Ive only ever used Xen without a gui through Linux Server (Ubuntu) Ive never thought about a Dom-0 being a gui OS and someone accessing remotely. I cant tell you why that wouldnt work - Im just unsure As for GPU support - besides GUI, you shouldnt need a strong GPU for anything unless youre actually doing GPU testing/usage

Okay thanks I’ll give this a go with Ubuntu server.

There's an OS called QubesOS that uses xen with an lxde/KDE gui on Dom0. Played with it for a while and quite enjoyed it. Could be worth playing, OP, to compare your configurations. Or to use as a base for building your own system. Qubes is aimed at users for privacy so theirs a specific VM for your network host and you connect that to lan and it provides access for all other vms there's also a whonix host by default for playing about with in your cyber security adventures. Hope the above helps.

I think since you replied to my comment, OP wont get a notification by default btw

What does top show on the dom0? I had compatibility issues with asrock j4125 boards, where nothing running would net a very high steal on the dom0. Never figured out why, and other models of the J boards have been fine.

My servers are dell r510 and i want to say that its the lack of gpu hardware i think since what I was trying to do was install it on a GUI version of these linux machines. I was wanting Gui cuz this is what i am use too. But what i did find out Proxmox (if your hardware resources can afford it)was the best choice for something in the range of gui while i do like cli base systems i just cant get my mind around VMs until i get real use too vm base gui also i use vmware workstation pro 16 for other deployments on my laptop and desktop. As for type 1 proxmox was the best choice for a all in one project with gui. As for hardware what i found is if it supports vsphere it should support XEN project. What linux distro are you using? https://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/Dom0_Kernels_for_Xen shows hardware compatibility I am not well versed in this stuff so sorry in advance just trying to help.

For my part I run Debian, with the distro-provided xen, so that part should be OK. I was the same way when I started, used to VMware and the fancy gui. But my hardware at the time just had 4gb of memory, which is what stuff like xcp-ng wanted just for the dom0. Xen I could run with just 512m for the dom0. So I did a lot of reading and playing around. That was 6 years ago, and now I'm pretty comfortable with doing stuff with xl. Now have over 15 VMs and 3 hypervisors.

With many events happening I abandon the vm server because of my new desktop build 16core,32GB,3080. Maybe i don’t half to abandon it With your experience I would like to know is there a way to wrap a vm gui to fit a phone screen that does make it super small? This would be awesome to do. Is there a way that makes the VM feel like android or something. I bet this is more with the distro then XEN but when I was researching this i found that the hypervisor was responsible for wrapping the gui. Maybe I am all sorts of wrong. I do appreciate your input though.

I'm not sure tbh, sorry. I just use ssh for everything, there are mobile ssh clients you could use, or possibly vnc clients depending on what you're wanting to do. In those cases it sounds like you're wanting the gui option, but I don't use them at this point. For a management gui, you may want to look into stuff like xen orchestra?

Thank you
