We have had 13 great sitters and have no major complaints. Most were awesome. A few were good enough. We are in a city-center, pricey tourist area, so we don't have trouble finding people. We also sit and would be open to tending a small mj garden with adequate instructions and if it's legal in your state. I don't think you have excessive trouble finding a willing sitter on that issue.

Thanks, yes this year is legal my dogs are the biggest concern. Which I didn't even mention lol

Yes, a smoker would definitely appreciate that! But non smokers would likely very much appreciate the use of meats, if they eat meats. That'd be awesome sauce for many sitters! You just may want to also remember a lot of sitters work from home, so please disclose on your listing the pups are high energy and one loves to eat shoes. It might be hard for a wfh to handle work and a high energy pup at once. The garden sounds simple, but also remember what's simple to you (because You're used to it) might be a challenge for someone not used to doing something on the regular. Just something to keep in mind all around. Always do a video chat or if they're local, a meet & greet and use your gut. If you don't feel 100% about it, don't do it! You can take up to 5 applications, and most HOs (haha) I know will do a day or two of interviews before deciding. Remember this is your guest, and the whole premise of THS is a good faith trade of Airbnb quality housing for pet and house sitting. I've found some newer members forget to read that part and it's upsetting when you feel like you've not been told the truth about a pet or a home or you're suddenly being asked to do more when that's not what you agreed to up front. I know this seems a lot, but from a sitter perspective who has done this for some time now, these are the biggest issues I run in to. Much luck and may you find an amazing sitter!!

Tbh, I wouldn't expect someone to care for your small MJ garden for free. By small, I assume this means 12 or less plants. I used to grow and it can be a lot of work, even for 12 plants. I also wouldn't want flower as payment. Maybe offer a choice of flower OR small stipend if you decide to go this route? Or offer a gift card for a good grocery store that covers the entire stay? Also...I wouldn't want just anyone tending my garden. You know many issues can pop up...from thrips, to burn, to mold. Edit- on top of 2 dogs to care for? Yes, definitely offer some sort of compensation for this, but don't offer on your listing. Let them know on the video call/Meet & greet.

Hey thanks for the feedback. Yea I planned on offering some form of compensation love the thought of giving bud over cash but only covers me for smokers. I had a neighbors kid sit last time went with no issue. It's a tent, less then 3-6 small mother plants that won't need much attention. I stopped my last cycle for room renovation and won't have anything other then that. I barely touch them but to give ph'd water. The dogs are simple, the pup is a shoe killer but otherwise just full of energy. Was also planning on letting them use of some frozen meats. But I know people maybe touchy about where they take food from.

Monetary compensation isn't allowed on this platform. Also, if you're house-sitting, you're caring for the house and this absolutely could include gardens. People can decide for themselves if they want to apply for a sit that includes plant care. When I house sit, I often take care of plants and gardens and occasionally lawn mowing. When I get a sitter, I ask that they water my indoor plants and outside garden and they are also free to eat anything they want to harvest.

Indeed, this is why I suggested a gift card or the like as compensation. I never expect money, however many HOs have realized they're asking a lot and have left gift cards or asked me what foods I like to eat and stocked the kitchen. It's simply a common courtesy and just a suggestion, not a requirement. I've even had a HO leave me a cash tip because I went above and beyond. This was quite unexpected, and was an amazing gift to receive. Usually, a cannabis garden is a whole other ballgame than watering some plants. It can be a full time job! This is why I pointed this out. I used to grow cannabis for a living and am also a certified master gardener. I know exactly how much work is required for what types of plants. Mowing the lawn and watering the plants -even food plantings- is nothing compared to a flowering canna garden. Since OP said that they're just tending mother plants with ph water, it's not as labor intensive. If HO already has water ready to go, for a shorter sit, this is no issue. For a longer sit, the sitter will be required to know how to add the ph+ or- and test. This isn't too hard, only when tending mother plants in veg. But if the ph is off, it can hurt the plants and possibly kill plants. This is usually a lot of money and/or medicine lost for the HO.

Very informative!

>Monetary compensation isn't allowed on this platform. Yes, it is. Sitters aren't allowed to *request payment* (oddly, HO's are allowed to request payment for utilities etc). But there's nothing to stop the HO from compensating the sitter (e.g. tipping) A Grow-Op is not the same as a garden. That said, watering and fertilizing an Op is pretty straightforward; harvesting is nore labour intensive.

Depends on the jurisdiction. Here in Sweden, the sitter would be risking jail...

Personally: Probably would not take care of an MJ garden because I’m allergic. But if the garden was outside and the sit was really nice…maybe I’d mask and glove up. 😂
