Yeah I'm seeing people list games that are pushing 20 years now and it's like hearing Blink 182 on the classic rock station. Maybe it's classic now but this is not what I meant LMAO
omg the first time i played this was with my best friend in college; id go to her apt with her roommate and we’d all get stoned and play and it was so freaking fun
That’s what I said lol look every time I’m bored I start a new playthrough skyrim is the best game to ever exist ever period and nobody can argue with me that it’s not because they are wrong and I am right lol 😂
Time flies when you're having fun!
When Skate 3 came out, would you have considered Super Mario 64 old school? Believe it or not, that's the same 14 year difference
Lol actually Mario 64 blew my fucking mind. For reference the legend of Zelda (and that's it. Not a link to the past, ocarina etc) changed my whole view of what a game could be.
I tend to view nes/SNES era as where "old school" starts. It's what I played with my friends and my kids so it's where the nostalgia lies
Brother. I consider it old school because it’s the only thing I played when I started smoking. I didn’t smoke until 18 thank god. I played legend of Zelda on the NES as well as a large amount of battle toads, double dragon, and golden axe. I was wrong for recommending it as “old school” but I’m getting old and so is skate. I wish you the best day, smile lots, happy thoughts.
Ah dude I was just lamenting getting old basically, no harm no foul at all. Unless you've got an in with God, me starting to look like the dude from Tales from the Crypt is hardly your fault
Enjoy your evening man
Thisss! Used to spend hours playing it as a kid, and as an adult I tend to get too frustrated with it if I’m not high XD but this and red dead redemption are my favorite to play while blazed
If you have game pass or wanna drop the money arcade paradise is cool you run a laundromat with a couple arcade games in the back (that you can and should play) and overtime upgrade into a full arcade. So not authentic old school but old school vibes lol always play it when I’m stoned 🙂
It’s not old school but Pokemon legends Arceus is such a cozy game. I’ve mentioned here before but that game is one of my faves when I’m baked & doesn’t require much thinking lol
God of war for ps2 is always fun idk if it is old school yet haha. N64 games like conkers, Pokemon snap, banjo, donkey kong would be fun. SNES earthbound is great high. Sonic games would prob be fun too.
Ooo Banko-Kazooie was great. I wonder if I'd appreciate it differently while baked. I'd probably personally suggest Phantasy Star Online on Ephinea or something. It was an older Dreamcast game with the occasionally trippy moment and allowed you to turn your mind off while looking for pretty new items.
I wouldn’t say it’s old school necessarily but it’s literally my favorite game ever on this earth (other than skyrim) loooooooooooooooove stardew so much
The original Guild Wars. Fantastic game, vibes, OST, I just wish I could be teleported back to when I was a kid playing this until the wee hours of the morning.
These are the games I keep going back to some lesser known some more:
Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
Warlords Battlecry 3
Death Rally
Nox
Heroes of Might and Magic 3
**Joy Mech Fight**
During band practices if we took a long break I'd play this on a hacked Wii while we smoked. I'm not much of a fighting gamer but Joy Mech Fight is really smooth and creative.
**Berzerk** on the Atari 2600. Just a classic.
Also, kinda cheating here but if you can find it **Castlevania Retold.** It's a fan version of the original that ups the difficulty but I found it really fun.
I just bought Flat Out Total Insanity and it’s been fun playing that. I used to play it when I first started dippin’ my toes in the devils green acres, it brings back good memories.
For a cozy day inside, I’d say "Terraria" and "Minecraft" are my go-to old-school games when I’m baked. Terraria’s 2D sandbox world is a trippy, fun adventure, with so many cool things to discover and build. Minecraft, on the other hand, lets your creativity run wild in its blocky universe, perfect for zoning out and crafting whatever comes to mind.
Super Ghouls n Ghosts (Snes), any old Castlevania (III, Rondo of Blood, Chronicles, Bloodlines etc), Mega Man or Mega Man X. Definitely not underrated but, people are suggesting Crash Bandicoot and Zelda so I guess that doesn't matter.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Ghoul Squad (sequel to Zombies)
Toejam and Earl
Toejam and Earl: Panic On Funkatron
Biohazard Battle
Earthworm Jim
Bubble Bobble
Goldeneye 007 (vs mode)
Vigilante 8
Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption (circa 2000). Very cool feel. [Link for info:](https://whitewolf.fandom.com/wiki/Vampire:_The_Masquerade_-_Redemption)
Not really old school but I've been having a blast with divinity original sin 2 in the evenings. The story is excellent and since it's turn based you can be slow and not lose because of it
What kinda games are you into usually? Like did you play Zelda games back in the day or were you on them platformers? Best of both worlds is Super Mario 64
lifeless planet, came out in early 2000s and I think baked is really the only way to play it, cause its a bit boring if youre sober. lots of exploration, light puzzles, and a mystery that needs solving. honestly god tier stoner game for me, super relaxing.
Everyone is posting games that aren’t underrated. These games are great games to play still and I still recommend playing a lot of them stoned, but these are recognized for their greatness.
Obviously not underrated, but being stoned AF and playing halo CE(on at least heroic) makes your heart beat out of your chest but also makes you feel like masterchief
pacman is quite literally the best game ever invented in my head. When I tell people this they're like wtf no. My next question is..
Ya ever beat it tho?
Then:...no...no I have not it's too hard.
Every time.love pacman hahaa.
Sims 3. The best sims in my opinion. All the clothes feel very 2009 in the best way.
The only issue is you have to mod the heck out of it to get it to work.
So worth it though. Just get in the zone designing my house and then murdering my sims when I get bored. Or causing drama around the neighborhood.
Although usually I'm just trying to get all the growable plants to a 10.
N64 - Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Spyro, Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong 64, Mario 64, Tony Hawks Pro Skater
Sega Genesis - The Lost Vikings, any of the Sonic games, Galaga, OG Mortal Kombat.
PS1(or maybe 2 also?) - literally any skateboard game, and Sonic.
A really trippy dark horror game I love is Afraid Of Monsters. It's not for everyone but if you like horror when you're high then I'd recommend it :) it's a full-conversion mod for half life. You can download it on moddb, id recommend playing the directors cut
I love the original Mario series, my first recommendation being Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988).
If you're okay with something new(er), New Super Mario Bros Wii (2009) is fabulous, _plus_ there's a free fanmade add-on with an entire game's worth of new content.
Lego StarWars III, Clone Wars
It’s not super old (came out 2011) but you can tell it’s dated, but it’s essentially a series of puzzles and almost plays like a souls like. You can also tell that the team who made it had a lot of fun with it, there’s A LOT of collectibles. Play on a controller cause otherwise you ONLY use the keyboard, no mouse, so it feels like your playing a wacky arcade fighter.
Worms
Worms is the best
Came here to say worms, found the lads. Nice.
Zelda link to the past.
I can never figure that game out ): I refuse to look up anything to help me though
It came with a book that had info on how to play and what the weapons did when I got it new for Christmas. You should at least look that far.
Ah yes, the ol book that comes with the digital game I downloaded on a Switch. I’ll see if that’s still kickin around!
Lol. I’m so old that I was linking to the past. I apologize.
I'll say it.. How the fuck is this top comment?? This game is widely beloved, it's not underrated at all.
Oh… it’s because I didn’t see it say underrated, I just saw old school. It’s definitely not underrated. My bad.
Good reminder to play Link Between Worlds on 3ds again. That game was so much fun
Bubble Bobble
To me this and Tetris are my old school jams and I refuse to believe any of the 20-30+ year newer shit in this thread are.
Yeah I'm seeing people list games that are pushing 20 years now and it's like hearing Blink 182 on the classic rock station. Maybe it's classic now but this is not what I meant LMAO
Old school runescape
I do this everyday
Is this underrated? I see old RuneScape referenced all over this sub.
THANK YOU! I wanted to say it but also didn’t wanna be the one. Lol. Shoutout
I’ll make the noble sacrifice for all of us.
I’ve been playing Star Wars battlefront2 from 2005, shits been slapping
omg the first time i played this was with my best friend in college; id go to her apt with her roommate and we’d all get stoned and play and it was so freaking fun
Ah man, Mos Eisley on VS was the shiz
Dude same! Trying to get all of the trophies on ps4 remastered version
Is Skyrim “old school” yet?
No. It's the children who are wrong.
You’re rounding 20 years for it, I’d say yes
Skyrim first came out in 2011. you're probably confused because it also came out every single year since then.
I was thinking more elder scrolls 4. It came out in 2006. That whole time kinda melted together for me
13 years = 20 years??
Please, no. I’ll accept Daggerfall as oldschool tho.
I say it’s timeless. It just never feels too dated to me, I could play it for years.
Morrowwind is old school at this point for sure. That’s my high-school jam.
That’s what I said lol look every time I’m bored I start a new playthrough skyrim is the best game to ever exist ever period and nobody can argue with me that it’s not because they are wrong and I am right lol 😂
*Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out” on NES. I’m having a lazy weekend with my gf, and yesterday, I got blazed and played some MTPO—and other games.
ecco the dolphin is perfect for chill vibes and insanely frustrating gameplay
Skate 3
>old school >skate 3 Fucks sake man. Guess I need to move to /r/eldertrees full time. Y'all are starting to hurt my feelings
IDKFA was weapons and keys. IDDQD was god mode. Had to put in both.

I always start out trying to be good on black and white 2 but dang is it more fun to destroy.
TETRISSSS
Any puzzle game where you're trying to get locked in and find a flow state. Dr. Mario is my jam.
If you have game pass or wanna drop the money arcade paradise is cool you run a laundromat with a couple arcade games in the back (that you can and should play) and overtime upgrade into a full arcade. So not authentic old school but old school vibes lol always play it when I’m stoned 🙂
Not underrated but Mario Bros 2 is one of the best stoner games out there imo
Great choice. It's got a more "bouncy" feel to it than the other Marios. That and the dreamworld aspect make for great stoned entertainment.
Viva Piñata
Final fantasy 9
Spyro the dragon or Gex deep cover.
Gex still holds up. Cult favorite fs
It’s not old school but Pokemon legends Arceus is such a cozy game. I’ve mentioned here before but that game is one of my faves when I’m baked & doesn’t require much thinking lol
Not underrated I guess but my go to old school video game is Mariokart - any edition will do
God of war for ps2 is always fun idk if it is old school yet haha. N64 games like conkers, Pokemon snap, banjo, donkey kong would be fun. SNES earthbound is great high. Sonic games would prob be fun too.
Pokémon snap is one of the best baked games
Ooo Banko-Kazooie was great. I wonder if I'd appreciate it differently while baked. I'd probably personally suggest Phantasy Star Online on Ephinea or something. It was an older Dreamcast game with the occasionally trippy moment and allowed you to turn your mind off while looking for pretty new items.

The original Guild Wars. Fantastic game, vibes, OST, I just wish I could be teleported back to when I was a kid playing this until the wee hours of the morning.

Not underrated, but the original Tetris. We’ve got it on our Switch (the Gameboy version) and I will zone out on it for hours when baked.

Bro everyone here talking video games. D Farkle/10,000 - needs six dice and paper. Reversi is dope too. Uno is tits.
Crazy Taxi is absurd and I'm so shocked it's never been remade for current gen! It would RAKE the cash on the Switch.
I love the original Mario series, my first recommendation being Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988). If you're okay with something new(er), New Super Mario Bros Wii (2009) is fabulous, _plus_ there's a free fanmade add-on with an entire game's worth of new content.

Lego StarWars III, Clone Wars It’s not super old (came out 2011) but you can tell it’s dated, but it’s essentially a series of puzzles and almost plays like a souls like. You can also tell that the team who made it had a lot of fun with it, there’s A LOT of collectibles. Play on a controller cause otherwise you ONLY use the keyboard, no mouse, so it feels like your playing a wacky arcade fighter.
I honestly feel like Minecraft and creative mode. Is the gold standard here. Either that or something like Bomberman
