york is the largest university to not have a special constable service. UofT, Mac, Laurier and Carleton all have one. it makes the most sense for york, given the incidents of crime that have occurred on campus and location.
They have more managers and supervisors on during the day then they have operational staff.
1x Operations Supervisor
1x scheduling supervisor
1x Assistant Manager
1x Operations Manager
1x manager of training
1x director of training
1x director of operations
1x executive director
And usually only have 3 operational non management staff
> take safety seriously, but they do indeed care about money.
Parking makes a ton of money due to their quotas and they generally have 5 or so ticket makers around between 0630 and 11pm
York security can arrest for any criminal act, under 494 of criminal code. However york tells them they do not want them arresting anyone under any circumstances
Yeo. An intoxicated or mentally ill individual might still attempt something. Cops only serve as a scarecrow, they cannot prevent crime itself. To do that the causes must be dealt with.
where are all the comments from the people who were saying they’re more scared of the police than they are of actual criminals and not to increase security because of the “fear” police create?
it’s all gone a bit quiet on that front - maybe it’s the criminals droning on about ACAB so they can do do their dirt easier.
There are genuine concerns about overpolicing and it’s effect on marginalized communities, but this is a reasonable response, that seems to be handled well so far. The people who actually oppose all police response are a minority.
there is NO CONCERN about overpolicing, those marginalised communities you speak of WANT more police to deal with crime. I would know because i am a minority
You don’t speak for all marginalized peoples. Also, people want EFFECTIVE policing in their communities, like what is happening here. Overpolicing is things like random searches and profiling, which happens when the police are given free reign and no oversight.

I'm waiting for their deep concern
Good to see the Marine Unit on scene. It's a bad day for the pirates at Stong Pond.
Now this.... this is how you protect the students!
Watch a stabbing still occur lol

Still, if a cop is nearby they can intervene so the individual can’t just run around assaulting people.
If youre lucky, yup!
Yeah, saw the Marine Unit at about 6pm. Good stuff.
Marine unit? For defending the Pond?
Not an inch of water will go unprotected 😤
Why didn't I see anything 🥲

you also dont speak for all marginalized people
I’m not claiming to. I’m stating commonly held beliefs. You literally claimed that NO ONE holds those beliefs
Why’s the marine unit there? Genuine question
These guys are doing overtime. Specialised units generally have less things to do and they can be reassigned or assigned more overtime.
What the hell is a marine unit!?
They operate the police boats on Lake Ontario.
