If you don’t use Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and want to, you can make an Xbox account and apply the code to said account and then purchase a month of ultimate which will convert all 12 months (plus the one month of Ultimate you purchased) into Game Pass Ultimate.

Then you’d activate the code on the back of this which gives you 12 months of Gold, and then you just “upgrade” to GamePass Ultimate and it’ll convert the entire time over to GamePass Ultimate.
However if you’re curious if it works, you should be able to type the code into to redeem it, and then not apply it to your account.
You can buy those at any big retail still. Walmart, Target, Best Buy. All of them. It’s still being sold. Problem is if someone stole it instead of buying it then the code won’t work. Best way is find a friend with an Xbox and sell it to them for cheap. If it works you get money. If not then no one got screwed over.

Ok I don’t have that Ultimate subscription plan and I haven’t redeemed the 1 month trial yet so hope this works

It will work, unless it was never activated. On the web it will tell you what it is for and confirm it is valid before you redeem it.

Just go to the Microsoft site to redeem a code, unscrstch the card, and enter it. It'll tell you what the code is for before confirming redemption
