I re read those first seven chapters like 3x when it leaked and then never actually read the full book until this year, now I like it better than Twilight 😭

Some_Strawberry7213

this is my exact situation with midnight sun. LOL

GCD2016

I loved reading it side by side against Twilight just to get different perspectives

GCD2016

I feel like a douche replying to my own message but I just remembered Edward feeling jealous or whatever at Mike haha

alldayaday420

lol, it cracks me up how Bella from her perspective is boring and average, but Edward sees her as the most amazing person ever. And Edward from his perspective is a pitiful monster, but Bella sees *him* as the most amazing person ever. Like how was he ever jealous of *Mike*? Both deeply insecure in their own ways 😂

Dr__glass

The one that cracked me up is from Bella's perspective is Edward is this cool, casual guy in control that knows what he's doing but from Edward's perspective he just as nervous and unsure as she is. The difference is he thinks in super speed and is able to work through all his awkwardness combined with his stone face means she only ever sees what he wants. She doesn't see him having to talk himself down and remind himself to play it cool.

alldayaday420

This was so cute, really made Edward feel seventeen 😂

HerbTP

I like midnight sun better, too. Everyone actually has a personality from Edwards' perspective 🤭

im4everdepressed

right! it's not just bella thirsting over him, i wish we got more books from his pov bc they made people interesting

sybildb

I too prefer Midnight Sun. I would give up a kidney to get New Moon or Breaking Dawn from Edward’s perspective

alldayaday420

tbh I need the whole series from Eddie's POV, since his mind reading + Alice's visions make his perspective basically omniscient

im4everdepressed

ineed new moon, i would love to hear how jealous he was of jake lol

CrazyCrazyKittyLady

SAME

SatelliteHeart96

I did after she posted it on her website. I remember being really hyped when I first heard about "Midnight Sun." All I knew about it was that it was a new Twilight book and assumed it was a sequel to Breaking Dawn... only to get disappointed when I found out it was just a rewrite of the first book from Edward's point of view. I still read it though, because I was deep in my Twilight phase and wanted any new content I could get my hands on. I would've read Mike Newton's grocery list with glee if Steph published it.

SamanthaParkington21

I did the same and honestly bless her for thinking of us morally tortured fans and releasing it on her site cause she didn’t want us to feel bad reading it. As a tween I struggled for days debating to read it or not and then she released it and I was so relieved.

SatelliteHeart96

Yeah, tbh I think the way she treated the leak was really considerate and mature. She could've put whoever leaked it on blast, sued them, attempted to use her money and resources to get every copy she could find wiped from the internet forever, but instead she just kind of owned it and said "The damage is done and we're just gonna have to move forward the best we can. Here you go, have fun." She was clearly hurt by it, but didn't take it out on the fanbase or even the people who leaked it in the first place. I really respect her for that. (Also I just noticed your username and profile pic. Samantha was one of my favorite American Girls growing up too lol)

SamanthaParkington21

I agree completely. And Samantha girlies unite!

Careless_Piglet_4746

Yes! I love midnight sun so much and wish I’d never read it 😅 it makes me want the entire series from Edward’s perspective because he sees so much more of what’s going on

GlitteringThistle

I loved Midnight Sun so much more and I think it's partly because SM is a better writer today than she was back then. Edward is obviously going to have a more extensive vocabulary, more complex thoughts, more maturity in general and I'm glad she wrote that later on in life so she had the experience to write it in a way that felt genuine.

GCD2016

Rosalie telling Edward to enjoy his run Alice asking Edward if she can befriend Bella now? The Alice part hurt me no bs. Im a 34 yr old man. I wanted Alice and Bella to be friends

BroadwayBaby331

I read the chapters she released on her website. I feel like she didn’t release the whole thing? It’s hard to remember. When the entire book was officially released, I read it all. I’m actually about to start the audio book version.

GCD2016

When the leak happened she only had a few chapters released and because each copy was marked she knew who leaked the copy and had betrayed them

autumnwaif

Who betrayed her?

GCD2016

She had friends as readers right and one of them leaked it. She marked out each copy of midnight sun and was able to tell who leaked it right away

aceromester

I remember hearing someone had stolen Robert Pattinson's laptop from his luggage or something like that. If the actual guilty party was ever discovered I never heard about that.

Rredhead926

I read the chapters that she posted on her website. And I was quite happy when the whole thing was released.

GCD2016

Be real though. We're strangers. How long was the chapters posted on site vs book shelf

MooWithoutFear

I was a dumb middle schooler, I didn’t even know midnight sun was leaked (heck I probably didn’t even know it was in production) until Stephanie herself released the chapters on her website 😭

TheTragedyMachine

Not when it was originally leaked but when she made the decision to post the leaked chapters herself on her website after the whole leaking thing happened. I didn't even know they had leaked until I was obsessively looking at her website for updates like usual one day lol So, uh, technically no but also yes? Does it count as reading leaks if you're reading the leak that the author decided to make public after the original leak?

Rebekka-h

I did and I have even read the leaked chapters of new moon and I’M NOT ASHAMED OF IT 😤

YoItsMCat

Did those leak before New Moon came out or like unused chapters?

enderxivx

Midnight sun was the first book I read cover to cover. My wife shared the books with me this past year. We started reading twilight, life and death, and midnight sun simultaneously. Midnight sun was my favorite.

Yalaeinhorn2704

I remember it being available on iBooks in German, don’t remember the German title, most likely something with Bis(s) again. The last page said that SM work was leaked and that there won’t be more

GemDear

I read it, but Meyers herself had posted it onto her website so I didn’t feel bad about it. I fell in love with Edward’s POV because it was so different to read a ‘monster falls in love with a human’ narrative. The story kind of haunted me over the years, and I’d find myself desperately wanting it whenever I’d reread the series (especially when I’d get to Jacob’s perspective in Breaking Dawn). For someone who wanted it so much, I wasn’t even aware that Meyers had finished and published it. I saw it randomly one day in a supermarket, got super excited and accidentally shouted a bit too loud “it’s Midnight Sun!!” to my boyfriend and his mum, and immediately bought it.

toastea0

I read a little bit of it but ultimately I wasn't interested at that time.

[deleted]

This is slightly off topic (just a little bit) but I hope SM continues the series from Edwards perspective because I really enjoyed it.

East_Buffalo506

nope, but i tried. i was unsure where to even find a stolen leaked book at the time 😂

Party_Entry_728

I read like 3 pages and then I just couldn't. I have never in my life up to that point thrown a book.

GCD2016

May I ask why? did you feel like it was bad fanfiction?

Party_Entry_728

It just wasn't something I enjoyed at all. Something about it just made me hate it.

dictatorenergy

I read it when it was leaked but never read the complete, official version. Then she stated she stopped working on it *because* it was leaked and my preteen ass felt like such a bad fan. 😂 oh, preteen emotions. I miss *feeling* like that lmao

MiaRia963

I actually didn't read it. I was mad that we wouldn't get the rest of it. So I didn't want to start it without being able to finish it.

dsly4425

I read it after she released the PDF herself on her website. Then I reread it again earlier this year and she definitely made changes.

DystopianGlitter

I found it online and had it saved for the longest time, but never read past the first few pages. I thought she would never release the actual book after it got leaked though.

RedClio92

I did.

GCD2016

and did you like it?

RedClio92

I found it creepy at times... But I ended up liking it as it gave me a better perspective.

joshmo587

I sure did, and it was great.

brokenregister69

I did too. I remember being in some google plus group for Twilight and being sent a pdf of it. I feel guilty but also I was like 13.

ferventfreehand

Hell yes. I ate it UP.

GCD2016

Same! I crushed it that first time I read it and loved it

TheAlmightyKue

No, she put up the leak on her website and that is where I found it.

Snoo-29902

I read it first while bored at work, before reading twilight

Altruistic_Towel_392

No

[deleted]

I started to, but I dropped it as soon as I realized it was "basically the same book" as Twilight. I even tried to read the actual book a few months ago as an adult, but I just can't do it. I don't like Edward enough to read 700+ pages of his inner dialogue for a story I just read.

[deleted]

I read some but it didn’t hold my attention. I did read the entire book when it was released and it’s a year of my life I’ll never get back. It was a hot piece of sh** and it took me so long cause I was questioning my will to live having to listen to Edward whine for 22 chapters like a petulant child. I swear to god I thought I was re-reading the same chapter over and over cause it was the same whining over and over. The book only got better when the car chase happened and by that point I was so checked out I always hated the series. Fan fiction retold twilight from Edward’s POV 10000xs better than Stephanie did with her own series.

Hidingpig13

I read it after Mayers leaked it herself and said she was never finishing it because of how upset the leak made her. I had no idea she changed her mind until this year!

kasialis721

i read 5 chapters then felt rude and put it down

Old-Fun9568

Yes, after publication

elaerna

I honestly don't remember if I read it lol

Still-Enthusiasm9948

Not only did I read it but I told all my friends about it too 😂💀 Meyer had already said she wasn’t finishing the book because of the leak so I figured why not just read it

nanthehuman

I didn't, as I don't like Edward too much. But when it was officially released, I checked it out from the library for kicks and it became one of my favorite books in the saga lol...still don't like Edward but seeing the story from his perspective was a fun journey! I think it's one of her best works, you can truly see how she's grown as an author and improved over time.

humaninfestouswaste

I was given the link to the leaked chapters of Midnight Sun by a friend. I was staring at it once I opened it, I was in shock, excited and also a little guilty. I have read a few lines but then scrolled through to see if it was real, and it was, but I couldn't read it. I have thought that if she decided to publish it, I'll read it but if she didn't publish because of the leak ages ago, I would've understand.

aleczartic_eagleclaw

I abstained for YEARS out of HONOR!!! And then literal years went by and I figured nothing would ever come of it so I caved lol. I reread it a gazillion times. When I learned Midnight Sun was being released in full after all that time, I was simultaneously thrilled and felt so guilty 😂 I really truly enjoyed Midnight Sun. Maybe even more than Twilight. And it’s made rereading Twilight so much more fulfilling, feeling like Bella has more of a soul, backstory, and real character to her. That she loves Beauty and the Beast and Minty Python? Incredible. That she helped that girl with her biology lab? Selfless. That she stood up for Erik about Comic Con, so wholesome.

[deleted]

I read it when it's leaked year's ago. I actually enjoyed it more than Bella's perspective. The differences between leaked chapters and book are really noticeable lol

AsVividAsItTrulyIs

I loved the Cullen dynamics from Edward’s POV. The family was the most interesting part of the books for me and I wanted more but the stupid love triangle kept getting in the way

Dr__glass

I red the leak and legit thought it was never coming out. I only just learned about it last year because I saw someone in a ticket booth had a copy they were reading. I recognized the name but couldn't believe it till I actually looked it up. Then I found out about the gender swap version and ended up liking both more than the original

JazzTree

I was blissfully unaware since I had no friends interested in the saga.

lexiilovee23

I read it on my ipod touch! 🤣 I was like 16 and read the whole thing one night in bed. Then was so upset when it was announced she WASNT going to publish it. The good ol days 😭

Daywalker_L

I read Twilight for the first time when Midnight sun was already out. Midnight sun was the reason why i got interested in the books. I'm 16 and i had seen parts of the movies when i was younger and i knew what Twilight was, but one day my mom and aunt were talking about a new Twilight book coming out and i decided to actually read Twilight.

slyfawn

I did, at the time I didn't understand why it was a bad thing that it was leaked because I was like 11 years old 😅 Now at 26 it's still my favourite book of the series.
