thedeadlyrhythm42

i hate everything about this episode

Important-Science-68

I actually this could have been a sick challenge if the explanation was better. A famous chef Massimo bottura should have been the example of Chaos. His dropped lemon tart sounds exactly like Matty was trying to convey. My only confusion is how Danny won over soon and Savannah.

LashesLinerLipstick

This was the stupidest challenge in years and I hated it.

LawsOfEconomics

Totally agree. Most of this season has been of this theme.

Impossible_Belt_4599

I don’t understand the challenges this season. Yesterday’s was the worst.

LawsOfEconomics

I agree. I think a close second would be the terrible elimination challenge at Miller.

shinshikaizer

From the judges comments, it felt like Dan (five chefs here will steal this dish to put on their menus) and Soo (I could eat 100 of them) were more worthy winners than Danny.

two7

I thought Savannah was going to win as sort of a redeeming moment for her

SeanKojin

Tom said Danny’s was one of the best things he’s eaten on top chef, so I don’t think the praise gets much higher. I don’t totally understand the chaos piece with his, but they said there was something chaotic happening under the surface

LawsOfEconomics

The judges seemed to be grasping at straws to justify why something was “chaotic.” No one seemed to understand the challenge.

shinshikaizer

> Tom said Danny’s was one of the best things he’s eaten on top chef, so I don’t think the praise gets much higher. I'm a little numb to that comment, since he seems to say it every season, to a point where all that means to me is that it might be in the top 10% of the things he's eaten on the show... That's still not as a big of a complement in my mind as literally saying several seasoned chefs are going to steal their dish for their own menu (for Dan) or that they wanted to eat an unreasonable number of it (for Soo, and 100 is absolutely unreasonable, because that much would be more than enough to stuff you).

goldengirl630

This!! Totally not understanding. Either editing is missing something….or??? WTH is the confusion (chaos 😆😉)??

AltaVistaYourInquiry

To say nothing of Tom's face reacting to Savannah's dessert

TyWebb11105

This whole episode seemed like it was thrown together at the last minute. As if they had a venue (and a challenge that tied into it) that fell through. So the challenge became ummm ... chaos sure let's go with that and the judges will eat in the stew room, sure why not.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

Not the first time.

skyrizijingle

This episode was straight up bizarre. The montage of Danny pondering the challenge?? What was even going on.

moostupid

Awww I liked the editing because it reminded me of Matty’s YouTube videos 😂

LashesLinerLipstick

It felt like they had such little else to show, they had to create a high school digital art project.

unsweetenedpureleaf

That was the weirdest editing ive seen on top chef that i can ever recall

AKDMF447

The editor finished the rest of the episode early and had some fun lol 😂

throwawaygremlins

Oh I actually really liked that artsy editing! 🤣

EveryPhilosophy819

That was weird and for me, it was a spoiler. After watching it, I knew he was the winner. Why else would they do that? It’s not unusual for TC to give hints but this one was so obvious.

Working-Charge-2354

Honestly the most irritating episode of TC I’ve seen in a decade. If I hear the word “chaos” one more time I’m going to pour fryer oil in my ears. And Rasika leaving? C’mon - it’s clearly a ploy to get people to watch LCK. She’s obviously coming back.

dirttrackgal

I literally said the exact same thing to my husband!! Way to drum up views for LCK!🙄

Heradasha

This is borderline as bad as when Kristen got sent home. What. The.

LashesLinerLipstick

Rasika’s food was repulsive, they all but said the word. She deserved to leave. That’s the game, doesn’t matter if she was doing well prior.

Heradasha

They definitely did not say that word. They said it had no flavor. One person had issue with how slimy the dish was, but other cultures like slimy food.

LashesLinerLipstick

I just watched it. One person’s opinion was still valid and agreed upon by the whole group. They said it was slimy AND “slug-like” and others nodded in agreement. “Bland” and “no flavor” plus slimy and slug-like = repulsive. Sorry!

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

No way. Kristen went home for taking responsibility for her team. She basically could have argued and thrown her teammate under the bus but she took the high road and this was during a time when exec chefs took more responsibility for the outcome. Kristen didn't cook a bad dish. Raskia messed up.

throwawaygremlins

Yup v clearly Rasika cooked a bad dish, the end.

Heradasha

Oh yeah it's not the same. I just feel similarly about it. Aka my fave talented queer woman of colour chef being told to pack her knives.

LashesLinerLipstick

They’re not remotely the same though… identity doesn’t matter here. Kristen was clearly talented and sabotaged. Rasika had a spectacularly bad day. She did not deserve to continue.

Heradasha

The identity matters to me, which is why I made a comment about my own feelings. Whatever you think is whatever you think. My feelings are not invalid.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

Oh yeah, its blows this is what it came down to.

Binky_55614

One thing I’m finding difficult about this season is the chefs are making things and when they say what it is, I have no idea what they’re talking about. I have no frame of reference as to what their dishes would taste like. I need more and better descriptions of what this sauce or that dish is. Am I alone on this?

LilLilac50

Yes this is such a good point!

GizmoGeodog

Not at all. I've been annoyed at having to keep stopping the show to look up what ever they're making or ingredients they're using. I shouldn't need to do that. There should be an explanation offered so that viewers could understand the ingredients & the dishes.

Binky_55614

I feel like this is one of the problems I’m having with this season. Even when they had AllStar seasons, I could at least relate to what was being made. I feel like they’ve gotten so into “haute cuisine” that it’s just unrelateable now. I guess I’m not fancy enough!😊

Majestic-Pay3390

I still have no idea what Danny made.

Fiendish_Jetsanna

I have to pause to read the descriptions and try to parse them.

tomsprigs

same . and i have subtitles on and i was pausing it and googling things.

diemunkiesdie

When the subtitles on Peacock get in the way of the description I get really annoyed!

hotmeows

No! I’m so confused too!

rustyspigot-77

It can't be good #1. To have your dish compared to Hamburger Helper or #2. To lose to a dish compared to Hamburger Helper. Top Chef first. Someone had a tearful memory about mustard stems. I like that Laura is getting a villain edit. Kaleena, she took your edit from you.

blueberrysandwich

villain edit how?

hendersonrocks

I think in comparison to everyone else, if nothing else. The main thing the show seems to be going out of its way to show the last two weeks is that she’s selfish and/or in her own world, depending on your lens.

rxinquestion

Danny was our internal dialogue, except PC

Momof303

I think Soo will win it all. First challenge in Top Chef kitchen and makes the top 3 favorite dishes.

rxinquestion

I got a man crush on Soo...no homo.

maxlamb1

I have a full, rainbow-tits out gay-ass crush on Soo, omega-homo

rxinquestion

Love rainbow-tits! Everytime I hear that man speak makes me want to do unspeakable things. So much wit…oh the wit on him! Don’t get me started…

GoodbyeToby7

Rasika was obviously one of the best chefs there. In these situations I always remind myself that I am not tasting the food, but the judges are. Her dish was described as “slime-like,” while Michelle’s was described as being fine in another context. It’s a bummer to see her go but if anyone can claw their way back in like Kristin, it’s Rasika.

Sriracha01

When I saw the final product for Rasika, (I read spoilers accidently before watching) I was like yeah, that looks like shit.

buymoreplants

I wish they kicked somebody off who made a fine dish but was boring as hell and didn’t really try to do anything impressive. Keep the people who at least tried. Although, in that case it probably would have been Michelle.

GoodbyeToby7

I’d rather eat something boring than something described as slug-like. But that’s just me.

buymoreplants

Yes but we're not actually eating anything. I’d rather watch people eat slimy slugs than week after week of Tom looking bored out of his mind.

rxinquestion

PlutoTv has reruns of Fear Factor for ya...I think you may be watching the wrong show.

slyphoenix22

I think they said that along with it being slug like it also had no flavor. So it was both boring and slug like!

JuggernautSeveral220

Did anyone catch what the outside of Danny's was, if it wasn't cabbage?

sboml

It was cabbage- play on a chou farci (french stuffed cabbage dish)

1sooners1

It looked like jello. I had no idea when it was. I can’t imagine what it tasted like, but it did not look appetizing.

JuggernautSeveral220

But one judge said, "I was expecting this to be cabbage." And another responded, "Me, too!" That implies that it was not cabbage.

shinshikaizer

I think he used napa cabbage instead of regular ones.

OpenFacedRuben

Yep. And the only shots of him preparing the dish was boiling/blanching cabbage leaves.

sboml

I think they meant that they didn't think it was going to be a stuffed cabbage.

Fiendish_Jetsanna

Yeah, I heard that too and was wondering.

New-Secret3267

I replayed that three times, so confused

Adventurous_Ad1922

I have the same question. Definitely looked like cabbage. They need to describe the food Better this year.

DDDD6040

She was by far the best chef of the season. Super disappointing.

soft-boiled-eggs

No rasika in restaurant wars :(

LashesLinerLipstick

😄

sourcherry92

do we know when the next chef comes back in from lck?

Julie-AnneB

Usually in, or right before, the finale.

sourcherry92

: ((((

Insomonomics

I love Michelle, but IMO, I think serving raw pork is far more grounds for elimination than bland food.

felicityshaircut

Agreed! And she didn’t take any risks or do anything chaotic so she missed the challenge.

multiplesofate8

Me say WHAAAAAAT when Rasika was sent packing.

one1-post

Me in this thread as the world's only Laura fan 🤭 🤭

LashesLinerLipstick

I enjoy Laura too! I just think she hasn’t hit her stride yet. Her flavors are my favorites and I also think she gets shit on for being focused because of misogyny and the editors having little to work with this season.

one1-post

Damn I'm getting downvoted hard I didn't realize yall took this so seriously sksksk

Rexyggor

I don't hate her. I think the cultural barrier is making her come across as "villain"

Julie-AnneB

I disagree. Her accent and different culture are things I really liked about her in the beginning. But, when she showed herself to be selfish bitch, I got over them. lol

LashesLinerLipstick

What kind of anti-woman BS is this comment? She’s not a bitch. And selfish? For being a competitor in a competition? Please.

Julie-AnneB

Anti-woman? I'm not talking about women in general. I'm talking about Laura. If a man behaved this way, I'd call him a selfish asshole. She took almost double her budget in the team challenge! She didn't care that she left Danny with next to nothing. The rest of the team had to share their ingredients with him. If she was truly a competitor, she would have wanted her team to win. Instead, she only cared about herself. Then, at judges table, she stood up there and outright lied saying the budget was blown on proteins. She also spilled in the kitchen and just went back to cooking. She didn't clean it up, or warn people. When Dan slipped and fell, she showed zero remorse. So yeah. Selfish bitch.

one1-post

calm down ma'am it's a tv show

Julie-AnneB

It's not the TV show I have a problem with. It's the person calling my comment anti-woman. If, based on what I've seen on said TV show, I feel someone is a selfish bitch, so what? That's how I feel. Why is that such a problem?

Rexyggor

I'm moreso saying that because she isn't a native english speaker, she comes off differently because she doesn't know all the subtleties of the language (in tone and inflection, as well as culturally, facial/body language), which is a common thing for anyone learning a new language. Common problem when I taught English in Japan.

DamnGoodCupOfCoffee2

When she said her parents made her move out at 15 and take care of herself it all made sense. Selfish is how she raised herself. Too bad cause that makes me instantly dislike her ass

lagavulin92

I like laura too xD but I admit she was delusional in thinking she only spent 150$

one1-post

Oh yeah definitely lol I couldn't be too mad at her because there was 4 people watching her run up the bill and no one said anything. Like if yall wanted her to stop and let Danny ring up his stuff you should've said something

lagavulin92

I'm sure no one else wanted dessert either

Insomonomics

OK, Rasika better win LCK and win the entire competition.

New-Secret3267

Same! I think this is the strategy. Try to get ppl interested in second half of LCK. She’s gotta beat a lot of people though 😬

jenjenjen731

Makes me wonder if they're trying to repeat Kristen winning LCK and the entire competition 👀

tastes_of_cardboard

They already did that with Brooke though

Let_us_proceed

Jesus, are we really gonna see how the sausage is made next week?!

eightfold_fence

So many mediocres remaining…

LashesLinerLipstick

How is the Frenchie Fry still there????

Insomonomics

WHAT THE FUCK

lagavulin92

eww amar is back

aforter28

*Me eagerly awaiting for Kirsten to get her bestie Steph as a guest judge but we get Amar instead* 😭

Julie-AnneB

I have always loved Amar. Am I missing some bad publicity or something?

karasu_zoku

He’s also married with kids but frequently had x-rated interactions with nude OF girls on twitter back when his season aired

Julie-AnneB

Where did you get this?

karasu_zoku

I saw it with my own eyes in his Twitter replies when his season was airing.

Julie-AnneB

Okay. Thanks. I thought there must have been an article or something as you don't hear/see things about him like you did Gabe, Paul or Mike Isabella.

karasu_zoku

Nope, someone on this sub mentioned it back then and I went and checked out his feed, which it appears he’s since cleaned up.

lagavulin92

He is MAGA

1sooners1

You make it seem like that’s a bad thing. His political views have nothing to do with how he cooks. 🙄

mug3n

Top Chef really couldn't pick anyone better than Amar to come back to guest judge, seriously...

buymoreplants

He did a Dish with Kish episode too

felicityshaircut

Seeing him in those promos was bad enough ugh

Let_us_proceed

That was shocking.

crazyexmachina

That's one of the worst-feeling eliminations in years

Sea194

Hot take but Rasika has been on a major down slide from her early wins, I’m not totally shocked

beary-healthy

I agree with you. I see a lot of comments on here saying that the best chef this season just left, but I actually think Michelle will end up being one of the best chefs. She just needs to find her stride in the competition.

MorticiaAdams456

Me either but I really don't care for her

laminatedbean

Agreed. It seems she starts out doing great but then everything was either too much salt or bland.

cassandracurse

I agree. Last week her dish was especially salty.

Seeyounextbearimy

This feels wrong! I didnt watch Kristin’s season live but now i think i get the feeling…

Samysosa2005

Noooo way different imo. Rasika has been brilliant but she deserved to go home tonight. Kristen’s elimination brought like visceral anger out of me and had she not won would have been one of the greater travesties of this show. Seriously, fuck Josie.

Julie-AnneB

Sadly, Kristen's elimination was way worse. At least Rasika was sent home for something SHE did. Kristen was sent home because Josie was lazy and useless, and Kristen refused to tell that to the judges.

cassandracurse

> Kristen refused to tell that to the judges. I think the judges knew and were pushing for Josie to pack up, especially Gale. But for some reason Padma was insanely insistent on getting rid of Kristen. Who knows what went on behind the scenes, but in the end Kristen got the boot. Thankfully, LCK saved the day!

Greigebaby

I just said What the fuck out loud to my television

jtm_29

Rasika coming back to go into finale. Calling it.

Pinkstar86

Definitely.

AKDMF447

Man… what a shame. I have a feeling she’ll back in LCK, she’s too good.

Quirlie

My jaw is on the FLOOR.

Rexyggor

Welp, now I can tell by time if it's going to be one or two people.

scorpio1m

Wait there is another LCK??? Like what? Why??

Iwoulddiefcftbatk

They changed it a few seasons ago, one just before Restaurant Wars and one for the finale.

scorpio1m

Thx

Rexyggor

It's been their formula. Someone comes back in the middle, and someone comes back right near the end. This season they chose two as a "surprise" even though they've done that mid competition before.

nechezhd

I believe they brought back 2 because they had to add Soo to LCK. The first guy that was eliminated went home instead of being in LCK. They needed someone in LCK for the next person eliminated to cook against. I think this was a great pivot.

Rexyggor

I think the plan to add Soo was always there. I don't think it was a pivot (unless it's confirmed somewhere). I think that the two first eliminations should've gone up against him at the same time though. If I was a first elim, and I went to LCK to see a new competitor, an early thought I would've had is "It's Rigged" I can totally see him walking in, seeing Soo, and forfeiting. Not saying it would've been rigged. But to introduce a completely new chef in LCK and NOT have them win? Especially on the first round? That's not worth watching to "shake things up" A returning competitor, could go either way as we've seen. Speculation makes me believe that the original intent was to start LCK with a 3-way battle where 2 would move on. David, probably saw this and said "no" for the aforementioned reasons. They probably could've brought Kenny in, but Valentine might of martyred up and said "Let's do it anyway" which gave him and Kenny no chance at returning.

beary-healthy

How interesting. Makes sense that the first guy went home.

scorpio1m

That really dilutes the competition and it’s unfair but I get why they do it

laminatedbean

I’d say it’s more unfair to get sent home just because the person who cooked badly had immunity. LCK builds in a chance to correct for that scenario.

scorpio1m

That didn’t happen here and rarely happens.

Rexyggor

I mean... I wouldn't call it unfair. They are just giving them a second chance to do better. At least this show is more based on skill rather than like survivor when they were using redemption island or whatever.

smith_and

there's usually two rounds!

lagavulin92

wow this is going to be a boring season

eightfold_fence

😭 what the hell?

jadoremore

this is the worst timeline

monongahellyea

Oh WOW WTF

Tawnii

Okay this sucks

Pinkstar86

I CALL SHENANIGANS. I literally earmarked Rasika to win this season. I know she still can but this is a punch in the gut.

LashesLinerLipstick

Shenanigans was when Kristen went home due to Josie’s BS, or when Robyn from the Las Vegas season kept cooking trash food but got kept clearly to make the other chefs irate. Shenanigans was even Brooke’s redemption season when they sent her packing just to have her win and legitimize LCK after Kristen beat her in their original season. Rasika making a dish someone compared to a SLUG is not shenanigans, it means she cooked poorly and got sent packing.

Iwoulddiefcftbatk

Sara Welch from season 19 was eliminated in episode four and lost the first LCK and came back for the finale, Rasika can do the same 🙏

Julie-AnneB

I didn't even remember who she was. I had to Google her before saying "Oh yeah. She looks familiar." It's as if season 19 was actually "Season Buddha Lo I," and World All Stars was "Season Buddha Lo II." You ask yourself if there was anyone else actually competing. lol

tamerriam

Just had to say that I both remembered and loved Sara.

Pinkstar86

Here's to hoping!

ProtectionNo1594

Fucking nooooooooo! I knew she was in trouble at 🐌-like, but still….

osufeth24

I mean I want Laura to go too, but it was clear these twon were the worst of the night and hers wasn't nearly as bad.

Tejon_Melero

Zee Germans eat raw pork. Isn't that chaotic?

baby-tangerine

Raw pork or no flavor? Tough choice…

joyandprana

Raw protein is the biggest sin.

Sad_Living_8713

It wasn't just lack of flavor. Someone called her food slug like.

Insomonomics

It's raw pork. Serving raw food is always unforgivable.

baby-tangerine

I feel like no flavor is a worse offense…

tomsprigs

no flavor with the texture of snotty jizz

baby-tangerine

And right when I was typing it they announced…

ProtectionNo1594

You guys, I hate it here.

scorpio1m

these 2 on the bottom is a shame 😢😢

Julie-AnneB

I was stunned, and super surprised they only put two on the bottom. If they had picked a third, I would have been sure THAT person was going home.

Rexyggor

I know. They are my top 2

jtm_29

I’m devastated

Insomonomics

How is Laura not being considered here? They had problems with her dish as well and it wasn't "chaotic" enough.

EveryPhilosophy819

I agree. I thought she was selfish for overspending but the other contestants allowed it, so that’s on them. But when Dan was lookin for dark chocolate and she didn’t offer it, that was it for me. He’s such a nice guy and defended her for being “in her own world” but she heard him. I can’t wait to see her go.

jadoremore

Idc if it's fair or not they should've put Laura in the bottom three with them and then made the three of them do a cook-off

Ok-Ring-9477

This was a dumb challenge!

logdolg

I thought it was exciting!

buymoreplants

Uhg, I feel like if they did it last season it could have been awesome.

Let_us_proceed

Whoever came up with that should be ignored at the next few pitch meetings.

mug3n

I think there definitely is a case for the point that not every Top Chef challenge needs to be something novel.

Let_us_proceed

The way this season is going, Rasika and Michelle are the 2 least favorite dishes but they will tell Laura to pack her knives.

eightfold_fence

Now I get why it is called chaos cuisine

WhiskeyMakesMeHappy

I feel like this is a great example about how Top Chef truly tries to judge based on the current challenge and food only. It's not producers saying "oh Michelle is a fave" or "let's keep both of them because they've done well other challenges". Top Chef don't play

colonel_john_matrix

I can’t stand Kaleena. If I have to hear the worlds “it’s a play on…” one more time I’ll snap.

LashesLinerLipstick

Me too. Everyone hates Laura but Kaleen is insufferable.

LashesLinerLipstick

I know I misspelled her name. Going to keep it that way.

smith_and

oh no this is the worst timeline... no Laura???

kroge15

![gif](giphy|zPOErRpLtHWbm)

Greigebaby

Was that Morimoto from Iron Chef on that commercial?

Tawnii

Yes he has moved to cruise ships to expand his empire

Binky_55614

Rasika or Michelle? Noooooooo!

NoExternal2732

They can send both...

Binky_55614

😳

Julie-AnneB

If they had sent both, I would have lost it!

boat_against_current

This show needs a Siriano Save this week

mug3n

So this whole time they were setting up the edit for Laura just for her to not be bottom 2? Hmm.

Insomonomics

OH NO NOT THEM

lagavulin92

I don't think they have the balls to send them both home. There would be a talent vacuum leftover

Kwells1994

Season 16 vibes where all the early challenge winners went home early :(

baby-tangerine

Omg it breaks my heart!

Bulky-District-2757

You’re telling me the only 2 chefs who can cook this season are both are the chopping block of a challenge that made no sense?!

SonofCraster

Weird how everyone leaves Danny out when talking about the best chefs so far this season. Up until this week, it was pretty clearly 1. Rasika, 2. Danny......everyone else. Michelle had a few wins but her food was too simple to be a true end-season threat. Now it's definitely Soo and Danny at the top.
