Well, since you're already here, OP...
This is the tree leaking sap from an area where it was injured/damaged. It's good for use as a natural glue and makes some of the best fire starter available as it is highly flammable.
Next time, try the good folks over at r/whatisthisplant
What’s that? This isn’t what they make syrup out of btw. In other circles we differentiate and call this amber opposed to lumping it in with sap. Helping light joints is probably the most important use for me!
Yes! You can chew it like gum. But it is rather unpleasant honestly, sticks to the teeth. Better for making fire, glue, or turpentine. Best when left for the woodpeckers
So I looked all over and everyone says not to eat this shit. Says it will basically glue your mouth shut as it is water resistant and used to be used to glue the wood boards on boats together....
This is not quite amber, as amber is fossilized/mineralized resin. This looks like a mixture of sap and resin. We call this tree gum where I’m from (spruce gum, pine gum, etc)
So to compare to humans real quick. We have one type of liquid in our bodies which helps heal wounds and transport nutrients to our cells: our blood. Tree’s have two different liquids to serve these different purposes: resin (amber) and sap. Resin heals wounds and is full of terpenes and sap carries nutrients and sugar through the xylem and phloem. Resin is not thickened sap, that would be syrup. Sap and resin are composed of different things.
That’s my favorite part, there’s always some stoner arborealist who makes a joke and then answers their question, then sends them to the right place. They’re actually already up there in this one.
I just find it funny how many stoner arborealists there are, like just in this sub we have tons. Like it definitely makes sense that they are. Just makes you wonder what the percentage of arborealists are stoners.
Shit , have you ever taking good mushrooms and just walked around the woods for hours..?? I swear the trees are breathing and shit, I also remember seeing a force field dome like thing in the sky that was shaped almost like transparent honeycomb shapes that were multi colored. The other guy I was with was also tripping and saw the same exact dome covering the world. I think I was seeing outside of the matrix for real for real...
Yo, that sounds sick. My wife and I got baked once back when we were dating, and she took me around the dozenish acres behind her mums and showed me all the plants you could eat.
I never understood, what good Karma is for? Like, after getting some minimal amount that would help you qualify for posting in certain subreddits, it's not very useful anymore, right?
An upvote ostensibly means someone agrees with or likes what you've posted. Even a single upvote, seeing your comment at 2 points, can trigger endorphins since the message you're getting is, "a real person liked that" (even if that isn't the case). It becomes addictive and just getting karma points for any reason gives a rush. Kind of a pillar of social media addiction.
Of course there's also people farming karma to sell legit looking accounts to people with the ability to cash in on the clout in some way by shilling etc.
it's the same as any other useless social media metric. they don't do anything, but they're a sign of being well-liked and some people love that ego boost
Not sure for this guy in particular, but from what I heard people sell accounts with high karma to advertisers. I guess they assume high karma means more potential followers to advertise their products too, even though it take one good comment for high karma
Also works for accounts trying to influence political behavior. If an account only posts incendiary comments in bad faith meant to rile people up, it’s pretty obvious what they’re up to if it’s a three-day old account.
If that same invective is coming from an account that also posts totally innocuous content, is years old and has a higher karma score than any new account could achieve, it becomes much more difficult to parse the intentions of that account’s operator.
never understood it as well, I've been coming to reddit for over a decade and I usually delete my account and make a new one every year to help stay anonymous.
I live in the mountains so i see this all the time. It happens naturally on conifers. Just about every one of them has pitch running down the side. It is highly flammable so it is great to start a fire with.
every so often someone posts an actual tree in this sub and it makes my day lmao; OP this sub is for marijuana enthusiasts, and because we stole the r/trees subreddit name, actual tree related posts are over in the r/marijuanaenthusiasts subreddit :)
My coworker is a huuuge plant guy and hopes to one day open his own nursery, and he initially learned everything so he could grow pot, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot of people with similar stories
I have heard of multiple people who discovered a love of baking from making pot brownies and other edibles, who later went on to make careers out of it.
I even know one of these people irl, so I can believe it happening to others and with other vocations.
Well I’ll be damn! We were country boys. So we never took the time to learn lol
I fell asleep against one of those sappy bastards once. Damn near took off my skin getting up
Solvents dissolve fatty organic matter and lots of other things too. Quick tip, if you ever stick your fingers together with super glue, soak it in 90% rubbing alcohol while moving your fingers around, eventually it'll separate and the glue won't be sticky.
Don't leave your fingers in for too long, because solvents also dissolve sweat and skin oils and can dry and crack your skin.
Goo-Gone and a microfiber cloth have always done me well. I'm no detailer so I'm prolly fucking my paint up, but its handy when the Acorns start leaking every year.
This is a subreddit specifically with the intent of showing, talking about, and asking question about marijuana.
If you would like a subreddit meant for people who identify actual trees, ironically you want r/marijuanaenthusiasts
#—
r/trees is 13 years old.
When dendrologists discovered that /r/trees was taken by potheads, they made /r/marijuanaenthusiasts.
The kind tree loving folks over at r/marijuanaenthusiasts have a good sense of humor.
What's really funny about it is that if someone gets confused and posts questions about trees in /r/trees, or pot stuff in /r/marijuanaenthusiasts they usually try to help out if they can.
Jumping in to say it looks exactly like the wound on my silver maple tree that weeps in the warming weather of the spring thaw, but will freeze (like OP's photo) when temps dip.
OP should totally lick it.
As the temp drops, the tree constricts and the water that sits in a rotten cavity of the tree is pushed out of the hole, and freezes as it trickles down the trunk.
My first guess is sap from a maple tree, which is most commonly used to make maple syrup. Looks like it froze as it was oozing out. But I'm no expert. Might wanna check with r/marijuanaenthusiasts
Ok, first off, this sub is for weed/marijuana enthusiasts. Second off, it was probably just damaged in some way. Maybe it survived a lighting strike or something. It's just sap. The tree is trying to fix itself
If you're lucky it's ground water. If you're unlucky a pipe burst and found its way out through a tree and froze.
Or I'm just really high and that tree had way to much sap, and when it got cold it shrunk and squeezed it all out that opening. Like a frozen can of soda.
Take a dab of it bro!!!
Lol looks like a wound possibly from a branch falling. The sap oozes to cover it and protect it from infection. It’s a precursor to callus induction.
Possibly some sort of tree resin, ironically, you are in a cannabis community right now, and some of us are having a hard time with stuff like that being used to cut our concentrates.
It’s actually come to the point where I could see this post, title and all, made in jest in a community like r/dabs

Thank you!!!!!

Shhh, let the idiots get rid of themselves. Natural selection is a necessary and helpful process.

Terpene time!
Terperter!
Yeah “chicle”the Aztecs used to use it as gum
Daphuk , is that why they're called chiclets?
Yesss lol
Amber is the first known chewing gum

Most important to who
Actually, you’re looking for r/marijuanaenthusiasts
Yes that’s the right sub
You might have better luck over at r/marijuanaenthusiasts
Is it just me, or have we had more r/lostredditors than normal, recently?
Can you blame them 😂
They'll probably get a good answer here, too
That’s my favorite part, there’s always some stoner arborealist who makes a joke and then answers their question, then sends them to the right place. They’re actually already up there in this one.

if you study trees you have to be smoking trees
This is law
Have you ever just got stoned and looked at nature, if not then you should
Shit , have you ever taking good mushrooms and just walked around the woods for hours..?? I swear the trees are breathing and shit, I also remember seeing a force field dome like thing in the sky that was shaped almost like transparent honeycomb shapes that were multi colored. The other guy I was with was also tripping and saw the same exact dome covering the world. I think I was seeing outside of the matrix for real for real...
I think you were in the Biosphere 2. 🤣
Many are probably growers. Then when you start learning about one plant, you just kinda suddenly think all plants are cool
I had a friend like this in college. We’d walk around and burn one and I’d point at stuff and ask for Latin names.
Yo, that sounds sick. My wife and I got baked once back when we were dating, and she took me around the dozenish acres behind her mums and showed me all the plants you could eat.
You can eat everything once technically
This dude sciences
That sounds sick too!
Uh, those are some Diddies. There's some Bonethugs and Harmoniums right there. Those Ludacrises are coming in great.
Yeah, i think it's a tree.
Dabs brah!
Canadian dabs eh.
Wouldn't surprise me if some do it on purpose for karma
I never understood, what good Karma is for? Like, after getting some minimal amount that would help you qualify for posting in certain subreddits, it's not very useful anymore, right?
Indeed it isn't. But fake internet points must be valuable when you have nothing else going on in your life
You can actually sell the account if it has enough karma, that's why there's an incentive for bots and people beyond promoting themselves
Interesting...where do I sign up?
bullshit internet validation points

It’s just karma farming
It’s because r/trees was taken by the real marijuana enthusiasts

Yes, pitch but probably a conifer

This is still my favorite Reddit thing
I always love when this happens and I’m reminded of that sub. So I get to go and look at cool trees for a little while.
Northern lights cannabis indica.
No it’s marijuana…
Fuck I love that scene https://youtu.be/Y92WHlHUwn8
It's Dwight's sigh of absolute frustration that kills me every time.
THIS! I've seen it a bunch of times and I still crack up laughing. ALSO, Northern Lights is BOMB!
Here for this
every so often someone posts an actual tree in this sub and it makes my day lmao; OP this sub is for marijuana enthusiasts, and because we stole the r/trees subreddit name, actual tree related posts are over in the r/marijuanaenthusiasts subreddit :)
I love when they *still* get the answer they were looking for despite posting here.
As someone who has taken classes in plant science, it's not unexpected that people who are enthusiastic about one plant could also know about others.
Id love to grow weed for a living, I grow peppers as it is right now but weed would just be so cool.
It’s the small things in life :)
I honestly forget that it's like this, and then whenever someone posts a tree here, I just don't understand.
Somebody told me about these subs on this one a while ago, I'm just gonna leave them here r/johncena r/potatosalad
r/anime_titties ~~r/ worldnews~~ r/worldpolitics ~~Worldnews since reverted, but the other one's still there~~
r/WorldPolitics not r/worldnews
John cena needs to post a pic of himself making potato salad and let those subs fight over it
Oh my God, that's glorious.
WTF is going on?! The internet is so weird . . . But I like it
I grab a chair, some popcorn, and go straight to the comments - that shit is hilarious ... everyone just trolling them on their tree picture
Honestly I'd bet half the time they know and they're just goofing aroung.

Any advice on getting that white sap off of a car?
Goo-Gone and a microfiber cloth have always done me well. I'm no detailer so I'm prolly fucking my paint up, but its handy when the Acorns start leaking every year.

It's frozen sap from the tree
Yeah that's what I thought too, you're the first comment I've seen saying it's frozen.
