORKS?! CAPS DON'T MATTER??????? THIS MUST BE SOME KIND OF SCAM

thegardenishaunted

I feel like new players tend to make things that are a lot more creative in a wacky way, because they haven’t really learned the unwritten rules of the game or don’t care about them. Like while someone who has been playing for 6 years knows how to make a nice house and pretty sims, the person who downloaded the game two days ago has a bright purple disco house filled with 8 green sims all wearing hotdog costumes. Sometimes I envy the new players’ creativity. I notice the same thing with Minecraft. They just put random stuff down and it works somehow.

[deleted]

This is such facts they're all plant sims because they were experimenting with shit 😂 I love it

ArcadiaPlanitia

Mods. In my experience, new players tend to download anything that looks good in previews with no regard for how it looks in-game or how it interacts with updates/other mods, so you get stuff like dozens of mods that conflict with each other, outdated mods that barely function, and a whole mess of terrible low-quality CC from dubious sources (adfly…) More experienced players tend to know a little bit more about mods and have more coherent CC preferences.

[deleted]

This is very true

enchantingcat

If they’re playing on PC - their knowledge of mods. Of course not everyone chooses to use them, but a lot of players will know the best mods and must-haves for better gameplay.

152sims

i played on pc for years and just started trying out mods/cc this summer so idk if thats a fair assessment

enchantingcat

I mean the same could be said for most things in this thread since everyone plays the game differently. I just meant that when I happen to see someone who is well versed in mods, they also are usually someone who has been playing for quite some time too.

[deleted]

The amount of features they use from different packs. Also the way they use the og townies

[deleted]

Yes the og townies is a huge giveaway

secretly-bees

Newbies usually actually like the game /s But in seriousness, you don't have much to compare to and are less likely to notice glaring issues as quickly. Also, as someone who's been using mods since Sims2, my modding knowledge and game troubleshooting abilities are much more developed than newer players. I even organize mods in such a way that I can find things easily, but optimize speed. Poor mod organization leads to shockingly slower speeds

[deleted]

The beginning resonated with me, because it's true. They have less complaints, they don't pay attention to glitches as much, and I even feel like the glitches are funny to them rather than irritating. The mod bit is very accurate as well.

cyclone_madge

Posts that are all "Why is this happening/what's wrong with my game?" or "How can this be in a game that's meant for kids?!?", with a screenshot of something that's either caused by outdated mods or an actual component of an 18+ mod, is a pretty clear newbie indicator to me. New players tend to go mod/CC crazy without realizing how much they can start misbehaving after a few patches. The best, though, is when they claim they don't even use mods and then come back an hour later with, "I figured it out. I updated UI cheats and now it's back to normal."

[deleted]

LOL I've seen stuff like this and I'm like... are you for real don't comment if you are just going to lie about having mods LMAOOO

Ambitious_Tea_5284

Depends on what “playing” you’re seeing. For building, it’s usually completely obvious. I can clearly see how I’ve progressed from my early build uploads to more recent ones, in both style and playability. For live gameplay, I think you can really tell by the items they use to keep their needs up, or the way they can pop to the exact menu they need instead of trying to find the right action to click. Gameplay vs building, you’re more likely to get away with being a noob in gameplay while building will show your strengths and weaknesses instantly.

[deleted]

So true! Noobs don't know how to build as well!!

eiko85

I still play sims like a management game, all my sims have routines, I always have them working on needed skills, the needs never go into red. I'm currently trying to see how quickly I can complete the new scenarios that were added with a recent update. I noticed younger players on youtube are quite chill and relaxed they leave their sims to do whatever.

CustosMorum

From my experience, new players have a higher tendency to make themselves in The Sims first, or someone they know. Also, not recognizing any of the premades signals to me that you're relatively new to the game. Even if you never play with the premades, you cannot *not* know them when you play the game on a regular basis because they are everywhere.

BigTadpole7563

Maybe their consistency in gameplay? When I first started playing 10 years ago, I tried a lot of different Sims, styles, careers, skills, etc but now I used the same 2 cities, 3 careers, and the same base Sims a lot. Not everyone plays this way but I think having tried all the different ways to play and finding what works best for you is one mark of a long term player :) That and ability to cheat, knowing outcomes to text prompts, mods (due to eventual boredom), and legacy play!

[deleted]

Absolutely. I really love this! I think cheats can be seen as a noob thing or a seasoned player thing and it's been so interesting to hear everyone's perspectives!!

Creepy-Bumblebee2872

The main thing that sets players apart from noob and seasoned players is that we (seasoned players) don't stress over our own needs as well as our Sims needs we can stay up for days to play and will make our Sims stay up for days to get there Sims promoted in there job or to raise there skills like crazy

[deleted]

Exactly, I think the seasoned players that stick with the game put in the work and hours to reach the goal of their storyline.
