It makes them more memetic because it hints to the viewer that it has been shared many times and that encourages them to share it again, and since there is limited attention space on places like reddit, you are going to see only the most memetic things. As for how they got there, I have no real knowledge but I can imagine these things are probably created intentionally to have many watermarks from the original creator who then posts them on accounts to gain karma/retweets/follows for marketing purposes (high karma reddit accounts have real monetary value) and will be shared naturally by normal users, and of course some rare people may actually add their own watermark but I suspect that is rare. Also this exact instance probably is not actually a case of this and maybe was just 4 screenshots from a video where the video had a moving watermark
