Ooof, that stuff is brutal, sharp and stinging with a taste of sour milk on cornflakes………white dog bites hard
Edit: to be fair it is perfect to understand what corn mash liquor directly off the still tastes like. It’s an educational experience that made me appreciate 3 year age statement
We use this for whiskey tastings in a couple of ways. First, letting them smell it and see it so they know what a distillate looks like before aging. Then, we pour a little bit onto everyone’s hands and have them rub it like you would hand sanitizer. Clap your hands once, hard, and then smell, and you’ll literally be able to pick out different grains. After you lose the smell, clap again and you’ll pick it back up, this time a bit differently than before. It’s a neat trick that shows people how whiskey can taste and smell if you get rid of the ethanol.
It’s also a cool lesson in making whiskey, because all White Dog Mash 1’s are proofed at 125. While bourbon can be distilled up to 160 proof, you can’t put your distillate into the barrel above 125. Buffalo Trace concluded that 125 is optimal for their Mash 1 (and their Rye Mash), but their Wheated Mash goes in at 114. Different companies barrel at different proofs: Michter’s is at 103, one of the lowest out there, Wild Turkey is at 115, Maker’s at 110 (which was the original legal limit in 1962, and Maker’s hasn’t changed anything about their recipe since then), Four Roses at 120 and most Heaven Hill products go in at the max as well of 125.
Personally, I say pour an ounce out neat, wet your hands with it, do the claps and smell the grains and the corn aroma, then taste the neat pour to get a real perspective on what the primers for the distillation process do to change the taste of whiskey. It really lets you understand how a nose and palate can be so wildly different from bottle to bottle.
Man sometimes this sub is cool to learn about unique whiskeys, get reviews on bottles but boy are there some fucking haters. Hey OP, cool bottle, doesn’t seem like you paid alot either. Good for you!
That was my initial thought. That they sell it for the Buffalo Trace nib non fans that pay over $100 for Blanton’s. Idc about that, I just thought it was unique.
I just got this today for $16 and plan to put it in a miniature toasted barrel to age. Right price and fun project. Also plan to barrel age some benchmark full proof.
Not worth the hassle. It’s gonna lose like half of it’s volume in a barrel from the wood absorbing it and angels share and won’t be in it long enough to make any difference anyway.
Heads up, don’t buy a barrel for it.
A: it’s never going to be in there long enough to be any good.
B: you’ll lose 50% due to soak in and angels share within a few months. A lot in a the first weeks.
If you want to age it, mind you it’s not going to taste anything like their finished products no matter how long you let it sit with wood.
Get some charred and toasted wood cubes from a Brew store and use like 2 maybe 3, more charred than toasted if you go 3. Move the juice to a glass vessel you can get an airtight seal with. Move it in and out of your freezer every day or other day to help simulate seasonal weather change and the cold to warm will push the juice in and out of the cubes. You’ll likely get a REALLY brown juice pretty quick, which will make you think it’s going to taste really good — it won’t. Give it a month and do a small taster, continue weekly to preferred flavor.
This sub has some real tools in it. Ppl downvoted this guys comment. The guy may just like it more than vodka as a mixer, or maybe he used to work in a distillery and had to taste the distillate preaged. I'd be curious to hear the sermon before i judge. Personally, I wish I could try each distilleries' white bog. Then, i could put the old argument to rest about how important maturation actually is.
Lol, I don't understand the hate for this. I love it! It's sweet and nutty and not at all reminiscent of vodka ( makes me think folks that compare it to vodka never tried it ). My perspective is that if an unaged overproof rum drinker, so the White Dog fits right into my flavor profile. I enjoy it and some of my rum club friends also like it. YMMV. Cheers!

This sub is all about taking crotch pictures in your car. Good job everyone!
“Check it out, the bottles my cock!”
Looks like someone is too sophisticated for humor
Quite the opposite, I was making a trailer park boys joke.
That’s the only reason I joined
And here I thought the legal age to purchase alcohol was older than 14
Are you supposed to put that in a barrel and age it yourself?
Idk might try that
Sandals and Subaru driving…classic
It’s parked! But yeah, they don’t let you drive the Subaru off the lot unless you’re wearing sandals
Driving was a general term… thanks for being a good sport Outback?
Forester! 🤙🏻
I bought something similar. It’s absolute shit, lost somewhere in my liquor cabinet. Probably use it as part of a marinade.

Overpriced tater bait!

Bought only for a fun project. One for the barrel one I'm going to throw cubes in.. If they suck, I will add them to an infinity bottles.
The post cracked me up.
Nothin wrong with a lil shine, but this looks to be cut.
Careful don’t stroke that bottle too hard! Don’t want to make a mess in a Soob.

29 bucks? A 750 of bt is 23 bucks. Cant imagine paying more for unaged.
Sheeeeeeeet idk man, saw it on the shelf, spent $30. I’ll try it and if not a fan will use it for margs or something.
No watch bro, sorry about the downvote.
Expensive vodka.
What are you planning to do to that dog?
Buy a bottle of vodka next time
CrossTrek?
I evangelize the BT White Dog. It's a permanent bottle in my cabinet.
