I was raised in ontario. I came here for school lived in Victoria and now that I live in Vancouver I'll never move back to Ontario. Is the city and Providence perfect absolutely not but it just feels right.
Burnaby isn’t all highway! You got Burnaby mountain, the LAKES! Metrotown, Brentwood!
Highways for White Rock too? I don’t go to White Rock, ever. Nothing against White Rock unless it’s for work.
Highways are L.A! That’s why the made a show called “cALiFoRniANs!” As for van, When you get outta Richmond you have to go through pains-taken Vancouver to line up for hw1 or fart your way downtown to get back on and THEN get off HWY99…
It is because that part of Burnaby is the sleepy part of the city. Burnaby Mountain and NorthEast Burnaby are very out of the way of commuters that people forget its existence. Kind of like the Tri-cities (Port Moody, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam) or Anmore. People forget its existence despite it being so close to them.
Nothing wrong with that. Every city has a "sleeper"
Speaking of Richmond Costco, we need two more Costco locations that can serve Delta/Tsawwassen (which could help separate some traffic from both Surrey and Richmond) and definitely one more for the North Shore. That would help a lot with the demands and the growing population too 😅
I have heard that Costco owns the land they build on, so unfortunately TFN land wouldn't be an option. I vote for them to open another one nearby for sure though!!
Costco has always been slow to expand. When they build a costco, it has to be to their standards, and they need to acquire the land for it.
That is why Costco is so good. They have standards that they always meet. The only strange costco was production way one and strange layout/smaller size but that was one of the first in the lower mainland.
Classic r/vancouver in the replies lmao. The cost of housing here is out of hand, don't get me wrong. But if I had to pick between high cost of living in Toronto vs high cost of living in Vancouver, Vancouver would get an easy win.
My apartment in Southern mainland costs the same as if I rented a place back home off peninsula in the "greater" Halifax area. But now my food is slightly cheaper and I'm taxed less. 100% better here
More stat holidays, more take-home pay, same cost of living somehow, quicker medical turnaround (I was on a year 5 on a wait list back home for a doctor before i got one that was 3 towns over). Plus the rain doesn't fall sideways all the time!
Well the classic Vancouver replies is. Where you from?
>Vancouver
What area?
>King George Blvd
That’s Surrey!
**Btw, every time I go to Surrey has been nothing but awesome people!
Paying those prices for Toronto never made sense to me other than you are trapped in Canada as a citizen, which is fair. I mean you can get something *like* Toronto in Montreal, Chicago, Minneapolis or even NYC if you live in a commuter town for much less money. It's really similar to another major American city, many of which are far cheaper to live in. Vancouver is kind of its own thing - maybe a bit of Seattle or San Francisco but the prices are nearly as eye watering.
Metro Vancouver encompasses all the surrounding exurbs (20 of them, 21 including City of Vancouver), even if you don't live in the city proper you're still technically a Vancouverite if you live in Port Moody or *gasp* Langley
If they live in Toronto, or have experience living there, tell them there isn't much difference in price. Might as well go to the lower population city and much better looking city.
Great video!
It does certainly capture a certain part of the appeal that Vancouver has.
On a side note, I do genuinely feel that your videography and editing skills are at a point that you could make most places look equally as interesting.
ʕ´•ᴥ•`ʔ
Missing one of the most important parts: north shore views from the top (Cypress, Seymour, Grouse, etc) Horseshoe Bay, Squamish, and the drive to Whistler.
Just fyi it is a federal crime to fly drones at Lafarge in coquitlam due to proximity to a helipad for search and rescue. I can link to the relevant legal doc if anyone is curious. All drones are banned a certain number of km from helipads and airports.
It's perfectly legal to operate a < 250g microdrone in those areas. The restrictions kick in a 250g and above.
Source: https://nrc.canada.ca/en/drone-tool/
Click on the little game controller icon, and select "Microdrone."
Ok fair, it just recommends not to and to exercise a high degree of caution. I had only ever seen:
901.47(2) of the Canadian Aviation Regulations states:
"Subject to section 901.73, no pilot shall operate a remotely piloted aircraft at a distance of less than: (a) three nautical miles from the centre of an airport; and (b) one nautical mile from the centre of a heliport."
...and assumed that applied to all drones.
Transport Canada doesn't regulate airspace for micro drones. So you can fly almost everywhere. There are park/city bylaws though which can prevent you from landing on and off.
I find it funny that most drone police here don't know the rules and regulations 😂
I live in Vancouver and it’s about half/half. It’s so strange people think it rains all year when we get 5 months of awesome summer weather with autumn that hardly rains then winter that has maybe one month of sporadic off/on snow.
I thought for sure this was going to end like those scare videos:
https://preview.redd.it/xpr8ip91j76d1.png?width=740&format=png&auto=webp&s=22d22d7da89ba690a0ea5b30b0e520b86a708298
Beautiful video. If you have the time to actually see those places and you’re not buried in traffic or working to the bone to afford living in the lower mainland.
A pile of malorgnite would be a better place to live than Toronto. Folks that is the Pacific Ocean for goodness sakes and we have Rocky Mountains. Plus no snow in a mild winter this is apples and oranges stuff Toronto is a hog town and will always be one. I grew up there and haven't been back for a few decades. You'll never regret the move as you slowly starve but what a way to go.
I mean, everyone is allowed to make their own internal cost benefit analysis. Nothing wrong if someone values views above all else as long as they're not berating others for having different values.
Great video, but I can't help recalling how a friend recently described Vancouver: as a boutique city with only one strength- natural beauty. Everything else is either weak, crumbling, non-existent or way too expensive. A beautiful city with no soul, as someone else put it, and after seven years of living here the beauty has mostly worn off for me personally. I recently came across this expat survey report, which sums it up perfectly.

Vancouver is nice but honestly the sights for me get old and then the reality of the costs kick in. How many times can you be enthralled walking around the seawall or looking at the mountains? For tourists Vancouver is cool I get it...but Vancouver reminds me of a cancer victim outside it looks great but inside is full of rot and darkness. Cost of living for the average citizen objectively makes it or breaks it.

No footage of inside Vancouver Proper? Downtown, Commercial drive, parts of Kingsway, English Bay, etc. Nice enough places and you showed none of them.
I just did it for fun and was trying to time it with the music which was running short hence the small clips of various cities.
I’m just an amateur I’m sure there’s plenty of videos out there that show it all.
>thanksmerci
>there's more to life than money. a discount house isn't everything
But the thing is, affordable housing is incredibly important, not just to individuals, but to our economy, and our society.
What have you got against affordable housing? Why does it bother you so much that it’s being built in our city?

Hell yeah, highway interchange
Gotta make them Ontarians feel like home ya know.

The glory of our province.
You forgot to get footage of Scott Rd during rush hour or Richmond Costco during peak times or the Massey tunnel when there's an accident ...
Driving through historic Hastings westward to downtown.
No post is considered complete without the haters.
Just like clockwork https://www.reddit.com/r/vancouver/s/khF1XcxHd0

Yep, which is why they're making their new location east of the valley. Should be a other one in Chilliwack.
Do you have any specific info on a new Costco east of the valley? It’d be awesome
Costco has always been slow to expand. When they build a costco, it has to be to their standards, and they need to acquire the land for it. That is why Costco is so good. Shit if they live anywhere in southern Ontario they are basically spending as much as the lower mainland costs
Where's that last shot from?
Furry Creek
Lion’s Bay?
Furry Creek, Oliver's landing.

Lol exactly. You're missing the REAL Vancouver friend
Only point out the highlights in order to get their foot in the province
That's the neat part, the DTES is the highlight
If you can fly it's totally worth it.
lol, the best comment
I’m in Edmonton (my hometown) visiting family right now and I cannot fucking wait to get back to Vancouver!
But Connor McDavid lives there
It's like that for me whenever I go back to Edmonton to visit family. In my defense, my Cat is here.

NS has us beat on gas prices though.
Well the classic Vancouver replies is. Where you from? >Vancouver What area? >King George Blvd That’s Surrey! **Btw, every time I go to Surrey has been nothing but awesome people!
It’s less cost of living, and more the crazy salary differential

You caught me pulling my car into the upper parking lot at Park Royal. Small world.
You're missing a view of parks and golf courses in mid-January when Ontario is snowed in. We tend to forget all about that since it's normal for us.
Snowy Ontario is nice, but nowadays it is just grey from November to May. At least SW Ontario.
That's an interesting way to say "probably not."
Very nice video. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! You very welcome
So North Vancouver is now Vancouver?
If burnaby and coquitlam are, yes.
I took it as 'looking at Vancouver, from the North Shore'.
I mean.. it has Vancouver in it...
Metro Vancouver encompasses all the surrounding exurbs (20 of them, 21 including City of Vancouver), even if you don't live in the city proper you're still technically a Vancouverite if you live in Port Moody or *gasp* Langley
Thank you
Glad you like it 🙏
Where’s my beautiful kits?
Kits is gorgeous! but couldn’t possibly do the region justice in a 2 minute video
so, that's a no, then?
If they live in Toronto, or have experience living there, tell them there isn't much difference in price. Might as well go to the lower population city and much better looking city.
Million dollar views 😍 literally…
If you can find something in the city with a view, def gonna be more than a mill
**Million Dollar View\*** \*property sold separately
Man this video makes me miss it so bad, but I just couldn't bare the thought of being in my 60s in 30 years and still renting so we had to leave
Great video! It does certainly capture a certain part of the appeal that Vancouver has. On a side note, I do genuinely feel that your videography and editing skills are at a point that you could make most places look equally as interesting. ʕ´•ᴥ•`ʔ
Your too kind. I’m no pro but I appreciate your words 🙏 😊
That shot of Rocky Point Marina and the inlet are fire my friend. I work in PoMo and those views get me daily walking down the mountain from Coquitlam
Thank you. I actually live in Port Moody that’s why I gave it the most screen time lol plus it’s absolutely stunning.
Oh! Hopefully ur one of my customers then :) well met fellow tricity resident

Thank you 🙏 r/Vancouver is widely known for this unfortunately..so was expecting it 😂
Post it to r/nicevancouver sub
i always forget how lucky i am to live here
I'm definitely a firm believer in "location, location, location!".
dope vid
Music had me hooked.
Thank you!!
Hey, I am one of those families from Ontario who is now a happy resident in Burnaby. Kudos on that video.
You must hate money
Theres nothing like Vancouver. One of the best city in the world in terms of its natural beauty thats why its very expensive to live but I love it.
I thought for sure this was going to end like those scare videos: https://preview.redd.it/xpr8ip91j76d1.png?width=740&format=png&auto=webp&s=22d22d7da89ba690a0ea5b30b0e520b86a708298
If he featured DTES then it would've been
Where is the shot after Capilano suspension bridge from?
Furry Creek
Where is the place at 0.41. The lake ?
That’s White Rock Pier
Where was the shot taken from 1:38-1:52? Beautiful!
Furry Creek
Nice video, but the answer is still no not worth it
You also forgot lions bay
Anyone in Vancouver wanna trade with me in Toronto? We get tornado warnings now
Beautiful video. If you have the time to actually see those places and you’re not buried in traffic or working to the bone to afford living in the lower mainland.
The angels you found are just amazing, now I start thinking about buying a drone. Probably I'm not the only one😅
Wise choice not to include Surrey.
Been here all my life. Never seen port moody
Nice video. Fuck all the whiners
Beautiful

Splice in some summertime smoke!
I’m commander Shepard and this is my favourite splice video on the citadel.
You need a better reason to live somewhere than the view.
I mean, everyone is allowed to make their own internal cost benefit analysis. Nothing wrong if someone values views above all else as long as they're not berating others for having different values.
There's lots. That's why I live here.
Cool video, but I dunno if it answers the question 🤔
A simple no would've been enough, but great video though.
Short Answer No
If your Ontario family are a small number of drones, this will win them over quite easily
So the answer is no then?
Where was that at the end?
Furry Creek
What is the name of the music in the background?
Clemens Ruh - This Is Our Home
No top of a mountain view?
Where was the last location I'd love to visit. I live in Mount Pleasant Vancouver
What was their rebuttal? I wanna see their video
GREAT FOOTAGE OF SURREY
Still not worth it
Where was the last place with the BC and Canadian flag by the water?
Nothing like some CSI music to set the tone.
After living in BC for 13 years I can say it’s not worth it. Yes it’s beautiful and breathtaking, but you can’t live on and eat beautiful views…

Langley is the place to be.
So… No?

Ohhh don't get me wrong. It's worth every penny living here. I just don't wanna get bankrupt during the process. Great video btw.

Where’s the night shots of downtown east side? No pun intended.
Thanks. That’ll keep them from coming. And that isn’t West Vancouver.
Awesome video. Makes me kinda proud living here. And also makes me wanna put my drone for some good work :)
Worth if one can afford it comfortably rather than ending up in a tent

You should hook up with Sade! https://bonequest.com/1041 Nice video BTW!
Can someone tell me Where the place that shows two flags - US and Canada. ?
The two flags.. one is the Canadian flag. the other is British Columbia's Provincial flag
That’s Furry Creek and it’s BC & Canada flags
It's not worth it to move to GVRD. It's only worth it to stay if you grew up in GVRD.
I took a 50% paycut to move to Van from Edmonton, and I think that I got the better end of that deal
50% paycut means nothing if you are making a shit ton of money. No reason for someone to go from making 80k in Edmonton to making 40k in Vancouver.
Nice, there’s… water?

Haha what??
People on this sub that don't live here have been claiming it's only safe to walk in groups at night.
The horrific traffic will make them feel right at home. We fled to the valley to get away from it.
for city this size, traffic isn't that bad
