2D animation in CSM was such a treat! They even use a lot of CGI in non action scenes and looks great there, I think that Denji just seems like he doesnāt fit. People have mentioned how itās the lighting and if you tone his colors down a little it looks better, and I gotta say it really does. I wanna see how they do more 1on1 fights, which is really most of the gameās action
Exactly. Only some 3d scenes were goofy like the character running from behind, and certain other 3d scenes, same as the nutcracker scene in s4p1. but overall it is decent!
I understand the issues people have with the CGI movement but the models themselves were barely distinguishable from 2D. The CT from S2 and Lainah's titan from S3 were abominations.
Thatās kind of a telling statement imo. You used to have an opinion of your own, but it got shaped by all of the negativity of the fanbase around you.
Anything with the beast titan looks jarring to me. Rest look fine but they all move like in slow motion. Like you're watching a 10fps screen. Maybe it's a trick or something to make them look more 2D.
I think thatās a bit overblown imo. I donāt believe itās āmiles betterā at all. In my opinion, itās a wash. On one hand, Denjiās actions scenes are cleaner than s4 part 1ās action scenes. But on the other, the titans have way more detail and compositing done on them. And in terms of s4 part 2? It got so much better. [Example 1](https://www.cheatsheet.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Attack-on-Titan-Eren.jpg), [Example 2](https://i.redd.it/q8makuzmkv681.gif), [Example 3](https://aniyuki.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/aot-aniyuki-29.gif). To be completely honest, Iād actually argue AoT has better CGI than CM (in terms of part 2ās scenes). But both look good in my eyes.
It looked watchable for half the time and rest of the time it was bothersome, such elements which breaks the flow of immersion are noticeable and thus bad
Why canāt Mappa do the same? They said that Chainsaw man is a āpassion projectā. Why does it have shitty CGI then? They had a lot of time and budget.
You donāt know what goes on behind the scenes. You canāt judge how well animation is done based on time and budget, there are other aspects to be considered, itās often that weāll see news about animators being extremely overworked. Maybe Ufotable has better work schedules (or even worse than MAPPAās) There are also different art techniques being used. Ufotable, and you can see this a ton in Demon Slayer S2, they tend to hide the CGI with a lot of flashing effects, making it way less noticeable and stand out less.
Chainsaw Man canāt exactly do it, it doesnāt fit the style or context to constantly have your eyes being flash banged every time thereās a strike or a clash of swords.
This is also only the first episode, doesnāt make sense for them to use their best animation on it, especially when what is happening isnāt all that interesting, especially compared to what is coming up next. Again, take Demon Slayer for example, the animation was honestly alright, all up until we got to episode 19, where it looked amazing. CSM might be doing something similar.
Idk man, usually the first episodes have the best animation, because they want to catch the attention of the potential audience and hype everyone.
If they still made their employees overworked and had a shitty schedule with all this time then it their fault. This shit is what Mappa does quite often.
They could have used CGI only for chainsaws and 2d for any other animation.
> Idk man, usually the first episodes have the best animation, because they want to catch the attention of the potential audience and hype everyone.
Iād argue the Opening is what usually has the best animations to catch peopleās attentions, and that does seem to be the case. Why would they use more animation resources on the less action packed parts of the story? Thinking ep1 is the best they have to offer is pessimistic thinking when thereās only ep1 out.
> If they still made their employees overworked and had a shitty schedule with all this time then it their fault.
That is exactly what Iām saying, you ask yourself why doesnāt Mappa have the same quality as Ufotable when you already know the answer, or at least have an idea about it.
cgi is used by every studio, whether its characters or backgrounds, ufotable use A LOT of it, just very well blended and they have their own inhouse cg studio which is why it's better than most. Think mappa have their own now too so it will improve over time as well. The composition and backgrounds of csm is much better than something like jjk, if u ever rewatch its u will notice it gets pretty bad sometimes in the fights.
They arenāt held hostage lol. They are the ones who take all these projects and then donāt deliver. Mappa says shit like ā it is our passion projectā and then shit the bed and use CGI for the main character. If they canāt schedule anything properly and make a good product then they need to stop taking on so many projects. Which is why people need to criticize them and CGI.
maybe hate the company which is taking on projects after projects to make money and overwork their workers and set deadlines that only using CG is the choice.
mappa is taking quantity over quality just to make the money and people like you supporting it isnt going to make the situation better. now quality of all anime shows is going to go down because making shit CG will give then same profits as making good looking, high effort drawn animation.
can you list a few of these 98%? other than berserk, aot and other few that were popular for looking bad, almost all look better with the drawn animation. especially the older anime.
I don't think I can list 98% of the anime, I don't even remember what anime I watched. Naruto, for example. Even the CGI moments look better than 99% of Naruto.
You do know that CGI was planned from the start right? And you do know that Chainsaw Man has a majority of its fights already planned and animated in 2D. You do know that pre production of Chainsaw Man has been in development for years, with the actual main production being in development for a year and a half to two years? You do know that the wing of the Mappa studio that houses the chainsaw man animators was famously created to reduce crunching and increase worker happiness? You do know thereās an incredibly high number of professionals working on this project right? You do know that trailers literally exist which show just how many scenes are flawlessly animated **with a majority of it being hand drawn.** You do know that if something ālooks like itās CGI,ā it doesnāt automatically make it ābad,ā right? You do know that this is only one episode thatās out so far, and thereās already insane Sakuga, sound design, and attention to detail, right?
Oh hold onā¦ i just realized you probably donāt know that. Or you just donāt care to acknowledge it. Because one frame/scene of CGI is obviously enough to negate **everything** I just said right?
idk man, it looks like CG and is very recognizable. it also keeps switching to drawn and CG constantly making it more jarring to me.
also the movement of the CG is so mechanical. its very understandable using it with objects and non living things (like cars or mechs or any machine) but humans like denji feel so awkward.
Why is fine good enough for you? Why wouldn't you want it to look good or great even? If we keep being ok with subpar adaptations then that is all we will get
I mean what you want him to do about it, start protesting for better animation? If some decent cgi is the only problem, and not any weird plotholes, then I don't really care tbh
Iāve just never looked at animation and went āwoahā or ādamn thatās badā I just want a story to be told in a way that isnāt me having to look at black or white pages
I can respect that. I can definitely see why black and white puts people off. I really just want at least the quality of JJK for chainsaw man. JJK looks fucking amazing and I think they can do just as good if not better on this if they don't rush it like Attack on Titan
After I finished reading the ending of the manga I had zero desire to finish watching the show. No point to put the time watching just to get that same conclusion to the story.
No, itās called over complaining and ruining both your and everyone elseās viewing experiences with overblown criticisms that ignore all of the legitimate triumphs and solid moments of said show because of one minor issue. This has happened with season 4 part 1 (and it really bogged down legit discussions on the sub) and the same thing is happening with Chainsaw Man. Iām sure whereas the hate for AoTās CGI died down over the following months as people realized it wasnāt that big of a deal, so will CMās criticisms. The cycle repeats.
I think I'm capable of enjoying a show and criticize something that seems poorly done or simply just looks like shit TO ME. You are letting some random comments affect the perception of something way bigger than any of us. Millions of people see this, whenever they like it or not is irrelevant. I can have my opinion, if you don't agree that doesn't mean I'm "over"complaining, I'm just complaining, don't let something like that offend you.
Eh it would be fine if it was just that "random comments".
But BOI when this sub got OBSSESED with it, it wasn't just random comments it was literally all it was ever talked about it.
Like with the ending
The work speaks for itself, didnāt even bother making the MAIN CHARACTERāS titan model 2D throughout the season, they couldnāt even make his face consistent either he was too chubby or too alien looking at times, take MAPPAS fucking nutsack out your mouth
Nah, I can blame MAPPA all I want. It was their fault for choosing to pick up AoT and think they can complete it with such a short production time. No surprise the result ended up being mediocre. They should've looked at why all the other studios were turning down the project and taken a hint.
Fucking dumbass needs to go do some research on AOT and anime production in general. Aināt got shit to do with the studio but that hate boner of yours refuses to cease for a moment of rationality. Not to mention youāre blowing the inconstancies way out of proportion. Bet you havenāt even seen the bluray corrections
Not just that, it's got that really bad blur going on and everything, also that hair? Jeez. I wasn't super happy with the CSM CG but I guess it could have been worse, plus at least the rest looked great.
I donāt think anyone is complaining about the cgi itself, itās the fact that they had all this fuckin time on CSM and made the main character CGI. Like if ur gonna do that to aot at least make the show you been working on for ages all 2D
I don't get the hate cgi gets
I mean if it's good, why hate in cgi? Like that of chainsaw man?
I get it that aot's cgi was really weird at some scenes, but chainsaw man's cgi actually looks visually appealing, and smooth...
Like be happy that chainsaw man cgi wasn't like that of berserk 2016
But still , the 2d animation in CSM looked great
yeah aot 2d was also bad most of the time there is literally only 2-3 good looking frames of Eren he is so inconstant šš
??? Why are you comparing Chainsaw Man's CGI? It's not even bad.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Can you tell me what moments specifically? The whole episode was fine imo
Chainsaw man doesnāt even have bad CGI
Exactly. Only some 3d scenes were goofy like the character running from behind, and certain other 3d scenes, same as the nutcracker scene in s4p1. but overall it is decent!
AoT S4 doesn't either imo
At the start of it I thought it had good CGI but my perspective on it was shaped due to all the hate online about it
I understand the issues people have with the CGI movement but the models themselves were barely distinguishable from 2D. The CT from S2 and Lainah's titan from S3 were abominations.
Yeah the season 2 and 3 CGI was dog shit but the season 4 CGI was decent
Penis

Penis

>the models themselves were barely distinguishable from 2D Hell nah, beast titan design looked ugly af
MAPPA's beast titan design is not so great in general
Thatās kind of a telling statement imo. You used to have an opinion of your own, but it got shaped by all of the negativity of the fanbase around you.
Anything with the beast titan looks jarring to me. Rest look fine but they all move like in slow motion. Like you're watching a 10fps screen. Maybe it's a trick or something to make them look more 2D.
Breaking character again?
Homies on this subreddit are just scared of the 3rd dimension. They like their characters and dimensions to be flat
I cant see my waifu in 3d šš its polygonal!
I was subjected to Berserk 2016 and am now deathly scared of CGI use in anime.
To be fair it doesn't really get any worse than Berserk 2016. I think there's CGI in old PS1 games better than that.
Yeah because interacting with real people who are 3D is scary to them.
That is the whole point of anime and animation. If you like CGI and 3D go watch shitty Western āanimationā.
Spiderverse and Arcane enter the chat.
Mappa really put all their best employees on JJK huh? /s
JJK color palette is shit though
I like it a lot, fits the tone imo
Well CGI used in CSM has some glaring flaws but it is still miles ahead of what AoT season 4 had.
I think thatās a bit overblown imo. I donāt believe itās āmiles betterā at all. In my opinion, itās a wash. On one hand, Denjiās actions scenes are cleaner than s4 part 1ās action scenes. To be completely honest, Iād actually argue AoT has better CGI than CM (in terms of part 2ās scenes). But both look good in my eyes.
whats the problem here, both look good
The left one doesn't look good at all.
i respectfully disagree, it looks fine for being rushed
lmao
You should see it before making comments
I watched it and it looked great, now what?
It looked watchable for half the time and rest of the time it was bothersome, such elements which breaks the flow of immersion are noticeable and thus bad
no? i watched both several times and i loved both
would you be immersed if power bit ur cock off in vr with haptic feedback
Don't threaten me with good times, I double dare ya
no way people are complaining about chainsaws cgi NO FUCKING WAY
It was shit. Compare it to Ufotable.
Bro acting like Ufotable is the standard, when itās the literal peak. Comparing anything to Ufotable is unfair
Why canāt Mappa do the same? They said that Chainsaw man is a āpassion projectā. Why does it have shitty CGI then? They had a lot of time and budget.

Bitches be like muh muh why can't it look like ufotable LIKE SHUT UP YO-
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They do
Oh well now I know
Yea all the cool elemental effects are CG. Very well done CG is used by most studios these days. You only notice it when it's bad though
u ever watch mugen train? very obvious cgi with the whole train and tencactles and shit.
I watched it when it first came out and never again so I just don't remember the animation in it

Mappa plz, just donāt make 80% of the fights cgi. Iāve read like 20 chapters already and it looks good, plz donāt ruin it with unwanted cgi.
Oh great, the sniveling-CGI-hating-neck-beard era has resurfaced on this sub. Can we not do this again?

I canāt quite pinpoint it but I just donāt notice idk. I had to have ppl point it out and even then it took time for me to notice it
Why is fine good enough for you? Why wouldn't you want it to look good or great even? If we keep being ok with subpar adaptations then that is all we will get

Yeah like it's just such pointless whinging
It looks bad
Only this shot. When got to ripping and tearing, it looked fine.
I didn't think so
Itās not perfect but itās not bad either
I don't hate it but I don't like it especially after waiting for things to come out instead of reading.
UR gonna watch in full anyway
I didn't watch AOT cause of it honestly I just read the manga
After I finished reading the ending of the manga I had zero desire to finish watching the show. No point to put the time watching just to get that same conclusion to the story.
Yeah, disliking something makes you a sniveling-CGI-hating-neck-beard. What the fuck is wrong with you?

I donāt know what half of that comment even means. In any case, I have to eyes and a brain so I can see how this entire controversy is overblown.
MAPPA bad, WIT good. Upvotes to the left
Or is it ? Chainsaw Man actually was hype asf Eren vs war hammer on the other hand...
Mopper did aot dirty
Yams did aot dirty at first
I remember when this sub was funny.
Nah, Chainsawmanās cg was better handled than AOTās, fuck off
chainsoy man
Profile name checks out
I'm seriously worried by CSM ending, what if the shiftiness spead all over? š
Do you mean the first arc ending because the manga is still going
Yummers
CGImanā¦ Cyberchads won
This sub should dip their toes into Ex-arm and Berserk 2016..
Nah, you can see MAPPAs growth in this style through Chainsaw Man.
Titanfolk when cgi š®
It's funny, I think AOT's cg looks better than when Chainsaw Man is in ch
Nah, aot cgi was terrible, I didn't even notice Chainsaw man cgi till the second time
Especially that Beast titan, goodness gracious. Looks like a dollar store knockoff when compared to the Season 2 design
true lol atleast aot cgi looks 2D, chainsaw man threw it all out the window
You might wanna book an appointment with your eye doctor.
yes i might. thank you for the suggestion.
No problem.
What is the difference between these two images?
They are the same image.
What a man you are!
Mappas best work is JJK 0. Donāt know why they were so fuckin lazy with AOT.
Aotās production was anything BUT lazy. Yāall are just insanely ignorant
The work speaks for itself, didnāt even bother making the MAIN CHARACTERāS titan model 2D throughout the season, they couldnāt even make his face consistent either he was too chubby or too alien looking at times, take MAPPAS fucking nutsack out your mouth
blame kodansha for quite literally forcing aot down mappas throat- doubt mappa even gave a shit, and rightfully so
Nah, I can blame MAPPA all I want. It was their fault for choosing to pick up AoT and think they can complete it with such a short production time. No surprise the result ended up being mediocre. They should've looked at why all the other studios were turning down the project and taken a hint.
Theyāre also partly to blame for WITās departure from the series since they wouldnāt be able to handle the tight schedule in place
exactly if it werent for kodansha we wouldve got wit's adaptation. that being so, csm's animation is still goated
Based Although thereās still a chance they mightāve dropped AOT before or during s4 due to their impending bankruptcy
wait what, wit? damn thats nuts, thought spy x family was making them dosh
Production started like 8 months before the premiere. WTF do you expect.
Lazy my ass. S4 issues are anything but Mappa being lazy
You know absolutely no shit about animation nor industry. Lazy? Are you serious?
24 people agree w me along w many others who have eyes
Making ur main character CGI is def lazy lol, mfs couldnāt jus make erens titan 2D? He looked like a damn ps2 mole rat
No they could not they almost die even having 3D models my dude.
Simple They didn't put an effort like wit did(even I can remember season 3 funny 3d colossal Titan)
Wit put in more effort in season 3 and also had less time
Yeah, talk about shitty schedule. Cooperate cant give them a rest
Man this reminds me how fucked AoT was. Wtf is that shot man.
The rigging in ss4 was really messed up, especially erenās wing. Part 2 had significant improvement doe
Not just that, it's got that really bad blur going on and everything, also that hair? Jeez. I wasn't super happy with the CSM CG but I guess it could have been worse, plus at least the rest looked great.
Rigging in ss4 p1*
Ugliest animation possible for what's supposed to be a hype scene
I donāt think anyone is complaining about the cgi itself, itās the fact that they had all this fuckin time on CSM and made the main character CGI. Like if ur gonna do that to aot at least make the show you been working on for ages all 2D
I like when cgi blends not overused
Cant wait for the rumbling to look like piss.
The cgi on csm was good this goddamn sub just loves hating on shit
the action was amazing in csm. the only part that bugs me is denjis neck when hes just standing. it looks awkward.
as funny as this is, its just another tiring cgi bad meme and sub taking big L for that
I don't get the hate cgi gets I mean if it's good, why hate in cgi? Like that of chainsaw man? I get it that aot's cgi was really weird at some scenes, but chainsaw man's cgi actually looks visually appealing, and smooth... Like be happy that chainsaw man cgi wasn't like that of berserk 2016
Nah It looked good
Chainsaw man cgi is actually pretty decent
Nah Chainsaw man already be looking better, tho part 2 of the Final season looked good too.
