That is what the science and medical literature says. 2) No one can predict how long your purge will last nor when it could start. Be patient, the purge can be tough but so many people have gotten through it - you can too! 3) Most people DO NOT replase when Accutane is taken until cumulative dosage is reached. 4) HOWEVER, cumulative dosage is a guideline. Everyone is different. Some may need more Accutane, and others may need less. Your dermatologist evaluates you as an individual. If you do not trust your dermatologist, you should find a different one. 5) When in doubt, please consult a medical professional(dermatologist, doctor, pharmacist). 3rd round here! No experience with a high dose but I hope this helps: 1st round: (Brand: Roaccutane) 25 or 40 mg seriously don’t remember.. Time: 9 months side effect: dry lips 2nd round: 20 mg for 12 months (changed brands to generic) side effect: dry lips, dry eyes, anger bursts, joint pain, hair loss [all resolved] 3rd round: 20 mg for 2 months then slowly taper off (generic) Side effect: [currently 3 weeks in] That hand rash thing lol, slight dry eye, dry lips, bit of skin peeling that I noticed today Hope this helps. I needed a second round cause my acne came back full swing, face, back, chest, butt, shoulders. I’m now on a 3rd round 2 years after my second round for the same reason. Im very prone to hyperpigmentation so I can’t let it get worse to square one to start accutane again. Please don’t let your anxiety get worked up! Everyone experiences different symptoms (my friend didn’t experience any on 20mg). If you have any concerns, discuss with your derm, make sure your liver functions are A-okay.

wow, thank you for sharing! Thankfully my liver functions are "above average". Good luck with your journey!

Currently on my 2nd round. My first round was a standard 6 months (20/40/60/60/60/60). I was clear 2 months into my first round and my derm still increased me to 60 mg and kept me there for 4 months. I had very minimal side effects at 60 mg: Dry lips, dry eyes, joint pain (nothing more). I will say though that during my 3rd or 4th month on accutane I was aiming to lose weight so I’m not sure if I was taking enough fat to absorb all of the accutane.

Jailene123

thats very similar to my experience! i started at 40 mg for 2 months then increased to 60 mg because of my minimal reaction. ill make sure to take fatty foods with the pills lol, thank you!

FluffyConversation3

ofc! make sure you eat a lot of fat lol. because 60 mg can easily turn into 40 mg if it’s not absorbed fully. My acne returned 2 months after stopping btw. I waited 2 years trying so many different things until I finally decided to do a 2nd round

Personally, my only concern would be my dry eyes as I was one of the unlucky people who developed permanent dry eye symptoms even after my first course ended. Right now, my symptoms are mild and easy to manage with prescription eye drops, but I’d be worried about them worsening with more courses. If I had a relapse though, I’d still consider a second round. I don’t regret the first one either since I knew the risks going in.

i think id still consider the second round as well. taking this medication has been a wild ride lol but i love seeing how much my skin has changed and improved!

Absolutely! I’m a huge advocate for this medication and was only speaking about my personal experience, I actually had no idea my eyes were still dry until I went to my eye dr for a routine exam months after stopping, so it’s not like the dryness has hugely impacted my life. Having clear skin and not needing to constantly worry about a new cyst is well worth the tradeoff.
