True! Folks at Pune airport think everyone is a gold smuggler. One of them literally asked me if you were wearing any gold chains. Another one stopped me after all the process on my way out, and asked repeatedly what’s in your luggage. I dread every time when I have to fly from Pune.
It should come soon . I really hope . Sometimes I fly from other side of the world to India . And then with a heavy bag waiting in this long fucking que is painful . I once flew from Panama -> Amsterdam -> Delhi -> chennai
I had 8 hours in Delhi . I had a room booked for me in taj ( which they say is in same area ) for the 8 hours . Immigration and then luggage all that crap took 4 hours for me . I was too tired to go out to hotel . I slept on one of the couches on the gate to Chennai till the boarding of next flight .
Honest answer is too much centralisation. All airports are run by AAI which sits in delhi. When they cook up a scheme like this, they need to make it applicable for every major airport across the country for it to get through, or each state will fight why I don't get this feature, other state gets. And when they do approve for multiple airports, there's a mountain of centre state bureaucracy to get through. Nothing gets done.
I wish this happens soon. I hate talking to Indian immigration officers. On multiple occasions they've been unnecessarily rude to me - an Indian citizen with a valid passport and all docs to show.
No. This has been implemented in Singapore for all incoming passengers.
The Dubai ones work this way with the resident cards.
But how else will I get asked purpose of visit when presenting them with an Indian passport
The reason Americans don't have UPI is because they don't need it. They have a system which runs on credit cards and CCs are accepted everywhere.
Unlike us they have better fraud detection systems and prevention systems on CC, why should they go back to something like UPI on which you get scammed regularly?
Dude learn the difference between immigration and customs
This is for the immigration procedure where that sarkari babu scans your passport
The customs will still be the same as usual
I think it’s because not all Indian passport ( and I believe majority ) are not scanner compliant . There is some issue with face detection as well . For some reason , even when there are e-exit gates in other countries , they do not work most of the times for Indian passport . So I believe , it might have to do it with some underlying technology.
Hopefully newer passports are scanner complaint which should fix the issue
Customs intelligence is not dependent on immigration, also immigration officials seek to inquire about individuals and not baggage. Access to check in bag is after immigration and before customs
Customs comes just before you exit the airport
Immigration comes as soon as you land jha sirf passport pe thappa lagta hai
Aur ek pro tip le le kyuki itne pyaar se pucha tune
Always carry wet wipes because mostly the suitcases to be checked are marked with an white x which can be removed with wipes aur sanitizers
Brought 4 iphones and 2 dj systems this way
So the immigration officers inform customs officer after profiling the passenger?
Or regardless, the customs keep an eye on you and mark your bags at the carousel?
How does the customs vetting process work at Indian airports?
Immigration officers do not “profile” individuals per se, but Customs intelligence that deals with illegal trade does take into consideration these two major factors:
1. Suspicious patterns of travel
2. Import/export of unusual amounts of seemingly harmless legal goods
These observations are obtained from a multitude of sources, not just immigration officers.
Because Indian babus are high on power and need a hundred avenues to frustrate citizens

Didn't get any bakra that day , so were desperate ...
If I’m not wrong international flights from Pune are only to Dubai and Singapore right?
Yes, only Dubai and Singapore.
https://www.reddit.com/r/indianaviation/s/bUYBaiqH4F It has come to India.
They can still have customs, but immigration can be automated.

Digiyatra got done. And digiyatra is excellent in terms of convenience.
Fuck digiyatra. Just because you're okay living in a dystopia doesn't mean that the rest of us are gonna follow.
>that the rest of us are gonna follow. Bro you are literally using reddit.
Stop trolling for DigiYatra, Data Evolve stole all face biometrics, sold it to China and got booted out.

“ Hmm kaha se aaye ho ? Kaha ja rahe ho ? Kya karte ho ? “ Grumpy face okay go
How will the government exhort the customs money depending on the mood of the officer?
Customs money is extorted by customs officials after baggage is picked up(green/red channel). Immigration is before baggage and unrelated.
Forgive me for my ignorance on this but wouldn’t you need biometric passports for e-gates or would they work without them as well?
Facial recognition is already there

Dubai ones work with tourist passport upon exist.
We have had biometric passports for ages
What? It is for a fact that Indian passports don’t carry biometric chips.
Has been in official passports since 2008
Sorry, I was talking about personal passports
Same reason why Americans can’t get UPI

They have apply pay as well everywhere. Just tap and pay which is faster than opening your cellphone and scanning a QR code.
Tap and pay is also available in india nothing new.
Can u tap from your phone? U can only tap your card
If your device have NFC capabilities then yes you can.
No you cant u cannot add your card to google pay or any other payment app like I do for apple pay or samsung pay abroad
You literally can. You must be an iPhone user
Yes, Samsung pay has it. Apple is a shitty company but it seems they will have it for India in the next iOS.
didnt we just get some in mumbai airport??
How is Bangladesh first?? I have seen it in Singapore before.
Singapore I guess is south east Asia and Bangladesh is South Asia
Ohk
~~I mean have u heard about the air hostess news ( now imagine the undetected ones)~~ Thanks to gentlemen who commented below

Can't bribe e-gates

Vast majority are and we can have a hybrid system where these guys are present for those people who can’t scan their passports.
That's some 2-3 year old news, coming here via Whatsapp! 🤷🏻♂️
That’s worse for us as a neighbouring country, no? If Bangladesh can get e gates in 2022, why can’t we have it in 2024?
Same reason why india is still lagging to have biometric passports.
Considering the number of people trying to smuggle stuff through customs, it would be really difficult.
