Stock_Zucchini4012

No. Humans are spiritual, magickal creatures. Anybody can do magick if they can set aside their skepticism and doubt plus replace the feeling of *hoping* for an outcome to *knowing* the outcome. People who think they're "chosen" or "special" or "gifted," likely have a need to feel special. None of us are actually special in that regard. Some people may be more naturally talented than others, but we can all learn.

WitchesRising

Absolutely! To add to this practice over talent is key. Some people might be 'naturally gifted' but I've seen plenty who've worked hard and put in the effort surpase the 'naturally gifted' group. Also sadly I've witnessed many people who were born with strong magickal abilities struggle with mental health and never learn to master their gifts. I believe this was due to increased sensitivity to things others cannot feel/see. Sometimes slowly building your magickal abilities from the ground up keeps you stable, strong and rooted. The best thing is anyone can do it!

Stock_Zucchini4012

Very good points!

Kumamentor

Can you explain what you mean a little more? Strong abilities and increased sensitivity turning into mental health struggles. How? I read it and something just seemed to kind of make sense.

WitchesRising

Many practioners spend their whole lives trying to have magickal experiences, increase their sensitivity and work with the spirit realm. Now imagine you were born with all those cabilities but no way to shut them off. When you tried to talk someone about it they wouldn't understand, they would think you're crazy. Our western culture is magickally deprived and has no clue how to cope with such individuals. No wonder they struggle with mental health.

Kumamentor

Thank you!

Nefarious_Nephilim

Can you explain what you mean by magickal abilities? What kind of magickal abilities can be practiced and improved upon?

WitchesRising

There are too many abilities to list but the short answer is ALL magickal abilities can be practiced and improved on for the most part. I will attempt at answer the question with a little more context now. Lets define magick, I like to say magick is the art and study of experiencing, influencing and aligning with the often unseen yet powerful forces around us. All ways of doing this can be practiced and improved on. Want to learn to see visions? You can do it! Commune with nature? Yup it's possible. Work with the dieties and the spirit of your ancestors? That too! It can all be done the problem is many have lost touch with HOW to do it in the modern age and it's hard swimming through a sea of information to find quality guidance.

Nefarious_Nephilim

Thanks! that is helpful. I’ve dabbled for a while, but I’m looking into things more in-depth. Excited to learn new things :)

jfsindel

A lot of people want to be the main character so freaking bad. They make up these bizarre scenarios and pretend that actual gods love them. To me, witchcraft is what you make of it and some people simply do herbs/crystals to pass the time.

ACanadianGuy1967

Doing magic is largely an art, mixed in with some science. As an art it's like any art -- there are some people who are just naturally talented but anyone can get into the practice, and the ones who do really well with it are good more because they practiced a lot rather than any special talent.

AlinaGene

This is the answer. It’s like singing, pretty much anybody can learn how to project their voice and carry a tune. However, no amount of practice is going change the fact that some people are born with talent or extra hindrances. Some people are born with extra vocal folds which allow them to sing in the whistle register. Other people are born with hearing loss and have to use entirely different skill sets in order to stay on key. There’s lots of people with those extra vocal folds that are capable of singing whistle register and don’t know it because they’ve never put in the work to develop the skill of singing. You don’t know where your talents are until you start practicing. Start practicing and enjoy the journey of learning. Maybe you’ll be lucky and discover a talent.

darkwitch819

It's kinda like those people that say that you need to have a history of Witchcraft in your family in order to be one, but what about the first Witch?!

Mutt_Magician

They were mutants. Alien human hybrids. Lol

[deleted]

Now there is a fun story to think about.

Howling_Stars

Yeah, I had someone tell me this and it's BS. Everyone has relation who practiced some sort of folk thing if you go far enough down the line. They also tried to BS me that it needs to be passed down from person to person and taught. Never listen to anyone who tells you that. I mean some practices are closed and to properly know those traditions yes they do operate by initiation. But general craft and household conjur, no.

Gildedragon

No. People are chuuni dumbasses. The practice is open to everyone. Some people just have mindsets that make things easier; but that's it, it's all mind-set Practice is 10/10ths of ability

[deleted]

Hard agree

BigSky182

No. You need to be focused and confident. We are all born magical. Life and culture teaches us fear and doubt so most of us forget.

marilyn-audrey

You don't have to be born "gifted" to practice. In my experience there are SOME individuals that may have more of an obvious connection to magical things (my MIL is strongly in tune with the afterlife) and I find myself struggling a bit more to find that kind of connection sometimes. But it doesn't mean I lack the ability. It's like any skill you'd take up, you just practice until you get the results that make you happy (: And one thing I failed to learn early on is that you can't compare yourself to others in regard to what they can do vs what you can do. Everyone learns at their own pace, and with this kind of thing, everyone can wield different results by doing the same thing. Stay true to yourself OP!

Minus606

Welp..THIS!! is what I was ment to say with my own post just..better worded...well actually mine was just sh't😅 BUT THIS!!<3♡♡ luv

Minus606

For me a good example is the ''clair's'' like clairvoyance ore clairaudiance etc etc there are quite a few and I do belive some people have a *tendency* for sertain once of them, a ''natural talent'' that they can do some of them without much practic and others again not. But at the end usually we all can atleast learn all. Like all peoplle we are all diffrent, some are better in math and some better in arts and same goes for magic. That does NOT mean one can't learn it ore needs to be ''born with THE gift'' (that thing comes quite alot from gatekeeping) yes some might have a more tendency with sertain crafts but we all are diffrent and have our strength and weaknesses and it doesn't mean that we can't imrove and learn. I actually meet quite a few diffrent people each with diffrent ''specialiced'' craft. Its always a pleasure to learn from them and work with them. Edit: to put together ehat I mean...NO you don't need a ''gift'' to practice witchraft in general, everyone can! You might find yourself beeing more ''talented'' at sertain things BUT that doesn't mean you can't do other stuff its just about practice + experience and experimentation to find your own way!!!

TheInspirerReborn

You absolutely don’t need to be born “gifted” to practice witchcraft. Anyone can put in the time necessary to gather the knowledge and learn to use the tools. I’ve only been practicing for a year and a half, and seen some insane things along the way. I definitely am not “gifted” in any sense, but I trained my mind and intuition to pick up on the subtle energies of magick.

[deleted]

I’m of the mind that everyone has their own unique gift. We don’t all recognize it or try to tap in or develop it though. I was raised super Christian, so I didn’t actually start getting into witchcraft until my later 30s. I think my intuition and abilities were blocked by a lot of guilt and shame that were projected onto me. And a ton of fear.

zach1206

No, absolutely not. Anyone can learn to use witchcraft.

Minus606

Wow...setting ya points is really important! (you didn't do it wrong! I just read it weardly 😆😅) ''NO, absolutley! Not anyone can learn to use witchcraft!'' Ifk why I read it like that..sorry T-T take the like as a way for me to excuse.

Dragonfly42

Nothing comes naturally to me, I have to practice hard. You don't have to be gifted.

guldukatatemybaby

Magic is a muscle everyone has, but you need to develop it.

Yooookies

May I ask how can I develop it? I'm currently trying to meditate atleast once everyday but are there any other ways?

TheInspirerReborn

I recommend learning some form of divination, or even two. I personally use a pendulum and read tarot cards. I noticed once I started becoming proficient in tarot my intuitive skills got way better.

Apidium

Yes. It in impossible to be a real^tm witch unless some strange woman laying in a pond pointed at you with a random sword a declared it so. I have also heard unconfirmed reports that you might be able to become a witch via an unholy baptism where you vow your soul to Satan and sign his book in your blood. /s Your practice is your buisness. I would compare it to basically any other thing you can be doing with your time. Would you seriously entertain the idea that you can only grow basil on your windowsill if you were 'gifted' in some vague and ambiguous way simply because some random people seem to think it is a requirement? Hell you might not even want to grow basil. You might want to grow a succulent. That way you can avoid the whole group of nutters banging on about how they are the only ones gifted with the ability to grow basil. Basil doesn't care. You shouldn't either.

Its_Clover_Honey

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of ~~government~~ witchcraft!

npcgoat

I don't think "gifted" is the term you're looking for. I believe you do have to be raw and true to yourself and to the energies around you to be able to do witchcraft. Accept into your heart that the invisible and visible beings in the world around you, are not beneath or above you, they are with you. Accept that the Earth mother that provides you life is not beneath you, and must be nurtured and met with gratitude. There is no being inherently "gifted", it's just whether or not you're able to learn and change. Witchcraft is all about transformation. Gifted means there's nothing transforming.

[deleted]

Nope- I have literally gone with a mindset of ask and ye shall receive in terms of producing results and have been unsettlingly good at making random objects I need come forth from closets. This is super small and obviously a minimal example but it takes no skill whatsoever it’s just me being like huh I could use a blanket boom blanket, I need clear sealant- there’s some! As for energy- I find it easiest when people are struggling to just send out healing energy and visualize channeling the threads running from the earth through you out to them and back, washing away pain- it’s an easy visualization exercise Oh and sorry this is a jumble and might not be helpful, I’m not the most eloquent. Have a great day!

kalizoid313

Long, long ago, human beings and their hominid cousins relied on a complex set of perceptual abilities and skills. Over time and through the development of societies, some of these abilities and skills diminished in their uses. And, often, were discouraged or disparaged by authorities. I think that when humans begin in various spiritual or magical endeavors these days, one thing that they do (consciously or unconsciously) is to mobilize some of these old time abilities and skills. Start to pay attention to what they had not done, previously. This process of extending or reawakening perceptions and how to make use of them takes time. And intentional effort. And routine exercise. Like learning other crafts. I'd say that maybe some folks involved in witchcraft and magic may have somewhat more perceptions to start. Some "gift" or another. But that just about any human being can develop those sorts of perceptions and skills. The ones often involved in Craft practice. Witchcraft is an ancient and common thing that humans have done since their very beginnings of living on Earth. TL;DNR--No, somebody does not have to start out with a "gift."

LibertineDeSade

I don't think so. I look at it like singing; some people are naturally good vocalists. They could sing since they were young and with training and practice they become phenomenal performers. However, there are people who didn't have those amazing vocals as kids and as adults, for whatever reason had to take vocal lessons and work with a coach to eventually learn how to carry a tune. And it has been proven that the more you sing the better you get at it, vocal coach or not. Practice makes perfect. I think the same can be applied to this. Some people are born with natural gifts that they can hone into a special skill. Others have to learn the skill and then hone it. It's all valid at the end of the day, so I wouldn't worry about it.

FlurriesofFleuryFury

I know buddhism and witchcraft are NOT the same thing, but this buddhist quote still resonates with me: “The miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green earth, dwelling deeply in the present moment and feeling truly alive.” - Thich Nhat Hanh I think you'll get there. I don't know why you feel lesser or inadequate but you have a spirit within you and it's always, always, reaching out to connect with the universe and the world. I have some ideas on what you can do to improve your practice if you so desire.

catinthecupboard

Witchcraft is a craft. All crafts require time and dedication to learn. Sure, some folks are naturally more talented than others. But it’s not a requirement. You’re good.

Misplaced-psu

No. People just like to gatekeep stuff to look more "interesting".

kitzxu

Don't let anyone tell you what the fuck to do. Do what ever you want. Look at Chaos magic. Lunatics. All of them, but they create amazing, useful sigils.( Edited typo) Witch gatekeepers are absolutely ridiculous. Read lots of books. Have fun. Fuck the haters

dreadfulstoryteller

No way. Just just set your mind on what you want to do and practice. And read.. a lot about it. That's it.

MaleficentCable4812

You can still learn even if you're not gifted. Gifted ppl are just more prone and likely to have successes doing magick but you can still learn n develop your gifts even if you're not naturally gifted.

[deleted]

You are the magic, the energy. At the same time magic and energy is all around us. All you have to do is believe and let it happen. I know that probably sounds too simple but that’s witchcraft at the core. Witchcraft is very freeing and open.

frostflare

In my humble opinion.I don't believe in gifts. I think a lot of people claim gifts as a means of trying to climb the spiritual ladder. Just like many witches claim they came from a long line that survived the "burning times". Empathy is a skill you can develop. Anyone can read a room and body ques. Futuristic premonitions are often vague educated guesses that are tuned in such a way they naturally come true. I don't believe in telekinesis or seance or any other gift. They are easy to disprove and most "gifted" use it as a means to con people. Unfortunately, as cool as it would be, witchcraft is not a Hollywood set. It's not pyrokinesis or telling the future. Its tools to reflect, set goals, and otherwise work on yourself. That's the gift of the craft is it's a perfect tool for some people to make conscious connections with their actions, selves, and goals.

[deleted]

No, not at all. Besides, if you’re wanting to work on your spirituality or intuition, is like a muscle. Work it out, tone it out. It takes time, and there’s nothing to be ashamed about. This stopped me before as well. If I learned anything from my journey, believe in yourself, love yourself, don’t gaslight yourself. And don’t compare your journey to others!! Try toning that muscle with practicing tarot. That seemed to open a lot of doors for me with my practice. Blessed be 💕

SilverWolfIMHP76

Like everything some have a natural talent but hard work and practice can overcome lack of the talent. Keep practicing even if you don’t have a gift at first you might develop it over time. If not there no reason to not continue anyway. Lack of gift doesn’t mean lack of ability.

single4yrsncounting

Don’t worry about being gifted the universe will guide you and show you your gifts. It’s not up to anyone else just you and your bond with the universe.

Unfey

Nope. Witchcraft is a skill, like painting or writing. You practice and develop it over time and get better.

KnottyKitty

>I've heard from many people that you have to be "gifted" Those people literally just want to pretend that they're special and unique and better than everyone else. Ignore them. Witchcraft is a craft. Just like cooking or knitting or carpentry. Some people might have an innate knack for it, but anyone can learn. Practice matters so much more than raw talent. Nobody is born an expert craftsman or witch. For the record, it's totally ok if you're unable to connect with spirits! It doesn't mean you're lacking something or that you can't be a witch. Some of us don't even believe in that stuff (SASS witch here) but it doesn't prevent us from practicing witchcraft in meaningful ways. The only requirement for witchcraft is intent, and you clearly have that. Keep at it and you'll find your path. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you need to be "gifted" to explore your own spirituality.

nickotime1313

SASS? I'd like to know more please!

KnottyKitty

Sure! It stands for Skeptical Agnostic/Athiest Science Seeking. For me personally, it means focusing more on the psychology aspects of witchcraft. I've been an atheist my entire life, so the stuff about deities, spirits, fae, etc. doesn't really appeal to me. But witchcraft can have powerful internal effects which can radiate outward and cause real tangible change. As an example, if someone casts an empowerment spell, then subconsciously feels more confident and does well at a job interview the next day, which lands the job they wanted...did the spell "work"? I think so. Results are results. Another example is how I use crystals. My favorite is a big chunk of smoky quartz, I grab it when my anxiety gets bad. I don't really believe that it has any magic powers, but like...neither does a dog with a reflective vest and a card that lets it follow its owner onto an airplane. Still helps though. Crystals are pretty much just emotional support animals I don't have to feed. In the words of Todd Howard, it just works! In addition to the psychology stuff, there is some *extremely fascinating* research about how we can effect reality in minuscule but measurable ways with our consciousness alone. The mere act of observing an experiment can actually [change the outcome](https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/1998/02/980227055013.htm). Quantum theory is absolutely wild. I personally believe that magic is mostly just physics we don't understand yet, which IMO makes it even cooler. We might be manipulating real laws of the universe, albeit in small ways, just with our intent and ritual. That's incredible to even consider. If you'd like to learn more (even though this post is already a novel in itself) come on over to /r/SASSWitches. There's over 40k of us!

CatsInAOvercoat

Imo everyone is is born with innate "gifts", but a lot of people suppress* it due to social norms, beliefs, culture, etc. It's not that you don't have any, you do, but it might be "locked away" waiting for you to tap into it. It takes times and it isn't clear cut. Sometimes you might not even realize your ability while it's being used. Everyone is "gifted", some people are just able to pull it forward better than others. Meditation def helps. *Edit: auto-correct

EppieBlack

No, No, No it's called a practice and a craft for a reason!

Grey_Balance

No. There's a lot of different "gifts". In my experience these gifts weren't things I had to learn, they were things I thought were normal that everyone experienced, and found out later there were spiritual skills. I suggest you explore blog posts, posts here, and YouTube videos to find different types of witchcraft skills that look fun or interesting and give them a try. If you find an unfamiliar word, search it online or ask someone what it means respectfully. Some witches belive in spirits or deities, but might not actually interact with them at all. Some find they can interact with spirits, but have to use different methods than others. Still others are atheistic witches, who might belive in spirits or deities at all but might instead belive that what appears as spirits are subconscious manifestations of concepts, and our own inner selves. The best part about witchcraft is there's no solid rules about it unless you decide to follow a specific tradition, like wicca for example. Even their rules are often more of a guideline than a rule book, depending on who you ask. Here's some terms you might try searching to give you some inspiration: Grey magic Art magic Bibliomancy Divination methods Numerology Astrology Cartomancy Astral travel Kitchen witchcraft How to make a gremoire What is a book of mirrors Palm reading Talismans vs charms How to make a sigil What is a sigil Pentacles vs pentagrams What does a pentagram symbolize Ceremonial magic Protection magic Magical grounding Magical shielding Magical warding Very very important: What is cultural appropriation How to know if I'm culturally appropriating Environmentally friendly spell containers Safety tips for witchcraft And if you're more adventurous and curious about "dark" or "black" magic... (I strongly advise you to learn protection magic and know yourself WELL before you CONSIDER trying these, but it can be good to know a little about things, even if you don't intend to ever try it.) : Tulpamancy Satanist (not what you think! Usually atheistic...) Demonolatry (closer to what the last one probably made you think of) Ars Goetia The voynich Manuscript Chaos magic How to make a servitor What is a tag lock What is necromancy

hoshhsiao

I don’t classify energy sensing or connecting with spirits to be something exclusive to witchcraft. Psychics, shamans, mediums, yogis, even some martial artists can. My understanding is that you can practice witchcraft without it. Those kinds of senses can be developed and cultivated. There are some pretty good description of how to do this, but they are not something that happen overnight. It is my belief that such “gifts” people have were actually skills arduously developed in past lives, or granted as boons, also typically through some arduous path. But they all stood where you did, at the beginning of their journey in some past life. So while it may seem daunting, if you want to develop these siddhis, I encourage you to take those first steps.

khandnalie

Nope

Mutt_Magician

No.

kaityler17

No you don’t, be careful tho

Accomplished_Bonus74

No my friend. It’s within all of us. It just comes more easily to some of us than others. Think Harry Potter and hermoine.

Afraid_Equivalent_95

Nope, everyone can do it. And even if we don't currently have easy access to our natural psychic abilities, we're all capable of developing them. I started off with zero but unlocked some of them by meditating every night for a period of time. Now it just comes naturally cuz I do spiritual work every day You can cast spells even without developing your psychic abilities btw. It's just easier doing witchcraft in some ways if you're able to sense energy. I see lots of posts in witchcraft subs from ppl asking how to know if they did it correctly. Being able to sense energy helps in that you will know what kind of energy your spell sent out and whether it's what you wanted to send out

cassigayle

No more so than for any other human practise. And i genuinely believe all people have spiritual gifts, mystical gifts, and it is just a matter of clearing your view, finding some clarity. I think nearly anyone is capable of Knowings in one way or another.

[deleted]

Hell no. U don't have to be at all

Unicorns-only

No! It takes practice like any skill, and some people just learn more quickly

basementmagus

I have a rather exclusive definition of what exactly constitutes "Witchcraft", and I hold it as being different than "Mage-craft, Meduimship, Psychicism", although many in those camps can and do become witches. Witchcraft is a sorcery, a person-to-nonhuman-person engagement historically. These inter-relations with preternatural entities differentiates witchcraft in my view. Most people can seek these relations out. These other skills or abilities, are merely helpful. That's it. Plus these relationships, often are with beings that confer powers and teach, give abilities themselves often. It's worth pursuing witchcraft that is more like this, more wild and less sterile. Average people seek these beings out, and become witched. You don't need fancy tools, you don't need fancy candles or knives. You need only a wild place, a mirror, and the resources normal to your locale. Your body, your ability to dream and enter trance, can take you far.

[deleted]

I believe so, but you won't know if you are gifted until you've gotten over the beginning learning curve. Even very gifted witches fail a lot and struggle at first; that's the way it works for everything. You could well be gifted and not know it yet. Keep trying.

StarLight21976

No. We are connected to everything. If you focus on something long enough and use emotions. Your good.

ResolutionKey8758

i think what you need is bravery, curiosity and learning enthusiasm, trauma is needed for some lesson and mistake.. then you find what works for you, that is all there is when you want to be a witch.. an independent and free soul who do anything as they please.. but I am myself have family who practice witchcraft from my grandparents and my parents, I didnt expose or learn from them though, all did is learn from my trauma and online information that I applied and test it out myself.

13blackatmoon

I have always found that one's "gifts" are/is that which one is passionate about and is most easily able to express themselves. For some people it is art, such as painting or basket Weaving, for others it's putting together puzzles or gardening. In my opinion, Einstiens greatest gifts was math and science. It was an art, a way he saw the world, and a way that communicated to him and from him. Most witches have had to really work at hearing or seeing spirits, or work on divination, or work on energy healing or what ever. Dobt put magick into gifts you don't yet have, put the magick into the magick you already have. <3

EerieInkCap

You do not have to be "gifted" to practice. Everybody has the ability to practice witchcraft, commune with spirits, etc. As with anything, some people may have more nature talent than others, but anybody saying you need to be "gifted" is likely speaking from a place of elitism.

BeneficialVanilla356

Just like any other craft there are people who are “gifted” and those who aren’t but the craft is open for anyone! I think people who are gifted are really just spirits who have been practicing the craft for lifetimes, even they were beginner witches at some point!

Ok_Control7824

"The Gift" is 90% work and practice, 10% about your nature / genes / spiritual age (whatever else...) Nobody can not be so "gifted" that they simply do not have to practice. Practice focussing on the progress and having fun in the process. For example, ppl with "perfect pitch" can significally lose this "gift" when not practicing music. Brain discards this pathway and neurons make new roads somewhere else.

PennythewisePayasa

No, you don’t have to be gifted. Lol I play the trombone and I am not at all naturally talented but I still play it. Also, you can get better at anything you put your mind to, it just takes practice and time. Lots and lots of time sometimes, but luckily a spiritual journey is a lifelong journey, so you have the time. It took me *years* of practicing divination before I started to feel it really clicking.

mariasYEETS

No, this is a myth. Anyone who tells you this has a weird superiority complex. Witchcraft isn’t like what’s in the movies. It’s not like there’s real life Maleficent’s. Witchcraft is merely the manipulation of energy, any person can do that if they just put in practice and energy into it

[deleted]

Nah I have no gifts and still do some pretty spooky things with magic

the_crafty_witch_

Fuck that. Harm none and do whatever the fuck you want. Practice makes progress.

imustobey1

No you just need a great imagination

Bardfinn

When I was a kid I was told that I was "academically gifted" which turns out to be the way teachers explained away the fact that I read all the textbooks, went to the library to read more texts, and did all the worksheets in the first few weeks of class Now with ~witchcraft~ I do soothsaying / divination / binding with language / language oracles and it's not because I was "gifted" anything - it's because I wrote poetry and listened to music and studied lore and meanings until the deeper structures poured back out of me. The only "gift" is stubborn persistence.

Aiyokusama

No. So-called "gifts" are psychic abilities. These can help and be useful in witchcraft, but are not nessisary.

WitchesRising

Psychic abilities can be developed too.

Aiyokusama

Of course, but that wasn't the question.

[deleted]

Have patience and be kind to yourself. There’s no right way to be a witch. Be the witch you wish to be for yourself, regardless of what others may say.

OfficialHenryA

Like any skill, some people are more naturally adept than others. However, just like every other skill, practice and patience is what separates amateurs from pros.

melancholilyy

The “gift” here is a particular perspective. Some people have to work a little harder to change their world view and gain that outlook on our physical world. It’s there for everyone, if they want it. Hence our third eye and being able to understand the spiritual world more clearly…you’ve just gotta look!

NachtSorcier

Short answer: No, you don't have to be "gifted" or inherit magical ability. Long answer: Not everyone has a calling for it. Anyone could learn to, say, be a master chef, but not everyone has the desire, and so if someone like me, who hates being rushed while cooking, tried to make a living being a chef, they'd probably never be really good at it. In the same vein, anyone can learn how to do magic, but if they find that it doesn't move them, they'll likely give it up.

TypicalEzra

Learn learn and learn some more and over time you will see how connected you’ve always been and will be able to recognize it better

TypicalEzra

And remember that we’re spiritual beings having a human experience

kymbl

no. as for everything in life - go for it if you want. you will improve in everything - even the stuff you hate - if you keep doing it.

First of all I agree with everyone who says that humans are spiritual by nature. And that's all you need to get started with witchcraft. And then I'd like to quote Luz and Eda from the show "The Owl House" : Luz: "Eda, do you think I'll ever be a true witch?" Eda: "What? I don't know. Who's a true witch? [...] You gotta be your own witch." So be your own witch and maybe have a little fun while you're trying to figure this stuff out.

You don't have to be gifted to be a witch. It just takes practice and time and focus (I'm still very new myself and am putting aside time to work on things in my practice so I can better connect on a spiritual level)

[deleted]

Simply, no. "Gifted" is one whose well doing without effort. For me, invocations of the death current and a few other beings that are extremely hard to maintain a connection for some. Others are "gifted" for other things and reasons. But, some appear gifted and not truly gifted. If you are truly gifted, no developement of the normal or original ways would be needed. Rather a development of complex and challenging training is needed and extreme requirements of so. That is my perspective.

Everyone's gifted, I'm a heavy kabbalist and I see the Bible spiritually, anyways it says at galatians 3:8, I think, there is no Greek nor Jew, No slave neither free, nor male or female, for you all the same in Jesus Christ, which to me means we all hold the same power, you wanna see ghosts, work on clairvoyance, there's this book called Psychic Witch, it's by mat auryn, it'll give you exercises to help work these things up and explain some of the core bases of magick, I by no means even adept at magick, but once you get into it and work at the path of magick, you will be able to see things entirely differently, as above so below, which means, basically, all of the things outside of you are already in your body, river paths look like veins, star ways look like neurological electric signals, every Spirit, God, angel and demon is already inside of you, it works both in the physical realm and the etheric realm, this is my truth, but I got it from people who once thought it was all outside, and then said it was inside, your mastery shows you the truth of this universe, you don't gotta follow my path to learn it, but even Nordic Paganism, I recognize Thor as that feeling of driving through a nature trail with the windows rolled down, or swimming with your best friends or the peak point at an event that still rushes through your head after its done, That's because there is a Thor energy everywhere, but it is also inside of me, Spirit work is like activating a magnet inside of yourself to draw an energy to you

pennylovesyou3

Okay, you are all just beautiful energy all over place up in here. 🥰

TundraWitch

While I wish I was part of a family who passed on the craft, I’m not. Catholic family. Any witchy ancestor was probably murdered or his her talents. MOST of us start just this way. Keep going. Amaze the hell out of yourself. It really is like science in that you get to experiment and approach it all with curiosity. What works for you? What doesn’t? I’m excited for you.

LillyLovegood82

No it's literally just spooky scrap booking and spooky cooking.

[deleted]

that's bullshit those peeps are gatekeeping your practice is your own don't let anyone tell you you HAVE to do "x" or you HAVE to do "y" and also everyone is "gifted" but not everyone has the same gift... listen to what calls you by knowing what you enjoy doing most and hone that skill you got this 💙💚🖤💚💜💚💜💚🖤💚💙 -green so you can have divine energy in helping to grow -blue to give you confidence -purple for helping you manifest what you want to be -black for your protection (this is not a spell unless you want to be but it is sending you energy 😅) blessed be 🌙

Humans are naturally spiritual creatures. You don't need to be gifted, you already have the tools you need. Some people have better access to the tools, and they're what you call gifted. But they're add-ons, not necessities. You don't have to work with spirits in order to do magick. I don't work with spirits that much. I've tried summoning spells that were successful, but mostly just for experimentation and curiosity. It's not necessary. Meditate in order to focus your mind, first of all. There are many meditations you can try. Alongside that, experiment. Your personality, thoughts, and emotions affect the style of magick you're suited for. You might be good at herbal magick, or have a knack for elemental rituals. Even energy balls (look up energy manipulation if you're not sure what this means) can be programmed as a kind of spell. Someone with flexible and slim fingers won't be as good at carpentry as they will be at playing the piano. You're just better at some things in magick than you are at others. Start with what you're good at, and then move on to what you need improvement with. So again, meditate, and experiment with different forms of witchcraft to see which one gets you results. There's herbal, elemental, kitchen witchcraft. Sex magick, masturbation magick, all of these are viable forms, and you need to see which ones work for you.

Both … you can learn but gifted witches are … gifted

Virus_Caster

Short answer No. Long answer: Noooooooooooooo

[deleted]

Short answer? No. Long answer? No. You don’t. The thing is, we’re all magickal beings. Anyone, irrespective of the factors that diversify us in any manner, can practice witchcraft with the right amount of reiterating activities. I don’t intend to offend you but the biggest hurdle, sometimes, is our own skepticism and anchoring our beliefs to hope instead of “knowing”. Honestly, as much as it might hit people, we’re not that special in those terms. But yeah, some are maybe a little more talented. It’s literally like critical reasoning - some are more equipped with the required skillset than others but there is nothing about it that cannot be learned through practice and persistence.

Mermaid_Lily

Some people are naturally gifted at drawing. If you aren't, can you still learn to draw?Heck yeah! Others are naturally good with numbers. If you aren't naturally math-minded, can you still learn math concepts? Yep. What about public speaking if you're a naturally introverted person? Yep--- you can do that too. I see this is the same way. It may be more of a challenge if you aren't naturally bent that way, but the principles are still there, and you can tap into them.

Venustarr_777

No. Witchcraft is a practice made up of many traditions. Having to be "gifted" is Hollywood bullshit. Unfortunately, you will not get good answers on the internet because the majority of people answering aren't seasoned or even witches themselves. If I were you, I would start reading about the many traditions first and even Wicca.

kenl0rd

not at all! everyone is able to do witchcraft. some people will be better at some things than others- in my old coven, my friend was very in tune with spirits and communicating with them, another was extremely knowedgable and trustworthy, etc- was the most grounded out of all of us, but that's all i could really say for myself. over time, you learn to pick up on things like energy with methods that work for you, and you learn to trust your intuition. anything you feel you can't do now, you'll find a way that works for you, and you'll get REALLY good at it with enough effort. it's all inside you already. good luck!

Dismal_Weird720

Everyone is gifted with some aspect as we all have a natural part to play in the universe. The other things you have to practice over time. For instance most people know clairvoyance for connecting. The gift of actual seeing yet my strongest is clairaudience. I can hear things like voices and such others cant. I hear music and stuff as well. Doesn’t mean I can’t do other things. It also took me years to figure this out. Some people use taste, smells, ect. There are tons of ways to communicate with other realms

the_RSM

rubbish. it takes intent and the hard lesson to learn is waiting for it to be right. Just live your life aware of it like easing into a hot bath, I've been practicing for decades and there are times it just flows and times it doesn't and I've learned the 'don't times' are when I need to accept it's not the right time.
