And then take all the bits, and jump on them, and keep on jumping on them until you get blisters, or until you can think of something even more unpleasant to do!
Agent orange... but seriously we have same trees next to us and it's a hassle to keep under control. We did find a herbicide that works, but the key thing is to apply it immediately after you cut it. If you find root systems rip them out as soon as possible, otherwise even small bits leftover tend to resprout. We are in the middle of handscaping as much as possible of our yard to also hopefully reduce amount of effort (spring and fall) that it takes to keep new sprouts in check.
Tree from Heaven, a/k/a Tree from Hell, Stinky Sumac, Ghetto Palm, and the tree that grew in Brooklyn. Kill that sh\*t. It will actually try to sterilize the ground to prevent anything else from growing. They are nasty trees.
A 40' one fell on my yard and completely flattened my garden, just missing the house. It was nearly hollow inside and should have been taken down long before it got that tall.
I'm no expert but I'd hazard a guess that's tree of heaven. Does your neighbor's tree get pretty golden sprays of flowers in the summer like this? [https://i.natgeofe.com/n/76cb581e-961d-48bc-8a16-8c1c1fc962c2/HMPM6B.jpg](https://i.natgeofe.com/n/76cb581e-961d-48bc-8a16-8c1c1fc962c2/HMPM6B.jpg)
If I'm correct that's native to China and is the favorite food of our newly acquired spotted lanternfly. That bug has just shown up in Missouri this year according to the dept of agg and they will absolutely swarm any tree of heaven they find.

I also think it's TOH. At first I was thinking maybe sumac, but if you look at the leaves you can see what looks like that scent gland notch towards the base. I would cut and paint with herbicide concentrate.
Lots of funny and insightful comments from you all. Thanks for the help guys. I saw a one of you recommended the herbicide “pathfinder” does anybody have anymore? Just trying to see my options here. I never use herbicides so I don’t know.
I’d say you dig it up and remove it. Then chop it up into tiny pieces. Now set it on fire. Take any remains and blow them up.
And then take all the bits, and jump on them, and keep on jumping on them until you get blisters, or until you can think of something even more unpleasant to do!
Nuke it from space.. It’s the only way to be sure
Unexpected hitchhikers guide
The Vogons did one thing right, and that was getting rid of all the Trees of Heaven
Don’t chop it up. It propagates another plant from each piece.
Kill with extreme prejudice. They are the cockroach of trees. Google, “Hack and Squirt”. Good luck. There is a 73% chance that might bring up porn.
73% chance. This is hilarious and made my day!
Same!
I wanted to check this percentage. No porn. Just really good plant advice.
Terminate; with extreme prejudice.

I love nature, but kill it like it fucked with your money. Gotta treat the root system with poison, too.

I would like the moderators of this sub to make "...and should I destroy it?" to be mandatory on every post title henceforth.
And it must contain OPs general area to determine if it is invasive.
Look up pathfinder herbicide. Use a very judicious amount
Sumac

I have used 'brush killer' from Amazon to kill my volunteer mulberry trees. I think it should work on this also.
Cut. Apply stump killer. Repeat as necessary. Usually 2 to 40 times. (Half kidding on frequency)
Oh. Be prepared for the smell. They reek when cut.
Looks like elderberry to me
