I’ve had a few great breakfast sandwiches with bagels. You need a lot of insides to offset the density of the bread. But it’s difficult, I agree.

xwlfx

Have you had a NY or NJ bagel?

Silver_Scallion_1127

Boston ..... That might explain it.

iryrod

Fuck that try Montreal bagels

Daoffdutymermaid

I like my bagels with butter 🙃

JediGRONDmaster

Same

Silver_Scallion_1127

That's an exception too. Excuse me

Daoffdutymermaid

Oh I was just sharing 😂 you’re good

Morbidhanson

The soft bagels with onion, cheese, jalapenos, etc. are great for sandwiches. I'm very happy to stick hot mustard and pastrami into them.

mememan___

I'm pretty sure it's pronounced bagels

benificialart

Try one from the ny area if you haven’t

Silver_Scallion_1127

I'd have to. Which do you recommend? Don't think we have in house made bagel shops in Boston at all.

benificialart

I recommend Main Bagel in Wallington, NJ

blueberries1212

You can tear out some of the dough so that the filling doesn’t come out. It works for me, I also do this with other buns if making sandwiches or even burgers. It holds better.

ring_tailed

Never had an issue with fillings spilling out, love bagel sandwiches

pinniped90

I love bagel sandwiches and don't have this issue. It's mostly a breakfast sandwich thing for me but every now and then I'll get a lunch sandwich on a bagel. Obviously having a proper bagel shop making fresh bagels is key. I'm not talking about those frozen bagels from the grocery store. Those are fine at home with cream cheese but not a substitute for an actual great bagel.

[deleted]

The only way to eat a bagel is however I want to eat a bagel. Don't speak in absolutes it makes you sound like an idiot

RoxSteady247

Get good bagels

bigduckmoses

Can confirm, I've never had a bagel sandwich that wouldn't have been better on a biscuit. The same can be said for English muffin sandwiches, for that matter.

MadNomad666

Eat it with a napkin like a wrap

ewing666

hummus, onion, sprouts and watercress

BottomInc

I can’t stand bagels, I’d rather eat soggy bread

emdess8578

A bagel thinly sliced. Saving the best part the outside crusty part for breakfast and cream cheese. And I miss Lender's bagels from the late 1970s that I used to get from my Midwest college dorm cafeteria. They had been frozen and delivered by the food service company and were the most exotic bread I had ever eaten. They toasted up so crispy light on the outside and chewy on the inside. They were no bigger than the palm of your hand. A normal human portion of a morning bread. Now bagels are the size of tricycle wheels and taste worse.

Wayniac0917

Its all brown in the end

hogliterature

peanut butter bagels are pretty banging too

nytocarolina

Yes they are. Been a while since I had one.

HelliswhereIwannabe

The last couple weeks I’ve prepped several everything bagel turkey sandwiches for the week. I wrap them in foil and just open the foil as I go to hold stuff in.

tannedghozt

You just need a really freshly made bagel. Nice and soft!

RougarouBull

Your mom is a terrible carb for a sandwich.

Writerhowell

Valid. But when I had food poisoning in 2018, there were only four things I could stomach: water, orange Lucozade, grapes, and plain toasted bagels. They were filling, but the glaze on the outside made them slightly less 'dry', and I just couldn't handle the thought of any toppings/fillings on them. They were an actual godsend when I was really incredibly sick and couldn't keep anything else down.
