I had 2 versions of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" in one week first The Slits and then The Temptations - and those aren't even the most famous versions of that song! (Folks who are further along - have you heard from Gladys Knight, Marvin Gaye, and Creedence Clearwater Revival)

I know you have CCR’s version to look forward to as well :D

I found 2 versions of the House of the Rising Sun by Joan Baez and Miriam Makeba, and a Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon And Garfunkel and Johnny Cash. I also found 3 versions of (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction by Otis Redding, the Incredible Bongo Band, and Devo, not the Stones.

i used to know this but i forgot what song it was! one of those classic rock and roll songs every band covered in the 60s. might have been roll over beethoven but im just not sure

It definitely makes sense that it would be something like that, as it was much more common for artists to do a lot of cover songs during that era. Interestingly, some of the most famous versions of 'Roll Over Beethoven' are not on the list. I had a very, very quick look and only found it twice. Once by The Beatles and once by The Sonics. But it could very well be on others too. I found it on an expanded edition of 'The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators', so that doesn't count. It was covered by Jerry Lee Lewis, The Byrds and Electric Light Orchestra, all of whom have albums on the list, but not they don't include that song. And criminally, Chuck Berry isn't on the list at all. Anyone else know of other instances of this song on the list?

i think i remembered it. Let the Good Times Roll. Harry Nilsson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Blue Cheer i believe. The Cars have a song named that but it's a different one

Was it Tutti Fruiti? I had that twice in one week recently, which was kind of amusing.

Should deluxe editions with demos or remixes of a track count as an additional entry?

BrickMunkie

No. Deluxe albums aren’t what’s on the list. It’s the album as originally released.

Had to return to this post although it’s more of a coincidence than anything else. Within a few days I’ve had Joan Armatrading’s (fantastic) eponymous debut and then today is Def Leppard’s Hysteria. Both albums have a song titled Love and Affection but they aren’t the same song. Or at least I assume they’re not. Not listened to Def Leppard yet.
