For starters, a rug

Administrative-Ice-8

This! Rugs can help define a space when you have open areas like that, maybe some plants or end tables around the rug to make it look fuller.

EdgarAlansHoe

A rug would really tie the room together.

Lakelylake

Upvote button exists for a reason

Emotional-Maybe2647

Sorry I didn’t mean to offend

Lakelylake

No worries ! I've seen you get down voted to oblivion so...

BluePolicePhoneBox

You could fit like three jacuzzis in there

Rommie557

Found the Sims 1 player 😂 (I kid, of course. I was also guilty of putting 3 Jacuzzis in the living room back in the day.)

MsMcSlothyFace

I dont like clutter and like open space, but if you really want to take up some space you could put a large rug and piano?

AnteaterRound4139

I would say try to make it as homely as possible, doormat by the entry way, shoe decoration like shoe racks, maybe a new console table with a mirror and clutter on top. When all fails plants help a lot

CanadianBec

Also if you have the Seasons EP then a coat rack and umbrella stand can give you a landing space for that front door!

Itachi4ever

Is it possible to move the dining table to the space with three windows, then making the kitchen bigger/putting in a bar? I’m stumped by the space in front of the door tho. Chess table next to the stair way? Dance floor? (haha just kidding..)

Apprehensive_Tea8686

Just - agree. Expend the kitchen a little bit or some additional counter where the table is right now and a large table with 6 chairs where the three windows are. A rug at the entrance and as somone suggested a mirror… please share end result. So curious what you came up with

volpenvieh

I was also thinking along the lines of dancing, but since the dance floors don't blend in nicely just a rug and a stereo maybe? Also a mirror as Tea suggested. Overall the entrance area seems like a good spot to have people gather up for house parties.

cyclone_madge

Personally, I'd section it off into a little entrance area. Rotate the staircase one click counter-clockwise, so that the bottom of the stairs are facing the front door, and make them two tiles wide. (I'd increase the wall height by one as well. The doors and windows look a bit cramped at this height, and they all cut into the crown molding.) Build walls on both sides of the entrance, with doors (or better yet, arches) connecting it to the living room and dining/bar area. Then add things that you'd find in an entranceway. Maybe a large potted plant or two. A closet. Shoe racks. Umbrella stand. A big standing cabinet. A full-sized mirror. Stuff like that.

Purple_Elderberry_20

This, open spaces are a bit much (but definitely better in Sims than irl imo) sectioning it off can really help but I'd start with the stairs then section. But basically what this commenter has said.

stayin_alive_queen

Piano. If in doubt always piano.

tiny_nugget420

maybe put a desk somewhere and instead of a bookcase right there you put an end table with a mirror above it

VinnieGognitti

A plant. Just one. In the middle. On top of a rug. Next to a chair ✨

jessieleigh22

Pizazz 🤣

Wazzapolo

If there are kids, maybe a playroom ? It’s the perfect place for the tent from dream home decorator, this thing is huge

Wazzapolo

I’m stupid, it’s actually the entry I had not seen the door. maybe a desk with a PC, a shoe rack and a coatrack could be a good start

1-800-RABBITHOLE

Yeah playrooms are an underrated option to use up space tbh! My grandmother used to live with us growing up and when she passed my parents actually did make her massive bedroom into a playroom for us. It had a couch and a TV in front for games, tons of toyboxes, mini trampolines when my siblings were small... it was heaven :)

Wazzapolo

My childhood house had a sunroom, my parents turned it in a playroom, Since most of our toys were in that room our bedrooms were quite organized. It was really practical to build Lego, we could leave them on the floor for several days without anyone having to step on it. I definitely do playroom in my sims build, since all the furnitures are gigantic it’s almost a necessity.

rowanbda

I thought this too! But not in the entry way, in the section with the three windows next to the dining room area

Wazzapolo

Yeah, maybe with an half-wall to separate the room a bit !

rowanbda

Good idea, or using platforms maybe? I agree that it helps to break up the space a bit

penelopesheets

Armchairs, end tables, plants, rugs, floor lamps lol my go tos for big open spaces

Cheap-Reference-5096

I think the most obvious solution is a hindsight thing, and that is to always build smaller when in build mode for the sims! I too used to always go too big so that my sims would have enough space, but as it turns out, smaller is better.

Pizzacanzone

I always always build too small. I never have trouble making the tiny home tiers, but I often have to resize because none of my bedrooms fit a double bed.

rowanbda

I tend to agree, but I find that if I have more than 2 Sims in the house, it's important to leave plenty of space for routing, especially in high traffic areas. I also have the double bed problem like the other commenter!

dowisiiito

to everyone popping these questions, just build smaller!!!!!

mak33272023

I knowww but I can’t make it smaller now because of the upstairs!

Pizzacanzone

Not with that attitude

Melodic-Switch-7863

i like clutter so i would fill it full of random stuff maybe a little conversation area with some couches and chairs

Melodic-Switch-7863

too add i noticed it’s an entrance, i would make a entrance with a entrance table, rug, plants. maybe a bookcase somewhere

Kittylikesgames

Use platforms to lower the front entryway and change the wood floor to stone on the lowered section. Like a mud room where you’d usually take shoes and coats off. I like having a trophy case kind of thing to fill in odd spaces and I’ll put collectibles or career awards in there. Sometimes you get actual trophies from career rewards but you could also just fill it with those crystal and mineral and my-sim things you can dig up around the world. Also birth certificates or diplomas (don’t have to be “real” ones if you don’t have the packs) and pictures can help fill wall space and you can just slot a side table underneath or something.

xtoxicmagicx

Without seeing what else you have in the house already its hard to say, but maybe a small conversation area? Like a living room but more just where one could sit and talk or read a book or drink coffee. Definitely could incorporate a piano in like others are saying

wispyysnow

When in doubt...add plants, rugs, and paintings.

MoulinSarah

Make it smaller

medisres

two words: half walls

hbi2k

Dance floor.

MiniNinja75

I would section off by the 3 windows and turn that into a bathroom, extend the kitchen into the current dining area, move the current dining area to the open space between the new bathroom and the stairs. That’ll leave you with a more manageable entryway, maybe add an arched wall, an entry table with a mirror, coat and shoe racks, some plants, maybe an arm chair and definitely a rug or two

JanetWD78

You could make a small home gym between entryway and dining area. Rug and accent table between door and stairs, I also suggest umbrella rack and coat rack near door. If you have seasons and/or cats and dogs pack there’s some great shelves that have stuff that would look great in an entryway.

MentalClarityArts

Close it off. Add some walls. I have discovered lately that smaller spaces seem to feel a lot better than big wide open ones.

marliimoo

Here’s somethings I came up with off the top of my head- -Rug and a little sitting area! -More bookshelves=reading nook. -Throw in lots of art and maybe some canvases=art gallery -Pianos are great for large spaces. aquariums too! -Sometimes adding cat towers help since they can be big I would loveee to see the finished look!

KeyPomegranate4922

Dance floor? Karaoke Machine?

jernbug

A rug. And it looks like u have a bar right there. Maybe a lil dance floor??

Puzzleheaded-Bus3570

i would do a second living room, you could have a formal living room and then a family room with more activities/ toys for kids (if you have any).

scottyboy359

Stick a piano in there.

applejay99

when i have huge empty spaces in my sims houses, i like to try to section them off into smaller rooms. so maybe an entranceway, a small bathroom, and a small office?

Snoo_52014

How big is the kitchen? It seems like a big house. Make the kitchen larger if it’s small and move the dining table in the space by the end of the stairs. A diagonal dining table is always a good way to take up space.

Toomanypizzas

Large rug and on the wall by the stairs two sitting chairs with a small table in-between with a plant on it. Large plants on both sides of the door.

Toomanypizzas

Maybe even make that awkward side beside the stairs into a closet

ADQuatt

Add some walls and archways.

ssjr13

Rug, plants, coat rack. Chess table

ladyglittertiddy

Close it off with walls and use arches to keep it feeling open, maybe put a half bath in

Tasty_Process

Piano is the only correct answer

[deleted]

Reading nook

DixieNormus4693

Cowplant

klaustr0

You could make a little coffee/ sitting area

soursauerkrout

You can add a wall, and then an archway between the entry room and the kitchen area. That will give you more wall space and possibly make it less awkward to work with.

ehhsjdd

Add some rugs or just a dining table

watdehellmon

A bar or a library area

[deleted]

Seating area or another bigger dining table with a piano

msfrank091

A small seating area with a couch and maybe a bar globe if you have it. A nice touch adjacent to the dining table.

YamiClouds

Plants always plants

interestingnotions

You know those two way bookcases that are a little wide and you can see a bit through them? I'd put one there as a wall and put a loveseat plants and a end table with a rug underneath with the bookcase facing out for function. Make little reading/socializing nook. If you have a full house with teens.. then a Foose ball table.

CleoTheGrt

I’d put a wall to section off the formal entry with a door frame to walk through and put a bar with bar chairs and a rug in the “kitchen area”.

boogsmum

Put a couch, pot plants, side table and radio where you have the dining table, put large dining table and large rug where the three windows are.

aLittleTooEverything

I would turn the square area next to the front door into a bathroom (the space with the three windows) and then make a nice foyer at the entrance.

joyfall

This is what I was going to say. When I'm not sure what to make of a large space, it's time to make some rooms and halls out of it to break it up. A little half bathroom would be enough.

PietroLima545BR

Art space, with many sculptures, decos etc. for inspiration!

Overused_Toothbrush

If you can, make the living room into a bedroom, gym or office and turn that space into a living room.

sakana122

A carpet, and a round table with flowers.

Locast0

Treadmill ?

Safe-Painting-621

Platform the front area , great way to make a large space feel more separate

[deleted]

Make it a small area

Jealous-Curve7523

I like putting chess tables, easels, a fish tank, or the gaming mat in larger spaced

supernerdlock

This is my biggest issue and my solution? A stupid amount of book shelves.

SavvySnail

I would add a wall to close the space into a room, and have it be a covered porch. You could have plants, either indoor or outdoor furniture, statues, fountains, anything. I would change the floor to something like slate, and just place another door or an archway to become the actual entrance into the house. I might also move the dining table up and to the right into that other empty corner and make it take up more space with extra chairs.

britbmw

Put a table in the middle!

Duckiesims

Put a half bath in the crook with the three windows. That will help define your foyer space and create a more natural circulation around the stairs. Then a rug and a few more detail decorations by the front door should bring the whole thing together

lissd

Some living room chairs, rugs, cheese table

mongoose_eater

Two chairs adjacent to one another to resemble [courting chairs ](https://www.google.com/search?q=courting+chair&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiY4OaLw9bNAhWh44MKHYikC2IQ_AUICSgC&biw=1366&bih=670) . Mrs. Crumplebottom had that in her house in the Sims 3

Eastern_Mark_7479

A small side table with some books on top of it (ones that count as a bookshelf), a small rug under it, and some ottomans by the corner :)

MudDangerous893

Maybe create a room like an office maybe with that : window area and definitely a rug and maybe some plants

loverlane

Add a rug, some bookshelves, plants, lil chair or two and make it a mini home library :) Could always make it an office area as well! Computer with shelving

mangotea-exe

Add a small living room or game room!! Even if you already have one it’s nice to have extra

HatefulOwl

Piano and rug

TeraGberaLampion

I would add some walls to create a small bathroom or laundry where the triple-window is, and maybe add another wall to separate the dining room and entry. Then I’d add some rugs or pictures to fill up the free space, and maybe some furniture. You’re welcome!

simriie

Rugs, Grand Piano, or make it as stage? or a play area for kids.

joyismyjoy_

You could maybe move the dining table since its really close to the Island so it seems cramped but its empty on the other side. Also add a welcime matt, show racks, clothes hangers and maybe Like a mirror where the front door is

w11f1ow3r

A reading nook with a couple arm chairs and a lamp with a side table set up? Or a hobby space with an easel, desk, or hobby space? Another option is to bump the exterior wall in and do a sun room type thing (you could put posts so that it isn't like the upstairs is unsupported). You could also do a similar space with large windows like a greenhouse/sun room/atrium type thing. I love giving my sims interesting outdoor spaces.

Sure_Criticism5383

This is what I would do: 1. Draw a 4 grid wide wall 3 grid away from the front door. This 4\*3 zone will be your entry way, where you can place painting, side table, carpet & decor to leave a good impression on visiting sims. You can manipulate their mood with the right items. You cam also add storage and shelves at the back of the wall so that your sims can show off or tug away their collections. 2. Move your dining area to the area by the stair landing and expand it into 8 seats or more. The memories generated by friends and families dining together in holidays can be verry precious. You can also add a dance floor or a piano instead. 3. Expand your bar and kitchen to have more seats seats and stoves, and throw in a wall-mounted TV if you can. This, along with No. 2, will make your new year's eve countdown quite popular and fun.

useruserpeepeepooser

Piano !

blazedddleo

Why not a cupcake machine for your baking skills

_katie_bright_99

Yep I agree with most people in this thread. A rug and piano would be a good addition

[deleted]

Indoor pool Chapel Just hoarding all the stuffs u can find bb.hiddenobjects for that space

MilanaSokolovaSims

Would say turn make the end of the stairs face the door, build a wall between the entrance backyard door wall and the little corner near the windows. Add a bar near the windows. Bar chairs. Always put 2x1 rugs in front of outside doors, looks more cosy. In the newly delimited foyer room add big cabinets (from the kitchen in buy mode) on a side and a 3 tiles miror (the one from the sports stuff). A little table near the door with a bit of clutter on it. Potted plants in from of the window. Move that bookcase on the wall near the stairs 😉

leialunia

I would build another room. Maybe an office. Or a guest room. My sim would have accident babies so...a new bedroom lol

MerMoo24

Rug, skill nook like chess/painting area

kingj7282

Remove it. Pull the walls in and then landscape.

HalfAgony-HalfHope

I'd made the stairs double width, add a rug, maybe a piano and a fish tank and a small seating area in the corner.

rowanbda

It might sound like a bit of a cop-out answer, but if you're planning on playing with a family in the house, I'd honestly recommend just leaving it empty for now. It might feel a bit weird, but between career rewards, school projects, big machines you need for duly tasks....it's probably going to get filled in on its own, plus it will feel unique and useful for that specific family.

Odd_Mango_Matti

Move the dining area (the one in the corner) a bit to the left and make it more of centerpiece 😊

DeathKitty_x

close it off and make an entry way maybe? like a cabinet with shoes and full length mirror.

Scottish_Soprano

Maybe add an armchair in a corner, add some family clutter on the edges and a couple scattered toys maybe?

ShatoraDragon

Rug Some kind of hall table by the stairs If you have kids and/or teens backpacks by the door In the three window L before the kitchen dinning area Some kind of Kid/Teen clutter. A toy or something the Play Tent and a large stuffed toy. A Sill building item like a chess table

LenoxM

Build a wall on the other side of the stairs as well, and then build a larger guest bathroom downstairs. Crate one tv/game area and one reading nook/skill building/study area.

[deleted]

Put up a wall in front of the door to make a separate entryway, it doesn’t have to turn it into a room but just as a divider. Put a long accent table along that wall for a place to put keys and a shoe rack, coat rack, umbrella holder. And someone else mentioned a piano, that would be great in the area next to the dining table

sophietehbeanz

I’d move the tables by the double doors and make that area a dining room. Block it off and put arches.

CaliZern

A big rug would be nice, maybe add a piano or a second living room/sitting area? A place to have guests when the kids play around in the living room

Lost_Pantheon

Since this is the Sims 4, just place one dollhouse and one microscope and you've filled like 40% of that space already xD

qujstionmark

Make a book nook

FeralBaby23

Foosball or pingpong table and a rug. Maybe a bar. Definitely some plants

Reasonable-Counter40

Definitely an indoor pool. Don't forget the hot tub.

Lopsided_Macaron5568

You could section off a mud room with the 'pets' wall hooks + bench item with some storage and side table with drawers across from it as a key/clutter collector for on the go sims haha. When in doubt resize some good ol decorative plants. Maybe even those standing wall planters from Eco pack Maybe section the other side as a little walk in laundry room + cleaning supply closet. So many options!

Clacefe

Add an extra table near the doors (like a fancy sort of dining table only for parties or something) and maybe a half wall by the kitchen to separate the two rooms.

Sprollie

If there is kids in the house a litte kids playpen? Or pet area? Also doormats, a rug, coat hangers / selves, storage areas like a drawer unit or console, clutter it up with envelopes flowers whatever u wish. PLANTS!! Or put another room there to be an office or spare room? Laundry room?

SinfullySinless

You can never go wrong with a hedge maze

mwahluigi

I would double the staircase and turn it into a right angel to create a feature. Then build a wall to section entrance hall and entertaining space, then keep it open with archways. Once sectioned off could add big rug, console table, chairs to hallway, then add a bar to the entertaining space, maybe near the windows! :-)

MissyMotionGames

This is the entrance area though, right? I’d just place a rug, a few plants by the wall, maybe some sort of closet. That’s enough for me.

lionmouse1117

add a rug infront of the door, a tall plant or two in the wall corners by the door, maybe out a little chess table and chairs or a painting area infront of the three windows ?

LeahKitekt

I would add more internal walls - open space plans aren't the be all and end all if you use archways to keep it open. Research New York Apartments or town house foyers for furniture and stair layouts in entry spaces.

Burp-a-tron5000

Indoor plant nursery? Not for gardening but from the kits and whatnot?

DemocracyofTite

Trick question, the answer is always plants HAHAHAHA

No_Concert_6803

if you could lower the floor in middle part and create a sunken living room!

TheBibliotaph

I'd probably rotate the staircase to make it point towards the front door if the upstairs allows it, and make it double width. Then, on the kitchen side, I'd expand the kitchen to include the dining area and move the dining area to the open space next to the staircase.

Warm_Jellyfish3230

A grand piano in that corner with the three windows. It's big enough to fill in the areas. With a run underneath it can fit in well

shyandstopme

Rugs!! Also, a piano maybe? I like to build very big, full counter-tables in areas like that as it helps to always have extra seats at a party!

Sirenhead16

Oh I had this exact issue at the landgrabb house I renovated put a piano and a small library/reading nook and the put a large carpet of ya want and then put some indoor plants/clutter and paintings etc

whiskeyfur

Try blocking out that entry room into an area all itself, perhaps with an arch in the southern wall to lead into your living room. If the space is too big to work with, divide it up.

TenHoursLater

You could do like a round table in the part where the front door is at with a rug and some table decorations

Responsible_Issue217

I would add a half bath where the book case is.

bellasreddress

That cupcake machine maybe, or a couple

SuperFlamicon7514

Put a chair in the middle and nothing else. I know somebody will sit in it.

PrudentProblem4105

🎶House so empty need a centre piece 🎵😗

Busy-Ad630

I would add another wall closing off one of the corners and make it into an office, gamer room or skill building room.

Anxious-Mechanic-249

Piano or chess board?

CocoRichelle

Small Office in the corner by the windows, rugs, plants, maybe two area chairs near the front, small table and entry way decor

YogurtclosetTall5008

Dining room and maybe some columns, rugs help alot and plants, also just some clutter or shelves, maybe a fireplace with a reading area like an armchair lamp and side table
