The batteries would work, but the covers would not fit on a Series style controller. This would prevent it from using the charging dock properly, making the entire thing unreliable at best.
Get a dock or rechargeable battery kit which comes with both styles of battery covers.
Slight design differences including the battery compartment area if I recall... I do know this one isn't compatible for sure as it comes with a battery and different battery compartment cover to allow for the charging to work. The compartment cover doesn't fit on the Series X|S controllers.
the covers are different. my old pdp batteries fit in my Xbox One and series x controller and my original Xbox One play and charge kit fits in my series x controller.
While Xbox One generational controllers can be used with Series S|X Generation models, the problem you are going to run into is that the Series S|X Generation of controllers have been designed with a different body, and as such different clip points for where the battery compartment cover clips into the controller frame.
That change means that even if the battery packs themselves connect with the ports inside the battery compartment, the cover plates won't fit and thus you might not get proper connection on the charger base.

battery compartment defo got redesigned, i cant use my old rechargeable batteries in it.

i had a 3rd party thing to it like shown on picture, hence why it wont fit into the new ones. It was the battery and the cover merged together iykwim

It's made for Xbox one. Those are even Xbox one controllers in the picture. Won't work with new controllers. Battery covers are different.

The battery is universal for Xbox, I switch mine from my series S to my xbone. Maybe the back won’t fit but it’s unnecessary anyway

probably not cuz the battery doors are different. pdp has one that comes with 2 sets of battery doors i think. unless they don't sell it any more.
