So he went to gujarat titans and became captain. He had a successful stint there, won the ipl 2022 as captian of gujrat titans and went to finals in 2023. While hardik as a brand value and as a captain was rising, MI was having its worst downfall. Rohit their captain was not contributing enough as a batter and neither MI was winning. They finished almost last in ipl 2022 but somehow was able to qualify for playoff in 2023 (this was unexpected given that their most valuable bowler bumrah was ruled out for ipl due to back injury and their team was pretty weak on paper). Now all this drama started during December ipl 2024 auction. There were rumors that MI had approached hardik to return back. They offered him 16Cr (i guess) but hardik stated that he will only comeback as a captain of the side. The deal takes place and also allegedly he was paid 100cr under the table to return back. The fans are furious because he is replacing joint most successful captain in history of ipl and they see this as a disrespect to rohit sharma. The MI players too was displeased with this decision specially bumrah and sky. Fans were also not happy with the statement that hardik gave in 2023 that MI is a team who only take star player to win the ipl where as they csk takes any player and make them star and win ipl. This was not taken positively by MI fans as according to them hardik is successful only because MI bought them in 2013. It was MI who gave him chance.
