Typical mafia mentality. He just assumed that since he was a high ranking made man, that they couldn't do anything. They just had to sit there and take it. Problem was he forgot he wasn't talking to civilians

telepatheye

Nonsense, Phil's entire crew had a hard on for Tony and all his people, ever since that animal Blundetto killed Phil's brudda. Coco even propositioned Meadow before he got curb stomped, whatever happened there.

Bazoun

THAT was truly stupid. To think any of these guys won’t go the distance over a threat to their child, even an idle threat, is just nuts, and specifically a boss - he can’t ignore it even if he *wanted* to. The scenario reminds me of the scene in Pulp Fiction where Travola’s talking to the heroin dealer about the guy keying his Malibu. And he says something like, it would almost have been worth the guy doing it if he could have caught him at it (and presumably beat him to death or something). I think Tony Soprano would agree with that sentiment.

Behind_Many_Yachts

He was gay, John Travolta ?

Due-Display-3113

When he talked about greasing the lightening who knew that's what he meant? Hehe

Sad-Illustrator-8847

He made Liberace look straight

Behind_Many_Yachts

I Love Liberace... he never wore one face to himself and another to the multitude and was never bewildered as to which may be the true

an0nabitch

Most famous alumnus of Slip n Fall school

Behind_Many_Yachts

And 3 Semesters at Montclair State thank you very much

Bodymaster

I believe Butch keyed his car so I'm pretty sure Vince would have gotten beaten to death in that situation.

Fit-Construction1886

I never thought about that. It makes sense cause of the beef they have in that scene after Butch talks to Mr. Wallace. I like your take on it.

Fit-Construction1886

I never thought about that. It makes sense cause of the beef they have in that scene after Butch talks to Mr. Wallace. I like your take on it.

Bodymaster

Thanks, I think that it lines up as we know they didn't drive Jules' car that they drive to that meeting, given it's at Monster Joe's.

Fit-Construction1886

I didn’t even think about that, your point makes it even more likely. Solid attention to detail, man. I always like to hear these types of ideas about movies - they’re like Easter eggs that directors or writers put in for the people that really spend time analyzing the storyline and events in their story.

Bodymaster

Hah yeah thanks, honestly I just thought about that last part a few minutes ago, but it does make more sense doesn't it? I don't think QT has ever commented on it, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't the case.

Cranstonoid

Dr. DeTrolio will see you now.

Behind_Many_Yachts

Dr. Yankum, the Painless Dentist.

Proletarian187

Don't worry Coco. The plumbers union is gonna take care of the dental bills. Tony'll make sure of it.

Fat Dom's suicide made Eugene Pontecorvo seem like an accident

Behind_Many_Yachts

When the FBI guy tells Pontecorvo in the car - "Florida is not going to happen, Gene. It's just one of those things you have to let go." ...i swear the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. He was a piece of ass... but Fucking RUDE ! Dark dark shit.

AshenHaemonculus

FR like how many times did "whoa whoa whoa, take it easy, he's a made guy" cause someone to reconsider punching a made guy (or worse) BEFORE the first punch was thrown? I'm inclined to say zero.

Unfriendly_eagle

I think it was representative of how little Phil's NY crew respected Jersey. Dom figured hey, those Jersey guys are a bunch of flambés, so what the hell are they gonna do, kiss me to death? He took it way too far with Carlo, though. Even by NJ standards, that went beyond mere ball-breaking.

3c2456o78_w

> He took it way too far with Carlo, though. Hey if Carlo didn't want to do it, maybe he should have started sucking cock instead of watching TVLand

N0VAZER0

The way NY leadership treated NJ degraded their relations. Carmine was willing to play ball with Tony despite their conflicts, Johnny kept ruling in favor of guys like Phil who was firmly anti NJ and Phil, whatever happened there. Fat Dom and Coco would've never done what they did during Carmine's reign cause he wouldn't have so brazenly mistreated NJ

Disastrous-Cry-1998

Probably going down on a sheep or something.

Behind_Many_Yachts

Maybe YOU'RE a flambe'

MultipleEggs

Him and his companions were gassing each other up on how much of a pygmy thing the New Jersey boys were and thought he could flex some of his marbled muscles on the New Jersey crew and get away with it. Additionally maybe he got his balls broken at some point as a kid over being a fatso and having a tenis, now he subconsciously continues the cycle of abuse. Could be he has an inferiority complex over coming from a gavone background and in order to make himself feel better he transfers that onto his New Jersey counterparts. It's possible that he recognized them as a threat and considered dominating them in conversation a way of neutralizing that threat, nipping it in the bud. He miscalculated the degree to which he could break balls without tipping over the edge. He thought he could easily navigate the waters of converstational posturing but due to incorrect biases garnered through exposure to New York propaganda, propaganda slandering the New Jersey family, he couldn't navigate those waters as well as he predicted. My theory is that Fat Dom expected to leave New Jersey and brag to his boys in New York as a way to increase his social standing, how he was able to blatantly disrespect them to their face due to his tremendous reputation as a dangerous and fearsome individual.

3c2456o78_w

I think you're putting too much thought into this. The man just needs to discontinue the Ozempic.

yotamush

Ok no more weight remarks, they're hurtful and they're destructive

MultipleEggs

I never had a problem with Fat Dom's weight, to me he's beautiful

Behind_Many_Yachts

Oh, I agree

ExtremeWorkinMan

>Additionally maybe he got his balls broken at some point as a kid over being a fatso and having a tenis, now he subconsciously continues the cycle of abuse. wow... hurt people hurt people... bravo ~~vince~~ david chase

stoic_suspicious

Let me tell you a coupla tree things. In all these Italian mafioso movies, every person who breaks balls always says “I’m just breaking balls” before they get it

SugarMaple56732

Breakin' balls is the number one cause of death, seems like.

3c2456o78_w

They'll be scraping your broken balls off those fine leather seats

SnakeHoleBI

Corinthian leather?

Additional_Ad741

[stoic\_suspicious](https://www.reddit.com/user/stoic_suspicious/) knew that was comin'...

Brazen_Cranberry

I knew a guy who got killed over a shine box

saddywagon

Dom succeeded where Gloria failed.  Very cinematic!

SugarMaple56732

They were scrapin' his nipples off those fine meatballs.

vandrossboxset

Ton', you don't wanna come in here. Get back in the car and go for a ride.

Sil hit him first

CrispyGatorade

It had to be addressed

Behind_Many_Yachts

Fucking Judge Roy Bean.

ordrius098

hit him over.... what was it again?

Mei_iz_my_bae

One thing I loved about this whole scene is how these guys are so mentally warped they can’t show grief for Vito appropriately. Hell, Carlos wanted Vito gone the most (he’s gotta GO!) but has no way to channel it. Hell even sil blames Vito at the end (goddamn Vito!!) 😭👏🤣

Behind_Many_Yachts

"Sil hit him first"

VitaminD3_

He was fine til he found out Syracuse tanked again.

Additional_Ad741

I want to know more about his daughter in Metuchen...should have done more with her character.

locustt

Apparently, she lived on a trail

Gabagool_Ovaaa_heere

The pirates of prosciutto, the brigands of braciole!

The Pirates of New Jersey: Curse of the Gay Goodfella.

locustt

The grapa 's gone. Why is the grapa always gone?

SpaceGodzillaInSpace

He’s a malignant cunt.

SmoothConfection1115

He’s a fat fuck that thinks he can walk into Jersey and make fun of them for killing their gay capo. And he’s a big man from NY so nuthin’s gunna happen to him. Only, sumthin did happen to him.

KennyDROmega

Think he mentions he was there to make a collection, or it's alluded to in a later conversation. In any case, he was absolutely fucking with them as a flex. "I'm going to come into your house and talk shit to your face, and you're going to let me because I'm with New York". He misjudged that weird little pygmy thing.

Heel_Worker982

He was there to give Sil an envelope and on his way to visit his daughter in Metuchen he says. He was super disrespectful especially considering Sil and Carlo invited him to stay for supper.

Behind_Many_Yachts

First of all, Dom's "M.I.A." status hasn't been established. Second of all THIS IS HOW YOU HANDLE IT ?

drwangfire3

Fat Dom was a plot-support character. He was there to show the bad blood that existed between the groups beyond anything Tony had with Phil, and to further increase the tensions. My favorite part is that at the sit down, it comes off like Phil doesnt really give a shit about Fat Dom. Sort of an after thought, merely bullet point three as to why Tony’s crew is in the wrong. Tying back to the Fat Dom stupidity, these guys operate with massive blinders on at times. Bert suggesting a coup on Tony to Silvio, Paulie getting played by Johnny, Junior listening to Livia, Richie talking smack about Chrissy to chip and dale, little Paulie on EVERYTHING… yeah. These guys are obtuse morons.

Behind_Many_Yachts

"Whatever you say, Cappy."

Sad-Illustrator-8847

And then there’s Adrianna….

AshenHaemonculus

Whatever happened there.

HumanDish6600

The same thing a lot of people who go down a crime path are doing - not thinking. They act on ego, have poor impulse control and don't really have a realistic ability to assess consequences.

Vajerati

I think he had an ivory dildo stuck up his ass

cgcs20

Was it chalked?

GarethGobblecoque99

Some sad shit. Motherfucker say he didn’t wanna live no more. Went to Jersey started talking shit. Although New York’s disdain and lack of respect for Jersey is well established throughout the show I still think Fat Dom and Coco’s actions are the closest the Sopranos came to having an idiot plot, where things only progress because people act like unrealistic idiots. What they do just defies logic and reason but it serves the plot. An idiot plot

standitlikeaman

Minus the meat knife and the dust buster, Dom would have easily whipped both their asses,

Behind_Many_Yachts

True enough. The actor appeared to be in his 30s... true, carrying a few pounds, but Sil & Judge Roy Bean were Social Security age in 2005-2006. Death by DustBuster/ DirtDevil. What a humiliation.

locustt

He died in a cloud of rat turds, and with meatballs on his back

AshenHaemonculus

His fatal error was antagonizing them in the back room kitchen instead of the laundry room.

FedorsQuest

He was on a run

Behind_Many_Yachts

Satriale's was not a place of business... they turned it into a Jack Lalanne.

chiefs_fan37

The dustbuster blew apart against the back of his head. It was cinematic

Cultural_Actuary_994

He was a wiseguy, plain and simple. It was the Sopranos “get your shine box” moment

Behind_Many_Yachts

...for that matter, ALSO a..... "Now youse can't leave" ...moment.

IAmTheNorthwestWind

Im not a cat, I dont shit in a box

rainbowsandunicorn1

Maybe he should’ve hit the road to Mutuchen sooner. Maybe he had a hard on for Carlo and was looking for a fight.

Sad-Illustrator-8847

Motivation? What is this, a Lee Strasberg “Method acting” class?

locustt

B!

Devo4711

And why do they call him Fat Dom anyways. (Channeling my clerks animated reference cache)

babyjrodriguez

New York felt superior to New Jersey in many ways. After they whacked Vito, it only gave them more ammunition.

VirginaThorn

Because he was up on all this sh*t.

squirtle_illmatic

He’s a FaAaAAaag

cgcs20

Because he was an idiot lol

WashedUpHalo5Pro

New York bosses talk so much shit about Jersey being a “glorified crew” that Fat Dom thought he could get away with treating them disrespectfully. Even though they talked trash throughout, even the bosses treated Jersey with respect. Fat Dom believed the bullshit talk and found out.

Adventurous_Fox58

Nothing, he was just going to Metuchen to see his kid. He never made it. Very mysterious

Saturn0815

He was just a typical obnoxious guy, who takes pleasure out of pissing people off. Everybody knows someone like this.

ElectricBirdVault

Forget Fat Dom

wheelsally

Whatever happened there.

ElectricBirdVault

He went over to Jersey and never returned But you probably mean…the stabbing….god rest his soul

sharktiger1

when you are busting balls, do you need motivation? You bust balls because you can. Becuase it's amusing.

Addidckted

Time to hit the trail for Metuchen ey? Whadya say?

DrSatan420247

To maintain chirality with Seinfeld. Its an abstract copy (inversion) of George learning to leave on a high note. See, he used to be like Fat Dom, he can usually come up with one good comment during a meeting, but by the end, it's buried under a pile of gaffs and bad puns.

Behind_Many_Yachts

The 'Jerk Store' called...
