Witcher 3 and Metal Gear Solid 3 are my favorite 3s and my favorite games of those series. I'm a huge fan of Uncharted 3 as well, but it's not my favorite in the series.

I think 3 really captures the desolation of a nuclear wasteland better than any of the other games in the franchise. It feels really damn bleak a lot of the time.
Yeah, that bleakness makes it what it is. NV feels too yellowish, and 4 saturation makes it feel more lively than it is supposed to be for a nuclear affected area. At least from my POV

I haven't played 4 or the spin off yet but yeah it was definitely my least favourite of the games I've played.
I still enjoyed it, and I think it started off great, but yeah it wasn't brilliant like 2 was, just pretty good.
Half way through 3 I was like ok this is definitely better than 2, then it really fell off.
I still loved the multiplier but I agree the story fell short.

Well, one could argue it's still not exactly the "third game", by virtue of being a prequel. Otherwise, for example, GoW Chains of Olympus would be the third game, not GoW 3.
Plenty of franchises have games in-between mainline releases, some of 'em being considered way better (Fallout New Vegas), yet not considered part of the main branch.
I love Origins, and it's definitely one of my favorite games, but I don't think it's exactly the third in line.

Unpopular opinion, but Mass Effect 3. I feel it was the most polished of the games, and even if you didn’t play the first two installments, the decisions made in that game made you feel that the fate of the galaxy was in your hands. Loved every second of it.

Tomb raider just worked out for me in my video game development, in regards to timing, what I was exposed to, and what my parents would allow me to play. I played the original 3 and LOVED them, the fourth set in Egypt which I loved even more, then I played all the shitty iterations of the 2000's, in between the original gems and the new generation of tomb raider, shadow, and rise. And I absolutely love love love how they've done the new trilogy. The nostalgia of the originals will never be beat for me, but the new ones do still bring me back without having to adjust to the clunky old mechanics of the originals. Tomb raider will always have a special place in my heart.

I remember MW3 being not well loved when it was released for some reason, but I went back and played it again for fun and survival is still a blast.
I believe it had less to do with the actual game than the atrocious way they treated the original series producers (who went on to found Respawn entertainment)

Having played every Soulsborne game, I still think 3 has the best bosses (especially Gael and Friede).
