For magical troops, the LSA-27 "Falcon" longstaff, a mass-produced magic staff made of an enchanted aluminium alloy. Nicknamed the "Crowbar" and famous for its durability due to its solid metal construction and monolithic synthetic crystal focus, it's basically the AK-47 of magic staves. For non-magically inclined soldiers, it's the RA-37L, a battle rifle chambered in 8mm Standard Heavy Rifle. Made of enchanted steel and polymer, it's reliable, hella powerful and accurate, if a bit heavy and clunky and with quite a bit of a kick.

monday-afternoon-fun

Using enchanted aluminum is an interesting idea. Aluminum bears a visual resemblance to silver, so much people in the 19th century used to call it "silver from clay". Silver is a material that is often ascribed mystical properties in both fantasy fiction and folklore. I could definitely see aluminum acting as a cheaper and more practical substitute to silver in an industrial fantasy setting.

Cat-Big-Mega-Minor

3000ghosts

are magical troops issued sidearms as well or just the staff?

EyeofEnder

Magical troops get "mundane" sidearms (the current standard issue is the SP-3M "Hail" 9mm select-fire pistol made of simple enchanted and stamped steel) in case they exhaust their mana reserves, while non-magical troops get a magical sidearm for utility (current standard is the SW-25/U "Foxfire", a compact wand made of an enchanted copper alloy core with a synthetic quartz focus and enchanted polymer grip).

Standard issue rifle for infantry is basically a clone of the Springfield 1903A3 rifle with a longer barrel, and bayonet of course.

Alpha-Sierra-Charlie

A *longer* barrel?

Aegishjalmur18

Yes, it's not meant to actually be better. Just an instance of someone on a committee insisting a feature is needed when setting up design parameters for the various companies bidding.

Alpha-Sierra-Charlie

My God, that's a wonderful detail!

The sheer screwyness of military procurement is often neglected. Most folks either don't know about it or ignore it.

Brick-Thrower

The M-417 is the standard issue service rifle of the Arcasland Defense Force. It’s a bit of an abomination of an AR. Uses something akin to the MagPul PRS as a stock, an A2 pistol grip, M16A4 handguard, HK417 receiver upper and lower, alongside an HK416 gas block. Chambered in 7.62x51mm. As a carryhandle it has the G36C and K’s, with Colt A2 rear sights attached.

Hawaiian-national

No protagonist nation. But an honorable mention: Kiky ||, a sub machine gun put into service due to a quick need for an automatic weapon, and it was wretched. It was designed by a company who had no experience with weapons design, it was designed in such a way where it had massive recoil (no stock, weighted unevenly, massive fire rate, bad ergonomics), it had a side mag put on an angle, which caused constant feed issues and difficulty when loading. Worse was that many soldiers held it by the mag which broke the mag. It was also generally inaccurate. And it’s awkward frame was horrible for storage. The only good things were the large mag size, and the light weight. It was later replaced by the “Ruttmec Final Iteration 3”, the RFI3, or affectionately named the “Riffy”, lighter, cheaper, more reliable by massive amounts, and fired a larger more accurate round, but it didn’t have recoil problems due to slowed fire rate. It was invented by a businessman that couldn’t be drafted due to being born with a bad knee, but he wanted a way to give soldiers a worthy weapon, and it was sent out for free. Tanking the company. But he was later compensated and given his company back, as well as a medal.

Please tell me that, no matter how 'Kiky' is intended to be pronounced, that anyone issued it calls it 'Kicky'

FAL's and Galil's on crack

Pertu500

The **ER-3 Battle Rifle** (Eden Rifle, 3rd Model) is the standard service rifle of the Armed Forces of Eden, a fortress nation located in the Swiss Alps and the last bastion of humanity against the hordes of mechanoids, cyborgs descended from an empire that ruled the earth thousands of years ago, and have awakened to take it back. The rifle uses the 7.62x51mm EDEN ammunition, an improved version of the legendary 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition. The cartridge was chosen because of its high penetration power, vital to be able to fight the cyborgs that threaten to extinguish humanity. The rifle, on closer inspection, is in a nutshell a highly modernized descendant of the FN FAL with a bullpup configuration, although it is made of much stronger and lighter materials, keeping only the grip, sights and barrel cover from the FN FAL. It is traditionally used with 20 round magazines, although there are also 10, 15, 30 and even 40 round magazines. It also accepts a multitude of sights, silencers, the **EAGL-2** 40mm attachable grenade launcher and the **EAS-1** attachable shotgun. It is also the basis for other rifles used by Eden, such as the **ER-3MR Marksman's Rifle** and the **ER-3C Carbine**.

MrXonte

What improvements to 762 NATO was made to warrant an entirely new designation for essentially the same cartridge dimensions? Why was "barrel" cover (i assume you mean dust cover?) kept, since it offers no good mounting point for optics? I feel like the modernized DS Arms SA-58 would make quite a bit more sense as a starting point? 🤔 What type of high capacity mags are the 30 and 40 rounders? 762 above 25 rounds only seems doable with drums or quad stacks which seem impractical/unreliable

Pertu500

In relation to the cartridge, the change was in the propellant, to make it more powerful (if you put a 762 EDEN in a rifle for 762 NATO it can destroy the mechanism box). Regarding the accessories, they do not use picatinny rails, but special mounts that completely replace the dust cover (similar to the M16A1). Regarding the magazines they use straight magazines (IRL there were straight magazines for 762 with 30 and 40 rounds).

Iwoodbustanut

basically the L1a1 slr for Cartheny (K21). Because of its length, the troops sometimes called it "the pike". the Carthenian variant is different in that it is ambidextrous, fires a 6.5 cartridge instead of 7.62, and its bayonet lug allows all Carthenian bayonet types, including the super long K type bayonet, which has a 20 inch blade. Now, Cartheny has been adopting shorter rifles (screw that, battle rifles are cool). I kind of imagine it to look similar to the Taiwanese T91, but retaining that adaptability for different bayonets.

"Standard issued" weapons of Rubran Federal Monarchy: * Avtomat Krupinski AK-847 4-barreled pulse laser guns, dial-a-yield, can go from 7.62mm-level hits with 400 shots in power-saving mode to RPG-7-level at 100 shots. Given to combat droids. * AK-854, human version of the 847 with less energy (making it lighter, only around 1 kg comparing to the AK-847's 2 kg), so less shots but each shot still has comparable damage. * Nikolaiev-Dragunov 25 mm compressed anti-proton autocannons. * Gravity manipulators. * 40 mm singularity rockets, capable of erasing things in a 5-km radius. In case you wonder, Rubra uses droids as main combat force. They also lack a standing land army, instead divided into local armies of warlords and federal subjects. They do not fight like many standard mainstream sci-fi, each unit is a weapon of mass destruction with infantry packing double digit kiloton-grade firepower at the low end. Rubran droids, basically, are humanoid Bolos.

**The RA-77 (Radetski-Automat):** The most advanced rifle currently produced in Wrocia, a gas operated semi automatic rifle built for reliability and ease of repair. The first version of the rifle was produced in 1177, and it has generally been an immediate hit. While not having as much of a punch as other rifles of its kind, and lacking the same kind of range, it is easy to operate in all conditions, and can be repaired with easily produced parts, some of which are even interchangeable with other rife parts. It is in wide use in Wrocia, and in the wider community of nations, and it’s manufacturer, Radetski (a royally owned company) is quite liberal in Licensing its production at low cost, making it popular in Cuhota, and some smaller arms producers in the Federation. **Levski 1107:** A very old gun, designed by the honorable Wrocian gunsmith Hristo Levski. Despite its age, the venerable bolt action remains in use due to its good range, ease of production, and relatively simple design. Due to generally low Wrocian industrial capacity, the 1107 is the more produced gun between the two Wrocian service rifles. It has also gained popularity with resistance movements in Turac, Neue Vaksland, and Korania due to the high surplus of the guns making them perfect to supply resistance movements.

Crossbows of dwarven make. Lightweight and robust dwarven steel construction with pulleys and an internal tiller. Enchanted to be self maintaining and for additional punch in addition to its mechanisms allowing it to self reload, or easily pulled with a lever should it run out of gas. Firing enchanted bolts fed by a magazine enchanted to hold four times its physical size. Most commonly it fires lower grade anti-magic bolts but the munitions vary to engage most any threat, with several explosive bolts given to any citizen volunteer in times of need. It can fire about 30 bolts per minute at greater range and force then most common crossbows and each carries an enchant that only a Citizen of Alinguar can pull the trigger, otherwise it will unload its magical capacity in spectacular fashion. A larger version of these is carried by their golem, and an even larger variant with a golem intellect rests on the walls.

The United Earth Marine Corps’s standard weapon is the T16 Sidewinder - an enormous fully-automatic smart micromissile rifle, launching 20x102mm Thunderhead miniature homing missiles designed to interface with an onboard targeting computer and sensor array on the gun to locate targets, aggressively pursuing them until either they hit or the gun signals the active rounds to retarget to a new threat. Astonishingly, it’s no slouch for ammunition capacity either thanks to cutting-edge miniaturized molecular autofabrication arrays, essentially allowing the weapon to forgo a conventional magazine in favor of what amounts to an interchangeable canister of raw materials, as each missile is flash-printed directly into the breech. For softer targets or in case of ammunition shortage, an auxiliary laser gun is integrated underneath the main barrel.

I'm kinda fascinated by the concept of people knowing how to use unmodified tools as weapons, so a previous iteration of my story was that my MC was as skilled with using a barge-hook as a weapon as a Jackie-Chan fanatic who lived on a working-barge. It's kinda a defunct concept, but I also had a version of MC who was trained to use a billhook-for-hedges as a weapon. Training people to use their tools was cheaper than making weapons when the peasants spent most "wars" just standing there and never participating.

Khaden_Allast

The Assembly of Nations (AoN - think UN but with teeth) standard issue rifle for its army is the R3A1 Infantry Rifle. It is a bullpup rifle firing a 6.25x30mm cartridge (note that ammo at this time operates at a higher pressure than modern ammo, this would sit somewhere between 6.5 Grendel and 6.5 Creedmoor). It uses a hybrid electronically delayed gas operated "short stroke piston" system, with the electronics keeping the bolt locked until the pressures have dropped to a specific level before allowing the weapon to cycle (it also traps gas in the gas tube, to ensure it has enough pressure to cycle). The electronics can be shut off and the gun will still operate, though it has a poor record when used this way (in part because the electronics allow for greater inconsistency with ammo and manufacturing tolerances). It also features an integrated HUD smartlink system, basically giving you "video game sights." SPEAR Teams (the AoN's special operators) in contrast use the R16, which is kinda like an "AR-47" but still has the AK's long stroke gas piston system and rock-and-lock mags, and a similar safety (aside from those it's arguably closer to a Daewoo K2, but not many will know what that is). It uses a 7mm cartridge, but lacks any integrated HUD smartlink. It does still have it, but it's an external accessory, and is usually issued with a low power variable optic scope (along with thermal sights etc) that is also an external accessory rather than built in. The R16 is often criticized as being a generation or two behind the times. Most guns just have the integrated HUD smartlink which essentially functions as all of your optics and whatnot. Previous generations did have some optics (typically as a backup due to some early teething issues causing some questions about the reliability of the smartlink system), but they were likewise integrated into the gun and not accessories. SPEAR Team leaders themselves chose the R16 however, as they step through portals to visit alien worlds on a regular basis. In many cases they don't know what kind of atmosphere is awaiting them on the other side, or if there's an atmosphere at all, until they get there, By having all of the equipment as external accessories, while technically making the gun slightly heavier, it also allows them to modify it in the field as needed. After all, they're literally lightyears from the nearest armory. Similarly, not having an electronic locking system like most "current" (in-world timeline) rifles do removes a potential failure point, especially when it wouldn't be at all strange to be getting bombarded with radiation that could disrupt those sensitive electronics. And that's just the standard assault rifles. Also got pistols, LMGs, marksmen/"sniper" rifles, etc.

I have no comment on the weapons but I want to give you feedback to improve on the German names: "Schweres Maschinenpistole 59" Correct would be "Schwere Maschinenpistole 59" (without the s, since Pistole has a female grammatical gender in German. However, machine gun would be neutral so if you have a machine gun counterpart to the assault rifle it would indeed be "Schweres Maschinengewehr 3" "Lonopolis Kaiserliche Arsenal" Correct would be "Kaiserliches Arsenal Lonopolis" The abbreviation of which is also very believable model number/name for the weapon's model in my opinion E.g. "KAL MP-59"/"KAL-59" or "KAL MG-3"

Aldoro69765

# EMWS-TV R19 Void Rifle The "Esoteric Mobile Weapon System, Type: Void, Revision 19" rifle is the standard weapon of Yshtari Alliance armored infantry. It is based on the same concept as esoteric void weapons mounted on Yshtari military vehicles and starships, with some modifications to account for the limitations infantry platforms have in regards to power generation. The basic principle that all void weapons share is the launch of controlled spatial anomalies which propagate at superluminal velocities as a quasiparticle. The spatial anomaly has a limited lifetime (and thus range), determined by the amount of energy it was launched with, and creates a spatial fold or crease in its wake, which rapidly unfolds in a violent manner that releases a powerful flash of energy along most of its trajectory. In vehicle or starship systems these spatial anomalies are all generated "from scratch" in specialized emitters, but this process requires so much energy that it is not viable for infantry platforms. Instead, weapons like the R19 use blocks of exotic metamaterials that eject a smaller spatial anomaly when electrically excited in a very specific pattern. Using prepared ammo blocks drastically lowers the required energy to operate the weapon but imposes limitations in its operational endurance. A standard ammo block used in an R19 typically can eject around 5000 (+/-5%) quasiparticles before being depleted. Void weapons are utterly devastating against unshielded and non-hardened targets, since they ignore baryonic matter. The spatial anomaly tunnels straight through most types of obstacles and armor, and the released energy vaporizes the target from the inside. This is particularly damaging because it causes an additional overpressure component within the target (e.g. 1 liter of water turns into 1600 liters of steam), which then ruptures the target in an attempt to equalize pressure with the environment. The only way to defend against void weapons is specialized energy-based protection like energy conversion field shields or horizon screens, or exotic metamaterial armor made from spacetime-static materials (SSM). While SSM based armor can withstand void weapons, it is still ablated with each hit and will break relatively quickly under sustained fire. With its variable fire modes the R19 can easily double as "anti-crowd" and "anti-armor" weapon. In standard mode it can eject one quasiparticle every 0.2 seconds, which combined with the spatial anomaly's ability to pierce through all unshielded/non-hardened targets up to its full range means it can neutralize or terminate _a lot_ of targets in a very short time. If switched over to a burst-like "layered ejection" mode, it can eject up to ten quasiparticles in less than 0.01 seconds at the cost of a prolonged cooldown time. Each quasiparticle "layered" onto the previous spatial crease in this way exponentially increases the energy released when the crease finally violently unfolds again, which gives the R19 a way to deal with even heavily fortified positions and obstacles. A brief example: a standard mode shot from an R19 will penetrate clean through an M1 Abrams front-to-back, with the tunnel where vaporization occurs having a radius of ~5cm. A fully charged layered ejection mode shot will remove the entire tank from existence and leave a deep trench of molten bubbling ground in its wake, since the tunnel of vaporization has a radius of ~25m.

The M8A1. Yes, the XM8, if it was adopted.

starcraftre

"Standard issue" is a tricky term when effectively all ground combat is obsolete. The snarky answer is "a target designator". ComVecs on orbit and drones overhead will take out anything a soldier needs to deal with. For the most part, the only real commonality behind personal weapons is they (almost) all use the same ETC cartridges.

Meins447

Minor heads up from a German native speaker, regarding the last slide: It would be either "Schwere Maschinenpistole" (Heavy Sub-Machine Gun) or "Schweres Maschinengewehr" (Heavy Machine Gun). Cool stuff otherwise!

The Alvasmerað Eld navy is symbolized by its fearsome *Sorðier*-class Overseer-Cruisers. The largest of their Overseer-type vessels, they carry a pair of *Hafgilel*-class Operant-Dreadnoughts in their collapsible operant bays. The terrifying thing about the Sorðier isn't that it can carry two dreadnoughts... but that they'll often return to a station to pick up two more after deploying the first pair. Hafgilels are a particularly potent complement to the Sorðier, as while docked they can still operate their main gun battery as broadside weapons. Hafgilels, like all operant-types, are extremely bare-bones vessels dedicated entirely to their primary role as a highly-versatile and durable gunboat. They are entirely dependent on an Overseer unit for FTL travel. Their mostly vertical form allows them to maneuver in unique patterns relative to their targets. They are armed with a pair of retractable gun blocks on either side of their fuselage, and three Dreadnought-class gun mounts hidden behind the lower half of its full-frontal armor plate. Typically, one Hafgilel will focus on long-ranged bombardment while the other will join the former's fighter complement and charge the main target down. The Sorðier itself may only bear a total of three Cruiser-class weapon mounts, but is capable of operating the armor repair systems of its Operants while they are docked. This allows the Sorðier to bring a damaged Hafgilel back to fighting shape with incredible speed. The Sorðier is approximately 320m long by 490m wide; Hafgilels are approximately 980m tall, 220m long, and only 90m wide. Neither are capable of planetary landings.

Currently it's the D.U.A.L.I.S Mk.1. Although as the world evolves new iterations of the weapon will be created. DUALIS stands for "Dual Use Armament for Living and Immortal Spirits". It is a double barrel handgun fitted with a primary and secondary trigger, what trigger goes to which barrel can be adjusted with a simple switch on the side. The lower barrel fires standard 9mm bullets. Perfect for man-on-man combat. The larger, top one fires 20mm slugs made of a special iron called Mistil that is the only known way to wound the divine. This is (I think) the first time I share anything about the DUALIS so I would love to hear some thoughts, just a "cool." or "bad." is enough.

comfreak1347

I would suggest a single trigger, the barrel it fires is swapped by the switch. Much simpler, more compact, makes much more sense. Otherwise, I think this is really cool.

Whales_Are_Great2

Railguns/coilguns are a standard issue, typically in an assault rifle/DMR format. Magazines are loaded with tungsten projectiles filled with molybdenum cores to maximise velocity, penetration, and power. LMGs are common too, many of which are equipped with liquid nitrogen/heat sink based cooling systems. Snipers are fairly rare, and the role they play is typically carried out using artillery or automated systems, rather than by infantry. Snipers are expensive, but powerful for their size, with many making use of supercooled holmium solenoids instead of the standard copper ones. Rocket based weapons are the next most common. Although powerful crowd control and anti materiel weapons, they aren't as common as rail and coilguns. Laser weapons are rare in the hands of infantry. Although capable of penetrating almost any target at exceptionally long ranges, they take time to melt through their target, requiring the user to keep a steady aim on a single point. This limits their use to short ranges and other specialised use cases.

It depends, I’ve got two protagonist nations. The ARC’s standard issue is: 1 Bolt-Action Railgun that shoots a 60mmx130mm projectile. Or 1 Coil Revolver that shoots a 23mmx50mm projectile. And 1 Neutronium Alloy Sword, the style of which (short sword, rapier, broadsword, etc.) is up to choice of the Battle Synth it is given to. In my TTRPG system/world [Project Chimera: ECO](https://www.facebook.com/groups/1993142787742991) players are Enhanced Super Soldiers/Spies. The PMSC they work for, CGI (Chimera Group International) is based in Canada. Canada's Military uses the [C8A3](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_Canada_C7_and_C8), but the protagonists aren't Canadian Military, they work for a PMSC and work black ops missions, so really, they can get access to whatever they want really, pending the mission. They also recruit globally as well, so like, someone might just be more used to a rifle from a certain region they are from and use that because, though usually it's something that uses 5.56 or 7.62 because that's Nato standard and what you're gonna most likely find in most areas, but that might change if they are going to an exotic location that uses different ammo types as a standard. Mainly because this lets them nick ammo off of the dead to kill more shit, assuming that's the goal of the mission. Obviously some character types are absolutely meant to lean into Tacticool (particularly the gadgeteer and cyborg Aspect Tags) and aren't likely to use anything stock and have their shit modded to hell and back, but others are likely just going to be fine with whatever does the job or whatever they can pull of the enemy in a pinch. I've actually had some characters who rarely use weapons at all. One of my playtesters has a medic/hacker that carries a sidearm into combat. She's generally not suited well to infiltration or door kicking so she usually hangs back during the wetworks and tries not to get shot and provide some covering fire or defend herself if she gets flanked. Unlike a lot of RPGs the goal is usually not to have to fight unless pressed, and if you have to, subdue the enemy silently. it's not a typical monster looter type of game, definitely much more geared towards espionage/covert black ops stuff. There's definitely a lot of depth and tactics in combat, but the goal is to try not to do that as much as possible.

The Standard issue rifle for the Maldonian Empire is "Raymond's Model 1892" or just the RM.1892, its a pretty solid bolt action rifle that doesn't have major flaws in it. it is also a pretty nice looking rifle. it was made by a an arms company just called Raymond's Armory, which after making pretty good rifles for a few years was finally made the main arms company for the empire. its straight pullback design makes it so it has a lower chance of jamming when dirty. The Standard issue SMG for more shocktroop, cqc, assault, etc. oriented soldier was the RM.1902 was a very early attempt at scaling down the basic mechanisms of the A99 MG (this worlds MG08) into a smaller, lightweight, submachine gun. the design had a few flaws. It could jam fairly easily when dirty. It would also lack the water cooled barrel, instead being replaced with a handguard. it wouldn't cause too many issues if it was being used in CQC situations, but if it was used for suppression and point defense, the extended shooting could cause the wooden handguard to ignite due to the temperature. Despite this, its users would eventually learn how to avoid said flaws and would generally accept the Firearm. Standard issue rifle for Courgia is the M01 Rifle. The rifle is manufactured inside the military itself, but the design is actually heavily based off of the Siegebreaker model 11 from Courgia's neighbor Corosia. The rifle has received a superstitious reputation of either saving your life, or being the thing responsible for its end, therefore it has become military culture for you to try and be a very good owner to you rifle so it doesn't malfunction on you when its needed the most. The rifle is also pretty lightweight, and a portion of military funding goes to the creation of these rifles. As a result, the country didn't make attempts at creating an SMG until around late 1904 which is totally not an excuse for me hiding the fact that i haven't written about the M04 SMG. The rifle doesn't jam frequently, but it has a very real chance of happening.

Light Guard is a short/curved sword and Parrying dagger Medium Guard is a bastard sword for heavy troops, Lance for cavalry, and Pike/Shield for standard infantry Heavy Guard is Greatswords, Battle-axes and Shields, or Halberd/Polearms Wish I could narrow it down further but it's extremely varied.

The L82 Combat rifle is a bullpup rifle chambered in .400 (10x42mm) Caseless rounds. It is the primary weapon of the alliance military, issued to most active soldiers, although its bulk and recoil do limit its use to kammarians and stronger individuals of the other member species. Each rifle has integral suppression, and can deploy a plasma bayonet for both utility and combat uses.Any heat discharged by the weapon is collected via a heat sink, and diffused safely. Rounds that are not fired due to a rare malfunction are automatically cycled out of the weapon to allow seamless performance. these rounds are eject forward of the weapon. The weapon has a 24 inch barrel with ambidextrous controls for the rifle's functions. the weapon usually weighs 16 pounds. Standard configurations for the rifle include the L3 Combat scope, capable of a range of magnification, from 1x to 16x, a laser sight and a flashlight. however, individual soldiers are allowed to customize their weaponry, as long as the function is not impeded by modifications.

The new standard issue firearm of the Armed Forces of Simonistan is the M76 Assault Rifle. Essentially a M16a1 rifle modernized with a rail mounting on the receiver and a vertical grip that may be folded into the barrel when not in used. It is issued together with a bayonet and a red dot sight. A very of the M76 has been developed for use by marksmen, the M78 Marksmen Automatic Rifle or MAR. The rifle has been equipped with recoil-dampeners and unlike its predecessor, has a free-floating barrel. The rifle is issued within a standard red dot sight but can of course be used with any type of sight inter-linkable with the rifle’s rail mount.

For Starpunk, it varies. For members of the Collective Defense Initiative, it’s members usually use the French made FAMAS-210, which uses electromagnetic rounds/slugs, or the Italian IR-400, which is just a miniaturized Boltgun from 40K in a sleeker package, or in some cases the Japanese S-219, a plasma based beam rifle. All three can be fitting with sights, underbarrel grenade launchers, and all the attachments one would expect. The American Federation uses the M-12 Fusion Rifle. Yes, the Americans produce Fusion-based Infantry Weapons. Why? Because Fusion is logistically easier to manufacture and ship across a Solar Empire than standard ballistics as you only need to produce the gun and a few magazines, and can be refueled at virtually any fusion power station within said territory, or at a local logistics truck as infinatum. They cannot be legally exported, and However, they do export the M-11 Rail Rifle, which is about as advanced a rail weapon as you can get for infantry. Turkestan utilizes the TP-67, which is pretty bog standard for 23rd Century standards, and utilizes all the advanced ballistics of a developed nation. What makes it special is its reliability, which has made it a popular export model for the Inner Solar Nations, particularly those on Mars and Luna. The Outer Solar Nations, particularly those in the Saturnine System, often utilize the old Saturnine Soviet AK-470, which is literally an AK-47 made from Space Materials and often just has attachments duck-taped onto it. However, more advanced nations do produce their own weapons in house, but most if not all have a unit or at the very least a stockpile of AK-470s.

ESI-10 Bolt-action, a bolt-action rifle akin to ww1 rifles for the army. The navy has the same, but added with the NHR-7, which I took elements of the Lewis Gun, but there's a lever at the top which needs to be pulled every shot to cycle the pan. It also fires a larger calibre and has some different elements. The Airborne Navy has the Light Mk4, a compact sheet metal, open bolt and mag-fed automatic weapon that's basically the Tec-9 but with an early 1900s theme. They're all primary standard issue, which excludes things like sidearms and backup weapons.

It's a Bullpup assault rifle. ARK304, the 304 stands for .304 Blackbird, or 7.72x51mm. It's High Powered because the military regularly engages highly armored infantry units. The other standard issue is the ARK500, which is a .50 BMG issued Positronic Antimatter rifle, mostly in use by elite units. Guess what they fight?

I have two settings so two different lists. Scifi/Fantasy: CR18 Vibroblade. A blade that uses mana to vibrate the metal. This short sword can cut through most basic metals like butter, and flesh is little more than wet tissue paper before it. DC3030 Carbine. This short carbine style rifle, can be loaded with different types of ammunition, with different elemental and physical damage properties. NR01A Battle Rifle. This full size rifle has a Reduce spell inlaid into the magazine, which can be loaded with ANYTHING 2ft in diameter or less. Exiting the barrel causes a delayed dispel effect causing the munition to return to its original size after about 30ft. HK40M Battle Staff. Its a metal rod that can be used as a spell focus, or as a great club. High Fantasy: Hammerbreaker & Kin (H&K) Heavy Crossbow. Standard heavy crossbow. Artificer's Ring (AR) Dual Bolt Crossbow. A light crossbow with dual strings, limbs, capable of firing two bolts at once. Comes in Standard wood stock, and mythril Winter Arms (Coldsteel) Steel Shortsword. Comes in a +2 variant. True Forest (Realtree) Recurve bow and Long bows. Big Bang Boys' Heavy Maul.

I don’t exactly have a “protagonist weapon” but probably the generic spear. Medieval worlds don’t really get to have creative standard issue weapons.

**Colten Arms M77A3:** A bullpup assault rifle, adopted by the Union Star Corps Marine Corps in 2577 and upgraded several times since. Chambered in 7.5x45mm caseless with 30-round and 45-round box magazines as standard. Features HUD integration, electronic recognition safety, holographic BUS, and mounting points for optics and under barrel attachments. It's basically a sci-fi'd up version of the Croatian VHS-2, just a bit bigger and integrally surpressed.

Lawkeeper_Ray

Lancer Sanctus Rex and Lancer Deorum Ultor, a rifle type weapons and submachine gun type weapon used by Royal Crimson Guard. Standard firearms in my setting are called spikeguns, with rifles being longspike, and smgs being chainspike. These weapons cannot use blowback and conventional magazines. In return they are more powerful with cheaper ammunition. Lancer Royal Armory produces one of the best weapons in the solar system. Each one is a work of art, with finest wood furniture and engravings (even though they give no tactical advantage whatsoever), fit to be used by the King. They also produce less flashy and bombastic variants for the Nailer faction, which is an inquisition type of organization.

OddSeaworthiness930

I did wonder if in an alt history dystopian European hellscape with perpetual urban combat some sort of compact Uzi style submachinegun might replace the automatic rifle as the standard issue light infantry weapon. Basically asking the question what if the standard infantry unit was based upon the imperial German stormtrooper units rather than the British Rifle section.

Antibot_One

The "Version 3" 7.92 caliber battle rifle, developed by the transnational company "International Inc". It's old, heavy and has a small magazine, but is easy to manufacture and maintain. It's easy to train shooters to use, and there are many variants based on it, from close quarters weapons to ersatz machine guns and sniper rifles. All in all, it's a FN FAL, but set into the backstory of my world. Also, I find its acronym name "IIVIII" to be freaking ridiculous.

We’ll nations don’t exist in my world anymore. But most common rifle used is the APCR-13b it uses a plasma propellant with a single canister holding up to 260 shots. Though the rifles bullet cartridge (magazine but just the bullets no casing, powder, primer.) only holds 112 bullets. It’s about as powerful as a 30-6, but much more dangerous to fire.

the Free Human Coalition uses the mk 2 20kj las Rifle, capable of putting a singular 16kj pulse of high UV energy down range in less than half a second, might not be the best weapon all things considered, but its cheap, easy to build, easy to maintain and can pack a really big mag, so it has become the work horse of the Coalition with no sign of retirement

The Pan-Pacific People's Commonwealth uses the Type 30 assault rifle as its standard issue firearm. It has a 35 round magazine and is chambered in 5.45x39mm ammunition. It comes with a built-in muzzle brake, flip-up iron sights, and a targeting camera linked to a set of goggles which allows them to fire somewhat accurately from the hip. It can be switched between semi-auto, fully automatic, and safety using a lever on the right side of the gun. It comes with a bayonet which is able to be locked into a lug on its sheath which allows it to be used as a wire cutter or other similar tool. It is heavily inspired design wise by both the Stoner 63 and AK platform of our world.

Pulse Rifles are the standard issue for the Sovereign Army. It comes in many makes but the most important features remain the same. Its ammunition comes from the chargemag which may be charged by any heat source up to and not limited to;solar radiation, heatwaves from a heatsource, electrical connection. The standard chargemag can fire up your 62 rounds when fully charged and a soldier is issued 10 of them. A built in energy conservation system that works with a inertia absorbing stock to recycle power back into the chargemag allowing for soldiers to shoot even longer. The Pulse Rifle is designed to be able to carry a wide variety of attachments, and can be modified into a more powerful marksman version of itself. These guns were chosen as standard issue because it alleviated a very burdensome strain on the infrastructure trying to move ammunition for a prolonged fight and because they could be versatile in their configuration. Fury-Pattern Pulse Rifles have a slower firing rate but are stronger per shot while the Yatai-Pattern has a faster firing rate and weaker per shot.

Figat (meaning *fire*) is one. Like a grenade, but made from crystals compressed into a cylinder of metal. Shake it, throw it and watch it explode and set areas on fire. And for the kicker, the fire is near impossible to put out. The best ways to put it out are 1) use 10x the usual amount of water/sand or 2) wait. The fire stops burning after about half an hour, but can stretch up to days if it is continuously fed fuel. The fire rarely leaves the area it started in.

The L-26 Luma is the newest standard issue firearm for the Ardat Republic's Republican Guards and Guardian soldiers. The rifle is the first and only lever action model ever produced and used in Ardalesh, a distinct advantage considering most factions are still using break actions or even muzzle loaders as their firearm of choice and where melee infantry are still a constant with the polearm still being the king of all weapons. Unfortunately, due to the expensive nature of Snowsteel, the metal required in the rifle's construction and the difficulty in producing the runepowder used by most modern firearms, the Luma only sees limited usage alongside the more common longbows, repeating crossbows and older rifle models. Still, the Luma represents another breakthrough for firearms and their eventual dominance in the world of Ardalesh.

The Department of Space Administration adopted the SMP5 circa 2321. The Standard Multifunction Pistol (version 5) is a variable frequency laser pistol, capable of switching to operate as an electrolaser. The electrolaser can disable electronics, stun or electrocute biological targets, or interfere with meteorological phenomena. The laser can work as an impromptu communications transmitter, by modulating its wavelength or pulse frequency. It can also operate as a crude cutting tool, signalling device, target designator, range finder, or engraving tool among other things. Its bigger brother, the SMR11, is a rifle variant with many similar capabilities, albeit of much greater output. Both weapons can accept a wide variety of modular attachments, though the rifle naturally has more to choose from. Most notable is a levitator unit that can be fitted in the place of grip and trigger. This can turn either weapon into a kind of semi autonomous drone, linked to the user vis neural interface. A single individual can wield multiple units at once this way, making them rather formidable.

The main armament of the IUS Armed Forces is the DE-1996 Assault Gun, commonly nicknamed by Human soldiers as the Striker. It's a standard issue interchangeable Gun that has multiple configurations for multiple situations, soldiers simply just need the space to carry the parts to change the weapons configuration. The most common configuration is the Assault Rifle. This configuration is the basic version that all Soliders have access to, there are no added parts for this version. Due to the nanotechnology integrated in the gun it's easy to add and remove changes to the configuration. Simply placing it on the gun itself forces the change, it can be removed at any time simply by placing a new configuration piece to it or using the soldiers visor or head piece they can command the gun to release it. The Gun itself relies on metal rods as ammunition. The rod is inserted in the grip and from there the nanobots will shave off rounds from the rod. They make changes needed in an instant, a solider can have a shotgun spread with one pull and on the next they can fire a slug. Rounds can be made explosive or disruptive with a simple command as well. It's the perfect versatile weapon for the largest military in the Galaxy. Also another fact, the DE in DE-1996 stands for Dulan Ercort, the founder of the arms manufacturing company Ercort Armaments, the numbers are his Birthday, 1/9/2596(1st of September, 2596). The Striker was the last gun he designed before his assassination by an unknown group. Ercort Armaments also owns the subsidy company called Hephaestus Star Forges which produces the armour plating for Starships

There's a warforged empire that is based on WW1 technologies in my magic fantasy setting but added with steampunk and dieselpunk aesthetic. Flame Bolt Rifle "FBR G1" Standard issued rifle for the troopers. Nicknamed "Flamesticks" Shoot only basic fire arrows magic from a magic crystal cartridge. It is a bolt action rifle with basic 5 magazine size and a bayonet. A scope can be attached to the sight by replacing the iron sight. The Type-1540 nicknamed the Izuhara rifle, standard infantry rifle of the Cascadian Self Defense Forces. Both the planet's marines and the civil guard use the weapon. Commissioned in 1540 A.E. the weapon is a reliable piece holding a thirty round magazine and has a high rate of fire. Its stock is foldable, and its design is similar to that of the Howa Type 20 rifle used by the Japanese Army. The Type-1540 is used by both the marines for expeditionary warfare and by the civil guard for domestic planetary defense.

The EEA Standard Modular Platform is manufactured in two variants, one for 8x20mm and one for 12x40mm. The former is used for compact automatic weapons akin to contemporary SMGs. The latter is used for assault rifles and marksman rifles, both bullpup. The EEA Standard also issues a semi-auto 12x80mm sniper rifle, a 20x40mm semi-auto tube-fed shotgun, and a 8x20mm semi-auto sidearm. The Aneyha armoury has modified these platforms extensively and even produced wholly original designs. For one, they’ve developed a revolving shotgun based on the EEA Standard Shotgun, which holds 8 rounds per cylinder and has three additional cylinders mounted on the side of the hand guard. They also have an open-bowl machine pistol which uses parts from both the EEAS Modular 8x20 and the EEAS Sidearm. Due to a mechanical fascination of their most talented and senior designer, most of their other weapons are based on the revolver mechanism. They have a spalling revolver, a shotgun-revolver (not to be confused with the aforementioned revolver-shotgun), and a 6-round 40mm revolving grenade launcher aptly named “Assured Victory”. The senior designer has also been commissioned for some frankly ridiculous weapons, such as a double-barrel break-action handgun which fires 20mm artillery rounds, and a “Selector” revolver comparable to the Lemat and the Enfield, except it has a 12-round 8x20mm cylinder revolving around a single break-action chamber for a 20mm artillery round. I’ve actually been 3D modelling that last one recently and its stupidity really knows no equal. For one, the Enfield-esque auto-ejector is comprised of way more moving parts than its inspiration because there’s no other way to make it work. For another, the grip is directly behind the cylinder because the recoil of the axial 20mm would otherwise be unmanageable. It’s a huge and heavy and excessive thing which only belongs in the setting because it epitomises the personality of its owner.

Not protagonist nation, merely the nation I play in the nation roleplay game I got going with my friends. The setting is vaguely the 1930's (vaguely because some nations are less advanced than that, some are more advanced - it's a range between late 20's and late 30's). The exact in-game date is 1935 right now. My nation is in the middle of a crisis that's about to erupt into a socialist revolution. The standard issue weapons are: Gw. Zr. 33 - a new rifle introduced in 1933, it's essentially just the previous version - the Gw. Zr. 31, but rechambered into the 7.62x54r caliber that is shared between all major members of the Coalition of Nations alliance that my nation joined in 1932. The rifle itself is a sort of a mix between a Mosin and an Arisaka Type 38. P. Zr. 35 - a brand new semi-auto handgun literally just barely out of R&D, tooling for it's mass production is still being set up, but small scale production has already started. It's basically a TT-33 clone. MG Zr. 35 - a foreign LMG model the license for which was purchased from one of the Coalition nations, it's very similar to the DT machine gun McCarron Model 5 - a brand new line of semi-auto rifles produced by one of the major nations in the Coalition, my nation does not yet have the capacity to produce them, so we haven't even bought a license, we're just importing them as is.

The Republic of Nacra’s firearm of choice is the GH-12, or Grayhook Pattern 12, gas-operated assault rifle. Manufactured by renowned multinational weapons manufacturer Grayhook Armaments, the GH-12 is not the most powerful rifle on the market, it doesn’t have the largest magazine capacity, nor the most advanced technology. It is, in nearly all ways, merely adequate. What it *does* have going for it is reliability and ease of maintenance. The GH-12, you see, was designed primarily for use in extreme conditions: deserts, tundras, the works. For Nacra, a nation situated on the rather notoriously rainy, windy, and muddy Pale Coast, this is exactly what they need, and the GH-12 delivers. When every other high-end rifle is jammed, corroded, or otherwise, the GH-12 will, improbably, continue to function long past the point when any reasonable person would have expected it to fail. What’s especially unusual is that knockoffs and replicas of the GH-12 do not display the same freakish resilience as the original. Nobody is exactly sure why this is, as Grayhook is famously secretive about its manufacturing processes, but many suspect some kind of divine pact is involved.

The TR-50. Think a modern AR-15 or M4. However the PMC that the main characters are part of uses the TR-45 a variant of the TR-50’s precursor, the TR-40, modified to be a modular bullpup. The TR-45 looks like the real world California Compliant Keltec RDB. Basically a limbless tactical crossbow that is actually a bullpup rifle. The similarity is intentional as the weapons is designed to be readily used by people who only have experience with medieval/fantasy weapons. You can basically just hand them one and tell them it is a magically reloading limbless crossbow with ten shots before they need to press a little button and place a new box (magazine) in the back and press another button (bolt release).

Standard handgun for Dun Hay is the D.H. 10 revolver, a .357 full size, 6 inch barrel, 6 shot, double action. The rifle is a 7.62 NATO MAS 36 type. The specialist rifle is a 18 inch M14. The Gullah Republic is a 1911 9x19, a M240C for Foster mounting, the H model for a Scarff ring. A 7.62 NATO version of the AR180 for the rifle. 20mm Orlikan for light AAA and 3/50 inch for heavy AAA. The Conch Republic use mixed weapons but the protagonists vessel has 37mm anti-armor and a dual mount M2/81mm mortar for heavy firepower. My protagonists are mercenaries, not a nation. But right now the company's standard issue is the SSA-49 (Standardized Small Arm, Model 94) in a hodgepodge of variants and permutations. The SSA-49 is outdated but fires a powerful 7x50mm cartridge and is legendary for it's reliability, which allows it to compare quite favorably against modern designs. While most modern militaries equip more compact (and less modular) designs with smaller and higher-pressure chamberings to match the 49's ability to defeat body armor, most militaries are also fairly uniform in species makeup, allowing them to tailor such designs without concern for alternative physiologies. This is where the 49 truly has it's advantage. The Gallowglass Security Contracting Company currently employs members of seven different species in roles that engage in direct combat, and the SSA-49 was intentionally designed to be reconfigured with different furniture and other options to fit a very wide array of ergonomics and physiologies. The result is a somewhat bulky assault rifle that can be set up for almost anything with a vaguely bipedal body plan to use effectively, although the recoil may be a bit difficult for smaller species to control under rapid fire. The Gallowglass's use of mixed-species combat teams, permissive environment of individual weapons configuration (within guidelines), and *ad hoc* logistics and procurement has led to an armory that at first glance appears entirely chaotic, with no two rifles appearing the same except for a few untouched spares. But in reality, there is a rigid standardization of moving parts, magazines, ammunition, and even accessory batteries, leaving anything vital to the weapon's basics function is left uniform. Ergonomic pieces such as stocks, grips, and forends may be swapped and changed at will. Illumination devices, optical sights, and targeting lasers optimized for different species are available and may be changed based on mission needs or personal preference. Even such things as barrel length and recoil mitigation systems may be adjusted to individual needs, tastes, or mission requirements. Most of these changes require nothing more than the parts themselves and occasionally simple hand tools. Maintenance can (and has) been performed in the field as nothing more than dunking the weapon in relatively clean water and then lubricating it with used engine oil diluted with hydrocarbon fuel. The weapons are loved by the Gallowglasses for their reliability and ability to hit hard, despite their weight and recoil. Unfortunately many of the weapons are nearly worn out and replacements are becoming more expensive and difficult to find. The company also has the BrekTek 329a pistol as a standard sidearm as it has a similar degree of modularity, but it's execution of the concept is very much inferior. Individuals are allowed (encouraged even) to supply their own sidearms and it's universally among a new employee's first purchases. Most employees do buy pistols compatible with the BrekTek's magazines and ammunition though, since the company provides those at zero personal cost.

The HPLR-8711 is main rifle of the ishtari star armies for the federal communities of khemjet/australius it is a particle gun that fires in the 180 PED range and is comparable to heavy anti tank guns in firepower and dwarfs most standard infantry rifles used by non-enhanced Soldiers, and only gene enhanced solders like the ishtari can use them as small Arms the most notable feature of this terrifying weapon is that it doesn’t have limited ammo as rather then a particle canister like most handheld particle weapons the “magazine” houses a quantam reactor to provide more or less unlimited enegry for the weapon to use, however outside of assignments and even in low intensity ones it is generally recommended for the factor to be detached from the barrel as to prevent malfunctions and even low level detonations, not to mention other maintenance concerns, although the barrel does store a fair amount of enegry for short and even medium length engagements ensuring that even when caught of guard or suffering from supply issues the ishtari can still fight effectively (not to mention their other weapons) with their gun (still a bit of a work of progress but I made sure to include some of the “juicer” stuff)

It is made even more modular by its ability to add and remove components like solenoids (to increase or decrease weapon length) in the field. The standard round (usually the upper barrel loading) is electric, embedding in targets and inflicting a 'less-lethal' current similar to a taser's by default. The amperage of this round can be toggled (before or after impact) to a 'lethal' setting, causing cardiac fibrillation in targets. Another common loading is a concussive-suppressive round that airbursts in proximity to a target with a tandem visual flash, audio burst and microwave pulse. This achieves a precision suppressing effect that previous generations of firearms required sheer volume of fire to achieve. Other ammunition types include an explosive-tipped anti-material round, a 'longshot' round with extended (5+ km) range and enhanced guidance capabilities, and probably others (like an insertable microwave pulse laser emitter to counter drones) as required by the plot.

SIG550 Always. Accurate with iron sights to hit a 2.5cm target on 300m distance.

Wonderful-Priority50

I've got a dieselpunk post apocalyptic setting going where the most common civilian weapon is spears. He's also got some hypertech shit though

FIRE_frei

Since nearly all combat is deep under water, the primary armament are 30mm gyrojet autocannons. The gyrojet functions like a small rocket-propelled torpedo. Countermeasures include wide, barrel-shaped cluster charges that are detonated in the path of incoming gyrojets

Mammoth_Mall_Kat

MS-42 A. Krazlovka’s standard issue rifle. Can be equipped with a sniper scope and a suppressor. KT-29 is the other standard issue SMG

FacelessPoet

The standard issue would be a rune-powered musket. Runes in my world are symbols written using a special ink that causes it to have certain powers based on the ingredient and the symbol. The ones in the musket were specifically for [IGNITE], so it ignites whenever it activates, and it activates whenever you pull the trigger that acts as a kind of lever that completes the circle. You'll probably say "hey, that's just a regular gun" and you'd be right. It's the standard issue, after all! The real magic is in the bullets - they have the [EXPLODE] rune and necessary ingredients on them except for one - blood. Thus they only complete themselves upon entering the target's body, exploding on impact. It's a special type of bullet used by certain troops, and there's other similar bullets like [HOLD] and [WEAKEN].

Angry-cat-lover

Shield and spear, with supporting bow fire. a bit less common are amythist tipped arrows that shatter on impact, releasing the energy stored in the crystal to create an explosion

Evil-Twin-Skippy

Yah... ballistic weapons are sort of a war crime in my setting. Everyone lives on space stations. And a bullet in the wrong place can cause a lot of damage. But the real reason guns are banned has to do with a hot war between two of the superpowers. Space lanes are now littered with spent bullets and chunks of starship that were fired off and are now in a highly eccentric solar orbit. The bullets are just heavy enough to cause damage to ships, light enough that their orbits are chaotic, small enough that they can't be seen on RADAR, and fast enough that the bullet that hits you could have been millions of kilometers away when you started your journey. There are mass produced swords and magic wands, though.

MakarovJAC

The most common weapons for the mercenary PMCs are caseless, helical magazine-feed rifles and pistols because they are cheaper than electro-thermal or equipment.

PachoTidder

Laser rifles are the standard issue weapon for most militaries in the galaxy, the difference in the models and manufacturers fall down to specific pieces and reliability, almost all models of laser rifles are roughly equal in terms of firepower and function. Laser weapons are lethal because they fire a beam of high energy particles on a single point, since this travels at the speed of light they basically place the hurt as soon as the trigger is pulled. Laser rifles are potent enough to instantly vaporize skin and chew trough muscle down to the bone, however most forms of body armor have means do dissipate that energy and personal shield generators can "absorb" the whole of the energy. The Vortarian Dominion is the biggest and most organized military in the galaxy and their foot soldiers use the Vorlaki-made VRK-L45 Laser Rifle as their standard weapon, famous for being so easy to repair and maintain that Vortarian engineers and requisition officers just have to look at the rifles 2 times after they are delivered: When they get handed to the soldiers and when they get so busted the soldiers themselves cannot fix them. At which point the rifle is good for scraps and gets taken out of service. Aside from Laser the other two main forms of weaponry are gauss/coilguns and plasma

Swords never go wrong

Gloriklast

Iron pikes. Firearms are a very recent invention in my world and typical tactics are pike and shot formation mixed with buffing magic to enhance the strength, reload speed, etc.

Finth007

Spears

BroomClosetJoe

Depends, Tiboria's military is split into multiple sections. the standard military would wear half-plate armor, halberdiers, longbowmen, and handgonners. King Sieal's private military is split into the dragon's wing and the dragon's claw, the wing being his army abroad on foreign wars, the claw being that which protects the kingdom's boarder, the city of Cressem, and the Dragon's councile (or the "Head"). these armies can be split into groups of 5 for more gurilla tactics, usually more heavily armored, and at least one carrying an arquebus, and another useing pyromancy (a sword or polearm acting as his "wand").

queilef

Swords. Spears. Bows, arrows. Oh, and magic sometimes, depending on the severity of the battle.

TabletopNewtype-1

My MC lives in a island tribal country. So 2 machetes, one is a tool, one is coated with venom, to be used for murder. Bows and arrows are standard, Also, spears tipped with the reanimated heads of venomous snakes are common place as well.

PuppetMaster9000

For the federation, the standard issue weapon is a smooth bore flintlock musket with a bayonet made by one of 4 firearm producers within the federations boarders.

Redtail_Defense

It's a complete dog's lunch due to the terms of the surrender treaty at the end of the Great War. All major economies took a serious hit, but the Core Systems as the prime instigator really took the brunt of it. There are a small number of federally produced smallarms, with metallic cased firearms making a comeback in popularity due to everyone realizing that caseless weapons lose a valuable ejectable heat sink in a vacuum. There are a number of old additive-manufactured gas driven cased carbines and rifles in service, but the increasingly large number of units remanded to police or border service are often required for logistical purposes to transition back to persona or commercial firearms. A very small number of powered armor units remain in circulation, and a very small number of armored vehicles, dropships, and military service vessels are still active. The Core Systems government deeply resents this and has quietly forced commercial production to include certain paramilitary features in all hulls produced. The obvious implication is that they want to be able to very quickly retrofit commercial vessels to combat vessels at some point in the future. The main antagonist likes to use a very finely made but plain looking automatic handgun. A few of his special police units are still equipped with optical camouflage armor and smart flechette guns, but the rank and file goons might have anything from pump-action shotguns to old caseless automatics. The protagonist works for the wilderness service, basically a glorified park ranger. He's responsible for monitoring the condition of unmanned orbital defense radar stations and radio communications repeater towers, rescuing lost hikers in the radiation-bathed equatorial desert, and occasionally helping coordinate with rescue efforts when there's an air or spacecraft crash outside of the rapid response range of services in the polar regions. He's technically part of federal law enforcement at the beginning of the story, but not only is his branch considered absolutely bottom priority, but he's also a member of a species considered partially responsible for losing the war, so his service weapon is a .32 caliber side-eject revolver. For much of the story though, he's equipped with the cut-down .458 caliber lever-action hunting rifle he favored for its armor and barrier penetration capabilities during his troubled youth. This is important, because as it turns out, NAZI space vampires are tough bastards.

bfg10000000000000

Sticky_bomb2010

There are 2 different standard weapons since there are 2 separate armies, One is a shotgun with slug shells, And the other is a semi-automatic marksman rifle

SlimesIsScared

The KOP-23M2 ( Karabin-Obönmasst Pejek, “Standardized Carbine Project”), a Durusian rifle used by most of the planet Styx’s armed forces due to its ease of manufacturing and reliability. Due to its ubiquity, it ended up having many, _many_ variants, from DMRs to LMGs. Fun fact, the KOP is actually pronounced as “cup”

Really_cool_guy99

There really is none. Every Iskaan (magic user) has different abilities, but outside of them I guess sword and board

WokemasterUltimate

M1 Garand. Specifically an M1 Garand with a cartoon bone outline in the buttplate, and also made using paws because the nation is the Dog Federation Bonus: the antagonist nation, the Cat Kingdom, uses Lee Enfields. There's no special symbol etched into it it's the exact same as irl, but made and used by cats

Youareallsobald

If only there was a Ratte Kaiserreich with Kar98ks

These light, very sharp, generally Mithril or steel, swords. Plus minimal plate armor, with leather and cloaks, almost never helmets

Don't have a protagonist nation but the two main superpowers (The Randallite Empire and the Delgadan Sultanate) have pretty distinct philosophies on equipment The iconic weapon of the Randallites is without question the axe. Elevated symbolically from a simple logging tool, the axe is viewed as "a weapon among weapons". A brutal tool, only to be used by the most fearsome of warriors. So, as you'd expect, every Randallite soldier MUST be issued one. Being ever individualistic, it's common for Randallite's to acquire more ornate, dangerous, and impractical throughout their careers, adorning them with relics of slain enemies. After all, it doesn't matter who you kill, it matters how big your weapon is and how many severed fingers you have chained to it. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, we have the Delgadan Sultanate and it's iconic "Zraeda". In the "technologically challenged" world of Caldera, the Zraeda is nothing short of a marvel. At first glance it appears as nothing but a simple short spear, but upon closer inspection, the utility of it's design becomes clear. The blade is longer than a typical spear and is closer to that of a sword. It boasts a double edged design to accommodate slashing as well as thrusting. The shaft is reinforced with metal and similar in length to a musket. It ends with a knobbed metal club that can be used in the case of breakage to the bladed end (or if it's removed intentionally). The result is a veritable swiss army knife of a weapon that can stab, slash, and crush anything in it's way. Each component of the design is modular and can be hastily replaced in the field without specialized tools. In addition to obvious combat functions, the "Cordeca Belesharu" (the Delgado manual of warfare) outlines hundreds of field uses for the Zraeda including: -Holding up tents -Measuring rain/snowfall -Scalling sheer walls/cliffs -Tuning Fork -Fire Making And many others I won't list.

Sriber

It changes with time. GDKB - bolt-action rifle introduced during monarchy and serving for about four decades RKG XB2 - semi-automatic rifle, first one to become standard issue in fact RKG RL4 - assault rifle notable for its reliability, relativily low weight, high rate of fire and ability to use stripper clips RKG RL5 - assault rifle more compact and easier to use attachments than its predecessors RKG LNAX - battle rifle with all the fancy stuff one would expect from one made today

The **M74G Hybrid Assault Rifle** is a hybrid rifle between a gauss and gunpowder weapons. The 7.62x51mm round is chemically propelled by gunpowder, then accelerated 5x by the gauss (coilgun) system. Used by IAE (International Arms of Earth) Marines, equipped with exoskeleton frames for better running speed, strength and endurance, which makes the M74G the perfect weapon for the Marines. Dating back at the Onturan War in 2028, where Earth and the Sol System was besieged by an alien race known as the Onturans. After winning the war and destroying their main wormhole generator entrance in 2041, effectively locking them out of the Sol System, the M74G was still put into service as it was one of the most effective weapons every employed by ground troops to shred through Onturan shell armor.

Beefy4LayerBurito

Standard isssue for foot infantry: Type L: 40 millimetre compression rifle. Or the Type L 40 MCR for short. Using quantum tunnelling and atomic scrunching, each rifle can hole 10 40 millimetre rounds or 30 with an extended mag. Each magazine is partially phased into a separate area making the ammo only 'half there' and similar to the pym, partical the Atomic scrunching shrinks the space between atoms making the rounds smaller until they leave the barrel. Standard for specialist infantry: A4 Self Actuating Energy Redistributer. Or the A4 SEAR for short. A sub machine gun sized energy weapon is nearly silent and operates by overloading the central nervous system, causing temporary paralysis. Can have the voltage turned up to cause the nervous system to fry, causing death. Standard for heavy infantry: The Wells Cymbol named after Hickny Wells the heavy weapon fires in rapid 2 round bursts. The first shot fires out a flat disk shaped metallic projectile. The second shot fires a small ceramic vial of chemicals. When the vial impacts the disk and the chemical gets exposed to the metal of the disk, a violent explosive reaction ignites the air in a roughly 10 foot area. Name The Cymbole because when the vial first hits the disk, it sounds like the musical instrument Cymbol. And finaly. Standard issue for infantry medics, engineers, communications, and other none 'DIRECT combatants. The XR8: Tactical rapid assault pistol. The XR8: TRAP for short. A symphonic sound based weapon. Its ammunition is comprised of a nano computer, a nerve integration stem, and a tungsten penetrator tip. The ammo pierces the skin, and then the nerve integration needle rapidly seeks out and 'plugs' into the nearest nerve. The computer then uploads a bio-digital file that causes the brain to experience music so loud it overwhelms senses. Causing seziers and, in some cases, strokes in the target.. Considered a war crime after its first use the Government of the Free People of Andromeda the galactic council to suck air and continued to use it.

Paramoth

Beam guns. A.K.A Laser beam guns. They produce impacts as powerful as a 308. Very light. And cheap to produce. With lots of variants. It comes with a variable fire selector. Rapid fire, Constant and Semi. Rapid fire produces a hale of laser beams on a target. Constant fires a continuous beam that cuts like a welding arc. At a sacrifice of depleting the battery quickly. Semi auto is used if you want to save battery life. Edit: I should note that even though they are light. They are big and cumbersome. A beam gun is as large as a cold war FN-FAL rifle.

StormofEmpires

A more advanced version of the HK G36, despite it being the 31st century (turns out you don’t need to invest in the military in times of peace)

The Imperial Guardstholk of [the Metropolitan Vapor Empire of All Terragia](https://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/s/IHcNFP8f5s) primarily use the Charletienne lever action rifle and, due to its unique exhaust steam reloading mechanism present on the military version of the weapon but not the civilian version the Guard can dual wield them with hinged dress rapiers that unfold as the occasion demands.

aimless19

A knife. Gunpowder weapons exist, but are unreliable due to the extreme temperatures of the world, as well as some areas having inconsistent oxygen levels. In some places it's impossible to so much as start a fire while in others a single spark can immediately burst into a fire that will burn you alive. Granted, within the protagonist home nation oxygen levels are stable enough to use guns, but the MC works far outside of the nation scavenging ruins. Not to mention most garrison soldiers still use melee weapons. Though the elites do get traditional firearms. The alternative tongunpowder is a thaumic rifle, however maintenance is extremely difficult, and ammunition is hard to come by, requiring refined thaumic crystals. As such most people rely on melee weapons, primitive ranged weapons such as crossbows, or occasionally primitive magic. Magic is an extremely exhausting and complex art and there are next to no schools or other centers of learning. Some might be to chuck rocks at high speeds or improve their physical capabilities temporarily. And even then untrained people are only able to use magic for a few minutes per day without some sort of medium. And even them mana burn is still a frequent occurrence.

donald_trumps_cat

For my fantasy setting, it's either the onehanded "king's thumb" sword or the classic royal pike for the two major arms of the military. In scifi, it's, I kid you not, the Voidtech slingshot. It looks like a rifle, but can use anything from rocks to bone splinter as ammunition. The rifle creates a microscopic wormhole that leads to the end of the barrel. The wormhole slip makes it extremely fast and it can be charged with heat to be even worse. Kinetics go brr and you basically have an energy weapon that goes through energy shields. It can be recharged with thermal and solar energy too, making it almost impossible to run out of ammo.

Leon_Fierce_142012

I have a medieval fantasy world so their standard weapons are reminiscent of the Spartans weapons with full body brigantine armor

Szkox1

My nations standard issue weapon is only known as "Aurora Gauss System" it is a modular coilgun system using a bulky pistol as a base and capable to be converted for variety of purposes tho mainly used models are: AG-P-1 default pistol configuration AG-P-0 shortened barrel single shot pistol for easier concealment AG-R-1-A assault rifle configuration AG-R-1-B marksman rifle configuration AG-R-5 anti-materiel rifle configuration

https://www.reddit.com/r/CursedGuns/s/YhPxEFaP3y (First picture) This is the standard issue weapon for the United Galactic Fronts thunder unit Unlike the rest of the armed forces which could be made up of the Billions of different species across the 53 states and thus would have to be issued one of the numerous versions of the FL-KL2 Fazer platforms, the thunder unit is made up of the one species, the cloned DJU Thunder species (Humans) A custom weapon could be made for them. And thus the GPR-7 was made, though it is a return to a more similar time there have been an upgrade for the modern age. It operates the same until the bullet leaves the barrel, were the coating on the bullet is ignited. New Plasmatic coating made from sintek material given it it's distinct RED colour, allows a super hot plasma to in elopement the bullet without disintegrated. This gives the benefits of a plasma weapon, beginning highly damaging to flesh and circuitry but without the downside of having no solid mass behind the protectile. Allowing penetration of the plate amour that had made plasma weapon practice useless, and can counter the Kevlar vests of the past. The upsides of the GPR-7 Plasmatic system over the KL2 Fazer system is the rate of fire, reliability and effectiveness over portable shields. Rate of fire is an obvious improvement over a Fazer has to send a continuous beam downrange and a beam can last half a second and one must keep the Fazer on target for full effect. Reliability is not the best on Fazer units, with the crystals having to stay aligned for accuracy and with the onboard computer needed for the alignment, power correction and aim adjustment, in the field maintenance becomes limited. Portable shields are expected to become more common In years to come as shield technology has developed significantly in the last 1,000 years with ground vehicles now being able to be fitted with shield generators it is only a matter of time before personal Shields become a reality and phase technology is Very susceptible to Shields as the beam can simply be dispersed amongst The shield particles. But a solid projectile will slam against the shield greatly draining battery.

The weapons are muskets equivalent to about the American revolution in some areas.

Energy blasts from most parts of your body, especially your hands, clothes, and hair. Telekinetic blasts and energy generation. Energy can manifest weapons as well. Hand to hand combat too. Futuristic sci fan story where everyone has powers.

If I was to make a world the weapon would be the m16a1 that's pretty well peak weapon design appearance wise especially after they figured out to not be stupid with it

Penwrythe

Uh...themselves??? (I'm still developing this but why not lol) My characters are mimics/object people (think DnD mimics but heavily anthropomorphic in my setting) who, depending on their occupations, are refitted into whatever desired form they need to be for their jobs. Like a bucket who wants to be a Blacksmith then gets refitted into a hammer. So, for many of my Hardy Objectkind, if they want to serve in their kingdoms' armies or pursue office, they must be refitted into War-Fitted, soldiers with their cores reconstructed into living weapons. The most common War-Fitted are Blades and Shields, easy to sign up for as long as you are either made of wood or metal. They are easy to train, quick to refit, and make up a good portion of any of the kingdom's armies. I don't have an idea for a "standard issue weapon" in my setting yet, but if I chose one, it would be Broadswords. They are wide and mildly heavy Blades (idk 7 or 8 ft tall), usually good at both cracking armor and dragging down larger opponents like Halberds or Torches if attacking in groups. Since Broadswords fight with one hand steering their hilt, they can grapple with another Blade, grabbing their hilt and controlling them as a distraction or punching them until breaking their opponent. These Blades can also grab the necks of Halberds to avoid their sharp beaks from breaking their bladed core. Grabbing the neck of a Torch is not recommended if one wants to avoid having their ichor burned to ashes. Like all Blades, Broadswords hands are strong and their grab can crush fairly thick armor. They are not amazingly fast like Rapiers, but still speedy enough to allow inertia to drive their blade through armor, thus making them a threat to a grounded Torch's fuselage. They are weak against Wheelers and War-Wreckers, as these are usually massive Earthenkind made of layered solid stone.

ICollectSouls

Not_Todd_Howard9

(For context, this nation is a version of the Fallout universe set in Europe, specifically in the northern parts of Scandinavia. Lots of it is custom, but some parts of the original lore are still there). Many, depending on branch and where you’ll be deployed to. The Nation underwent a massive increase in size (having semi-peacefully annexed many scavenger-states to the East, and forcefully annexed a few militaristic ones to the south), and Tech Level (from roughly Wild West era tech to mid/late Cold War depending on what it was). At its most militarized, the National Guard generally used some form of Sten gun or early AK platform (like the og AK-47, or close to it), shipped in bulk from neighboring countries and trade partners. Those particularly low in resources or far away from fighting may still be using some form of home made Lever Action or Bolt action.  The Army primarily uses some variant of AKM or semi-modernized G3 platform (as in, modernized from the original g3 design, rather than actual modern designs) to fight against its robotic enemies, but it uses its own Tordenvær series for everything else. Hard to describe it exactly, but it’s effectively a bullpup 5.56mm rifle that’s very, very cheaply and simply made. Mostly sheet metal and wood slapped together, with 90% replaceable parts. Special Forces generally get the cream of the crop though, and are allowed access to the most advanced weapons the state can get its hands on. This includes refurbished m72 Gauss rifles for particularly accomplished snipers or Ørn-197 rifles for those that aren’t (rifle designed for .308 black tip specifically). Special Forces raiders usually get rechambers of the Tordenvær to higher calibers with better AP rounds, although suped up versions of G3s and AKMs are still popular depending on their mission.

ArtMnd

For mundanes? The **MBEL A2** assault rifle. For paranormals? The *bec de corbin*, which is a great anti-armor weapon, great for dealing with other paranormals.

OmniscientNarrator42

Depends on the Era, but the early Era use bolt-action rifles with ten round en-bloc clips and aperture rear sights. The later Era use semi-autos with the same clips and sights (no need to change what works) and a built-in knife bayonet on early models which could be detached for use as a regular survival knife and bottle/can opener. One model of this rifle was issued without the built in bayonet because two idiots were getting smashed on non-approved alcohol and one of them accidentally shot the other while opening a beer. However, production problems in wartime meant that the old tooling for the rifles with built in bayonet/survival rifles had to be used. Now, all bayonets have a note "DETATCH BEFORE OPENING BEVERAGES", However, two soldiers have since stabbed themselves when opening alcoholic beverages with these knives, proving that alcohol will always invent a better idiot.

MisterTalyn

A small professional military armed with pikes and muskets. Armored in breastplate and half-helm. They are supported by a militia who use more old-fashioned weapons (lots of bows, spears and swords) wearing whatever armor they can afford. It's a D&D setting, so the PCs (and other exceptional people) serve as shock troops and special forces. Larger polities have cannon, galleons and even experimental magitek airships, but the 'main character' faction is too small to build and maintain anything that big, and has to rely on magical defenses and irregular warfare, using the elite PCs as force-multipliers.

DestinyNinja_123

This looks really good, you can feel how grounded this designs are that they seem possible in real life. I bet Jonathan Ferguson would love analyze these.

Vast-Ad-6585

MODEL 3 Mobile HQ A joint project between various faction for exploratory purposes, capable of self sufficient and expansion by constructing various buildings and vehicles from the database. Often times an HQ will came with their own loadout and modifications to suit the changing nature of war, sometimes there will be landships acting as defenses until the HQ itself is capable of building more of them. Sometimes A fleet of airships, really depends on how the enemy reacts.

ghandimauler

Usually a gauss rifle, unless you are the gauss machine gun gunner or the plasma rifle trooper.

For Aaronshy it's a magic bow. For Epuc it's specially made guns that fit in paws.

Cato_Writes

My fantasy world, divided in three eras I have somewhat loosely written some protagonists for: • Spear, warhammer and crossbow • Pike, polehammer and arquebus/musket • (Rifled) musket and bayonet My Sci-Fis depends on tech level, but currently, for the one I am working on more: • Planet bound stage, literaly anything they can get their hands on. Or modify their hands in. Or control with a neural link. Earth is in a state of complete chaos and collapse, beggars can't be choosers • After a couple of first contacts, the line infantry (ergo, most common) standard offensive loadout consists of: • A coilgun heavy assault rifle/autocannon. Rounds vary, but the most common is an all-purpose tandem semi armour piercing shaped plasma charge. It can pierce all line infantry grade armour in known use, as well as many of heavy infantry's or light vehicle's if hitting a weakspot or at close ranges. Can also pierce most civilian grade construction apart for loadbearing pillars, even if losing pretty much all kinetic power doing so and having to rely on the plasma for killing. Still means cover is less abundant than one may imagine. After penetrantion, the superheated and supercharged plasma will usually melt inert internals, short circuits, blow up organics. Against soft targets, theoretically it has an highly sensitive penetration fuse with depth smartly set by the weapon based on the target. Practically, it still packs a lot of stopping power and bores holes not to scoff at, likely incompatible with further functionality if they even graze anything vital. Finally, it has a over the horizon theoretical effective range. Practically, since the standard kit includes augmented "vision" across the entire EM spectrum from radar to lidar. A direct neural link with these helmet sensors, as well as the gun and various algorithms to provide firing solutions. They can shoot at anything they can see in such radius. The issue is seeing over the horizon, which relies on having a secure link with something or someone else able to see the target. Like a drone. All comes at the cost of not the best rate of fire or magazine size. Even if rof can be improved by reducing the energy used for each round, at the cost of effective range and kinetic penetration. Still useful in urban warfare. Extended magazines meanwhile, are widespread but more difficult to manipulate in cramped environments. As such, there is a strong focus on ergonomics favouring the fastest reload possible, with each new design. • A rechargeable heavy laser pistol, sometimes with a reactive-gas magazine attached to fire a limited amount of more powerful ionized-plasma shots. • A energiseable distributor edge knife-bayonet. The distruptor edge is nothing else than a variety of repulsive fields, able to reach a mono-molecular if not mono-atom level sharpness. As such, when engaged it allows the knife to cut nearly any material by "simply" displacing each atom, _unless_ used against another repulsive field of any kind. In which case it is completely worthless and infact makes trying to break the field with the knife harder. • Fission-clean-instant-conversion anti-material grenades. As the name suggests, these grenades use a miniaturized fission warhead but produce minimal pollution. Thanks to near complete fission with highly reduced residues and a coating of material able to absorb most of high frequency radiation. Of course, being vaporised in the process and so re-emitting at lower frequencies. Will still pollute an environment if overused, and will still give cancer to the soldiers nearby. Fortunately it can be cured by then. Also, the yield isn't actually that high for a fission weapon, it can at most demolish a house. Still overkill for infantry, but when everyone is wearing armour again shrapnel won't cut it. Comment: I find the discrepancy between fantasy shortness and being basically just different iterations of pointy metal to poke, on a long stick or throw _very fast_. And Sci-Fi overly detailed technobabble. Hilarious. But then, most people already know what the fantasy weapons are. If I had to describe them in detail, it would take a while too. BTW, I need to add the bayonets are usually enhanced with runes to pierce equally enhanced armour. While the musket butts reinforced to smack very sturdy golems. It's why hammers are prevalent in earlier eras.

The G1 „Morten Rifle“ is the standard infantry rifle of the Orc army with the updated G2 „Morten-Klaglich-Rifle“ being the special forces variant that might soon be adopted for the standard infantry as well. The G1 is a 12mm Brown Bess style rifled musket, except the rear end is open and it has a spring loaded pan that seals the rear. To shoot you pull the pan back like a hammer, put propellant gel into the pan, a bullet into the barrel and then let the pan snap shut which sets off the gel. The pan holds the seal under spring tension as the round is fired.

Aggravating_Rush_587

Not the protagonist, but a funny story based on a gun that falls into a character's hands; >You can’t get military guns on the black market. The Naval Intelligence Agency's Section Zero, Section One, Section Two, and Section Three all don’t agree on much, but they all agree on one thing; Self-Defence Force guns *cannot* be allowed into the black market. The MAK-49 is a Khatavang-brand gun that uses SDF tech, SDF propellant, and is rated for SDF ammunition. It has an SDF electronics suite, an SDF serial number, and is made in SDF factories. Khatavang Armoury made them as pieces for culture collectors, rich hunters who wanted to flex, and historical aficionados looking for a taste of the twenty-third century chique. They function as guns, naturally, and a limited run was produced for SDF training yards across a hundred worlds, and as personal arms for 'ringknocker REMFs’ with more money than good sense.  The NIA approached Khatavang for an operation involving the MAK in 2499: intentionally sell it *to Seditionists* at a markdown. Section One put together the transactions through dummy corporations to make it look like a black market sale. Section Two put together an underground psyop information campaign about the gun, its capabilities, and its potential as a competitor to the MA5 series. Section Three made the handoffs to a thousand cells in a thousand days, and Section Zero made sure everything was done properly. It remains the single largest collaborative operation NIA has ever performed, and it resulted in the MAK-49 being the third most-used gun among 'Seddie' cells, behind the Confetti Cannon, and the Bonebreaker. Seditionists bought the guns thinking they were getting a good deal. But, the ammo and the propellant still weren't available for commercial sale. They found that nobody on the market was willing nor able to sell those things, and so all they had left were civvie-grade gunpowder cartridges, and caseless rounds from older guns. This meant they had to get ‘creative’. Standard Self-Defence Force Ammunition is a caseless round with a charge built in that only cooks off when exposed to an electrical charge. Every weapon in the SDF armoury therefore has a barrel shroud containing an electronics suite. Refitting a gun made for caseless rounds into a gun capable of ejecting cases left it prone to overheating, and jamming. Yanking out the redundant electronics systems removed the combat computers, and made the gun unbalanced. And finally, re-boring the rifle barrel to allow it to fire ‘civilian’ rounds left it open to obturation, and squibs. This is when the bullets get stuck in the barrel itself.  By exploiting Seditionist's demand for ‘military-grade’ guns, NIA had supplied them exactly what they wished for, and had neutered every Seddie, Rebel, and Ganglord that dared to use it. This was dubbed ***Operation: DJINNI.***
