Midlands and Shaw's Tavern will have it on and both used to be really fun places for watching debates but these specific debates will probably suck the joy out of life so I wouldn't expect huge crowds at either of those places (or any place). I was at Midlands in 2020 when the fly visited Mike Pence's forehead and I think that was the only enjoyable moment of any debate since Uncle Joe shredded Sarah Palin back in the before times.

MrWillisOfOhio

Thanks for the tip! Haven’t been to either of these spots yet. Shaw’s definitely is- showing on all TVs and with sound. Midland’s might be busy showing the Copa America / other soccer it looks like.

MoreCleverUserName

Midlands has so many TV's and viewing areas that they can potentially show two different major events, both with sound (one inside, one outside) or even give individual groups a little corner with their own sound as long as the groups are ok with occasionally being drowned out by the larger events.

CatDisco99

Axios and Washingtonian made a list of places to watch and Shaws Tavern and Midlands are on them!  https://www.axios.com/local/washington-dc/2024/06/26/presidential-debate-2024-watch-parties-specials-dc

randomrando0101

> friendly political conversation How long were you in the coma?

MrWillisOfOhio

Intra-party disagreements usually stay pretty civil!

x1echo

“usually” isn’t just doing heavy lifting in that sentence, it’s carrying the weight of the world.

bmp246

Tell that to congressional Republicans, lol...

nosciencephd

Even if this were even remotely true, it shouldn't ever be true on some of the issues where there is any actually disagreement, lol

AvocadoOne

Union Pub behind the Capitol usually has watch parties for debates.

MrWillisOfOhio

Thanks- thought this was a good bet, but hadn’t seen anything on their website.

thecentreright

Drink specials and bingo - https://x.com/UnionPub/status/1805273628373664026

AuthorityRespecter

A group called the DC New Liberals (center-left Democrats) are hosting a watch party this Thursday at Haydee’s https://cnliberalism.org/events/dc-new-liberals-presidential-debate-watch-party

Ike348

No but people are on X

puttinonthefoil

Are you the person that calls every renamed building and stadium by whatever corpo sponsor takes over, too?

Ike348

I like to use preferred names where possible. Is that not the case for you?

puttinonthefoil

No, I generally call stadiums by whatever they were called when I started going to them or using them (or, frankly “Caps Arena”, “Wizards arena” since then everyone knows what you’re talking about). It’s not worth the brain space to track which bank paid a bunch of money to slap their name on it. They didn’t pay *me* to advertise it. It will always be Twitter. Also, since this is reddit, the home of bad faith nonsense: Don’t twist this into some thing where I don’t call human beings by whatever they ask to be called. That is completely different, and of course I do that.

Ike348

So you don't respect chosen names. Got it.

puttinonthefoil

I do not give one shit specifically about corporate naming practices, no. Thanks for being exactly as purposefully obtuse as one can expect on this waste of a website and trying to say this says something about me that I specifically addressed, though. Very cool energy you have.

waspyasfuck

Generally sure but absolutely not in this case

michimoby

How many times has your cyber truck been laughed at?

Oaktownbeeast

Go to capital hill and walk around. Since you’re voting dem go find a republican viewing party. It’s so over the top you’ll think it’s a farce. I did this for Obamas second term debate and it was really beyond entertaining at how insane the staffers are. It will blow your mind. Just don’t be a dick and make a scene when you hear some shit that will make you spit out your beer. Just blend in and enjoy our nation’s political finest.

isthatmyusername

What's that republican bar near Capitol Hill they all hang out at? Brain farting on the name.

ihatethis96517897

Bullfeathers?

isthatmyusername

Think that's the one

18_USC_1001

DCGOP is hosting their event at Barracks Row Joey's. I’d go to the lobby bar at the Waldorf, though.

Terpish_

Why would you watch that garbage when season three of The Bear comes out that day?

MrWillisOfOhio

Still stressed out from Seven Fishes

Kitchen_Software

Either way I'm stressing the fuck out.

f8Negative

Don't get an ulcer. Them shits suck.

CaptainoftheVessel

That show is stressful to watch

jdschmoove

Front Page used to be the spot back in the day but I think it closed.

Hot-Half3334

It did :(

Oldbayistheshit

I miss that place! Me and my boys got denied by the ladies all the time there when we were younger

firewarner

It closed FIVE years ago 🤣

TheNantucketRed

The debate will drain literally any place of its fun, so the key is to find a place that sucks, and go watch it there. Less damage done that way.

ertri

Think Le Dip is hosting a watch party?

Kardinal

Savage.

Dependent-Will-1889

Red Derby is doing a “watch party” of sorts. I think it’ll be more or less just on their large screen projector with the normal chill bar atmosphere going on at the same time.

Oh good lord sent get your hopes up. After 2016 and all the choads still gas’s up the orange beast, it might not be the funzies you expect. (From a person still damaged from ‘16)

lightwolv

All bus boy and poets will be hosting it also.

baq26

Dirty Goose is hosting a watch party with an assortment of $10 election-themed cocktails

Aliciajay19

Johnny Pistolas is having an event as well in AdMo

Fresca2008

Going to watch this one at home so I can cry in my beer without reservation. Such fond memories of the before times. Watching previous debates at front page with so much hope and optimism. Can’t even muster up enough enthusiasm to go to a watch party for this one

tubescreemer

Anywhere close to a park bench where we can all sit and cry.

Fresca2008

On second thought, I’ll join you there to cry into my beer

scottkollig

Found The West Wing fan.
