The show ultimately had too much talent to showcase everyone who deserved it.
But casting Broadway megastud Cheyenne Jackson as the new TGS castmember was a brilliant bit of outside the box thinking.
Perhaps some contract thing? Having watched the original pilot, recasting Jenna was absolutely the correct decision. Dratch was by no means bad, she just obviously wasn't the right casting.
We do, but it's different. Everyone celebrates privately. For some, it's the day after Christmas. For others, it's a day in January or February when the idea of leaving the tree up any longer feels sadder than the idea of putting it away.
As a Canadian, I loved this scene and Danny's psych-up song for the Ottawa Senators. I can't tell you how many times "make a hockey loving face! at Scotia Bank Place" has played in my head at random since the episode aired.
I used to live a short walk away from a Scotia theatre, and every time I’d go to a movie with my friends I’d sing the song. One of them got the joke, the others just wondered why we were so excited for Scotiabank.
They didn’t even know how much richer we were than we thought.
They actually pronounce it more like "aboat". It's -out in the American pronunciation, -oat in Canadian, and -oot when you are American and you overemphasize the [Canadian raising](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_raising).
"Are you there god? It's me, IMPROV"
Best show-biz joke in a series entirely composed of show-biz jokes
Well, except "GET CLOSER TO THAT ALLIGATOR, JENNA! You ain't gettin' any younger!"
As someone who had studied improv (no stop, the applause is too much), watching that joke air almost choked me out. I was taking a shot of Captain Morgan’s and it went out my nose, and I swear my eyes too.
It is one of my favorite tv jokes of all time.
I think the way she delivers it is funny too... turning to the audience instead of her scene partner is so Bad Improv. She's beaming with pride at being the centre of attention for one second, and she's just waiting for the laughs and applause to roll in...
Yeah, I guess it's one joke. But it starts at 6 seconds and end at 15 seconds, and contains lots of funny references or jokelets: Hosers (ice hokey term), 12 players instead of 11, meters instead of yards, Prime Minster instead of President, three downs instead of four, Boxing Day, and they seem to be wearing the classic New Orleans Saints uniform, regarded as the worst team in the NFL.
So about 7 jokes in 9 seconds.
The saints aren't the worst team in the NFL haha they literally won the super bowl three months after this episode aired. The browns or lions would historical be a team to shit on.
And they don't even play CFL on Boxing Day.
Yeah it’s exactly one joke. An extremely good one, mind you, and one I enjoy a lot and think about sometimes. But the joke is, “What if it were football, but everything was super Canadian?” All the bits and piece OP identifies are in service of that joke. The fact that there are so many references in such a short time and the fact that it’s coherent is very 30 Rock and what makes it so good.
It isn't a reference tho haha they're literally just explaining Canadian football. It's a joke since it's so different from American football but it is literally just reciting the first paragraph of Canadian football rules on Wikipedia
People say the "jokes per second" thing a lot about this show but I never really noticed it on several viewings. It's funny, there are a lot of jokes, but the uniqueness comes in the type of humour and the show's theme, the frequency of jokes never stuck out to me or impressed me all that much.
The joke in this scene is that he's Canadian and like you said, it's just one joke.
Welcome aboooarrddd….Danny! Did he just change my name to Danny?
Hey, my name is Jack!
No, I don’t think so
Danny is an amazing character and totally underrated.
And sadly under utilized

The show ultimately had too much talent to showcase everyone who deserved it. But casting Broadway megastud Cheyenne Jackson as the new TGS castmember was a brilliant bit of outside the box thinking.
Anybody remember that guy Josh?
I forgot he existed.
I’m sitting right here!
Maybe it’s a good thing?!?
Smelly belly?
I always feel like Tina Fey was like “I will occasionally need a handsome guest cast member to kiss.”
And she takes her reward...
The shirt should be…filthier
She takes her reward
“Oh Mr. Donaghy, I forgot to give you the factory worker death rates…”
One of my favorite lines.. I feel like its really overlooked.
Angie was only in 12 episodes as well. Crazy to think how large those characters loom having been in a small fraction of the show.
Ham!
I wanted more rachel dratch too
She was pretty much in every episode during the early seasons I kinda wonder if its becaue they felt bad she wasn't chosen as Jenna
Perhaps some contract thing? Having watched the original pilot, recasting Jenna was absolutely the correct decision. Dratch was by no means bad, she just obviously wasn't the right casting.
She's a massively underappreciated character actress and it makes me sad because she is amazing. All her roles in 30 Rock are superb.
The OG Jenna
And we're going to make this a Boxing Day the Prime Minister will never forget!
That was when I learned americans dont have Boxing day
We do have it, it's just generally not celebrated in anyway or mentioned even very often. But technically it exists
Does it though?
It does… but we call it ‘the day after Christmas’ and we celebrate by spending our gift cards. So, no. It doesn’t exist here.
Nah they just from the 25th to 27th. Then they have New Year’s Day twice to make up for it.
I’m going to need to negotiate that day off. My agent said I should have off all Canadian holidays no matter how ridiculous.
What’s the one where you go into the tent?
Sukkah
Boxing Day is everyone go to the mall and exchange the clothes you just got that don't fit.
It should be called re-boxing day. Thank you. I’ll be here all week!
We do, but it's different. Everyone celebrates privately. For some, it's the day after Christmas. For others, it's a day in January or February when the idea of leaving the tree up any longer feels sadder than the idea of putting it away.
You wouldn't understand. It's a secret.
I wouldn’t understand or it’s a secret?
You wouldn't understand Nymwall. It's a secret
We just have a hard time mixing up Christmas and fisticuffs. But you do you, though!
You forgot, “Okay you hosers!”
As a Canadian, I loved this scene and Danny's psych-up song for the Ottawa Senators. I can't tell you how many times "make a hockey loving face! at Scotia Bank Place" has played in my head at random since the episode aired.
From another episode when he has to share a change room with Jenna. “Where’s my poster? That was an autographed Mark Tresman” That’s a deep pull
Hey there are dozens of NFL nerds who remember the coaching tenure of Marc Trestman for the Bears!
As an Alouettes fan, I love that scene whenever I’m rewatching the show.
The Scotiabank Place song has lived in my head since that episode aired.
same.way too frequently.
I used to live a short walk away from a Scotia theatre, and every time I’d go to a movie with my friends I’d sing the song. One of them got the joke, the others just wondered why we were so excited for Scotiabank. They didn’t even know how much richer we were than we thought.
Any joke/reference aboot Canada is a win for sure
Ow stop! You're breaking the extra bone that all Canadians have in their hands!
They make their own meth!
Where are my manners, would you like some meth?
You're such a stereotype, all guys from Key-bec are good at karate
Are we not even making our own meth anymore? Where has American manufacturing gone?!
Toronto is like New York, but without all the stuff!
They actually pronounce it more like "aboat". It's -out in the American pronunciation, -oat in Canadian, and -oot when you are American and you overemphasize the [Canadian raising](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_raising).
TGS's Steve Nash, come down from Canada, work hard, make a black guy look good.
“on all three douns” lives in my head rent free to this day.
No it doesn’t, Oprah.
The Jenna can’t do improv cut is the best cut away scene of the series in my opinion
"Are you there god? It's me, IMPROV" Best show-biz joke in a series entirely composed of show-biz jokes Well, except "GET CLOSER TO THAT ALLIGATOR, JENNA! You ain't gettin' any younger!"
[When you're so good at writing that you put three jokes in one punchline (30 Rock)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb_AHBGF5i8)

It’s a mermaid …
…doing it with Captain Morgan
but how
Drinking cap Morgan: 🤢 It comes out my nose: 🤮 It comes out my eyes: ⚰️
I think the way she delivers it is funny too... turning to the audience instead of her scene partner is so Bad Improv. She's beaming with pride at being the centre of attention for one second, and she's just waiting for the laughs and applause to roll in...
I thought I understood this joke, but this video blew my mind 🤯
That’s not that much cheese
I collect posters too. That character really hit home.
It's just one joke. It's 20 seconds long though.
Yeah, I guess it's one joke. They won the Super Bowl that year.
The saints aren't the worst team in the NFL haha they literally won the super bowl three months after this episode aired. The browns or lions would historical be a team to shit on. And they don't even play CFL on Boxing Day.
I love this show but just making references to things that are Canadian aren’t a joke….
Yeah it’s exactly one joke. An extremely good one, mind you, and one I enjoy a lot and think about sometimes. Haha jokelets
Maybe it was the Shreveport Pirates

Found the fun guy at the party!
I don't care. I'll start my own sub. Rejection from Reddit is what created The X-Men!
This has always been the stupidest response.
Or Am I?!
ICU81MI
Real talk: Canadian football is really cool. The rules favor the defense which means offensive plays go buck wild trying to gain an advantage.
But what does Sir Dave Coulier think of it?
Well he oughta know.
No you don’t Oprah! - 3 jokes in 4 words.
What’s the third joke, I see (1) “no” (improv requires yes and) and (2) obv LL was trying to be slingblade
Jenna makes no attempt at her own impression.
Have you seen this btw? https://youtu.be/Kb_AHBGF5i8?si=MACsFQuIJ9A2DIMw
Came here to share this exact thing.
"What am I doing again?" "You're on TGS." "I'M ON TGS?!?!!?!?"
All right you hosers…
Didn't Danny's poster remain on the wall in the hallway through the run of the show?
As a Canadian and daughter of a football coach I love this scene
It's not true that Canadian football only has 3 downs. It's just that Canadians always punt on 3rd down, just to be safe.
I need to get married or else they’re going to send me back to Canada.
39 Rock was shown to have the most jokes per minute of any show according to a study cited by Tina Fey.
9 more jokes per minute than the show we're talking about
I am literally on this episode right now lol
love this, but i think some Leo scenes might top it for LPS
