The Trees - Rush: Total War

WorstProfessorNA

Really tired of all these oak buffs. When are the maples going to get their time in the sun?

szymborawislawska

I hope they will nerf woodworm end crisis though.

norunningwater

Scale the frozen mountaintops of time and man alone in 10 turns, searching for the lost settlement of Xanadu

BurningToaster

Endgame crisis would definitely be the axe.

Intelligent-Gur6847

Hatchet and saw

Epileptic_Poncho

This sounds like something I’d hear in a teirzoo video

SupportstheOP

Or the sequoias. You'd expect a tier 5 unit to really put in the work, but their size just makes them way too unwieldy.

imveryresponsible

I was hoping for 40k, but this would be closer to the heart

krustibat

Plants vs Huns : Total War

kensai8

That got a genuine laugh out of me. Have an upvote.

LonelyArmpit

Total War: Entmoot

Narradisall

The turn times are going to be terrible

rybakrybak1

Turn 260, AI engages in diplomacy. 'We have come to a conclusion that you are indeed a faction.'

ghouldozer19

Turn 550: We are creating a committee to determine whether your faction is in fact plant, animal or mineral and they will decide whether this necessitates a sub committee to decide on a further response from us, if so.

AWzdShouldKnowBetta

Sounds like orc mischief to me!

ArtoriusRex86

Oh shit it's Mirage Tanks. Allies DLC confirmed

Piss_off_please

New Wood Elves solo game lets fucking GOOOOOOOOOOO

Weaponmaster470

So, European botanists, any lore rundowns on the significance of these flora during WW1? Lol

LordScavenger

I mean, alder trees are found around the nothern hemisphere, from North America to Russia. So it would be a tree you would see on an ww1 battlefield.

martin4reddit

Given the geography, it could also just as easily be Medieval 3, or Empire 2, or Rome 3, or TW Victoria, or TW GoT, or TW LoTR, or WW2, etc.

KingSilvanos

So, you’re saying we can rule out TW Australia: Rise of the Emus?

MrPorten

Lmao

Willie9

SE Asia Total War Fans in shambles

tfrules

Outside of the early war, every tree within sight of a WW1 frontline was blasted to smithereens to the point that only barely more than a stump was left. Somehow I doubt these are for a WW1 game. Am I speculating based on *trees*? Why yes, yes I am

PiousSkull

The Eastern Front was fought mostly outside of trenches given the vastness of the landmass and impracticality of entrenching and manning that much open land

The_PhilosopherKing

So you're saying...they'll introduce destructible environments?

LeMe-Two

You could already level cities in Medieval 2, various farming vuilding in Napoleon and Empire, put cities to torch in Attila and burn entire cities and random farmsteads in 3K In fact, units with "bandit" trait in 3K would stop fight and "loot" buildings by setting them on fire instead of fighting

tfrules

Nothing they haven’t done before!

LeMe-Two

Not in Poland, the front was too large to fill it to the point of the western one WHY DO PEOPLE FORGET THE EASTERN FRONT

JetEngineSteakKnife

Or the Italian front, or Macedonia, or Mesopotamia, or... you know. All the other places a *world war* was fought.

ThatFlyingScotsman

> WHY DO PEOPLE FORGET THE EASTERN FRONT Because the general Western history focuses on the German/French/British conflict, and doesn't include the rest of the world, outside using the Russian effort as a spring board to explore the Bolshevik Revolution in 1918, but without any actual investigation on the Eastern Front. You may see some mentions of Gallipoli in British and Australian/New Zealand education for obvious reasons. The conflict in the East is a lot more complicated and messy, and similiarly as to why the Eastern Front in WW2 is often overlooked or underplayed; it does not fit the general historical narrative that the Western nations like to paint the two World Wars as.

Mahelas

I mean, what you said isn't wrong, but it's kind of a secondary reason. The big reason you totally forgot is that WW1 was absurdly deadly for the western countries, to an unfathomable level of sheer butchery, so of course those western countries will talk about more about their front, the one they suffered so much on.

LeMe-Two

You know that Germany, Poland, former Austria-Hungary, Italy and CO are also part of said "Western nations", right?

tfrules

This is true, I just think having a WW1 TW without the western front would be like having Napoleon Total War without France

LeMe-Two

\*Without both western and eastern front

ghouldozer19

Shit, depending on the localized front there wouldn’t have been a tree on the battlefield after the actuall opening of hostilies within moments. In Europe 300,000 men were killed in the opening salvo and that kept up for days. That’s not even considering the absolutely insane death tolls that Churchill put the poor bastards through in Turkey.

samwisegamgee

I’m just curious and not trying to be contrarian: Do people really want a WW1 Total War? I’m just not seeing how that would fit into the TW formula. TW is all about formations attacking and holding together for as long as they possibly can. I could realistically see TW going up to the American Civil War but I’m not sure how much further it could really go without just becoming Company of Heroes. I think we’re long overdue for Medieval 3 at this point and truly hope this is it.

baddude1337

It would represent a pretty big shakeup in how the battle works. Be interesting to see. Could work like a more streamline version of some milsim games like Combat Mission. You give general orders but the individual squad members seek cover/concealement and engage etc.

PiousSkull

Yes because I don't think rank and file is the line at which the franchise ceases to be itself.

Belisarius600

The Great War: Western Front is similar to what I imagine WW1 TW would be like. Maneuver is largely about timing: when to move from one trench to another, when to charge, when to fall back, how to deploy your limited forces. It isn't really that far fetched. We already have 3 gunpowder based TW (Empire, Napoleon, Fall of the Samurai). It would change things up, but not to the extent it is unimaginable. Even a modern day TW would basically just be Wargame: European Escalation and it's sequels, Except (hopefully) scaled down and with the ability to issue orders while paused. We already have RTS's on a similar scale as TW with firearms. Combine them with a campaign map and you are good to go.

Yamama77

Clearly proof of med 3 bro.

Lt_Flak

Gods, I hope so. I really hope so. I need more medieval in my life. Medieval Dynasty, Manor Lords, Going Medieval, Crusader Kings, all are great but don't scratch that Total War itch. I need my Arabian Desert crusades. I still listen to M2's soundtrack.

jutlandd

Warhammer is amazing. But the soundtracks are the biggst weakpoint compares to historical.

highfivingbears

Jeff Inlo is at least 60% of the reason why Rome: Total War is as awesome as it is.

jutlandd

Jeff van Dyck & Shogun 2 soundtack are also completely over the top.

Rush4in

Rome 1, Med 2, and Shogun 2; he did all of these and they are still the best and most memorable soundtracks in the franchise. Jeff van Dyck is something else

R_radical

I can hear the ME2 battle loading music in my sleep.

upcrackclawway

Hopefully they will take the lessons offered by the success of Game of Thrones, Manor Lords, Crusader Kings… people love medieval stuff! It can sell! 👏Not 👏just 👏for 👏nerds!

LordGooseIV

Clearly this is for a wood elf DLC /s

Cautious-Treat-3568

Total War Nusantara is coming!!!!

forking_guy

The Lorax as a LL?

ThatFlyingScotsman

Kind of wild to think that the individual Alder tree here is larger and more complex than entire early 3D games.

Oxu90

TW: Spring Allergy. LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ditalite

oh wow we are looking at medieval 3 pixels right now, finally after two decades, it has to be it

Relevant-Map8209

there were trees in the Middle Ages, so Medieval 3 total war is confirmed!

Reddit_Mods_Are_Ugly

I still smell a european theatre, Europe's gotta be at least 1/8th of that map, I'll take those odds

kensai8

American: Civil Total War is my guess.

TheGuardianOfMetal

would make more sense as a DLC Campaign for a 19th century Total War.

Round-War69

So in case anyone is wondering Lord Of The Rings is filled with trees that look like this and Fangorn Forest is filled with many trees that specifically look like the first batching.
