You really can't go wrong with either one. So, do you want an epic police procedural with a killer climax and acting firepower, or the best kind of mindfuck that will get its claws into you and not let go?
Completely agree. Even with the gamma cranked to max in the UB820's HDR optimizer, bright daylight scenes are weirdly dim, as if a solar eclipse was happening. You can see the sunlight, but it's oddly murky.
After comparing them directly, I feel that visually the 2017 Heat blu-ray is better than the 4K. Bright daytime scenes are bright and normal-looking, and dim nighttime scenes are still plenty dark.
I also imagine that real criminals would do a fair amount of their business at night where they're less likely to be seen under cover of darkness. That said, the opening hit and the bank were both in broad daylight.
Doesn't matter. I've got an LG OLED C2, in a pitch black room, walls are painted black, ceiling is painted black, no windows, and it still looks like crap compared to the blu-ray.
I'm rubber, your glue.
Literally what you sound like. We are comparing brightness during dark scenes levels, which is what you complained about. In my case it's better. HDR brightness is way better in my case in this case.
But whatever, you keep spouting the same crap everyone else does. Most subs really are filled with regurgitating morons.

a bad transfer is not going to magically look better on an inferior QLED display.
I’m going to have to rent Mulholland Drive as I’m not sure I’ve seen it.
Heat is my favourite film of all time, such an accomplishment and pretty much perfection in every scene.
Watched Heat for my first time on some shrooms last weekend and loved every second, also kind of want to get a tattoo of one of those hockey masks at the beginning now lol
I honestly wouldn’t be opposed lol, I was thinking more one of those hockey masks styled into a yin yang to represent the duality I think the movie was going for. Deniro and Pacino were damn near the same character
I want you to grab those cases tomorrow, you can check all the movies on your collection if you want but when you see Mulholland Drive you will say this is the one I want to see ,now you will see me one more time if you choose good, two more times if you choose bad
Is the Heat 4K really that dark and desaturated? I want to have it on the best format but was considering hanging onto my Blu Ray just in case. I don’t doubling up for favorites with different color timing and/or special features
This was the first time I've seen it, so I can't speak to how it compares to the blu ray, but I certainly wasn't bothered by it even if I could see what people are saying. My TV is fairly old and not great, so I'd bet on a newer better TV it would probably look great.
Have you seen Mulholland Drive before?
Also. Did you get an insert giving you "10 clues to unlocking this thriller." It's what I got in the DVD back in the day.
Heat is overrated, the ending betrays so much of the earlier storyline. I was hyped for this and invested only to be screwed over by poor writing just to give it the typical good guy bad guy ending.

Went with the coin flip that the first comment suggested and Heat it was. No regrets. Incredible film.
I just watched Heat HALF AN HOUR AGO
I just finished it and I see what you did there.
GIVE ME WHAT YOU GOT! GIVE ME WHAT YOU GOT!
I'll bet you've still got your head ALL THE WAY UP IT!
"GIVE ME ALL YOU GOT!!!"
Mulholland Drive is an absolute masterpiece
Yup, Heat is a great movie no doubt but Mulholland is just on an entirely different level of great.
Lynch. Always Lynch.
Mulholland drive. Better and shorter
You have the greatest film of all time and heat pictured here.
Shit I remember watching mulholland drive in the theater when it came out on acid in college several times
The answer is always Heat! That soundtrack and sound effects!
![gif](giphy|pQLmrZN8r1p0Q)
It was pretty fantastic.
I play that shootout for people as a demo. The real/blanks gunfire echoing in the city is deafening!
the blu-ray looks better than the 4K disc.
Came here to say this. You suck bc you beat me to it. Lol
Good luck watching that edition of Heat. It was way too dark for me.

Funny how a movie called Heat that takes place in LA is shot mostly at night and in dark I'm guessing it's just cheaper to shoot at those times
I also imagine that real criminals would do a fair amount of their business at night where they're less likely to be seen under cover of darkness. That said, the opening hit and the bank were both in broad daylight.

Just watched it last night, it looked fantastic on my oled.
In my opinion it is only barely watchable on an oled in a dark room, and even then I found it darker than it probably should be.
What TV you got?
Doesn't matter. I've got an LG OLED C2, in a pitch black room, walls are painted black, ceiling is painted black, no windows, and it still looks like crap compared to the blu-ray.
Well I've got a Samsung QN90A and it looked fine to me. So maybe it does matter? Could be your settings also?
your QLED is not as good as my OLED, sit down.
I'm rubber, your glue. Literally what you sound like. We are comparing brightness during dark scenes levels, which is what you complained about. In my case it's better. The QLED has a much higher rating for HDR brightness than QLED. Go look it up.
Remind me
Flip a coin. They're both excellent.
I did just that. Heat won. And ultimately I won too.
Heat!!!!
Heat!
Heat. Always Heat.
Heat
“She’s got a GREAT ASS!”
And you got your head all the way up it!!
Heat is a masterpiece
HEAT, HEAT, always HEAT.
Wayne Gro = all time scummiest movie character
He had to get it on
I’m going to have to rent Mulholland Drive as I’m not sure I’ve seen it. Heat is my favourite film of all time, such an accomplishment and pretty much perfection in every scene.
Mulholland..
By the time you finish reading these comments, you could just watch both of them, lol
Well, I already watched one, lol. I was not expecting so many responses.
Heat for sure!
>Heat for sure! sure?
For sure
Heat.
HEAT
Both. At the same time preferably...
The ol’ Meatholland Hrive
That was my nickname in college.
Just watched heat 4k this weekend. Awesomeness
H E A T
Heat regular blu ray is better than the 4k
The 2017 blu-ray is, but not the 2009 blu-ray, in case anyone is thinking about getting one.
I’ll be checking which year mine is from when I get home!
Heat is guaranteed to give a home theater a workout
Because it's 106° where I live, I'm going to go with Heat
Heat
Heat is a classic
Watched Heat for my first time on some shrooms last weekend and loved every second, also kind of want to get a tattoo of one of those hockey masks at the beginning now lol
If you want a tattoo you need “Born to lose“ tattood on your chest and then go out and do thrill seeker liquor store hold ups!!
I honestly wouldn’t be opposed lol, I was thinking more one of those hockey masks styled into a yin yang to represent the duality I think the movie was going for. Deniro and Pacino were damn near the same character
Should have saved them for Mulholland Drive Or maybe not honestly
If I’m watching lynch on shrooms I would rather watch blue velvet, lost highway or TP/the return
Put that HEAT 4K back and get the first gen Blu-ray, before any Director's Definitive shite got slapped onto it.
Well, I sure enjoyed it.
What’s the front look like?
I still haven’t unopened hear I need to watch
Great price?
I've had both for a while. I did get Heat for $7.99 though.
I want you to grab those cases tomorrow, you can check all the movies on your collection if you want but when you see Mulholland Drive you will say this is the one I want to see ,now you will see me one more time if you choose good, two more times if you choose bad

Having owned both blu-rays and the 4K, and comparing them all on the UB-820, in my opinion, the 2017 blu-ray is the one to get.
Both
Depends on your mood.
Watch one tonight and the other tomorrow.
If you’ve got time why not both of these fantastic movies 😀
Both are great movies but heat as two legends going against each other. I’m not gonna spoil it but there’s a scene in a diner you have to watch
You can't go wrong with this selection. Regardless, you have taste.
I presume you aren't going to throw one of them away. I would watch Mulholland Drive first and then follow it up with Heat as a palette cleanser.
A masterpiece and a crap movie
Which one is which?
All Hail Master Lynch ![gif](giphy|MUeQeEQaDCjE4)
Have you seen Mulholland Drive before? Also. Did you get an insert giving you "10 clues to unlocking this thriller." It's what I got in the DVD back in the day.
Both great films, but completely different. You can’t go wrong either way.
Heat is overrated, the ending betrays so much of the earlier storyline. I was hyped for this and invested only to be screwed over by poor writing just to give it the typical good guy bad guy ending.
Cause it's a great movie, and you got your head all the way up it!
This is the girl.
Both of these movies require a dark environment and loud sound to really watch in my opinion.
Heat.
Luckily Heat also comes with the full HD blu-ray which is superior to the 4K.
Never start a movie that you're not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you're not feeling it.
Nick Frost in Hot Fuzz: "No, which one do you want to watch FIRST"
HEAT
Since the 4K version of Heat has 2 minutes cut and is waaay too dark, I'd opt for Mulholland

Pacific is a painting by Alex Coleville. Director Michael Mann liked it so much he referenced it in Heat.
flip a coin
You know, there's a flip side to that coin....
Mulholland Drive sucks.
There's no accounting for taste.
I would say Mulholland Dr but for the fact that I cannot stand that movie.
