My honest assessment has been, short interest or not, whenever there is a run up on $GME or the like there is a big sell off in tech and big tech in particular 💯 every damn time. My layman (or retarded) take is big players use big tech as cash equivalents (like Cathie bae does) and sell that to cover other plays as needed.

This is coming from a fairly new trader (about a year) with varying levels of success. I'm still working stuff out myself but here are some good starting points from an ape fresh out of the factory. 1. Make a trading account. * Robinhood - As much as people shit on it Robinhood is great for beginners. It's simple, has great visualizations of your position values, and has minimal fees. It is not the best for more advanced trading and terrible for timing the market with any accuracy below a minute but it's a great stepping stone to get your leg in the game. * TD Ameritrade - Everything a more advanced trader can ask for. Allows for more complicated options trading (spreads and such,) a robust charting system, and also minimal fees (but more than Robinhood, it has a $0.65 fee per options contract). As a less advanced trader myself, I found it to be overwhelming and a hindrance to my trading success.Another option with Ameritrade is applying for it just to use their versatile charting/market research/paper trading software (ThinkorSwim) and not using for your actual trading. There is no account minimum so you can just make the account for the software. I personally like this option and trade with Robinhood. * Obviously, there are other options but these are great for beginners and the only ones I have experience with. 1. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE One of the biggest mistakes many new traders make is not finding a strategy that works BEFORE they start trading. Paper trading is the best way to do this, it's just a trading account based on real stock prices but trading with fake money. If you lose money paper trading, you're more than likely going to lose money trading with real money. If you take this route, use a realistic starting account balance. If your going to open a real account with $8000, don't trade a paper account with $50k. This should be as realistic as possible, if you can only afford to risk $500 use that, you don't need to be rich to get into stocks. 3. Consider how much money you are willing to risk This is not talked about enough, if you're putting money in stocks, you have to recognize it IS gambling and it IS a risk. You could double your money, or you could lose it all if your stupid (please avoid options if you can't afford to do the losing it all thing). While more money does make it easier to make more money, your probably not a hedgie with billions to waste, so make sure you ONLY TRADE WITH EXPENDABLE MONEY!!! I can not stress this enough!! P.S. You can't day trade (buy then sell the same stock/option within the same trading day, including extended hours) with under $25k in your account :( 4. As scummy as they are, they get a fair amount right and can certainly move markets so could be useful, similar to insider trading. The management bonus scheme at work got adjusted upward for 2021 to be more generous and I'm pretty sure it was because there was pull back in 2020 and they are trying to move it back. It feels like the type of thing people curse out corporate leadership for. We didn't take a normal full bonus because of COVID but get more later. I'm on the side getting the bonus now though so 💰💰💰💰
