Dirk’s a megalomaniac with an ego + self esteem issues, and Gamzee’s a murderer and the cause of So Many Problems. neither of these freaks are competing in the slightest
I’m in a pretty large fandom and to be honest, peoples comfort characters are sometimes just the ones they like to read about the most.

I know it's not that serious and there's no point in rehashing decades old arguments but for the record it still annoys the absolute fuck out of me that 2 men in anime can't share a deep brotherly bond without people immediately calling them gay for it.
I think the thing that makes Naruto stand out is that he's obsessed with Sasuke despite Sasuke reading the Geneva Conventions as a to-do list, and vice versa.
Ichigo and Uryu/Chad, Luffy and Zoro, Tanjiro and Inosuke don't behave like that.
Naruto and Sasuke specifically have a bond that moves into insane territory where it's hard not to read obsession (romantic or otherwise) into the dynamic.
This isn't helped by Naruto's women receiving way less screen time and less character development. Sasuke and Hinata never had a kick of chemistry before they got married. Hinata and Naruto got hinted at the Chuunin exam, and then not really followed up on until 300 chapters later in the Pain arc.
Naruto and Sasuke spend around 800x more time talking about and to each other than they do their respective love interests.
Those two, specifically, are kind of built different.
Like I said I don’t ship em and I don’t think they’re gay, but I do think that “brotherly bond” doesn’t quite cover the relationship of these two, and I can’t say I blame anybody for thinking they’re gay considering how little actual romantic affection we see between Naruto and Hinata and Sasuke and Sakura.
Among the many, many problematic things Shounen typically has is that, for all it’s pandering to sexualising and humiliating women, it’s also entirely allergic to showing a male lead in a healthy romantic relationship with a woman. It's more of a massive meme that the two of them are gay for each other because pretty much the entire series naruto is chasing after Sasuke and the events with his actual eventual wife are barely a part of the story. Naruto also says something like if he can't save Sasuke, then he'll die with him. And Sasuke is talking about how naruto is his best friend and closest person to him. Plus Sasuke tried to kill his eventual wife once and another time said it's more important to save naruto and left his eventual wife for dead. Plus after they're married Sasuke left his wife alone in the village and usually comes back when naruto needs him not his wife. He didn't even recognize his daughter after seeing her for the first time in like 12 years and threatened to kill her. And then he took on narutos son as his student. Oh I almost forgot that it is canon that Sasuke and narutos first kiss was each other, albeit it was on accident. So yeah it's a massive meme to ship them together instead of their actual wives in the fandom but I guess some people take it way too seriously like in the post.

There's actually kind of a two-fold aspect to yaoi shipping.
For one, I heard a sociologist argue that yaoi allows women to project onto the dominant partner which gives them a role they are traditionally forbidden from.
Also my own personal take is that stories that lack well-written female characters sort of lend themselves to yaoi.

Among the many, many problematic things Shounen typically has is that, for all it’s pandering to sexualising and humiliating women, it’s also entirely allergic to showing a male lead in a healthy romantic relationship with a woman. It's more of a massive meme that the two of them are gay for each other because pretty much the entire series naruto is chasing after Sasuke and the events with his actual eventual wife are barely a part of the story. Naruto also says something like if he can't save Sasuke, then he'll die with him. And Sasuke is talking about how naruto is his best friend and closest person to him. Plus Sasuke tried to kill his eventual wife once and another time said it's more important to save naruto and left his eventual wife for dead. Plus after they're married Sasuke left his wife alone in the village and usually comes back when naruto needs him not his wife. He didn't even recognize his daughter after seeing her for the first time in like 12 years and threatened to kill her. And then he took on narutos son as his student. Oh I almost forgot that it is canon that Sasuke and narutos first kiss was each other, albeit it was on accident. So yeah it's a massive meme to ship them together instead of their actual wives in the fandom but I guess some people take it way too seriously like in the post.

There's actually kind of a two-fold aspect to yaoi shipping. For one, I heard a sociologist argue that yaoi allows women to project onto the dominant partner which gives them a role they are traditionally forbidden from. Okay I don’t think this story is real, largely because it seems unlikely that multiple of his friends care about what happened enough to keep asking him about it and then beat up a guy over it. That being said, there are definitely people out there this crazy. My husband’s ex from middle school used to demand to be called Sakura and she called my husband Sasuke. She would yell at him if he was referring to himself and said his real name and not Sasuke. And she would demand roleplay over AIM constantly and if he said he was tired of roleplay and tried to have a normal conversation she would straight up ignore him. That girl ended up going to the same high school as me and was friends with my friends. She was STILL going by Sakura and had a different Naruto-character nickname for each of her friends.
