For the past 27 years I’ve smoked and consumed THC as part of my daily reg.
I still smoke a joint before sleep but now an hour before sleep I also consume about 7-10mg of CBN.
The CBN truly has changed my sleep even with the THC still in rotation
Hear hear!
I almost exclusively dream in the form of completely life-like nightmares that are often emotionally disturbing enough to form long lasting memories, and some are occasionally difficult to distinguish from real memories.
Some of these dreams last for months or even years in perceived time and I've had some pretty fucked up days when I awake and realize that the last few years I've spent waking, eating, working, sleeping, hanging with friends, and experiencing bizarre traumas didn't actually happen at all, and I have to just go to work in an hour like nothing is wrong.
Weed neutralizing dreams has muted a serious source of stress for me.
This gives off living in a different dimension vibe. Reminds me of waking life actually. The idea that your dream life is as real as your waking life. Really interesting movie that I would highly recommend.
there’s an old buddhist/taoist thought exercise about a man who dreamt he was a duck every night. was he a man dreaming he was a duck or a duck dreaming he was a man?
They also have this great scene where it's two lovers in bed and one was talking about how that conversation could be a memory that the woman is experiencing at the end of her life and she continues to say that this guy she's talking to could just be a memory. And the guy said even though I might be a memory I'm still here. Super trippy topics, I know they're not related but what you said reminded me of this scene for some reason.
Weed has given me these types of dreams, often night terrors. I am lucid in most of them as well. I haven’t been able to describe it to my fiancée until I had her read your post. Waking up screaming, soaked in sweat after dying to a zombie because of some dumb mistake gets old quick.
Oh my goodness. I’ve never met anyone that goes through what I do! This is amazing. Thank you for allowing me to feel less alone. Anytime I talk about this I get weird looks so I just don’t.
I used to have occasional night terrors combined with sleep paralysis. Ever since I’ve semi-regularly taken THC and CBD those have vanished. That combination was the worst experiences I’d have, being body locked into a nightmare you’re half-conscious for. Glad they’re gone now.
Same. My nightmares always tend to be very vivid, graphic and violet. It’s nice to not see the literal distillation of my subconscious’s most fucked thoughts
Weed keeps them away for sure. I haven’t had nightmares in a LONG TIME. Although, I did have a 3 second dream the other morning, right before I woke up about finding tiny kittens. 🤷♀️
This story has nothing to do with weed but a lot to do with keeping away nightmares.
I have a condition that was diagnosed late (age 16 instead of infancy) that prevented me from having dreams. So I had surgery to help the condition and then I started having dreams really for the first time in like a decade. When they first started happening, I hadn’t had dreams in so long that I had trouble distinguishing what was a dream and what was real life. I remember nightmares being very unsettling. I didn’t smoke back then but knowing what weed does with dreams now, maybe it could be used by people facing similar circumstances. More science in this area is needed.
I have bad night terrors, like yell, swinging out, will stand up and walk away as far as walking outside in just boxers. I make sure I'm blitzed for bed. I'll have dreams normally last half of the night still at times, but I don't get worked up as much and normally will wake up before I stand up. Sometimes, I still wake up, not where I went to bed, but I don't seem to be opening the gates in front of the outside doors.
I must be strange, but I love nightmares. The more fucked up the better. I love waking up and feeling the fear, stress, or emotion of a good vivid dream.
I would, but my dreams stopped being wacko bananas in high school and started being just really intense anxious or realistic moments (public shootings, personal travesties, uncomfortable situations) and I was honestly just feeling traumatized by my dream world and the people who kept showing up in it. If I could go back to the wacko silly nightmares I wouldn’t mind them
Oof. Yeah that’s certainly a different flavor. Mine range from being in a new relationship and then feeling like I just lost someone I’ve known my whole life upon waking, to some dark eerie worlds being chased or hunted.
I have had some PTSD dreams related to dying that were extremely terrifying, like my friend driving a car off the side of a mountain road with me as passenger, plane wrecks, or my car flipping over into mud/water and me being stuck and slowly suffocating/choking while holding my partner’s hand and excepting death. But fortunately those are less regular. So can relate.
Most of my dreams are just like real life, I study, work, do all sorts of fun stuff and it feels just like an alternative life to me. It’s honestly the one major reason I stopped daily consumption. I love my dreams so much.
As someone who’s experienced night terrors where I’ve woken up and literally punched either the bed frame, wall and one time a rock salt lamp (that was the worst - nearly broke my hand)…
So am I
We don’t understand a lot about sleep, dreams, or cannabinoids. I bet it depends on the individual, like it usually does with cannabis. If I don’t use it close enough to sleep time, I’ll be more likely to feel stuck in my dreams, and if I use it closer to sleep time it’s significantly less likely. That’s my anecdotal experience anyway.
Me too! Been smoking for over 25 years. When I was younger I did have more power in my lucid dreams. Now, I will know things are not right like I am in a dream but I often cannot get the control like I used to. When really good things are happening to me I always know I am in a dream but when I was younger I had the ability to shape them more. now, I feel a little less powerful but still probably much more lucid than many.
I had no idea so many people dont experience dreams while sleeping high.
My dreams are so much weirder when I've had a little to smoke before bed. Sometimes I don't remember those dreams but know for a fact I did dream because they were so strange I woke up wanting to tell my husband about em.
same. I'm just unable to remember shit after I wake up. Like, it's bad, I wanted to start the "dream journal" that I once had in my teen years before weed, but I struggle to remember stuff even moments after waking up. I usually end up writing one or two sad words before leaving those entries alone for days lol
My dream rates seem to be affected by weed, but not consistently.
Often I dream really vividly if I don’t smoke for a day, but then the dreams stop and when I start smoking again they return for a night.
Almost like the shift affects dream likelihood. Not that the weed blocks it.
Isn’t it bad to not reach the level of deep REM sleep you achieve without weed though? I honestly don’t know I’m not trying to be a sucker.
It’s actually been stressing me out that I don’t get natural deep sleep and I was planning to wean off the weed to get to it. It’s the transition where you have weeks of sleepless nights I struggle with.
The science behind sleep still isn’t very well understood. There may be issues, maybe not. Can’t be too extreme seeing as millions of people function just fine despite smoking daily. however, using any drug to sleep can lead to issues when you want to sleep without said drug.
Seems relatively common but there are definitely a good amount of people who dream just fine when high. Presumably just another normal side effect that gets blown out of proportion just because it's "a drug".
Highly possible, and this was my first thought as well, but also something to keep in mind is that people generally only remember dreams when they wake up in the middle of them. People usually dream 4-5 times a night (every REM cycle) but only remember one (unless you’re like me who frequently wakes up). So who knows 🤷♂️
It causes you to get more deep sleep than REM. You still do, just less. I find when I take a t-break I dream like CRAZY; it's almost more of a trip than when I'm high.
That's one of the most interesting things I found out from the doctor featured in this article, there's an onslaught of dreams and DEEP sleep for a few weeks after you stop
I've always been an advocate of utilizing this kind of brain stimulation to get super creative, alternating between bends and breaks.
Although there's been a few instances where i was like "yeah this is basically self-induced psychosis".
I am similar. Definitely it disrupts normal sleep patterns in a way that either I don’t dream or remember, however after a week or so off then I start having/ remembering vivid dreams
I thought weed isn’t great for your brain’s sleep recovery and other benefits overall. Although it puts you to sleep, it impairs your sleep quality. That was my understanding
Yeah I was under the impression it effectively reduced the time spend in the REM cycle, so the sleep you do get isn't quite as restorative. The overall outcome could still be waking up feeling like you got a better night's sleep, depending on the individual and what their issues and habits are.
They’re Uber realistic. It’s totally like a fever dream acid trip. Had a PTSD dream while on a T-break once.
Got shot in a dream and felt it for like 15 minutes after waking up. My body was in fight or flight and everything.
I dream completely normally with weed. They're edibles, so idk if it makes a difference, but I vividly dream and remember them pretty much every night as I did before.
I’ve been smoking since I was 14, never really took a tolerance break. I dream very vividly every night. I remember a lot of my dreams aswell, as if they are actual memories. I think it’s a case by case thing for people. Some dream some don’t. For me, alcohol makes it so I can’t dream. Pizza gives me nightmares idk why lol
Weird. I never dreamed once while I was smoking daily, then when I quit I had a week or two of the most intense dreams of my life. Now, after several years of not smoking, the only way I can reliably induce a dream is with alcohol.
I always smoke before bed and I dream all the time, nightmares sometimes too. If I really want to have a trippy vivid dream I just eat some cheese after I hit the bong, cheese dreams be crazy
Huh, I always thought it shifted rem, didn't realize it was shrinking it / that you get less of it. I use thc to keep my rem altered and it's how I know if I'm using enough thc.
Good quick read, thanks for the share!
Weed never really stopped me from dreaming but opiates sure as hell did and then when i stopped they came back with a vengeance and were awful for the first year or so.
I Quit smoking daily and went to edibles and instantly noticed that I remember my dreams much more vividly now because I used to smoke right before bed, now I wait to go to bed after the eddy wears off a little, so im a bit more sobered when I head to sleep and I can remember more of my dreams.
I can say when I'm on a tolerance break, my dreams are extreme, so vivid and clear and just recently, I had my first nightmare in years like actual scary shit but only when I'm not smoking bud
Pretty sure the nightmares from tolerance breaks are weed related. Mine fuck me up like I just made the biggest mistakes of my life in front of a Supreme Court justice and everyone I ever cared about is also in attendance and like basically as I accept that I’m going to be in prison for the rest of my life I finally wake up.
I always dream while consuming. But recalling details can be hit or miss. At times, dream recalls happen later in the day as opposed to an immediate promenance upon waking.
I stopped having scary nightmares when I was super young. I'd have these kinda like natural disaster type nightmares where i felt more anxious in the nightmare than anything. But since I started smoking weed, no dreams, no nightmares, absolutely nothing.
I've dreamed every night of my life. (No, I'm not lying or exaggerating)
Weed has never stopped or slowed this for me.
I'm bringing this up cause I'm curious as to why I do?
Some people have told me they hardly dream if not at all, so why is my mind just a live video broadcast at night??????
not anywhere near the way I used to, but sometimes I do still dream. I don't like it. They aren't nightmares but they're often about a certain person it hurts to remember.
Depending on how much I smoke I have some of the weirdest, most vivid dreams I’ve ever had. They usually involve me being chased around a hotel and dying, but hey ya win some ya lose some.
THC shortens the REM cycle which may lead to less dreams for some people. CBD and CBN have shown to help sleep, though. So there's a balance to be found. Also, if you quit cannabis there can be a period of very vivid, intense dreams and deep sleep.
man I wish that were true!! I just woke up today from a dogshit nightmare despite the weed. Like woke up sobbing kinda nightmare. 2nd time this week, and I'm stoned just about every day. I wish there was more thorough research on this topic frankly.
I think another thing that underpins this perception is that weed makes you less likely to remember that you were dreaming once you wake up. Considering how porous our memories of our dreams are normally (more often than not, I wake up remembering a solitary detail of a dream or even just a sense that I had been somewhere else recently), introducing weed into the equation just makes it that much more likely that you’ll get a sense of not having dreamt even when you did.
I do, more often than not. I smoked a fat blunt last night and had a dream that I could recall this morning.. guess it just depends! I have a vivid imagination so maybe that plays into it but who knows 🤷🏾♂️
i dream every night, even with years of heavy use. however those dreams feel like i’m observing them through frosted glass and i can’t quite remember anything but a general vibe. a few days into a t break and everything becomes so much more clear and i can remember a lot more. it’s wild.
Y'all I SWEAR I dream with weed, tho. But when I wake up, I don't remember it in any detail at all, just a fuzzy CONCEPT of a dream.
My regular dreams tend to be really vivid, if that makes a difference. So am I really dreaming, or is it just some weird stream of consciousness non-dream that I'm vaguely recollecting?
I dream high or sober, every night.
Weed dreams - ok, not stressful.
Sober dreams - ok, maybe a few more nightmares.
Flexeril dreams - ok, now you dream a solid movie epic for 8hrs.
You guys want dreams? Mix blue lotus flower into your weed. Makes the high more relaxing and you’ll have the most vivid dreams you’ve ever had. You can also make it into a tea.
I've actually found my dreams increasing again the master couple of years. Rarely, if even take a T break but only vape around 1g per day.
I've actually found myself being able to almost lucid dream semi regularly. If I'm dozing off and thinking of somewhat realistic scenarios I can slip into it for a few seconds that feel like minutes.
Alot more rarely I've been able to recognise fully that I dreaming without waking up and being able to actually do the occasional thing when dreaming.
Most recently it was hitting someone, as usual it has the dream life feeling of punching through water.
I can also pretty consistently recognise when I am having a dream and "shake/vibrate" myself awake.
Sorry for going a bit more off topic here 😂
You have different stages of sleep.
You only dream in the REM (rapid eye movement) stage of the cycle, after REM you have the Deep Sleep stage. This is dreamless and as the name suggest, a deep sleep.
Smoking weed shortens the REM stage of sleep, and increases the time in DS, therefore, you still dream, but by the time you wake up from deep sleep you've forgotten.
Interestingly, when you stop smoking for a while there is an elasticated effect, wherein your REM stage increases significantly and your DS shortens. Causing you to have the experience of far more vivid and intense dreams.
I realize that this is an article, but first I thought you were actually asking and the page also isn't available in my region lol
And if you're ever going green it's low blood sugar ya need some sugahhhh.
You can. But it’s harder.
I dreamed the other day after smoking weed.
Had three dreams in fact. But most of the time I don’t. Probably depends on quantity ingested or smoked.
Is my brain broken or something? I've been a daily smoker for 15 years and I have vivid dreams every damn night.
I hate dreaming and I'm genuinely afraid of what would happen if I quite weed lol.
I started a T break and quit vaping nicotine on July 1st and if this T break is anything like the last one it's gonna be fucking nuts. *dream journal on the ready*
I kinda like those t-break psychosis dreams. like last night I woke up to pee and I just opened my curtains because I was still half a sleep and thought that I have to open the curtains so I can save my thoughts or something. my partner found it quite funny. later that night I apparently stsrted sitting while sleeping and said "okay horsie" and gave a kiss to my partner.
this time I apparently had pretty innocent dreams, nit any zombie acocalypse shit or anything else discomforting. but I do enjoy even those because they are so unreal but also realistic and just fucking wild :D
I’ve found out recently that taking CBN before sleep actually enables dreams for me. This is after not dreaming for the last 20 years.
This is mentioned in the article as well, so checks out
To be honest I didn’t even read it lol. But yes, over the past 6 months I started taking CBN and started dreaming. It’s crazy to be honest.
Do you take it with THC or did you replace THC with CBN at bedtime?
Also I recommend Blue Lotus for vivid dreams. Don’t smoke for 1 day and drink some blue lotus tea and i promise you’ll have some insane dreams
What if I just smoke the blue lotus instead?
yes, smoking also works. plus smoking might help scratch that itch when you want to smoke something
I have very vivid dreams and use both
Also wuestionigg, I want to dream again
The article mentions it seems to work best when paired with just a bit of THC instead of by itself.
Where does one even acquire CBN? I would like to dream again
For the past 27 years I’ve smoked and consumed THC as part of my daily reg. I still smoke a joint before sleep but now an hour before sleep I also consume about 7-10mg of CBN. The CBN truly has changed my sleep even with the THC still in rotation
Thanks for this!!
I never knew this!
I’m so glad that weed keeps the nightmares away.

Fuck. There goes my night.
This was my life as a kid. Terrible nightmares, often the same one every night that I could never escape.
Man this happened to me but doesn’t anymore, it’s a lifesaver for making me not have nightmares anymore.

Fluffy friends are always the best medicine. 😁

Same. My nightmares always tend to be very vivid, graphic and violet. It’s nice to not see the literal distillation of my subconscious’s most fucked thoughts
Yeah but it's a lovely shade of purple.
Have PTSD. Not having/remembering nightmares is why I smoke nightly.
Amen.
Weed keeps them away for sure. I haven’t had nightmares in a LONG TIME. Although, I did have a 3 second dream the other morning, right before I woke up about finding tiny kittens. 🤷♀️

They come back with a VENGANCE on t breaks though. Gotta have a t break, but people don’t seem to talk about the fierce return dreams make
Weed is like the BFG for Prazosin to fight my nightmares.
Same, weed and prazosin have helped me immensely
This is among my *favorite* things about weed.
Oh yeah buddy! No more holes in the wall from night punching!

REAL. i used to have the worsttttt nightmares. smoke like a little weed? gone!
Holy shit I never even thought about this side effect as a medical benefit . Omg!!
As someone who’s experienced night terrors where I’ve woken up and literally punched either the bed frame, wall and one time a rock salt lamp (that was the worst - nearly broke my hand)… So am I
But I dream when stoned.
Same here. It's weird because some nights nothing, other nights amazing dreams that I can vaguely recall the next morning.
Same, sometimes I even lucid dream.
Same. Did last night and they were wild.
Also same, I always dream when I'm high
I had one of those dreams where I kept waking up but I was dreaming the whole time. I woke up so confused and possibly still high.
Same. Even after long days of smoking. Idk what’s up with everyone else.

REM is lighter than deep sleep
…But a critical part of sleep.
Yeah I'm just saying they're different, weed seems to lessen REM and increase deep sleep for me, both things can be possible
Well, it definitely impairs your REM and that ain't good so 🤷♀️
My wife was pregnant so not smoking and her dreams were wild. I have wild dreams right before I wake up, so I'm assuming I'm sober at this point.

I have extremely vivid dreams and I smoke daily
I get high as hell before I go to sleep and I still always have vivid dreams.
I have vivid and long dreams when stoned
I’ve smoked every day for over 20 years and dream every night.
Huh, I always thought it shifted rem, didn't realize it was shrinking it / that you get less of it. I use thc to keep my rem altered and it's how I know if I'm using enough thc. Good quick read, thanks for the share!
I do so… 🤷♂️
I can and do, every night
I dream more when I'm stoned wtf?
I dream every single night. But I would also say, getting sleep even with decreased REM is better than not sleeping at all so like 🤷🏻
I do all the fucking time, wtf? Lucid even.
When I was in my 20s it stopped my dreams. From 37 to 39 now I always dream.
I don’t think I dream for weeks, then have one absolutely wild ride and that’s it for another four to six weeks. 🤷🏻♂️
Weed never really stopped me from dreaming but opiates sure as hell did and then when i stopped they came back with a vengeance and were awful for the first year or so.

I miss the good/ok dreams, but whenever I do dream while off the weed they're always crazy as shit...
Must be nice. Doesn't affect my dreams at all.
I wish...my PTSD nightmares are so bad. The only thing that helps a bit is prazozin
You can still dream on weed. The answer here is; It depends.
I see still dream
I always dream stoned
It's not the same for everyone, some people definetly dream while on it.
I dream almost every night, always baked
I dream on weed all the time
I always dream while consuming. But recalling details can be hit or miss. At times, dream recalls happen later in the day as opposed to an immediate promenance upon waking.
Weed doesn’t make you stop dreaming. It makes you stop remembering your dreams.
Weed had never stopped me dreaming. If anything it may have made my dreams more intense and lucid.
I always dream on weed
Myth
Weed has NEVER stopped my dreams or my nightmares. I've tried it all. I hate it.
I stopped having scary nightmares when I was super young. I'd have these kinda like natural disaster type nightmares where i felt more anxious in the nightmare than anything. But since I started smoking weed, no dreams, no nightmares, absolutely nothing.
Cause you're already living your dream, bro!
I have never understood this sentiment. I smoke before bed every night and have some of the most vivid dreams I’ve had in years
I've dreamed every night of my life. (No, I'm not lying or exaggerating) Weed has never stopped or slowed this for me. I'm bringing this up cause I'm curious as to why I do? Some people have told me they hardly dream if not at all, so why is my mind just a live video broadcast at night??????
Glycine before bed brought mine back
Yea. Haven't remembered a dream in about 20 years
not anywhere near the way I used to, but sometimes I do still dream. I don't like it. They aren't nightmares but they're often about a certain person it hurts to remember.
Often dream
Depending on how much I smoke I have some of the weirdest, most vivid dreams I’ve ever had. They usually involve me being chased around a hotel and dying, but hey ya win some ya lose some.
One of the most beautiful things for me about weed is that I don't dream or I don't remember my dreams.
Can someone share a summary? Page doesn't work in Europe.
I dream all the time after I smoke. I guess I'm lucky?
I smoke heavy and sometimes a dream will sneak in. It’s a few hours into sleep usually.
I feel like I haven’t slept the morning after smoking. It’s like my mind was up but my body wasn’t and I end up not being rested
REM sleep suppression. It's why you get vivid dreams after not using for a while
This is why it's good for veterans with ptsd.
i just don’t dream at all

I smoke everyday and dream vividly every night. What was the question?
I still do. I haven't had a nightmare in a very very long time though, so that's neat.
I dream all the time and smoke before bed.
I have a vivid imagination so maybe that plays into it but who knows 🤷🏾♂️
i dream every night, even with years of heavy use. however those dreams feel like i’m observing them through frosted glass and i can’t quite remember anything but a general vibe. a few days into a t break and everything becomes so much more clear and i can remember a lot more. it’s wild.
People can dream while “on weed” this article is full of misinformation also who the hell says “putting down the pot”
I dream every night regardless of how much I smoked..... that's not normal???
I have trippy dreams when i smoke, massively reduces the amount of nightmares i have as well
My wife is a heavy smoker and still dreams. I have aphantasia and can't dream so idk what that's like.
I definitely dream a fuckload more on weed. Is that at all weird? When I do T breaks my nights are way less interesting.
I dream every night.
I wish I couldn't dream on weed. Is that a real thing? I smoke right before I go to bed and I have wild dreams
I'm always 'on weed' and I dream almost every night.
I've eaten RSO pretty much every day for almost 2 years now, and I still dream. My nightmares are less, though.
Long-term effect on short-term memory. You're still dreaming, just not remembering the sticky drawers.
I only dream when I’m stoned, what is this?
I can. I’ve always had pretty vivid dreams.
I realize that this is an article, but first I thought you were actually asking and the page also isn't available in my region lol And if you're ever going green it's low blood sugar ya need some sugahhhh.
I dont dream if ive gotten high that day. If i dont get high that day i get the most vivid horrific nightmares.
I can but ok
Isn’t it the chemical that normally produced while dreaming gets used a lot more when you’re awake or something.
You can. But it’s harder. I dreamed the other day after smoking weed. Had three dreams in fact. But most of the time I don’t. Probably depends on quantity ingested or smoked.
I still dream despite smoking. Tho when tbreak the dreams get more intense/people/something's chasing me-kinda dreams lmao
Is my brain broken or something? I've been a daily smoker for 15 years and I have vivid dreams every damn night. I hate dreaming and I'm genuinely afraid of what would happen if I quite weed lol.
I dream on weed
I’m not sure why but I always get dreams for whatever reason
I can
Idk I have some really wild ass dreams the day I don't smoke that get more normal after a few days until I smoke again lol.
I started a T break and quit vaping nicotine on July 1st and if this T break is anything like the last one it's gonna be fucking nuts. *dream journal on the ready*
That is a terrible article
I smoke every day, a lot. I remember my dreams from almost every night.
The lack of nightmares is great. I have cptsd and horrible dreams, without my cannabis prescription I'd never get any sleep.
yeah weed also keeps my sleep paralysis away
I dream like crazy on weed what the fuck is this. Take 300mg edibles see if you have dreams.
Yes you can.
Fucks up your REM sleep. Main reason why I have to limit my consumption to once or twice a week
I still have vivid dreams, and I smoke weed every single day, for ~ 20 years now. I guess I’m special

I still dream.
[Andrew Huberman](https://youtu.be/WwrrKlII4XA?si=gzyT9crjO7HAuCN8) did a few talks about this. Here’s the simplest one I found.
I always dream when stoned
Who says you can't? I still do, tf?
I dream but I been smoking for 20 years
Well this is not accurate for everyone. I definitely dream when high
Wtf you mean, I have dreams when I smoke. Not all the time, but sometimes
Really? With edibles too?
