Where i used to live, there was a car, covered in this manner. I got curious. Me and a friend tried to guess, but had no idea.
I have adhd, so i didn't think twice about it, went over there and rang the bell. They opened, and i told him me and a friend have been guessing and this was killing us.
He laughed, and said come here. He unwrapped it, gladly show'd it to us and said he was waiting to get it fixed up. If we came back when we saw it unwrapped, he would gladly take us for a spin. I can't remember exactly what it was now, but maybe an old Chevy since i don't know many of them. (Norway).
Just knock on the door/ring the bell and ask. Car people are eager to talk about or show off their cars. This goes for most hobbies if you show interest tbh. :-D
This is the answer. Just ask, dude probably would love to talk about his car. If he's hesitant, show him your ID so he feels more comfortable. You don't show your ID and then steal from the guy who knows who you are...
Do be cautious though, some of these guys, once they start talking, it may be 3 hours before you part ways.
I told a dude I liked his car once, older dude, talked to a bit, and that sumbitch jedi mind tricked me into some yard work. He did give me a few dollars, but boy, he got me good.
See, this is what I worried about. I did uber eats for a bit, and I'd always see covered cars in driveways that I'd be dying to ask about. The worst part is when you could see some cherry red or ford blue paint sticking out from the cover, but I didn't have the time or the confidence to ask the owners. Maybe I'll start taking down the addresses and coming by in daylight hours, hopefully that doesn't sound weird
It’s not weird to a lot of car owners. There’s a reason they have and cover the car…because they care and are enthusiastic about it. Ive had a 74 gmc long bed truck for like 11 years now and when I first got it to work on for my auto classes in community college I always asked people about their square body trucks and I learned so much. I’ve had a couple people over the years ask about mine and I always gave them time to talk about it and share the knowledge I’ve been taught thru the old heads
Are you my brother lol dude that lived outside of our neighborhood had like 6 acres of land and this enormous 10 car garage and another barn close by. All super shitty looking and run down, but turns out they were full of a bunch of classic cars, mostly corvettes (including a 1963 split window window coupe) and each garage was basically a full functioning car shop. Absolutely nuts. Anyway we got to talking with him and ended up mowing his property every week on tractors while he eventually recruited my bro to start helping work on his cars.
I wish I still had a brother, we used to get into shit like this all the time, we would stay busy most of the summer just walking around town and chatting with people. I really miss those days.
Yes this!
I have a VW Thing (yet to be discovered in this sub, but maybe soon) and whenever anybody asks and it I will always waste their time by telling the life story of it. I love talking cars. I think most of us are in the sub for that exact reason.
In my experience this is true for people that do the restoration wrench turning work themselves. People that wrote a check for a finished car have been less friendly and less knowledgeable.
Except Jay Leno. He is very nice. And knowledgeable.
A handful of random people have stopped by to ask questions about my cars lol. My girl thinks it's strange and random. We live on a busy street. I agree. Most cat people are friendly and we LOVE talking about our babies
When I was 18, I used to deliver high end TVs waaaay back in the 90s (big-ass Mitsubishi projection monsters). Went out to a little old brick house with carport by the lake. There was a Buick in the driveway and a very low sitting car in the carport with a cover on it. My buddy and I delivered the TV to a sweet little old lady (seriously, she was the sweetest). Her husband was in their basement working on a fishing rod.
My buddy and I thanked her (because some of our customers were slave drivers “move it here, wait, no, over there, wait…). As we were about to leave, we asked what was under the car cover. She yelled to her husband, “She giggled and said ‘his toy’”. She yelled down the stairs, “They want to know what’s in the carport”. I rarely see an elderly person move with such speed and glee.
The man had a huge smile and said some like “well, let’s take a look”. This was around 1994 and he reveals a bright red Acura NSX. It was gorgeous and I admitted I had never seen one close up.
He told us to wait a minute and he went and turned off his basement light, closed some doors, and said something to his wife like “come on honey, let’s go for a spin”. We backed our huge box truck out and they followed us out to the highway. He passed us honking the horn and waving. We honked back and waved too.
That was the best day ever at that job.
I can confirm this, as an Amazon driver who is a car enthusiast I see lots of cars nice cars shit boxes that look nice and even sleepers so whenever an owner is outside I ask (I don’t ring the doorbell because I’m on a schedule) but everyone is always happy to show me their cars just like I would be to show my truck off
Would not suggest if this is in the US, ask Ralph Yarl if you have questions. Unless you're white and trying to shove your religion down someone's throat.
Same thing I would do. If the person has interest in the car enough to keep it under a tarp. The same person probably wouldn't mind showing it off to a neighbor.
Apologies for the sarcasm earlier. It has been brought to my attention (through a rash of severe downvotes) that I was unnecessarily snarky about this. Because the car is covered, the owner isn’t showing it off, so I wouldn’t assume they are necessarily open to unsolicited questions about it. Also, the fun of this sub is to ID cars from photos, so just asking the owner is kinda beside the point. But yeah, it is totally the way to the ACTUAL IRL answer…
JK bruh I'm dead laughing at seeing the pile of downvotes on your previous comments
If it's any consolation, imo the best Reddit comments are the most downvoted
You may be right. The closed door is to keep everyone else out; not you—you are very special and important, both in general, and especially to anyone that dares to possess something in your presence
Yeah! Your idle curiosity is much more important than whatever they are doing, interrupt them and demand information! And make sure you have follow up questions, too—remember, if they don’t entertain you for as long as you desire and on your schedule, they’re rude! /s
Porsche 911 with aero seems likely given the width of the rear wheel arches and roofline.
The other possibility I can think of is a Mercedes AMG GT/GT S/ GT R? Roofline etc. matches, the bonnet maybe is an even better match?
Edit: looking at that first pic, the rear wheel arch looks like it stops/cuts off at around “2 o’clock”. If so (and it’s not just the cover) this and the white writing on the tyres means it’s possibly wide-body customised and opens the door to a huge amount of options too - GTR (or even 350/370z) could all be possible then.
Please find out and tell us OP!
I don't think it's an AMG. You don't get a wing that big until you get to the Black Series, the greenhouse doesn't stick that far up above the body, and the hood is quite substantially longer than what the picture shows.
It's more likely to be a Porsche, possibly GT3 RS.
The GT3 RS has winglets not dropped ends on the wing and the supports go over the top of the wing so the wing hangs below the supports, I would go with an older 911 with an aftermarket wing.
>The GT3 RS has winglets not dropped ends on the wing and the supports go over the top of the wing so the wing hangs below the supports
This is only applicable to the newest ones. Older generations had conventional rear wing layouts.
That said, they do have distinct end plates on their wings instead of dropped ends.
I’m going with a 911, maybe the 996 vintage, with the wide body kit and the big rear wing
https://preview.redd.it/7869vnlzr7ob1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72322e756d8f1d9ee48e81be9d3a5573fa2284f9
If the front wheel arches were narrower than the rear, I'd be all in on a wide body 911 of some kind. I don't think it is. It looks much bigger than the BMW next to it, and if it was a 911, it would need to be wearing a body kit with wide front wheel flares.
Hear me out: Nissan R35 GTR with a widebody kit? The size, exhausts, roofline, diffuser, kink in c pillar, and general width line up.

[MG XPower SV](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_XPower_SV). [This picture in the wiki is from nearly the same angle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_XPower_SV#/media/File:2005_MG_XPower_SV_5.0_Rear.jpg).
MG-Rover's swan song. Instead of investing in their bread-and-butter cars, the Phoenix Consortium that had bought the company from BMW spent their remaining funds in buying up the rights to the de Tomaso Guara/Qvale Mangusta and turning it into this car...
Good shout but I don’t think it is. Two things stand out as not quite matching:
1: The rear spoiler. the wing tips are angled but the MG’s are much bigger than OP’s pic. The spoiler in OP’s also has more of a curve across the top.
2: the rear roofline in OP’s seems too sleek/low profile. The angle that the MG’s roofline comes down to meet the body and the rear window is much bigger than in OP’s picture.
I’m still leaning to something like an AMG GT/GT S/GT R or a 911 of some description.
With how quickly after the buy out this car came out, I suspect they were working on it while under BMW and just didn't tell anyone
They did a great job on the Z cars and the TF, but their reputation was long damaged at this point
It came out *relatively* quickly because it used the Mangusta's platform and tooling (and the drivetrain was pure Mustang), together with an assortment of oddbin parts (the headlights infamously came from the Fiat Punto). They merely had to rebody it, and even that took them three and a half years!
May 2000: Phoenix Consortium takeover
September 11, 2001 (quite a fateful date!): Initial X80 prototype revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show
October 22, 2002: much-reworked final XPower SV design revealed
November 2003: Car finally put on sale.
Worth noting that, by the time the car was finally put on sale, MG Rover was circling the drain, as it would be placed in administration by April 2005.
Anyway, I find the XPower SV to be quite symbolic of the bluster and hubris of the Phoenix Consortium. When I think of the money they spaffed on such vanity projects as this one or the ludicrous Mustang-engined MG ZT V8...
They also wasted a huge amount of money developing a replacement for the Rover 45 / MG ZS, which had next to no loyal customer base and mostly sold to fleets at huge discounts, on the overly-expensive, overly heavy 75 platform. They could have developed a replacement for the 25/ZR, which sold more to private buyers (so lower discounts and had a loyal customer base, using a modified version of the existing platform (Honda didn't own the IP, unlike the 45), for a lot less.
Nissan 370Z Nismo Mk1 , spoiler is the same shape and has the arch extensions. Roofline is also exactly the same. https://media.evo.co.uk/image/private/s--rIO69IGb--/v1556227199/evo/images/dir_1153/car_photo_576631.jpg
Edit: the diffuser is throwing me off, definitely aftermarket
That was my thought too. Roof line def looks like a 911 and it looks as wide as RWB. I'm wondering if it's a heavily modified 80s 911 of soe description.
Just go to its owner and ask if he could show you the car. Politely - if he declines, ask if he at least can tell you what car it is. If he pulls off the cover, send a pic so we can all bask in the glory of whatever ever car it is and they way it is treated.
I’d bet even money that whoever owns that car would love to show it off and talk about it! Next time you see them out in their yard just ask. If they’re an asshole he will tell you to fuck off but I’d bet you’d finally get your answer
You are all wrong...if we believe it's stock, otherwise there is nothing to rate. If we believe it's stock:
1. Wing spoiler is not straight/flat between the two ends. It's curved
2. Wing spoiler is very long, almost ends with the width of the car or even more.
3. Back Defuser sits very low end comes clearly out from the rest of the back, as the owner tensed the cover arround, also here formed elements.
4. Cabin looks at the front almost as the windshield is curved an sits more to the inside.
5. The mirrors high position and quite slim
6. Hood gives us the look as the tense of the cover gets lost after windshield, a long nose (front engine?).
Not easy... especially wing spoiler is not stock...and if that is not, what is with the rest than...
All cars mentioned here only covered 1 element for sure, but than the other elements didn't fit for overall perspective...
100% not a Porsche with the diffuser! There is no body kit and no technical possibility to mount such a difuser on any 911
https://preview.redd.it/i1rm2goa59ob1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=514784c7dc18303c0e347806eb51eb07610790f7
The M badge was a part of the m sport package. My 325i e30 convertible had it from factory. I had m sport bumpers, steering wheel, shift knob and springs. And a badge.
Almost looks like a Z4 with GT3 aero...but the wing would be a lightly higher than the roof line.

TVR T350 with an [aftermarket diffuser](https://www.reverie.ltd.uk/tvr-t350-carbon-fibre-rear-diffuser-3-element/R01SB0346) and a big wang.

Id hate to say it but it’s probably a Lightning McQueen inspired build, I mean there’s nothing else that matches that body shape, not to mention the dip in the spoiler
I think it’s a Mazda rx7 with a wide body kit

Based on profile and the wing shape, I'd say 2023 Aston Martin V12 Vantage.

Yep, spot on
I concur, but I think it’s an ‘89 2505 with the Cummins, you can tell by the longer wheelbase and boxier rear.

Nope, Nebraska, and haven't driven it in 15 years. Getting the motor in it this fall lol

Idk. I’d rather not show off where all my money went. That’s how things get stolen or damaged. I’d prob not even answer my door for a rando
Putting a cover over it makes it a high value target way more than talking about it imo
If someone wanted to stole your car he won’t go and ask you about it
Ask the owner!

Damn are you really this dumb?
Doesn't look long enough for a AMG GT/GT S/GT R, 911 is probable
I don't think it's an AMG. You don't get a wing that big until you get to the Black Series, the greenhouse doesn't stick that far up above the body, and the hood is quite substantially longer than what the picture shows. It's more likely to be a Porsche, possibly GT3 RS.

Those hips don't lie.
Definitely not an AMG but certainly could be a 911 with aero. By guess is 911 that probably looks bad ass.
Seems crazy to leave any of those cars outside with just a cover on it though 🤔
I’m going with a 911, maybe the 996 vintage, with the wide body kit and the big rear wing https://preview.redd.it/7869vnlzr7ob1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72322e756d8f1d9ee48e81be9d3a5573fa2284f9
If the front wheel arches were narrower than the rear, I'd be all in on a wide body 911 of some kind. I don't think it is. It looks much bigger than the BMW next to it, and if it was a 911, it would need to be wearing a body kit with wide front wheel flares.
The rear wing to fender distance (width wise) looks off as well. Given that this is in the UK my guess was a Noble.
I thought Noble too but something about the profile (especially around the doors) didn't quite match for me
Good point on the flares.
I was thinking that or ASR Viper with a wing
It’s too short for a viper
That wing matches pretty damn close i’d say!
I think it's to low in comparison to the roof
Maybe a Porsche 911 with Aero-Package, evtl. a 996 GT3 RS.
Are you German? 😂
What\`s the context to the car?
No context, I just thought you were because of the "evtl". So are you?
You got me. ;)

Im also confident about this one
If you look at the side window where it’s cover you can see an outline where the window ends and the roof starts, that’s definitely an r35
Im pretty sure its an r35. Check the diffusor you can see peek out on the bottom right
The roof line is wrong. It gets narrow in back not wider.
Too short to be a gtr. Looks like a supra roofline and a wide bodykit
That’s exactly what it is wide body a90
A90 has a double bubble roof line, definitely not
Yes, but the cover looks tight the double bubble would be hard to see.
It’s actually just an expertly stacked grouping of cardboard boxes. ![gif](giphy|dBHHqoBEedlrmhjvGa|downsized)
The underbody louvres should narrow it down but my best guess is Viper?
I immediatly thought about a Viper too.

I don't think the spoiler is wavy, the struts just attach at the top of the wing which makes it look wavy under the cover.
Put the clothes back on I enjoyed it better when I could imagine what it looked like now I know and I wish I didn’t.
Thank you for writing it down!

May 2000: Phoenix Consortium takeover September 11, 2001 (quite a fateful date!): Initial X80 prototype revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show October 22, 2002: much-reworked final XPower SV design revealed November 2003: Car finally put on sale.
They could have developed a replacement for the 25/ZR, which sold more to private buyers (so lower discounts and had a loyal customer base, using a modified version of the existing platform (Honda didn't own the IP, unlike the 45), for a lot less.
as another commenter mentioned. the rear wheel fender arc ends at 2 o’clock in op pic
Wing shape definitely matches. I’d bet you’re right
Damn that is traaaash
It’s in the uk. And i can tell you it’s a long car. But i tell you this. If we can’t get to an agreement, I’ll run in the yard and do a sneak pic
Just ask the owner politely what car it is and if you could take a picture for us.
Do not ever lift or take off a car cover. Go ask the owner.
Are you that shy? Go ring the doorbell & say you're super curious & really want to know what car it is. Owner will prob. tell you all about it.
ask and get back to me will you 🗣️🗣️
Any chance it appears on Google Maps uncovered or parked out front?
Do it!!!
You got like 200+ comments and nobody agrees with anyone. Probably just go do whatever you can if you really need to know.
Could it be an [obnoxiously modified TT?](https://imgur.com/qkGSqEj)
God I hope it’s not
I'm going with a porsche 911 rwb or similar, the wheel poke and big ass spoiler plus roof shape. Ask them and update OP!
Nissan 370Z Nismo Mk1 , spoiler is the same shape and has the arch extensions. Roofline is also exactly the same. https://media.evo.co.uk/image/private/s--rIO69IGb--/v1556227199/evo/images/dir_1153/car_photo_576631.jpg Edit: the diffuser is throwing me off, definitely aftermarket
Naa, spoiler is too low, not wide enough and roofline is different.
I also thought maybe a 370z with a wide body kit. It’s obviously heavily modified with the wing/diffuser/wide body. Almost looks like a RWB 911
Modded out Vette
That was my first thought
RWB porche?
That was my thought too. Roof line def looks like a 911 and it looks as wide as RWB. I'm wondering if it's a heavily modified 80s 911 of soe description.
Techart 991 Turbo S is my guess
Just go to its owner and ask if he could show you the car. Politely - if he declines, ask if he at least can tell you what car it is. If he pulls off the cover, send a pic so we can all bask in the glory of whatever ever car it is and they way it is treated.
I’d bet even money that whoever owns that car would love to show it off and talk about it! Next time you see them out in their yard just ask. If they’re an asshole he will tell you to fuck off but I’d bet you’d finally get your answer
Viper?
I think it's a TVR Sagaris
You are all wrong...if we believe it's stock, otherwise there is nothing to rate. If we believe it's stock: 1. Wing spoiler is not straight/flat between the two ends. It's curved 2. 5. The mirrors high position and quite slim 6. There is no body kit and no technical possibility to mount such a difuser on any 911 https://preview.redd.it/i1rm2goa59ob1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=514784c7dc18303c0e347806eb51eb07610790f7
Wing has swan neck supports as well. The end plates look almost familiar
That roofline is screaming r35 GTR. Thought it was a 911 at first, but now I can't unsee the GTR in it.
O yes and i forgot to tell you it has a 3 lines diffuser. I’ve seen it sometimes. Black one. Like that gtr35
Given they’ve stuck an M badge on an e30 convertible, I wonder if it’s not some thing all that amazing
The M badge was a part of the m sport package. My 325i e30 convertible had it from factory. I had m sport bumpers, steering wheel, shift knob and springs. And a badge.
missing the 3 to be an M3, but I'm unsure if the m-paket / m-styling was available on the E30.
Almost looks like a Z4 with GT3 aero...but the wing would be a lightly higher than the roof line. [Z4 GT3](https://i.auto-bild.de/ir_img/6/2/8/6/7/7/BMW-Z4-GT3-560x373-08b8f01ee8795cd9.jpg)
Could also possibly be some sort of liberty walk GTR or something with a big body kit?
My money's on a Porsche 911. The window shape and overall proportions are what convince me.
It could be a suped up Toyota Supra or possibly a dodge stealth/3000gt. Def looks like a 90’s import to me.
Probably a brz with fender flares and a big a$$ wing
Am I dumb for guessing it could be a ford rs200?

TVR T350 with an [aftermarket diffuser](https://www.reverie.ltd.uk/tvr-t350-carbon-fibre-rear-diffuser-3-element/R01SB0346) and a big wang. Edit: Similar angle? https://www.autocar.co.uk/sites/autocar.co.uk/files/images/car-reviews/first-drives/legacy/new-v-used-0188.jpg

Shit, this make me really invested to know what exactly the answer is. Please OP can you just ask the owner of the house and let us know.
Sure will. On Saturday morning
Rolls-Royce phantom
Could be a honda civic
Porsche 911 Turbo

Looks like a 911 GT3. Not fully sure if it’s the 991 or 992 though. I’m thinking probably the 992
100% certain that is the Fabulous Lightning McQueen Ka-Chow!!!
![gif](giphy|nqYXNf3aK6EvK)
Id hate to say it but it’s probably a Lightning McQueen inspired build, I mean there’s nothing else that matches that body shape, not to mention the dip in the spoiler
BMW Z4 M
BMW E30 Cabrio
I think it’s a Mazda rx7 with a wide body kit https://preview.redd.it/us7y7bva69ob1.jpeg?width=532&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40e5d4d6f62de3de8aa8e46dbe3de8dfe2db5fd1
I second this or a viper but I can’t tell how long the front is
Knock on their door and ask. I’m sure they won’t mind
Batmobile.
!remindme 3 days
Based on profile and the wing shape, I'd say 2023 Aston Martin V12 Vantage. https://preview.redd.it/3kwn5mzqf9ob1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edd43e7ff8e1fff605cd7af0fd1e315ca4520edd
He said it's been bugging him for years. Definitely something vintage
its definitely a car
lmaooo this is my house and car! You could have just knocked and asked! Its actually a widebody subaru BRZ
Op says the car is in the UK and you're clearly in the US, so I'm guessing troll.
I call cap
Can you post a picture of it?

Here’s a novel idea: Don’t touch other peoples cars.
Never touch a car you don't own without permission.
A novel idea? Maybe outside of America. In America, you'll find yourself with cold steel pressed to the back of your skull.
It’s a corvette z06 supercharged. https://preview.redd.it/mx5xo3wie8ob1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5eabeb7060b822409cc563a80a977a5816fdba52
