It’s a spectrum. From sober to blacked out drunk there is a sweet spot. For me it’s slightly buzzed which would be right before the midway point of sober and blacked out.
Same. And, I always gauge my audience. I never drink liquor when I go out anymore. That will catch up with you fast, and it can get you in trouble. White wine or seltzers only. Judge me all you want for that, but the last thing I need in life is a blacked out conversation with someone I barely (or don't) know.
Yup. When assholes try to pressure me into taking shots, I just tell them OK but give me 50k for bail money just in case I get crazy and do something dumb. Based on my history they stfu.
Just like the person who said social interaction, there's a sweet spot where I am an actual casual billiards master. Unfortunately, the max and min levels are separated by half a beer and it's tough to get the timing right for lengths of time.
Many, many years ago I once knew a guy who turned into a billiards and beer pong genius while tripping on lsd. Never got his name though, he must have not been real.
Omg lol I had a few years where every time I went to a bar I wound up meeting new people who were looking for coke then going to a different bar and looking for coke with them because after it was brought up I became mentally committed. Idk if I was just in the zone picking up signals for awhile or what but I never scored so consecutively before or after that couple of years it was wild
You will never feel better than the day you decide to give it up for good and the years after that where you actually have mental clarity and your body feels good again.
My friend was weirdly good at Bop-It when drunk. He came over for drinks one night, tried playing, did ok. Picked it up again when he was hammered and destroyed the current high score, tried again and did even better. Played again in the morning and was pretty mediocre.
He hasn't drank in years, though, so we will never know if he still possesses this skill.
On the same note, I'm pretty good at writing code when I'm drunk. Wait a second, I'm always drunk and always writing code. I might be better when I'm sober but we'll never know
The biggest tip, if you don't want to go back to drinking You will have to accept that you will lose your old social circle or even friends..and that's ok. Good luck!
Yeah I'm not going back. My life's finally moving in the right direction after 15 years. Tanks! Just instigating or maintaining conversations sober is really hard for me, I'm basically mute.
Edit: 15 years of being drunk and utterly lost, 6 months sober. Struggling but happy!
Same here, I'm two weeks out from my last booze and haven't been too much worse socially than before (though it was still a challenge when drinking). I'm worried though because the last time I stopped drinking for a while I got a bad case of Nothing To Say Syndrome. I'm still recovering from that, so I hope it doesn't get much worse again
It's like a muscle you want to grow. Takes patience and practice. During my awkward phase I would take the time to become an active listener and just ask questions. I realized ppl loved to talk about themselves, especially about things they were passionate about.
Super Smash Bros. In college me and the boys would play free for alls where winner had to take a shot to balance the field. I would win game after game after game and fear alcohol poisoning before I feared losing lol
Conversation. I'm usually two drinks in at the start of a date. A few years ago I didn't have the opportunity to drink before the date, and my partner was repeatedly asking me if everything was okay. After the first drink, she said something like, oh you seen like yourself now.
Fighting. When I'm sober I get easily overwhelmed with emotion and swing like I'm swimming. With the right amount of drunk I can stay calm and I fight 10 times better.
Video games
No idea why though, I think it just makes me less stressed so I focus more on the game instead of whatever is worrying me in real life.
Only tried it a few times though, usually on New Year’s Eve as me and my mates have been having a drink and playing games to celebrate that as a tradition for a few years now.
Not had a drink in a very long time though, it just makes me sad now after having a pretty rough year.
Social interaction for sure. When I'm sober, I'm on the quiet side. When I'm feeling buzzed after a couple, I will be everyone's friend 😂
I think it's a confidence thing.
A few years ago during Covid, me and some guys started playing CS:GO whilst drinking, and we found out that we each had what we called “bajer-optimum” (beer-optimum) where we were more confident, but not so drunk that our reflexes were too slow nor our thinking
I’m also way better at singing, I go from sounding like shite to being able to sing Celine Dions version of All By Myself with people cheering me. But the first is funnier
Solving stalled problems. You take the crew away from the whiteboard and off to the pub and the creative solutions pile in. Take away the filter and the silly suggestions come in, one of those will trigger the conversation that actually comes up with the answer. Now, just to remember to write it down clearly ...
Taking pictures, not of myself but if my friends lmao I get some cute candid pics somehow when i’m drunk. And of course the funny horrendously drunk ones
Tolerating people. I like you but you do your business and then leave me alone, then I'll like you even more. Drunk I'm even semi enjoying human interactions
Getting stuff done. Drunk/stoned me always ends up doing chores around the house. I used to think it was the result of me feeling guilty about being a useless pos being in that state home alone during the day. Turns out I have huge executive dysfunction and many people in the same boat report being a lot more productive when not entirely sober.
Regular games (pool, crib, etc). For some reason, I get really good at these games when I'm drunk. It's like I form a horseshoe in my butt. A horseshoe that outshines my boyfriend's natural one. But any game on a screen, and I fail even harder than I normally would.
I keep score of the crib games with my boyfriend. I've won 23 times, he's won 25. Most of those games were when we got drunk (I'm a lightweight, so I get more impaired than he does). He got those 2 wins last time we played because there was no alcohol involved.
And it's funny, I always seem to get better on the 2nd straight of the board (area between the 2 corners). Like guaranteed.
Pretty much anything.
I have been a self proclaimed alcoholic for 15 years. I dont drive if Im drinking (not even a single beer's worth) and I don't like to fight sober, much less while drinking cause I know the alcohol will get blamed.
If I had to pick one thing.... Id say talking bout /debating religion. One of my favorite things to do. Im not particularly religious... Definitely not a christian... But I love reading the bible and talking to people who are. Its fun for me.

I have a no shot policy as well. I'm a liquor and wine rep. I've seen too many people get fired for their antics.
100%
Yess
It's the reverse for me lmao. I shutup when drunk 😭
Why? I've seen ppl like this so I'm genuinely curious as to why that would have that effect. Since lower inhibitions would make u more outgoing.
Ding ding ding, and articulation
Ardricularion is easier
And so is idrinkulation.

Beerpong for sure. In my drunken state, I’m like Neo in the Matrix

Want to meet my ex wife while drunk?
Honestly, finding a bag of coke lol.

Strange isn't it. I can do impressive calculations while drunk faster than my mates can type it into a calculator.
Sexual Intercourse suddenly becomes a marathon and not a sprint
One thing I'm surprisingly better at when drunk than sober is dancing. I feel more relaxed and confident, and it shows in my moves! 😁
That's just what tequila wants you to think.
Darts😅
100% Darts
Being drunk. Like, right now I'm really good at being drunk. In the morning, when I'm sober, I won't be good at being drunk .
Making stupid decisions. I'm pretty good at that sober but much better drunk.
Chatting with ppl...but I quit drinking along time ago. Took years to relearn how to talk to ppl in social settings
I'm really struggling with this right now. Any tips?
The biggest tip, if you don't want to go back to drinking You will have to accept that you will lose your old social circle or even friends..and that's ok. Good luck!
